Still looking for good stuff for the Pastebin and Imgur. Maybe we can get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

theres a small one ( with a deep pocket ) that texas rigged mini lizzards do work in
theres a medium one that senkos work before it weeds up then once it weeds up horny toads work ( had one 7 pounder out of there)
and the large one i have trouble fishing at all, never caught anything out of it
>>972360
will give all these a try, the largest one drops off incredibly quickly ad theres a ledge so when you run shit like deep divers you sometimes get snagged up

thats one issue with these ponds they were all gravel pits so 2 of them just drop right off with little to no shallow area at all
the third is pretty shallow overall

th small one i have no clue pretty shallo with one deep pocket
thatone is ez to fish
medium size one drops off pretty quickly but weeds up totally in the sumer so it cant be that deep
the largest one is totally unknown to me
my guess is it gets down to 30 ft within casting distance, maybe to 65 feet in the middle
though i could be totally wrong
im going to hit all 3 of them in my kayak this summer and try to get a better feel for them

God damn it's been too long, I really hope this cold front hasn't fucked up the speckled trout bite at all. I've been doing nothing but buying a ton of new lures over the past couple months and I'm hyped as hell to try them out.

Someone was talking about using a jig head with live bait a few threads ago so I bought a cast net and have been throwing it around. Guess I'll be trying to catch some of the fingerling mullet or tiger grubs that are always around and nose hook them with a little jig head. Are you supposed to have it heavy enough that they sink to the bottom like with plastics or to where they can still stay suspended? Hop it? Swim it?

You have a lot of really decent options in that price range. If it was me I wouldn't be afraid of buying the lews Mach II again. It's an all around solid rod/reel combo. Especially for jerk/crank baits, but it doesn't suck for soft plastics.

Insure you're gear. It's really cheap to insure a kayak and fishing gear. Like 100 bucks for the year. Covers theft too.

Also those hobie yaks have a lot of tie down and tackle mount spots.
>>
>>972729
That's good to know. Any yak recommendations? There was one that looked pretty fucking good at BPS for 599 or so.
>>
>>972730
If you're spending a grand or less look at old town and wilderness systems.

Don't get an ascend brand yak.

More money for an awesome fishing yak? Old town pdl with the accessories.

Even more money for the ultimate yak? Hobie pro anglers with the 180 mirage drive.
>>
>>972729
How do Hobies work on just under white cap size waves with a full load?
>>
>>972734
The big 14 foot pro anglers are pretty good. You can lower the seat so it's flush with the floor. You're gonna get wet though.

They also make kayaks that have the little side float parts and sails you can add to them. I think the pro angler can do that too.

Honestly you should have a good inflatable life jacket and a water proof personal locator phone if you're on big water in a yak or you're going to die.

Especially in the gulf. Storms get big for no reason.
>>

Link to guy fucking up big time and flipping I'm the ocean. Probably didn't have his skeg dropped down for more side to side stability.

https://youtu.be/NKSnRKLJpq0

Link to guy showing stability.

https://youtu.be/hfO4TNELmb0

Having the skeg dropped down makes a big difference for side to side stability. The 14 foot one is even more stable for obvious reasons.

Honestly though you just need time on the water and to get comfortable. Take a class. Go out on a warm day and flip it purposely. The kayak can be loaded to like 600 pounds safely. They are bug stable boats. With nothing in them they are like 140 pounds.

It better be cheap to merit the drawbacks of that. I know my ass would rip it up in Arizona river and resovoirs. That or I would slam a crank bait into the side of it.

If you want a cheaper yak old town, native, and wilderness systems make good yaks that are not crazy expensive.

Hobie is just expensive. It sucks because they are the best for the most part. Supposedly native is coming out with a new flagship boats for fishing.

Hobie also makes pic related but it's 5 grand. It's fucking awesome though. Two people peddling get this big bitch moving fast.

Sorry for what may be a stupid ass question but...
do you guys use rods? can they be done without, as in line fishing? I look up "line fishing" in jewtube and only see stuff related to tuna.
I ask because a rod seems a bit burdensome, not as in weight, but it's a big thing, and it's also a piece of technology that is bound to fail (ie break or something).
If line fishing is possible in your regular river or stream, and if anyone has good resources for learning to do it, pls share.
Thanks in advance

I have two and I'm gonna order another one on Friday since they're on sale. They're very light and sesitive and I haven't had any problems with them. They're marked as a fast action, but I think they're more like an extra fast. Really solid for Texas rigs and jigs.

I have read the reviews saying they break easily, so they may have some shoddy qc or maybe some people are just really rough with their rods. I would still recommend one based on my experiences with it.

>>972796
>and it's also a piece of technology that is bound to fail (ie break or something).
If you buy a quality rod the only reason it'll break is because you got a lemon or you did something to make it break. It's very unlikely a rod will break from doing what it's meant to do.

Stained water or cloudy days, but some times the bass will really like those wild colors. I think they get curious or mad and bite it just because. Nows a really good time to use them if you can find them on beds.

Fishing shallow I like an 1/8oz weight. Any deeper and I'll step up to a 1/4 or 5/16, or a 1/2 if I'm casting into cover since I'll most likely be using a heavier rod.

I prefer 4/0 hooks, but some people like 3/0 whatever makes you happy.
>>
>>972820
My idea would be something like casting in a place like a stream, where I don't really need much distance. what do you mean by "lures"? I'd be using bait ofc. I'm just wondering if it's possible to pull the fish without the mechanism that the rod provides.
Sorry for the nub ass questions, I've only done this a couple times in my life (with a rod).

>>972811
It's not so much break by use, but that the rod itself is a very long thing and it may break with a branch or something. Also the rolling thing looks fragile, and with all the stuff that I'll probably be carrying, it may be at peril

Ultimately I want to know if the rod is absolutely necessary, it feels a bit unwieldy (I'll be inna and I don't hunt).
>>
>>972829
I mean yeah it's definitely possible. Get (or make) something like this http://m.tackledirect.com/challenge-50140-yo-yo-hand-reel-6-black.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw2LjGBRDYm9jj5JSxiJcBEiQAwKWACzBCbY9oeGVXbrQhsAqs-Ls7Lm4IzsGp0iXQt58k9h4aAixU8P8HAQ

You could still get a two or three piece rod and keep it on your pack. an uglystik + Shimano sienna will last you a very long time. Especially if you just want to catch pan fish.

So did 1cuck1reel just give up on YouTube after backing out of living with the other YouTube guys in Texas or what?

The only ones I like are John B and Lunkers but I'm curious if anyone has the downlow on it?

Also fluke master's channel is dying which is sad as he took in that heroin addict guy he's helping now. Probably realized he needs a younger face because like 90% of YouTube views are 12 year Olds too dumb to use ad block and they don't want to watch fluke master be 400 pounds and rub his beer belly on camera as he struggles to paddle his kayak.

Am I 12 year old you ask? No unfortunately I am not.
>>
>>972746
Unless it is VERY stiff, avoid a 2-person inflateable for one person. It will probably bend like mad so you end up sitting in the bottom of a V rather than a kayak.
Solid beats inflateable almost any day of the week in any parameter but naturally storage and transportation count as well. This coming from a guy contemplating buying a cheapish inflateable due to no storage or transportation options.

isn't that a good way to die to a saltwater crocodile ?
>>
>>972914
Why? Would you just kayak up to the first one you saw and try petting it?

It's not like you're in the Nile delta dodging hippos and crocks in Africa.

People kayak around massive gators in the US south all the time.

You're more likely to get jacked laying on the waters edge tapping your feet in the water. They didn't evolve eating kayaks and their occupants.

Hello /out/ my dad has taken me fishing countless times growing up, and I'd like to buy my own rod/reel to go on my off time to some local streams I know. We mostly fished saltwater on lure or live bait, but I'd like a rod/reel that would perform well in fresh and salwater. I am still learning so I don't plan on buying anything top of the line because I may fuck it up. So in your opinion what the best bang for your buck reel/rod for $100-150? Thank you for any information.

Pic related is my aquarium, they are too all to fish.

I bought an ultralight a few weeks ago just for catching crappie. Its one of the more addictive fish to catch.

Lo and behold there was walleye at Culvers and it was good.

>>973228
Probably around $5 at most for a couple of soft plastics and around $10 at most for a hard bait. Of course it depends on how they look.
>>
>>973196
Go to the store and get a 6'6 or 7' medium-heavy spinning combo. Which ever one feels nicest in your hands and looks the best to you. If you have to order online you can't really go wrong with any of the big names in that price range.

>>

You want the one with the metal piece. Watch some videos if you're not entirely sure how to use it, they're very easy. You may have to clean your reel eventually but as long as you keep it somewhat clean you shouldn't have to worry about that for a long time. Just focus on fishing and learning to cast. Read about the fish in your area and the best baits for catching them.
>>
>>973271
Also learn how to tie some knots if you don't know already. Sooner you learn them the better. I recommend learning the palomar knot and the improved clinch knot, that should be all you need for tying on lures.

It depends whether you're talking about spincasting or baitcasting reels, they both have a button. What you posted there is a spinning reel.

Spincast is an outdated design, its simple but you're not going to see anybody but children and old guys using them. They don't cast far or accurately and some have obsolete drag systems.
Baitcasting is accurate and used by many professional anglers but is difficult to use and will jam up if you don't know what you're doing.
A spinning reel is a nice medium, it will cast accurately and is easy to use. The majority of beginner fishermen will be using spinning tackle.

That's the very basics. If you want to know the how or why read here: http://fishingnoob.com/25/fishing-equipment-primer-the-reel/
>>
>>973304
Thank you anon this seems helpful.

Are there any ways you can tell if a fish you catch is healthy to eat? Or do you need to do research on the water source you get it from
>>
>>973306
I don't eat fish very often so I'm not the best person to ask but generally if the water seems decently clean and you're not very close to some powerplant or waste dump any fish you catch should be okay to eat.

Read up on laws though some fish have size limits to keep and others you can't keep at all, but that depends on your area.
>>
>>973308
Shit, I forgot you said you would fish salt water. I know nothing about saltwater fish or fishing. But anything you get out of the stream should be fine.
>>
>>973306
Normally the DEC would tell you on the fishing regulations book. A lot of fish is good to eat when you cook them asap. Also you could see if a fish is sick by looking at scales, fins and their slime coat. Blotchy red spots are sign of a bacterial infection
>>
>>973290

It depends on who makes it and the specific model of rod but generally it'll be one or more of the following; lighter, more sensitive, have better guides, possibly more guides, the guides will be placed better, a better finish, better reel seat, or better materials. Also, the higher end rods tend to be more technique specific.

Or you're just paying for the name. None of those things I listed are a huge improvement from a $70 to $120 rod. They'll feel pretty close to the same, again, depending on manufacturer/rod model.

Kek whatever happened to that one anon Pepsi taught how to fish? Did she died?
>>
>>973877
The trap? He/she is still around. Just wait, it will reply to this post all pissed off.

She's in school and works n shit tho so I don't think she has been out since last summer. Which sucks because that is probably the worst time to fish around here.
>>
>>973869
I bet there are less fish than women who are prostitutes there so probably not mate. Move to the US.

So lemme get this straight.

All fishing tackle and gear worldwide is labeled to potentially contain lead, even if they definitely don't, because the state of California says so?
>>
>>973566
That reel looks great, but reviews say online that the pole it comes with is pretty stiff, should i be worried?
>>
>>973959
They wouldn't be able to sell them in California if they didn't mark them, so they'd lose a bunch of money.
>>
>>973964
I guess it's cheaper slap a warning on then to get an unleaded certification, but the fact that a single state has that kind of global sway is baffling to me.
>>
>>973966
It has to do with a major federal court case won because the government was literally lying
>>
>>973966
>but the fact that a single state has that kind of global sway is baffling to me.
I agree, but it kind of makes sense I guess since so many people live there. It would be interesting to see if tackle companies would do the same thing for a smaller state.
>>
>>973971
It's because of the legal case. If the case was brought to court in Wyoming the results would have been the same and the tags ephod say Wyoming.
>>
>>973977
Which case?

I've a question on rod repair. Would it be appropriate here or should I start my own thread?
>>
>>973980
It had top do work prop 65 passed by the state. It had to do with drinking water and ended up covering all products people have a chance to injest and cause cancer.

If you crushed up fishing lures and ate them you could get cancer.

The government actively covered up poison in the drinking water from local industry and mines.

You should be happy is a law.
>>
>>974005
Typos my bad I'm in class
>>
>>973960
It's fairly stiff which is why I say it's overkill for fresh BUT if you only have one it's the way to go.
Personally I'd say get 2, a okuma stratus V 1500 or 2500 ($30 on sale at Dicks) with a 6'6 rod for fresh and the battle 3k or 4k for salt depending on the size of fish you're expecting.
That would run you about 150 + whatever the 6'6 rod went for, 20-40 probably. Over your budget but you'll be happier.
You can also replace the battle rod down the road. 95% of the cost of the combo is the reel.

>>
>>974125

>>974148
Well yeah they probably have a big market in California, so even if it was only required for the state of California, it's probably cheaper to put it on all of them rather than just the ones going to Cali.

Shit opinion. Half of LL fishing videos are just him talking about what he's fishing for or caught with terrible audio. He doubled down on terrible by jocking the googans style of adding b-roll with drone footage in his vids. 1rod is super hit or miss. Could do without Peric or Flair but Jon B. and Lunkers a best.

>>
>>974278
You should go exchange the GX2 for something else.

And nah, if you give them a check for shipping, you will get the thing. Might take like 6mos but if they cash the check, you will get your shitty dry bag that pairs with your shitty combo.
>>
>>974305
Yep. I used to like Jon because he lived 10 minutes away from me and I could steal all of his spots but now he lives in Texas so I could give less of a fuck. I just like Mike. He's a nice dude, doesn't come off as a douche like the other two. He and the Philly Fishing guy are both really cool and funny.

Catfish and Carp is the only fishing youtube channel I truly enjoy anyway. For several reasons:
>His videos are informative.
>He's not a fucking teenager
>Cute kids.
>Has a real job, youtube is not his main source of income.
>>
>>974299
>daddy pays for everything

Lol. All of them are making a retarded amount of money from YouTube and their sponsors. If you believe them when they say they don't make that much you're an idiot. They easily make 2 grand a week minimum.

Mike (1cuck1bull) is an annoying manchild who is awkward as fuck an didn't join the MTB house because his girlfriend whined about it. He deleted a video he made about the situation because everyone saw what a fag he was so he quick deleted it. Lunker was right. He's a blue falcon bitch boy.

The key west kayak fishing guy makes 1 grand a month or so from youtube. He's posted and shown all the info about it in his "youtube fishing" series and he only has 25k subscribers. You're an idiot dude. This Florida fishermen guy is the only Asian dude worth watching. He actually talks like he doesn't have a mouth fill of dick like 1 rod.

Plus they all get mountains of free gear and tackle.
>>
>>974310

Best youtube fishing related vids is EliasFishing, Key West kayak Fishing, JohnB, LunkersTV, and Paul Adams, and that aussie fuck who fishing from a PVC and wood raft he made and mounted a trolling motor to. John and LunkersTV take trips that are worth watching. Even the never stop tour was watchable with that jew nosed idiot peric.

Next you will tell me fluke master rubbing his beer belly talking about his back injury from the military is good youtube while he struggles to paddle his kayak and talking about keeping that retard friend of his off heroin.
>>
>>974314

Oh yeah. What a mansion a 5 bedroom house in a more rural town in Illinois is.

Have you seen the fucking house 1 rod lives in? It's exactly the same and he lives with his parents as well.

They had top tier gear long before they started to make a profit from YouTube. Who do you think was paying for Peric and Jon to fish amature tournaments all around the Midwest/east coast?

Sure as shit wasn't them considering they have been doing it since they started highschool
>>
Is there a reason why longer rods have a foamless section of the handle rear of the reel seat? I know you're primary hand is all teh way up on the seat and the tip is foamed so you feel the pull on your forearm but it doesn't dig in...

Was thinking of wrapping some yarn I have laying around on it, give a bit of a warmer grip that's better in the wet.
>>
>>974349
I don't know the reason but I do know that I don't like it. Full cork grip all day.
>>
>>974349
No idea but now that you mention it I only ever see cork all the way down, not foam. I thought maybe it was to save weight or be more ergonomic in some way
>>
>>974341
I can personally attest that Peric's parents have $$$ based on the high school he went to. I mean there were a few broke asses like me who got in and somebody else paid, but that's not the 99%.
>>
>>974341
A Shimano curado and go pro hero are now TOP TIER GEAR for fishermen.

Guess iphones are top tier phones as well.

Perics 20 year old boat they used must be top tier gear too.

It's sad how jealous you are.
>>
>>974353
I'm thinking of replacing the foam on my rods with cork even though they're shitty anyway. Worth?

>>
>>974363

>>
>>974362
Well TIL.

On another note: if I've got my crank bait stuck in a submerged log and want to rip it out how worried should I be about breaking my rod?
And if I get a lure retriever will it work or will I look like more of an idiot?
>>
>>974361
Cork dry rots. I purposely find nicer rods that don't have it. The main reason I won't buy G Loomis is the cork.

Cork holds moisture and smells like shit if it gets fish guts on it and cracks and shit. I prefer the hard closed cell foam not the cheap squishy stuff like on ugly sticks.
>>
>>974366
I heard those lure retrievers work. But if you are trying to use some force to rip it free (especially with braid), just pull some line out, set the rod on the ground behind you, wrap a wrag over your hand then put the line around that, and pull. I broke a rod like that being stupid trying to break the line after a lure got snagged.
>>
>>974359
Not jealous at all.

I have a bass boat
I have a curado
I have a go pro

Like you said that isn't top tier gear. They had far better stuff then that. You still didn't comment on who payed for them to travel around lake to lake paying entry fees, fishing license for each state, gear, hotel rooms, gas, food, etc..
>>
>>974330
t. Goes fishing once a week

>>974341
High school tournaments cost like $75 max to do lmao

>>974349

>>974366

>>
>>974374
WHOA WHOA SIR 75 DOLLARS AND 100 BUCKS IN GAS? Watch out man. That's top tier spending. No one can afford that. That guy can't afford that and he even owns the same things they do.

Is it possible someone's parent paid for their child to go have fun and enjoy life because they are not niggers? Shocking stuff. I would never buy my son fishing gear or help him get stuff to launch his career.

Crazy.
>>
>>974374
I wasn't talking about highschool tornoument but ok then
>>
>>974366
Try some back-reeling first, if it's a lipped crankbait it may just float back up after a bit with the tension gone, otherwise >>974371 if you feel alright with 6 steel hooks potentially flying at your face. I was fortunate enough to learn that lesson with a shitty tiny pencil lure designed for bluegill.
>>
>>974379
Yes you were. You said when they first started to make a bunch of money from YouTube and they we're in high school then.

As I said. Key west kayak fishing has 25 thousand subscribers and fucking makes a grand a month from like 4 thousand views per video or so for that month combined. Not 1 grand each video obviously. He gets like that many views average and makes like 900 to 1100 dollars extra from it.

You're talking about a time when John B and 1 rod (who also lives in a very nice home with his parents and is even older by like 4 years) has 100k subscribers or so. They were easily making 2 grand a month.
>>
>>974384
Yeah.... they were in high school, fishing armature tournaments. You dont go state to state for a high school team
>>
>>974392
>>974384
Peric's high school didn't have a fishing team. That's not lacrosse.

>>974380
You're much more likely to send the hooks flying if you dislodge it by whipping the rod instead of using your hands. At least I hope that's what you are saying.
>>
>>974392
You can't fish in tournaments for adults if you're underage lol. You do go state to state for that. It's just like when a sports team travels to play rival schools.
>>
>>974398
K, what ever you say bud.

Read stickies, but not entirely helpful with selecting lures/ or picking bait for different fish, and size.

Want to go to some local lakes/ ponds, go for trout bluegill maybe bass maybe catfish. I have some inherited tackle, and stuff from a kid I messed around with with glitter and glue.
