I agree. Never used the knot but that sounds odd. When it comes to most knots, braid actually holds better than mono or flouro. It's like the difference between trying to tie a knot with a shoe lace or copper wire. The shoe lace will hold better.

Does anyone know what this stuff is or what one could realistically get for selling it? I just had a family member pass and we were left with his boat, poles, and many bags filled with hundreds of assorted bass lures and several dozen large saltwater lures like in the picture.

If any of you are interested in any of these reels, lures, etc, I wouldn't mind shipping them to you.

Well it's because a lot of those reels are newish and have an msrp of $200+. I just don't know how much fishing gear generally deppreciates in value compared to other things. The majority of things in the picture are in good-very good condition so It's not like a bunch of 80 year old reels that are worth a few dollars. The guy was young.

Did you guys know that Mepps has trophy, master, and expert angler awards?
Their website lists a bunch of fish species and the minimum weight to qualify (also a weight caculator based on length and girth). You just submit the online application al9ng with a picture of the fish. 1-3 species gets you the trophy patch and chevrons, 4-9 species gets the master angler designstion, 10 species is the expert angler award. There are only about 300 expert anglers worldwide.

Not the polymer knot, P-A-L-O-M-A-R. I used to always use the Trilene knot until I learned of the glorious palomar knot and never went back especially with braid. Just look at some of the knot strength tests. I was looking at them a few years back and most of those knots will break at like 30%-50% of the actual line strength. Some of the real complicated knots get up to 70%-80% but Palomar breaks at 90%+.

a wind on leader is commoly used for this along with braid. the common problem is that braids dont stretch which rips the hook out of the fishes mouth from not adjusting max drag pressures on your reel. hollow cores and topshots have a little give to dampen head shakes.

any general tips for finding where the fish might be from the bank this time of year?

This is the perfect time to find bass along the banks. Prespawn females are moving into the shallows to look for nesting sights and the males are following them. They will look around heavy cover (large rocks, dense vegetation, fallen timber, etc) Not sure where you are but if you're above the 40th parallel the water temps will still be cold so the fish will be a bit slow and lethargic, the water is also starting to slosh about and fill with winter run-off so it's likely to be murky too.
You can use a worm if you know exactly where a fish is (as in a perfect spot of lone cover where you have frequently caught bass before), but barring that you will benefit this time of year from something that has a bit of colour and a rattle. Use finesse techniques to make as good and as slow a presentation as you can and that will entice lethargic fish to strike.

Ultra slippery fibers like spectra or any UHMPE (dyneema, vectran) won't hold well. They require special knots.
You fools either tie poor knots that luckily bind in ways they aren't designed to, or you can't tell the difference between a broken like and a knot that slipped.
Palomar with braided spectra line fails. I tie it with a figure 8 where the standard palomar has an overhand. The ultra slick string can tighten it, where mono just can't because it binds prematurely.

I was hooked with a crankbait lure with 3 trebles on the back of my leg. I had no leverage to clip the lure off the treble that got stuck and clip off the other 2 hooks on the treble by myself. If I yank it out right there, even if I succeed, I would probably ended up hooking myself again with the other 2 trebles.

I have to do shit today. Today is perfect fishing weather. I knew this. I saw it coming. Yesterday, I went out fishing, when it was a terrible time to fish, but I wanted to see some people and get a feel for the social aspect of the local waterways. No one caught anything except two guys in a boat who could access the correct part of the lake where the structure was located (cliff faces and fallen trees). It was literally the only place you could hope to catch anything when the water was 2 feet high flood stage and 4 inches of visibility.

Another problem was that the lake was stocked a couple days prior. Meaning over 2k people had just dragged their lines through the lake. One guy was boasting that he caught is limit in about 30 minutes on the day the lake was stocked and that it was elbow room only along the shore. Wildlife management should do stealth stocking.

I wish the bait they use for catching trout wasn't the same bait used to catch channel cats. I'm glad barely anyone fishes in the rivers around here.

Was actually pretty epic. Walkin along lakeline and see a big hit on a leaf, first cast almost hung myself b/c wind gust, 2nd cast landed a nice flashy wooly bugger right on top. He didn't fight at first then gave me a nice run. Good stuff.
