Still looking for good stuff for the Pastebin and Imgur. Maybe we can get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

Idk why but I never really have luck with the typical fat bodied lipped cranks. As far as hardbaits, suspending jerkbaits are #1, lipless rattlers are #2, and shallow divers like Original Rapalas are #3.

Holy shit, I've caught hundreds and never seen more than one spot. This is ridiculous, just about every fish I pull out of the water has 3+. I know where I'm going if theres ever another spot contest around here.

Also to zuriss (or anyone else who fishes salt) since you're going to the coast soon you should stock up on the new penny gulp! jerk shads. I cannot pull one back to the boat without having something try and kill it.

Started the day after class at my uncles property walking a few miles into the woods until I found this insane little river that divides his property and a state forest. Walked that thing for another few miles with my fly rod thinking I'd be able to catch a trout seeing as there are public fishing signs on the state forest side but I didn't even get the rod out of the case because I didn't have a clue where a trout would be. Once I got back I tried at the pond that only has bullhead in it but they didn't like my artificials.

In a last ditch attempt to not get skunked I went to my grandpas pond where I knew I would catch some. I threw every small bait I had and the only one they would hit was that silver mini chatter meme. Caught about 8-9 dinks. On my last cast I caught the best bass I've seen out of there. Obviously not a monster but compaired to the baby sized 7-8" fish that are the usual it felt damn good.

Chatter meme a best bait. Better then Meppsâ„¢. Fight me if you have a problem with that Pepsi

>>888888

>>992793
Like I said, I think all of them break down fairly quick in water. But Gulp is def one of the fastest just because of how it is like a sponge.

>>992797
You will get it one day. Find the structure, go there at dusk, catch fish!
>>
>>992797
Nah you're not hitting the right spots. Also it's still cold up here in NY, look for spots where it's shallow and sunny. Slow down the lure
>>
>>992406
Someone told me that the reason redfish has multiple spots because of their diet of crabs. I doubt it and I feel like it's more genetics.
>>
>>992807
The one I killed had like 3 fiddler crabs in its gut but I don't think that had anything to do with it. You're probably right about it being genetics.

I guess redfish don't travel very far to spawn? Cause all of them in this area had multiple spots.
>>
>>992406
>>992807
Are all of those reds from the same area? I bet it's a genetic thing and lots of brothas and cuz's in that area.

Yeah, that's probably half of it. I stopped to work the areas that are generally considered good for fishing - eddies, behind obstructions in the river, below low-hanging branches of trees, etc. but the water is still quite cold - I'm in the northern end of St Lawrence county so one of the colder parts of the state. It'd probably be smart to fish sunny, warmer spots - I'll try that tomorrow.

i just wanted to know if it was a good deal or not but im too autistic to ask properly
>>
>>993022
It's straight. I mean you can find that $10 off coupon all the time and it's a good way for a newer angler to grow the lure collection and try some new shit. Seems like they also try and keep with the seasons so the baits you get in April should be some good spawn or pre-spawn lures (assuming the bass box) and then once you find something that works well you can go grab more of that type of lure on your own.

For the 3mos with the $10 off code, it ended up being like $11 per box and I definitely got my money's worth considering that's what one X-Rap or Yo-Zuri costs. So even if you don't use half the stuff in the box, you normally still come out on top.
>>
>>993022
Yeah it's a pretty decent thing to build up a little collection. Pepsi and I have the autisms and buy a bunch of stuff we'll use once then forget about.
>>
>>992924
Yes. Unless you're loading them hot in 9mm brass for AP purposes.

>>993035
Kek I wanted to give you some credit. I've really slowed down on buying lures. I only replace things, get shit that's on sale, and whatever I get in the MTB/LTB. Or if it's something I've never seen before then I'll grab one.
>>
>>993040
I went crazy on buying hardbaits like a year ago, still buy up shit when it's on sale, and it's difficult to run them for 10 months of the year and then this winter I ended up using Sebiles and Rippin Raps 90% of the time.

is it okay to eat fish caught near a city
>>
>>992928
>>992938
what advantages do they offer over lead weights?
>>
>>993065
depends on the body of water

city reservoirs tend to be some of the most toxin-free bodies of water in the world and they'd be fine to eat from

the bodies of water to watch out for are storm water retention ponds, horticultural garden retention ponds, golf course water hazards, etc. anything where you're gonna have fertilizer and pesticide runoff is not a good idea to eat from

Had the exact same thing happen to me at my grandpas pond yesterday. There are two huge beaver houses in the back and when I was casting I saw a few of them lumbering across the water. Before I left I got the shit scared out of me by one who slapped his tail on he water and it sounded like someone dropped a grenade in the water. My grandpa hates those fuckers since they block up the run off waterfall thing constantly throughout the year and try and flood the pond. I had my .22 on me and I was really tempted to blast a few of those fucks but I wasn't sure if it was legal

>>993016
I enjoy it. Should be getting my first pro walleye box today. Ever since I switched to the pro box I've been calculating what each box is worth and you usually get around $15-$20 worth of baits over what each box costs. >>
>>993297
Jerkbait #1 hardbait!

Suspending ones will normally run like 2'-3' under the surface. Give them little twitches and pauses while you retrieve them. It's nice because they run at about the same depth no matter how fast you retrieve them so you can go fast with short pauses when the bass are active or run them slow and twitchy when the bass are picky.
>>
>>993297
Find a natural silver pattern jerk with a diving range you think will be able to get down towards the bottom/middle of the water column and start fishin. You can start with a simple steady retrieve to get a feel for how it dives. Once you get that incorpurate horizontal rod twitches for optimal presentation

I'm a big fan of X-Raps but they are one of the more expensive lures. Husky Jerks and Originals are solid standbys. Rippin Raps are one of my favorite lipless cranks. Scatter raps outfish most other diving crankbaits for me as well and certain colors always seem to be on sale. Also Skitter Pops are the only topwater lure I have ever had luck with.

Basically, there is a reason why the hardbait selection at any tackle shop is like 50% Rapala. They work.

Nope..regular plastics dont break down at all. In the summer I go diving in rivers to hunt for things people lose. I see worms all the time.

If you ever decide to pour your own plastics dont ever mix your remelts with gulp products.
Gulp makes their poured plastic lures somewhat biodegradable and when you try to melt them they dont even melt. Different materials, I think its to do with the porosity of gulp baits and the type of waterbase material they use.

They are fine for soaking bait, but if you are actually fishing lures and want to feel what is on the end of your line, there are so many better choices at the same price or for $10-$20 more. Same with the Ugly Stik GX2 combos they sell everywhere for $50. The reels are complete plastic trash, the rods are old school flimsy and heavy fiberglass, and if you spend $10-$20 more on a combo you can get something that is actually pleasant to use for years.

They had a whole section of PowerPro priced at $10.00. The tag said it was for 150yds of #30 but it was like a whole 6' section with every size and Super Slick was $15.00. Grabbed a 150yd and 300yd of #20 regular just to see what it rang up at. $12 for 150yds and $19 for 300yds which isn't bad. I probably could've complained and got the 300yd spools for $10 but I don't really need it and Walmart already pisses me off enough so I know trying to complain about that would just ruin my weekend.

Going /out/ night fishing at local lake with my crappie lights on one of their piers with some work buddies.

Last year we did it multiple nights. Got a few dozen fat heads, slip bobbers, jigs/jig heads, dip net for when the shad finally show up. Should be a good night.

Last year we caught 10-15 fish an hour, mostly yellow bass and sun fish. A few decent largemouth and a catfish mixed in the batch, hoping a rare walleye will make an appearance.

Is spider wire even meant to be used on a baitcaster? Sold my old setup to a coworker for cheap, for some reason he went straight to the fishing shop, peeled off the old chinese braid (which was still fine) and spooled it with spider wire, first cast he birdnested it and the spiderwire fucked up all the plastic on the spool, guy ended up selling it to a pawn shop for $20.

Lel. I bought two of the Memeballs when I finally got em 2 for $15.

>>993514
Yeah you can use braid on memecastwrs but there are a couple things you want to watch out for. If the levelwind mechanism is all plastic like some of the cheaper memecasters, it can wear thay out. Also if you hit a snag or land a big fish and pull on the line hard, it can dig into the spool and cause problems on the next cast and it's harder to have that happen with mono.
>>
>>993467
Also with those memeballs, I have a squarebill and a regular deeper diving one. I still kinda want to try one of the suspending jerkbaits but would never pay close to the $18 retail for it.

They keep getting all these new memebaits too and downsizing the regular bait selection. Plus like 2yrs ago they expanded the kayak and watersport sections at all of the stores around here and cut the fishing sections down.

I gotta get back to Gander Mtn with some money to blow too. Bass Pro might be slightly better than Gander Mtn but I think Gander has more freshwater stuff that I like. They redid the soft bait section around the same time Dick's cut back on fishing stuff and Gander has a huge wall full of any soft baits you could want.

careful Zürich, I was on those for strep recently and after a few days it got so much worse, like the infection had spread all the way down my esophagus. i couldn't even eat yogurt without horrible pain, it hurt to lay down, sit up, couldn't drink water, nothing.

turns-out when you have a powerful antibiotic like that wipe out all your good bacteriafriends, the candida that we're naturally covered with (aka thrush aka yeast) will take hold and grow out of control. i got a thrush infection so bad it was much much worse than the strep was. and everything that kills strep helps thrush - listerine, lozenges, etc. it was a nightmare and took a month for me to swallow food without tearing up.

my advice from this ordeal - eat a yogurt or two everyday, take a regimen of probiotics during your antibiotic course, and gargle with salt water instead of mouthwash. salt water won't kill any more bateria but it'll wipe-out any budding thrush colonies before they cause touble.

don't my mistake friend, it was bad.

Yeah I added probiotics and real yogurt to my list to pick up today. I will have to make sure I have enough salt I am not sure if I have a back thing of it or not but the main thing of salt is low.
>>
>>993984
it doesn't need to be too salty, just enough to taste (like a teaspoon per cup). just the first rinse it killed most of the throat/tonsil candida overnight, and it wasn't so salty as to irritate my throat. it took quite awhile for it to go away all down my esophagus though. i carried a water bottle of salt water with me so i could gargle (and swallow a little of it) like 4 times a day. good luck with it!

also as an unlikely side note worth mentioning, the mouth/throat is jut about the most common place to get thrush due to antibiotics, BUT you can get rashes on your skin or eye infections as well. the eye one will probably need a doctor but if you get a rash behind your knee or on you neck or butthole or something just get athlete's foot cream and you'll be set.

that augmentin stuff is a great antibiotic but man...

Brand new to fishing here. Is there any reason to use a caster reel over a spinning if you're not going for anything heavy? From everything I've read it's easier to cast with a spinning and I've also read that beginners should go ahead and learn it.
>>
>>994150
Yeah the centipede one, I have those in chartruese pooper.
>>
>>994154
Yeah don't buy a memecaster until you get totally comfortable with everything else. Spinning reels are more versatile and less shit to go wrong.
>>
>>994137
You know I have never once used a stick worm. I might have to buy some to try out.
>>
>>994158

When I'm looking at spinning reels and it shows the mono capacity in (yards/lbs test) does that mean that's exactly how much of that line is supposed to be used? For example it shows 100 yards of 4lb. Is that also exactly how much weight that line will bear before breaking? Like are those hard numbers?
>>
>>994169
Rough numbers
>>
>>994170
More accurately it will hold at least that much.
>>
>>994169
>>994172
I would usually put the line capacity that the reel says on the high end. But you can put whatever test you want to on there. You'll never need 100 yards of anything for bass.
>>
>>994176

Well I don't know what any of this does anyway. Why would it matter if you put higher test line on? For example if it says 100 yards of 4lb what would happen if you put 100 yards of 10lb?
>>
>>994178
Well 100yards of 10lb test most likely won't physically fit on the reel in that scenario. It's just giving you a rough idea of the amount of line a reel will hold for a given line test.

Also, the higher pound test you go the harder it will be to cast light lures.
>>
>>994169
Recommended numbers. You also need to look at the drag rating. If you hook a 10lb fish on a reel with 12lb line butthe drag only goes up to 3lbs, have fun.

And those line capacity ratings on reels are normally higher than what will actually fit. If it says 120yds-6lb, you will likely get around 100yds of 6lb mono on there before it is full.

Those line ratings are also suggestions for what strength line, what type of rod, and size of fish you should be going for with that reel.
>>
>>994176
Sorry I was not clear in my post.

The test rating of the line (4lb test) is a rough number. The line capacity (100 yards) is more of a hit or miss due to different brands of line being different thickness. It is also dependent on how tightly you spool it on.
>>
>>994189
Ah okay I agree.

>It is also dependent on how tightly you spool it on.
I think when they do it in the factory they spool it tight as fuck to boost the capacity
>>
>>994189
Even trying to spool it really tight, I swear those capacity ratings are always close to 20% too high. You can hit the capacity if you want but all of that extra line is going to coil off the first time you cast.
>>

The little hooks are spring loaded so you put the line around that and stick the hook in one of the slots. Only problem it's tricky for stuff more than like 8" long.

The $25 limit would probably work easier this time as people are not spending a bunch on gifts already.

It's like running them on a jig or anything. The hook comes all the way out, but you have to rig it properly so the bait slides all the way up to the skirt and only on the straight shank part of the hook.

They don't really put those little barbs on em tho like jigheads have to keep the tailers all the way up on the hook. That's why you gotta rig them perfectly or else they will start sliding off real quick.

I use a low profile memecaster and get bird's-nest
I use a normal conventional spinning reel and I can cast a mile and don't backlash

Not even sure , just with meemcasters if I spend a day on the water I normally get at least one backlash
With conventional reels with next to no braking on it I do pretty well

>>
>>994331
A heavy rod, with like 30#, and a frog.

If you're fishing from a boat then I'd go up to like 50# or 60#.

>>994322
It's better to go too far than not far enough. A bend in your trailer won't make the chatterbait roll over like if you go too far up the hook on a swimbait.
>>
>>994389
Congrats. You're too retarded to read a manual and watch a YouTube video.

Set the spool tension and magnetic or counterweight braking to match the lure weight you dumb fuck.

I'm getting tired of this bait casters are hard meme. No. You're just stupid and using it wrong.
>>
>>994403
Then why can I use a conventional reel with no breaks and very little spool tention adjustment perfectly
>>
>>994405
Because you're tossing a 3 Oz fucking sinker plus bait. Any retard can not backlash with 1 Oz or more of weight.

I bet you would never backlash your bait caster if you threw a 1 Oz kastmaster spoon with it.

You're also probably thumbing the spool more to stop the backlash on the conventional reel and not doing that with your low profile.
>>
>>994269
that looks neat!

I have something similar made from foam but longer lines still get messed up as they are wound around it several times.

>>994313
It's not bare line, retard.
>>
>>994424
I've been tossing between .5 and 1.5 ounces today with a conventional and have no issues
And I've thrown that much (up to 2) with my memecaster
>>
>>994435
It's commonplace for me to throw 1/2 to 3/4 oz with my low profile freshwater
And when I bring it to the salt anything under 2
>>
>>994435
>>994437
Well congratulations. You're a retard. Have you ever even touched the spool tension knob and the magnetic brake dial or counterweight brake on the opposite side?

I can't even remember the last time I back lashed with a bait caster.

Those Keitech swing impact fat baits are pretty amazing. I put the 4.8" on a 5/0 weighted swimbait hook and I swear to god I almost mistook it for an actual baitfish more than once. You don't see how real they look until they're in the water. Would recommend.

Hi all,

I'm new to fishing but live in the CA Delta region and would like to try my hand at it this summer. Does anyone have experience with fishing from levees in this region and if so what's the best/cheapest fishing rod you would recommend for a beginner?

Also is this book any good?
>>
>>994739

>>994153

>>994154
Not really, for freshwater a 6'6" fast action rod with #10 mono and a 2500-3000 reel will handle most of it, and for salt water bump up to 7-8 feet rod, 4k reel, and #15-#20 mono
>>994252
Don't put loose mono mindlessly in your tackle box
Rubber band the tree hooks on hardbaits (cranks, poppers, etc) together
Clean it now and then
>>994672
Good eating there
>>
Seriously, is there anyway to prevent or try to keep from asshole croakers and hardheads from "stealing" your bait? I was talking to guy down at a pier about this and he basically told me it's a byproduct of pier fishing and that I should be turning the croakers into cut bait.

>>

Not at all. Unless you are 7 years old.

Get a spinning reel. They sell the Ugly Stiks like you posted with spinning reels but they are kinda shitty and you will want to upgrade in a month. Those go for like $50. If you spend $60-$70 on an Abu Garcia or Lew's or other big brand spinning combo, you won't be disappointed. 6'6" M rod, 8lb or 10lb monofilament line, etc. The pastebin had some shit that might help.
