Still looking for good stuff for the Pastebin and Imgur. Maybe we can get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

Old school Penn level wind bar. I'm waiting on extra money to complete the build for my buddy but he had 2 Penns with the screw bar instead of the worm and guide. I got pne done for him a while back but he is a spinner like you so he is having problems with it. I am going to see if he will let me have this one as payment for the other or sell me both for cheap.

Penn parts are not bad priced and I forget what I need for this one the last one I needed the bushing for the spool gear so $10 from the fishing story in my home town 70 miles from me). This one I think needs a bit more (it has been a year since I have cracked the plates).

It is just nice to fix up those old boys. Granted I'm not sharking them in the surf like my GTI's, but for cats in the river they are fun.

Sort of. Some times I'll have a dream where I'm on a beautiful beach with soft sand feeling the breeze. I've lived on a river my entire life so its not like I have no exposure to water, and I've been on big lakes like Lake Michigan too and when you're in the middle of that you might as well be in the ocean.

I don't know, I'll probably get there some day but my family never really took vacations and I don't have the means to go myself. I don't see the point in romanticizing it, its not like I'll ever be on one of those secluded beach resorts. Most beaches are scummy like everything else.

It's not like it's hard to just take a couple day trip to the beach and schedule a 500 dollar inshore fishing trip man.

You're acting like planes don't exist. You don't have to travel 6 months by horse and buggy to see the ocean in person.

Fly fishing is fun but it's a lot of work and fuckery and objectively worse at catching fish. That's why it's such a big deal to catch a permit in the flats on one.

>>
>>970760

I'm sorry that you've had such a poor experience with flyfishing. I fish with everything: castnets, baitcast, flyrods....the odd drunken time with fireworks.

Flyfishing success (especially for sportfish) is predicated upon the user and their ability to mimic the bait's creation and movement. Flyfishing also offers the ability to cast ultralight lures capable of targeting wider varieties of panfish during more trying weather/seasons. Subsurface crankbaits are alright, but I still prefer a upper-water Enrico Pugsili bluegill pattern with a rattle when I want to actually catch bass.

I'm not going to get into this with you as you appear to be a novice in this respect, but maybe one day you'll graduate from spoons and scented plastic to a more rewarding angling career.

>>
>>970766
Do you also smell you're own farts?

Are you not even reading. You cannot fish a heavily wooded bank with brush and trees as well with a fly rod as you can a spinning or bait cast rod.

>cast nets, fireworks
Did I not say sport fishing with a rod and reel? Oh yeah.... I did. Drag nets are the best fishing option if you just want fish. We are talking about rod and reel applications you idiot.

Objectively the best way to fish would be with live bait casted to fish or near them on a spinning or bait cast or convention reel rod.

As I said. It's dated tech. Rewarding and fun to do and much morn difficult to cast correctly and do a double haul cast than just learning to use a spinning rod. It doesn't mean it's better at catching fish. It's fun. Not better at catching fish.

That's why catching a permit and shark on a fly is a big deal to saltwater fishermen. It's objectively harder than with live bait or tailored plastic artificals.

Jesus you're insufferable. I bet you talk abotjbhow drinking out of a solid copper cup is better even though you have to clean the tarnish.

You're an autistic twat and like most fly fishermen a giant fart smelling elitist who makes me sad to even own my fly rod.

>casting ultralight lures
Oh yeah....you can just a tie a fly to a clear casting bobber on a spinning reel and catch the same fish the fly rod and light lures would have so you're point there is also stupid.
>>
>>970738
The crappie are much easier to catch than the bass at my local ponds, especially in this cold.
I dont see how LMB cant be enjoyed.
Also if your fishing for panfish or smallmouth, you're already fishing for LMB, and you'll end up with one.

I agree the other species you listed are more fun, and in fact is what I mostly aim for since I use some crappie lures around my local ponds, and prefer going out on the river for smallies but its kinda cold for that.

It's a danish lure called Sommet (The nail). It imitates sandeels primarily. Today was very windy and the water was quite murky, so I opted for the red/black for visibility, but you can get them in more natural colours too.
The line goes all the way through so the fish cant use the lure to unhook itself.

Pretty neat.....never heard of such a thing.

It clearly is for plebians though since it is not a dry fly weighing exactly 1 picogram in total mass.

Sand eel immitations can never achieve the necessary fart aroma for me to inhale as I pretend I didn't loose fish to my wind knots caused by my poor cast techniques and ham sized gelatinous arms.

Learn to fly fish like a real man.

I bet you don't even have a fox tail butt plug.
>>
>>970833
>The line goes all the way through so the fish cant use the lure to unhook itself
How does hook throwing work on lures? Is it cause the hook on the lure isnt tight at all times unlike as if it was directly attached to the line?
>>
>>970838
>It clearly is for plebians though since it is not a dry fly weighing exactly 1 picogram in total mass.

Topkek
>>
>>970840
The opposite.

Look at how vertical jigs are rigged. The loose hooks on rope connected to the split ring and solid ring stop the lure weigh from being able to aid in the fish getting enough torque to pop the lure out.

It's a balance of keeping enough pressure without pulling the hook. That weird euro lure would actually be harder for a fish to throw than a standard spoon or mepps spinner style lure.

Lures with the hook directly on the lure also alow the lure to apply pressure in a directly perpendicular force to the entry of the hook point and curve which means hooks can pop put easier. Especially treble hook. More point and smaller curves = less torque and overall force to pop the hook. It also means more pressure on the hook which means bigger holes for the hook to fall out. This principle is why when a fish jumps you should point the rod toward them to lower the potential torque and force a shaking and jumping fish can put on the lure due to its weigh and connection to the lure.

A jumping fish has a much harder time throwing a vertical jig for saltwater with the assist hooks.

Yes I am autistic but it's true information.

Tldr: you don't care enough to read my autism
>>
>>970840
How does the fish unhook itself?
It depends, sometimes its hooked so well, thats it's practically impossible. But other times the fish can use the weight of the hook to throw the hook out by turning in the water and jumping, or it can use the placement of the lure to pry the hook out even.
>>
>>970850
use the weight of the lure to throw the hook*
>>
>>970847
Also pointing the rod toward a jumping fish loosens the line tension. Keeping tension and bend in the rod on a jumping fish gives them leverage which equals thrown hooks.
>>
>>970847
I asked and you answered, np, thanks
>>
>>970833
So it's an ancient Danish spooltek?
>>
>>970859
It's also why these days lures have split rings that attach the hooks to the wire loop instead of the hook directly to the wire loop like on antique lures. Some heddon lures do it the old way still.

The split rings let the hooks have more freedom.of movement from the lure but don't work as well assist hook setups on vertices jigs.

It's much harder for a fish to throw a bare hook om line with no weights or rigging as well.
>>
>>970825
u dont know me or my story
>>
>>970861
No idea what a spooltek is, but I think the lure is many decades old, yes.
>>
>>970861
If it had a gear inside it that let the line wind up it would be.

It's basically a weirdly shaped worm weight.

The swedish version of a spooltek is line threaded around your balls on a gear that your wife can tighten from a rod and reel in her bedroom with her bull while you sit in your cuck she'd tying flies almost as small as your cock. They swedetek is designed to unfurl the pressure from your balls when your wife is full of Arab and or black semen so you know you've been caught into raising another man's child.

The same company also make my wife's son baits and tackle brand shame scented paste.

That's not how it normally works. When you turn your hobby into a job you end up a bitter person....just like in fight video. Because when you want to relax and do your hobby you can't because your entire job is your hobby.

I've inherited most of my gear from my grandfather, I've bought some stuff as well but his stuff was good quality and it still very usable for me, I've caught most of my fish with his equipment

For the record I only run bait or spinners, I have messed around with fly fishing but it's hard to get right
>>
>>971021
When you get bored of bait, fish with lures. When the spinners don't catch shit, tie on a Texas rig.
>>

Don't doubt the quality of old gear, they will last a lifetime and a few more. The old cork handled JW has been bent nearly onto itself catching monster Carp from the lake here and still goes strong.

Wanna get into fly fishing myself but it seems pointless when the nearest trout streams are 200kms away.
>>
>>971027
I don't doubt it at all. my go to rod is some probably one of the last rods my gramps got, it doesn't have a name on it so i know nothing about it but it came with an old Shimano Magnumlite reel, all his fishing stuff had sat in storage for a long time and mice have chewed part of the handle off the reel but she still goes good
>>
>>971026
Nah they work best in warm mid or late summer weather for me. Cast em out, let them fall to the bottom, and bounce them along the bottom with pauses between the hops.

This is something I noticed. I've kept bass in my fish tank for a while now and I've noticed that at certain times in the night. They go absolutely crazy. They'll hit anything that gets dropped in. They get really colorful and aggressive. Does anyone know what causes this and how I know when to fish during these times.
>>
>>971069
They hunt at night.

Also if you have been giving it food at night and what not it's going to be excited at those times. They associate stuff with food. They aren't that dumb.

>pointing (bowing) at the fish

is usually done to throw slack towards a flopping fish. in doing so there is a fine line to where there is too much slack and the fish is allowed to shake the lure loose from its mouth. a softer rod tip and a mono leader help to prevent this happening. dorado are known for throwing plugs right back at you.
>>

My only fish on topwater are: A smallmouth bass I caught on a rebel itsy bitsy craw with the line tied to the "wrong" end so it would stay on top and not dive because I had no other topwater lure
And a 18" pikeminnow on a soft plastic swimbait that I rigged with no weight & wide gap hook, and then retrieved it so it was breaking the surface like a wakebait.
I have a spook puppy and a pop-r, and will probably end up buying more topwaters because they are so fun to use.

Well this is actually a topic I have a lot to say about, living in Oklahoma and I have too many fishing spots within a 30 min drive it's ridiculous so there's been days I go out with ALL top water and that's it and figure out the best way to fish them
Mind you all these tips are for LMB and Kentucky Spotted Bass or just spots as some know them, we call them Kentucky spotted bass here. But onwards to my tips
>3/8 Hula popper- 6'0" spinning rod---what I figured out is best is to use these hula poppers on a spinning rod, simply out of preference mostly? But to the tips, lll use these in creeks and ponds only. Somewhere where I know there will be frogs and other aquatic life besides fish. Stand on one side of the bank and cast to the opposite side straight in front of you, literally as close as you can, to where you might even have to pop your rod and get it to go in the water because it's sitting on the bank. This will imitate a frog or some other animal jumping into the water, and from my experience, that's enough right there to trigger a strike, if not then you should wait maybe 3-5 seconds and give it one to two pops with your rod tip pointed down and pop it back towards your feet. Basically you just want a small bubble to pop, maybe a little bit bigger than that but not much, basically you don't want that sucker just chugging and spitting and throwing water all over the place causing a whole commotion because obviously it'll scare most fish off, but have a slow retrieve on this and make sure to fish it SLOW, not lightning fast. Give it a couple pops, let it sit for 5-7 seconds, then another couple pops, and so on. Also this is a good lure to throw in around stumps and structure.

Also I apologize for these being long winded and what not but I am currently on about 40 mg of aderral. So I have more to come, literally am just wanting to try and help out anyone who will take the time to read!

tl;dr >speeding on adderal, giving away all my fishing tips.
>>
>>971255
More tips!
>spooks- all spooks! No matter the make, model, manufacturer. None of that matters. Nor does size, color is something to take into consideration, be sure to do your research on whatever your fishing and to match your colors according to whatever bait is in the water, be it shad, bluegill, craws, etc.

>spooks- So what I tend to do with spooks. I'll usually use them on some type of fluoro. Between 10-14 lbs. and it's my personal preference, but I only use spooks with bbs in them for that vibration/noise type effect. I'm award most spooks have bbs, but I've come across a few silent spooks.
>where? Only LARGE ponds and lakes.
I'll use a spook early morning or late evening, not so much middle of the day, from my own travels, spooks have the best response during that early morning bite. I'll usually either A.) get on sonar and mark fish out in open water and toss a spook all around in a 360 circle. With a medium to fast retrieve, always popping that tip to get that walking action and pausing every 7-10 seconds of reeling to let it sit for about 3 seconds and teen starting back up. Or B.) Which is my preference, I'll find a creek mouth that is dumping into the lake or a bunch of reeds or tall grass that you can't really pitch into and I'll cast alongside it. Then on the retrieve, I'll work it slower, popping it only 3-4 times to get it to start walking and then pausing for 2-4 seconds and then just a couple more pops. And do that all the way back to the boat. I fish it this way to kinda imitate a dying fish that's kinda suffering a little bit or so but doing it this way has produced a lot of strikes for me
>>
So on to my absolute favorite top water lure, buzzbaits!
I personally feel like buzz baits are the all around perfect top water lure for agressive anglers. I myself fish very aggressively, I like moving baits, I like to get my bait in the water, hook up, land the fish, release it and get back to it, and the buzzbait is exactly that.
>where? EVERYWHERE. Literally everywhere, from ponds, to creeks, to lakes, to rivers. The buzzbait is perfect for it all, 1. It covers a lot of water, FAST. 2. It will find you fish a lot faster than a crankbait or a Texas rig, etc.
>How? I only use buzzbaits on baitcasters, for one simple reason. You have to be able to retrieve it fast, not lightning fast, but still a pretty good speed. And the reason you need to, is because the longer that lure is on top of the water and churning that water up and clacking, the better a chance you will get a strike, and it's easier to do that on a bait caster than say a spinning real. So like I said you want it on top of the water, so therefore as soon as you cast and it's getting ready to touch the water, be getting ready to reel. You don't want this lure sinking because it does you no good, with it being IN the water. all you have to do with this lure is reel, that's it, depending on the day, experiment with speeds and how you retrieve, sometimes I'll reel and then stop for like a second and then reel again. You just basically mess with your retrieve depending on the day.
>Also! Do NOT buy cheap buzzbaits, they don't work well, they don't stay on the water good, they sink too fast, they are cheap and poorly manufactured, trust me it's worth it to shell out $5 to buy a war eagle or a strike king.
>>

Im keeping an eye out for nereis as well. Ive tied some neries flies that im gonna bust out when they do appear and then hopefuly catch my first fish on bombarda.

I "bought" my newest reel. I went into Dicks slapped an Abu Garcia Pro Max on the cheapest rod they had, and only the rod rang up at the register but it looked like I was buying a combination rod. I got a 80 dollar reel for free and a rod for 30 dollars. Looking back on it I should have tried for a more expensive reel Also I stole a Rapala from Kmart once.

They're always fun. Going again in August. Had pit for the last tour. Seats for this one. Setlist dot fm if you're really interested but yeah, everything but the stuff from uno, dos, & tres that they played on the last tour.
They did 3 or 4 from the new album, 3 or 4 from Dookie, a few from American Idiot and Bullets, a few older.
Covered Hey Jude & Shout, Satisfaction, and an Operation Ivy song

It's fine, it will be in shallow water so it is more easily retrieved. It will also provide cover for baitfish and attract more large fish waiting for a meal just on the deep side.

A couple cinder blocks and chain link fence is cheaper that scuba gear. Plus other anglers won't get snagged on my scuba gear like they will the fence.

On the bombarda-trip as well, eh? Still working on my technique but it's getting better and better.
Had problems with the leader twisting itself around the braided main line but after using a few metres of mono between main line and bombarda it seems to have vanished... braid has its advantages but due to it being so soft and flexible it seems it wraps itself around whatever it can find. Also ordered some 3-way spreader swivels out of Chinkland which should hopefully eliminate any further clutter...
I'm going with gulp worms over flies though... Bilka had a clearance sale with gulp bags for a steal. Turns out very few kr times a lot is still a lot of money so now I'm poor the rest of the month.
Gonna get myself a kayak in the spring/summer and pick up proper flyfishing again I think... we'll see what happens with a baby on the way...

>>971967
>Meanwhile every single gun related homicide or attempted homicide that has been committed here in the last 20 years are from illegally obtained firearms.
Which means the restrictions are working... more guns 'on the street', legal or illegal, will inevitably equal more shootings... would it be better to have twice the amount of gun-related deaths just so it could be half and half legal/illegal guns that caused them?
Higher availability = more incidents. Goes for anything really...

What do you think is the best tackle box?
I wanna buy one soon, I have been looking at the plano ones.
>>
>>971985
I've fished a bit with gulp/bombarda, the most important thing is getting a bombarda with enough weight to carry the worm. Something like 40g maybe?
My experience tells me that bombardasticks / sticks from q-tips will lower clutter by around 50%. Also you can gently slow the bombarda when it's about to touch the water with your hand on the spool, then the leader will go in first and all clutter is avoided, but it's difficult to get right...

With flies I can pretty much pretend that im fishing regular spoons, and the cast will be fine. I keep seeing people casting their bombarda with just the flick of a wrist like its nothing, so to some extent, I think the best way to get technque down is just not to think about it too much or at all.

Fuck man, that's exactly what I say. Almost all of the shootings in the US are done with illegal guns as well. I'm sure it's a little easier to get an illegal gun in the US than Australia, but still. The states with the worst gun violence in the US are the ones with the most strict gun laws too. Chicago has so many retarded firearm laws (city laws) and the state of Illinois is pretty tough as well yet Chicago keeps topping the murder charts. Fucking pussy democrats. Bunch of short term solutions that just make shit worse in the long run.

Most anglers are used to obvious noobs- one thing is that as long as you dont fish next to someone, or place your cast next to theirs, they wont think less of you. Also dont chum either but it doesnt sound like you'd be doing that.

I'm enjoying this bag. It can hold 4 3600 Plano boxes in the bottom and more in the top. I keep my tackle in the bottom and other various items in the top (food, water, roofies, fox buttplug, etc) has a rod holder but I normally don't fuss with it; unless I'm beach fishing then I'll put a sand spike on it. It can also split into two tackle bags if for whatever reason you don't want/need a backpack that day.

It's not super durable but no problems with it yet.

Just small lakes and ponds, for bluegill and bass, maybe catfish. And maybe the lakes that have trout.

Suggestions for a plier/multi-tool that can reach in for a swallowed hood? I don't want my gf to freak out about ripping out the guts of a bluegill that swallowed a hook. Will catch&release the bluegill and bass, but not trout, to my little knowledge they often die anyways.
