Still looking for good stuff for the Pastebin and Imgur. Maybe we can get a list of Youtube vids and put them in the Pastebin or keep a couple important ones in the OP.

I see you like the Shadow Raps. I own one or two but haven't given em much of a chance. Red-Eye Shad is solid and I see dat X-Rap.

If you want a good lipless rattler that is a little smaller than the Red-Eye, look into the Rapala Rippin Raps I think they're called.
>>
>>964387
I like the little Rapala classic ones or whatever and I bought those cheap bass pro xps lures today to give them a try since I have never used them before.

The shadow raps are awesome when the jerkbait bite is on. Better than x raps in my opinion when you dead stick them in the water between "jerks" or rod twitches. X raps are better for warmer water imo.
>>
>>964389
The couple cheap Bass Pro XPS cranks I have owned weren't terrible, especially considering they are like $3 compared to a $10 Rapala or Yo-Zuri.

You should get a Skitter Pop for spring. Those are a blast. All about the Brown Frog.

>>

I got the bass pro ones because they were on sale and the lipless cranks looked like they ripped off the profile of the yo zuri lipless lures and just changed the head so I figured why not.

The hooks definitely seem like they are garbage but if they get bit a lot I will upgrade them.

wew lad

I've owned both a Revo and Supreme. Complete shit. They rely on the whole "10+ BALL BEARINGS XDDD" in order to justify their selling point. And even with all those extra ball bearings, they still feel horrible.

Abu and Pfleuger have been selling to the babby's first combo demographic since their inception and its why they suck. Entry level gear for entry level fishermen.

Aldebaran and Metaniums are not as big, therefore not in the same category.

You can always go with an older Curado 300 as well and it would arguablly perform the same as the Revo Toro.

>>
>>964508
I don't know about pike but 20 would be fine for cats.
>>
>>964508
#30 is fine. might wanna get a pack of heavy flouro leaders though if you want to loose less lures.

And I dont mean tying on strands, I mean getting the pre made 12 inch ones with swivels on one end and a snap on the other
>>
>>964511
I use 50# spiderwire for my leaders. Hold the end in your outstretched hand then run the line all the way back to your chest and cut it off. Hook at one end swivel at the other. Makes nice evenly lengthens and holds up to gar teeth. Make up 10 or so at a time.

Get a piece of cardboard and cut a strip that will fit in your tackle box. Make a shallow cut on both side of it ever 1/2 inch down the length of the "card". Stick the barb of the hook into one of the corrugated holes next to a cut then wrap the line into the cuts. You not have 10 leaders on a nice neat card. If they show any damage while you use them just get a new one out. Cut the hook and swivel off and use them to make more leaders.

Damm that's pretty disappointing. Pretty pissed off but they haven't broken yet I guess. 10 bucks a pop for something you can crush with fingers? Pretty ridiculous. They must be using some rigid polystyrene for it to crack like that. Makes me think it's important for the boyancy or action possibly because it's not like polypropylene or hdpe plastics are any more expensive. Pretty ridiculous. If it's just to save money that's horseshit. They are making money at 10 bucks a piece. They work well too which pisses me off even more. I want to take one out and test it but I don't want to just break it for no reason lol.

I don't have a boat and fish from shore but I don't have any rip rap by me really. Do I still need a square bill then? Never used one. The deep divers are for running along sheer drops and piers.
>>
>>964901
Squarebills are shallow divers.

I rarely use cranks like that anyway tho. Never had much luck. If I want to run deeper, I will toss a heavier lipless otherwise it is mostly jerkbaits.
>>
>>964904
If I had a boat I would have easily 30 different lipped cranks I dont.....
>>
>>964908
They're still good for covering water, especially ones with wide bills.
>>
>>964901
I have a boat and fish rocky lakes (Missouri). Squarebills are great for bumping along shallow rocks and other hard cover. Their tight wobble makes them great for spring too once that water hits 55.
>>
>>964909
>>964910

Sure, I've thrown Luck-E Strike, Strike King, KVD, and Manns off the top of my head. They're all in the $5-$7 a pop category.

-That's a range of 5.5 to 6.5 R-value, per inch. Yeti is on the low end of quality and performance for those.
-Polystyrene/Styrofoam has an R-value of 4.6, per inch. Which is what most cheap cooler companies use.
-Aerogel is around R-9 per inch. It is rare and extraordinary expensive. Like $2k per average sized cooler and you have to know someone who knows someone who can hook you up. Usually only for 1%, military, and science. It is actually better and cheaper to make your own from structural aerogel panels.

Thankfully, aerogel products are finally dropping in price. You can even get aerogel-based clothing (Oros' Solorcore) now.

>>

They have 2 inches of polyurethane insulation. The insulation is pretty good. However, the form it takes and how old it is plays a massive role in how well it performs.
>>
>>965102
if you say so but that makes sense. So what the coolers don't work as well when they age? It shouldn't break down because no sunlight gets to the insulation though.

All I know is their solid coolers are awesome. They work way fuckin better than igloo or pelican stuff

In air? Because if it's sealed air tight inside the cooler walls it shouldn't loose that much integrity at all. Those are sealed in with an inert gas and or nitrogen.

I would believe that loss in air with oxygen and sunlight or artificial light.

Pelican ice almost as well as Yeti, normally with in 1 days difference in tests. I personally like the Pelican latches more than the Yeti latches. The down side is Pelican is heavier and holds ice for a shorter amount of time. The upside is Pelican latches can not be opened by pawing at them and they cost 3/4. The price.

Both have thier pros and cons and non of them are worth the price unless you need them for a specific task. Just going day fishing a $15 igloo is fine. Camping for weeks at a time in a spot that is 50 miles from the road (like on the PINS) and the cost of driving to get gas every day or 2 is more than a $300 cooler that only needs new ice every 7-8 days.
>>
>>965133
I use a cheap styrofoam cooler and set it inside the larger igloo cooler.
>>
>>965136
If that works for you then use it. I was looking at $30+ and 5 hours per trip just to get ice.
>>
>>965145
I don't use ice when camping. I only use it for bring home food from fishing. I don't bring foods when camping since I only hunt or fish what I need on the spot.
>>
>>965131
Yeah. In an oxygen environment or exposed to light. Not sealed air tight in a cooler wall with and inert gas or pure nitrogen or in a vacuum.
>>
>>965148
Congratulations you do things differently then I do. I like to have some things that need to be kept cool while camping on the beach like milk for making chowder or sausage for breakfast tacos. Some times I need to keep bait cool or catch a fish that is bigger than I can eat in one meal so I save some back for the next day. I also save some to bring home with me.

If I'm hiking to a spot then no I don't take a cooler but when camping out of the Jeep then some things are more fun to have.
>>
>>965153
Incorrect. It is caused by the chemical composition of the plyurethane itself and its foam shape. It doesn't shrink much more after 5 years.

it's true though. glad i went daiwa and shimano this year instead of wasting any more money on abu and pfleuger.

i mean, abu and pfleuger are fine companies, so is lews, but when your lineup is pretty much all low/mid offerings it's hard to compare to a company that offers mainly mid/high tier offerings.

there's never been a cheaper time to get shimano gear, chronarchs are 199 again and curado's were 130 with discounts, tatula's are often 100 online and the SV spools have trickled down to the tatula lineup.

that being said there's nothing 'wrong' with the 3 abu reels i have, nor with the president spinner i've got. they're not going anywhere and i will get use out of them.

if anything pfleuger makes the best spincast reels as far as build quality, though nobody here cares for spincast. I like having one around just for the hell of it.

I went on the river today in waders and had no luck. But holy shit is it actually a bit scary to encounter your first carp in person while wading and having a school of giants just roam by you.

I tried my best to try and catch one, they seemed active as one was jumping out of the water, heard its for spawning I think?

They didnt bite on garlic eggs nor some of the early budding flowers on the trees that overhanged the river. Sucks that i didnt have corn but might hit the same spot with it next time.

The river is supposed to be great for smb too but didnt see any. Lots of baitfish in the shallows however, huge clumps of them.

You're just being a fucking idiot. Do you want me to get a list of msrp prices from both websites for you to look at and compare?

What you're trying to prove doesn't even make sense. You just prefer one brand and you don't even have a logical reason as to why. You're only argument is that they sell cheaper reels in the entry level market. So does shimano. It's called the Sedona.

Now, this is a story all about how
My bait got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of fishing without care

In west Chicago born and raised
On the river bank was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin' top shot off of my spool
When a couple of bass who were up to no good
Started giving me trouble with my plug of wood
I got one little fight and those bass got scared
I said 'I'm gonna make a lure you can fish anywhere'

I sketched up some plans an then it became clear
This senko was fresh looking like ice on a mirror
If anything I could say that this worm was superior
And I thought 'Yeah they'll hit' - 'Yo, holmes to the pier'

I pulled up to the lake about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the baddies 'Yo holmes is that a gator'
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To fish all alone as the fish Prince of America

actually test drag pressure is what gets your fish into the boat. not your rod. you ever see someone handline a big fish?
not everything is bass fishing where you can literally high stick drag a fish to the boat.

which kastking reel specifically pulls 45 lbs of drag?

when vertical jigging/deep jigging/speed jigging one of the lessons you will learn is that the reel acts as your winch. the rods flex provides the lures action. if you use the rod in typical lift and pull fashion you will lose the battle by tiring yourself out and not gaining much on the fish. the most effective method to use is to point the rod, bury the rod and crank letting the rods flex absorb the fishes energy hence tiring it out faster. the newer rail rods being manufactured are a testament to this method of fishing. you would be surprised at the flimsy rods people catch big fish on.

"drag weights(sic) dont mean shit" is a retarded statement. drag pressures are measured under sustained load not how much you can lock a drag down. if that were the criteria why even have a drag to begin with?
"quality drag" i assume youre talking washers, have no effect if the reels pinions can handle the drag pressures. you will blow out the reel and could hardly turn the handle under max load. I know were on /out/ but still please try to keep some modicum of truth to your arguments

Except that if you can't exert enough stopping force on the drag you line will just peel off and not move fish out of grass or lily pads. If that's the case why doesn't everyone just leave the drag super loose?

Damn they have some steals on tackle bags right now too.
>>
>>965650
True but if the reel won't hold enough pressure the rod is going to do fuck all to hold or control the fish.
>>
>>965665
and if the rod is a stick it doesnt matter how good the reel is, you're going to be pretty limited in what you can do
>>
>>965671
I'd rather have a 300 dollar reel on a 100 dollar rod than the opposite though.
>>
>>965660
Just use a backpack if you're bank fishing. It's way more comfortable.

then why dont commercial longline fishermen use them?
>>
>>965679
Kek. True
>>
>>965608
>he's having trouble with drag

Doesn't your reel have a break and/or drag adjust? For freshwater I use my thumb to adjust the drag on the fly by pressing against the spool. You can do it on saltwater too, but if you have something over 4 feet on your hook... lol

>tfw I have drag set as loose as possible and never have problems

>>965674
I'd rather handline than pay that price.
>>
>>965679
Because rod and reels are for sportfishing, not commercial or subsistence. That's also why the circle hook exists. It is essentially a snare for fish and you can set lines without rod and reel. The fish pulls on the hook, it turns to the corner of the mouth and locks in place.
>>
>>965679
good thing we arent talking about commercial longline fishermen

well again thats not true. A number of countries use jackpoles for commercial fishing. jackpoles are not sporting.
In many countries commercial fishermen solely use fishing rods and reels to harvest catch. new zealands kingfish (yellowtail) for an example. they smash them on topwater and deep jigs. all caught on rod and reel to conform to the commercial laws set forth.

also bruh.. this is not why circle hooks exist.. people were commercial fishing long before circle hooks existed.

perch are fun to catch, theyre scrappy on light setups

>>965703
ehh not always bruh, my experience with guides is that theyre always sizing you up.

them taking you to productive spots, rigging, baiting, how to do this and that is what guides do. that is their job to get you on fish so they use you as an extension of themselves and what they would be doing.
lodge guides become your buddy. vacation guides are usually all business working for that tip. you ever hire one? I hired one years ago in belize that I still keep up with and consider a friend. I guess Im biased but Ive only had one bad guide that I didnt like and that was because he added 4 high dollar passengers to a boat I chartered by myself. he told them I was the walk on. we caught fish but it wasnt what I had planned, fishing with 2 guys and their gf's even if it was cheaper.

There's a lot of golf balls around- possible to resell them for any value?

Never gone on any exotic charters/guided trips but I frequent one chapter for stripers / bluefish as a +1 when groups want an extra guy to help split the cost

The way the guy runs he charter drives me crazy , he picks the spot , picks the bait , sets the bait out , and will usually set the hook then hand the rod to the other people on the boat , (if trolling)
I've told him that's not what I enjoy doing and to just let me do my thing
So if we're stopped I toss my own bucktails lures or diamond jigs. If we're trolling I usually end up getting a rod to myself. And putting out something different ( I don't really like when he trolls)
>>
>>965730
3700 bags are always going to be bulky once you get them loaded with tackle. They have a bunch of 3500 little ones for like $8 with that sale and that is enticing because I keep debating going with a small guy like that.

I know right?!? drag systems are so hard for manufacturers to get right. the revo toro beast and that ungodly ineffective plastic tranx use layers of oily t-shirt cotton and aluminum foil for drag washers. I cant believe the prices they charge for those shit tier reels, theyre so out of reach for fishermen like ourselves that are used to superior ht100 drag washers that can pull 45# of drag pressure on a chinese made bass reel. those losers probably have to thumb their spools to increase the amount of drag they need when a big fish hits.

Jackpoles don't have a reel. They are just poles. The point is that rods and reels are sport fishing.

Circle hook was one of the original hooks used by primitive peoples.

It's hardly pressured at all. It's small and shallow, so I figure there's only one apex predator lunker in there and the rest are little guys.
