Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism and CAbaymang just a trout one.

Hi fishermen,
My name is Roger, and I like every single one of you. All of you are fellow fishermen, cool lads who spend every second of their day looking at awesome pictures of dinks. You are everything good in the world. Honestly, have any of you ever gotten any fish? I mean, I guess it's fun to talk about fishing and make fun of people but you all take it to a whole new level. This is much better than talking about fishing on facebook because I'm in a band and things can get hectic once and a while.
Don't be a stranger brothers. Just hit me with your best shot. I've pretty much caught them all. I was captain of the fishing team, and first mate on my fathers boat. What sports do you play, other than "talking about fishing on the internet?" I also have gotten many lunkers in my travels, and have a banging hot bass boat (I just got a new Minn Kota trolling motor; Shit was SO cash). You are all fishermen who should just go fishing. Thanks for listening.

Happy new years skid,
What kind of dacron? dacron backing? or older style dacron from bottom fishing reels? dacron is fine to use. I used it for a quite a few years back in the day It'll shoot fine, buy a needle to make the loop. modern braid is thin & slick, best as i can describe when you shoot braid it'll feel like tossing a 1oz sinker on a spinning reel with 8lb test. you can wear a glove or use a piece of kt tape or even duct tape on the fingers of your stripping hand. both types will rub and cut you so a little tape goes a long way.

>8wt
>regular line

whats that? You'd be safe on most waters with a full intermediate for reds and specs.

happy new year to you too
wel, i cant find a cheap 6 weight saltwater line, so im buying 7 weight saltwater wf line and building a shooting head

for my 8 weight i can find line and just use it regular or i could buy 9 weight line and build a shooting head for the same price, and im not sure what im going to do
and for dacron i was going to buy either berkley gorilla or this
https://www.amazon.com/Woodstock-Dacron-Fishing-Line-Yards/dp/B0084OMBIS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483329673&sr=8-1&keywords=dacron+fishing+line

the 50 yard spool will be more than enough to make two 100 foot lines, and i will definately have something on my fingers (i played with some #50 dacron and it felt like i can get a decent grip on it)

im just not sure if a shooting head is worth it on my 8 weight since i know ill never change my heads any ways until they're worn out.

any reccomendations on cheap stripping gloves or similar? or should i just slap some electrical tape on my fingers and call it a day?

then for my 8 weight should i just use the rio mainstream 8 weight as is or use 9 weight to make a shooting head? which will give me more room for backing do you think? my biggest fear is getting pulled so close to my spool that i have to lock a fish down and break him off instead of being able to play him

use medical or kt tape on your fingers. are you using the dacron as your backing and running line?
use a 9wt on the 8wt. 8-9 weight are so close in size that spooling will be the same for backing amounts. if anything i would go with as much backing on the 8wt as you can since that most likely will be your heaver and youll possibly encounter bigger fish with that particular rod. I would go braid backing to dacron running to your shooting head. you can get a shit load of braid on so that you wont git spooled. and by the time your into the braid youll be on the reel so no problems stripping in a fish. set your leaders to be the weakest link so if it does happen that you have to pinch your reel you can get back your shooting head and running line.

mono stretches.

yeah, im just asking if an 8 weight 80 foot line or a 30 foot shooting head with 70 feet of dacron on the ass end would give me more room for backing, thats seriously how im deciding this.
and then, should i do 30 braid to make sure its heavy as fuck, since my heaviest tippet is 0x (15 pound test) and i plan on buying 20 pound bite leader? if #25 braid existed id use that, i just want to make sure that any snap is on the tippet.

then, what fingers need protecting? both or just the fingers on your rod hand? im having an easy time of seeing me hook something big and stupid, it goes on a hard run, and giving me a thin line of rope burn up the entire length of my hand and fingers, but im also seeing a huge gouge in my index finger on my rod hand by day's end
what about these?

Hey boys. Looking for a new reel, for seatrout/trout fishing in Norway. I bought 0,17mm Fireline for my old reel today, but it doesn't spin the line on properly anymore and I can't stand fuckups when casting. It's pretty shit anyways. I have a 9' Shimano rod, 7-23g. Max price preferably around $150. Suggestions?

>>
>>922792
30' shooting and a dacron running line will allow you the most yardage on a reel. 30# is perfect on the beach, 40 is more common around kelp or rocky areas where you can get rubbed off.
stripping hand. i tape middle finger index and thumb. casting hand. middle and index. on the stripping hand use little more tape on the index
those finger buffs do well on boats but if you wade or get wet they dont do so well. look cool though and that does matter to some.

Skid I'm about ready to end it all. I've been fishing since I was really little but yet somehow no one has ever told me how the river that I fish for smallmouth in is one of the top steel head fisheries in the winter.

The problem is not only is my fly rod too light but the fags up there charge $25 a day to fish the best spots..

I got those waders from Santa so I should be able to wade the waters without an issue but I don't have a clue what would make a good spot and what to use.

What do

I fish the same trouts, but in Denmark. Had to replace my Shimano Exage for similar reasons, so I got a Penn Sargus II christmas. I've caught 4 trout on it so far, and no problems yet. i like to do the sugar thing because in my experience it dries out the corn a little so it stays on the hook, and it gets more scent in the water.
as for places to look, id look for a soft bottom, usually silt or mud, near vegetation, ideally there will be a little bit of a flat near a drop off, fish on the flat, or if youre at a river try to find a deep pool that is barely moving

It really depends on how heavy the hook is. You can use a small piece of foam with it if you want. There's tons of styles.
>>
>>922940
So what's the difference between that and drop shot or a Carolina rig? Dont they all float above the mud if the bait is floating? Also since it isnt too deep wouldnt a bobber be fine?
>>
>>922943
You need extra flotation. It is rare your bait will be enough.

You mean a santee cooper rig? That would work too. Normal drop shot rigs can foul the hook when the fish bites.

Yes, that could work. You will need some strong wire that will go through holes to connects the hooks and such:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/4c/77/c1/4c77c1b2a3be40182e2c96780b45f28a.jpg

Rattling can be done with lots of things from beads to sinkers. It may have good action if you merely offset the eye you tie the line to. If you are good around tools then you can do this. Otherwise, you may need some practice. If you mess up, don't worry too much about it, since you'll be learning 100% of the time and do much better with the next one.

Use something like IrFanView to adjust jpg compression size and image dimensions for uploading.

That's considered littering actually and you can be fined for it. Anything you fish out and kill, you have to dispose of properly. The game wardens here are high almighty douche bags about such things.

I'd say that's good law enforcement. Everyone doesn't want shores full of decaying fish with bears and racoons lurking around.
Being d-bags about it is hard to differentiate
>>
>>923390
humans murdered it, claiming "its just a myth" as we drove the knife deeper
>>923401
the thing is, letting someone off with a warning, and telling them what could happen for leaving fish around is good policing and responsible management, just idly writing out citations for everything is being a D bag
a game warden's job is to help the environment, the humans using it, and spread knowledge, both of the law and ecosystem, and just scribbling out a ticket every time someone fucks up is the worst way to go about that.
>>
>>923391

Warnings are for young adults doing things like going 40 in 25 mph zone.

I think citations are righteous when it comes to messing with a habitat and overall the cleanliness of a natural area.

Yea warnings do the same but I bet they won't give warnings to experienced anglers.

No, douche bags are the ones who accuse you of littering when you are not the one who littered. I'm not responsible for other people's litter, but I will pick up trash when I see it. However, when a douche bag comes over, suddenly all trash and dead fish in the area, even where you personally can't see it are now yours and you are fined for it and lose your license.

Why? Because some people are fucking douche bags.

Ever been shoved around by a drunk game warden? I have.

That's completely different, and I don't get how you started off holding that back. We're just talking about actual citations, not bad law enforcement.

There's a few huge river dams around where I live. They have spillway outlet towers and channel everything through a pipe that spits it out at the bottom of the other side of the damns. The amount of water rushing though them is impressive. None of them are used for even the smallest amount of power generation.

They outright say they dont want to maintain dams and fish ladders are useful but expensive to maintain.

But I dont see where they say dams increase flooding and erosion. The only reasoning I see is because they dont want to maintain either dams or fish ladders.

They aint getting rid of every single one. Like most likely all the park ponds will keep their dams, but all the small ones on rivers doing nothing but blocking stuff from going upstream will get focused on.

Just like a telescopic antenna, right? I've fitted eyelets to such things before. I'm not sure how you couldn't do it. Tenkara rods are much the same. You place the eyelets on the very end of each section that you need one. Then it the sections slide into each other until it hits the eyelet and stops. Adding eyelets only prevents about 1"-1.5" for eyelet from collapsing fully.

I think I'm getting the hang of making straw shrimp. Easy peasy if you have a proper pair of scissors, a needle, and use monofilament for the eyes. I'm trying mine as a crayfish pattern with a single small splitshot sinker inside and reverse action. The Japanese guy that makes these doesn't use internal weights and allows them to dance on their own in the rough breakwater using a dropshot. Your not innovating you are over complicating things while making a shit version.

For fuck sakes you want to attach a reel with rubber bands.
>>
>>923680
Rubber bands just seem so flimsy. I would rather just cut off the zipties when I want to put it away.

I think maybe you should look for a velco strap. I remember having some for my bicycle to hold the brake cables in place that would work really well. They were maybe 1/2" wide and 8" long so you could get two of those and wrap em around the reel a bunch and it would be much more secure.

You need sturdy guides or they will fuck up when under the strain of a fish, and if they are not smooth they will fuck up your line. You need a reel seat to hold your reel steady or it will move around when you are fighting a fish.

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but how exactly do you kill a fish?

I've been fishing at a busy place lately and wanted to bring home my next catch, but what's the best way to do it in public? I just presumed you stab it in the head and bleed it out, but would that look really autistic if I just started bleeding a fish out in front of everyone?

Should I just put them in a ice box and do it at home?
>>
>>923713
put them in a cooler and bring them home, should be dead by the time you get home, if not they will die while you fillet them. Don't really have to worry about killing them, they are really good at dying all by themselves.

Nice haul. You'll need to use 2-part epoxy to glue the tape onto stuff. Use a rubber band to hold it in place. Once it is cured in place you can use hard head cement or epoxy over it to make it more durable.

Super glue works well enough, but epoxy and head cements are better. Though, you can use water to make super glue setup instantly. Just lightly moisten what ever you want to glue and slam the pieces together asap. Practice on test pieces first though.

As you learn patterns and gain experience, you'll be more inventive with the stuff you have.

You won't need a torch. The proper wire is spring tempered stainless steel wire (music wire). For lure body work I'd use 0.031" to 0.045" diameter. You can't anneal it & harden it again (because it is normally 302 SS) and working it too much will anneal it. It will murder any side cutters you try to use on it. Use a Dremel disc to cut it if you don't have any bypass cutters rated for spring hard wire that size. You'll need to wear goggles the entire time you work with the wire, not just when cutting it. You can source it at some lure making places/websites or from music wire dealers and industrial outlets. It is like $35-$45 per pound (180' to 400' long), so check out the lure making websites and music outlets first for shorter lengths.
>>
Can someone please explain the difference between fly and spin fishing? I've even googled it and still don't understand. All I can gather is that you use fake flies when fly fishing, so why does that necessitate its own special rod?
>>
I want to get into fishing but I'm poor and really don't need a hobby with so much variety and things to get obsessed over and sink my money into.
>>
>>923832
Flies are so light that the fly rod uses the weight of the line to cast while spinning reel setups use the weight of the lure to cast.
>>
>>923670
These flies look nice, but do you think they will catch fish?
The normal shrimp patterns look very alive because of how the tail and hackle opens when they come to a halt in the water, but these will look the same at all times right?

does this impact the quality of the meat much opposed to just killing it like the second post? going to be out on the ice all day for to fill my freezer with brookies, id like to keep the quality of the meat as high as possible, but bleeding out a fish on the ice seems a little rude to me for some reason

i was just taught to kill it once i catch it because keeping it in the cooler stresses it out and makes the meat taste worse, not too big on fish but im poor and need some meat, so id like the best i can get

>>923832

when you cast a spinning rod, the weight of your lure carries it to its place
with fly fishing, the weight of the line is carrying the lure/fly because the things are near damn weightless, hence the different technique (casting the line vs casting the lure)

>>923859

i want to tell you to go for it but im poor as fuck and fishing really hits the wallet hard

i tried to save money and started fishing this year with just bass in mind, now im sitting here with like $150 in dumb shit i bought to go ice fishing, the only reason i could afford it is because i put it on credit and paid it with my student loan

i would recommend just playing Fishing Planet and crying yourself to sleep

if you seriously do try to get into fishing with cost in mind, used rods and reels, local tackleshops for soft lures and bait (sometimes some places will just melt down plastics and sell their own cheap ass lures)

research the fuck out of whatever you're targeting, its the specialization that gets expensive
>>

I make less than $5k a year. I fish for food as well as farm for food. My worst "expense" for fishing is the annual license ($40.) Everything else that I buy for fishing is paid by making flies and lures and selling them. Powering my PC to shitpost on 4chan costs more per month than anything else. ($0.06 an hour)

If you go to your local grocery store and check the prices of fish per ounce, you'll find that buying a bit of monofilament, some bait hooks, and using a cane pole with a twig bobber and some worm/insect/baitfish is an outrageously cheap method of getting near infinite food. Put a ribbon on a hook and suddenly you have a durable lure for a wide range of fish species (pic). Everything beyond that is merely commercialized fluff and sport fishing.

Thus, if you want to drop serious money on fishing, you can. But, you don't need to do that to have fun or to feed yourself. Be warned, if you want to save money, you'll need to not buy every trinket and fluffed up commercialized crap lure and reel you see. For some reason, fishermen blow way too much money on stuff they never even use.

Are you trying to fish lakes?

I mean basic rule for lakes is find structure. Weeds, underground trees/branches, inlets will be good for smaller fish. And just past those weeds and dropoffs you will find the larger predator fish, especially at dawn and dusk when they come to feed on smaller fish.
>>
>>923897
Do some research, but the line you'd be using would be far different from the line we use today. A lot of fishing tech today is just for the better, like hooks that can be taken out of a fish rather than kill it.

But if you can use biodegrable line and lures, that's a plus

>>923925
>Now, how do I find a good fishing spot? Is there an online resource?

It is best to ask locals who know the waters. Yes, there are many guides online stipulating what is said here >>923933 showing where to cast and such. Those are general purpose and apply to most waterways.

Using google maps satellite views, you can zoom in and sometimes actually see underwater structures. Stuff like old river bed dropoffs and riprap show up well.

>>923942

>I want to get into fishing but I'm poor and really don't need a hobby with so much variety and things to get obsessed over and sink my money into.

A 15-30 dollar combo at Wal-Mart, some 10lbs test line, and some small hooks will handle 99% of the fishing anyone starting out will ever really do.

And even if you decide you want to upgrade to 20+ lbs catfish/saltwater fish or go even bigger, I've handled plenty of larger fish on a $30 shimano reel + 8 foot shimano rod.

People who spend hundreds/thousands of dollars on fishing gear are like guys who spend shitloads of money to play backyard sports, or customize their PCs, or have the latest smartphone/gadget, or on work out equipment, or on bikes, or trick out their cars.

Yeah, it's all nice. Sure, it makes some things more convenient and/or gives you some bragging rights. But you don't really NEED it to enjoy the hobby.
>>
>>923925
>Now, how do I find a good fishing spot?

Almost anywhere you can access the water is likely to be a "good spot" because it'll usually be the only place from which you can access the water. Docks, spillways, inlets/river mouths, piers, bridges, weedlines, submerged trees, shade, piles of rocks, and anywhere fish can hide are always great places to start though.

And if you aren't catching anything in a spot, just move 50 feet. It's less about finding the perfect spot from the bank right off the bat, and more about knowing when to move around and change presentation.
>>
>>923859

if you have one near you a mid sized creek can be a great place to learn. around the size where it holds water more than 2ft deep year round in some spots. you can walk the shore or wade the shallower parts and cast worms on bobbers at the deeper water and near trees
>>
>>924013
I gotta crawl before I walk, dude.
>>
>>923991
it depends. use this rig and you should be catching fish within 5 minutes of casting around you at different spots and depths

>size 10 baitholder
>size 5 split shot
>small clip on foam bobber

use 6lb line on your rod and bait with a worm. you should catch panfish if you cast it near holes or structure like rocks/wood. look up a slip float rig if you want a bobber that's easier to cast and adjust depth on.

all that plus a spool of 6lb mono should cost maybe $10 but probably less.
>>
>>924016
Yes.
>>
>>923991
How long you should wait is realy dependent on how much available fishing area you have, what your are using as bait, and what you are trying to catch. There are some other variables but a good rule of thumb is 30 minutes.

>catfish with live bait
This will work anytime day or night but the best time is an hour before and after sunset or when you have a full(ish) moon in the night sky.
The spots I fish requires you to pack up and drive to a different spot so I just stay where I am and check my bait after a missed bite.

>catfish with dead bait/catfish bait
From soap to chicken livers and any other non living thing you put on your hook you will need to check your bait every 15-45 minutes. The bait will have a tendency to slowly get washed off the hook so the faster moving the water the faster you need to check your bait.
This will work anytime day or night but the best time is an hour before and after sunset or when you have a full(ish) moon in the night sky.

If like me you can't just move a few feet down from where you are then when you recast try a different spot. A foot closer to you or further from you could put your bait in a better spot (deeper hole, closer to a log or rock, ect.) so try that if you can't change your location.

Hooks are measured in two ways
Size and and aught
With size it's just a number, higher number smaller hook, it goes to about 30
Example, a size 8 hook is bigger than a size 10
Aught is a number followed by /0
So for example, a 3/0 hook is smaller than a 6/0 hook

Then floats there are a lot. Just get the super cheap red and white ones

The flood water are below the roads now. I got my license renewed. I drove around looking at the water. Everything is brown and muddy including all the lakes in the area. Turtles and catfish are all that's on the menu.

I stopped at some dollar stores on the way home. Everyone is restocking after xmas and everything was 75% off. So, I got some stuff I thought I could make flies and lures with.

First test runs are hopeful. The party beads are a great find. I'll have bead eyes for bass lures for a life time now. I bought 2 Altoids tins for small fly boxes.

Have you personally seen carp in those waters and were you chumming while fishing? With most chumming you can stay in one spot fishing for about 20-30 mins for carp and 15-20 for channel cat. If you don't start slaying them within that amount of time, move to a new spot or depth.

Go to a craft store. Sometimes Walmart even has that green foam shit.

Otherwise find some of that "Miracle Foam" bullshit in the "As Seen On TV" section of Walmart or the dollar store. It would end up giving you a smoother finish than those green foam blocks you buy at the art store that they sometimes use for fake plants.

I need to catch something, tomorrow Im thinking trout. Gonna be cold however as it's dippin to 20F tonight and warning up to just mid 30s tomorrow. Felt amazing today with 50F, something about the sun breaking free on a day like that is one of the best feelings in the world.

I think you're generally suppose to chum then fish within fairly close timeframe...
>>
>>924167
I did, but also heard chumming the area prior to the day youll be out there works too. So I went back.
Clearly nobody liked corn :(
>>
TIL TPWD doesn't consider common carp invasive, but literally every other carp is. I blame the liberals in Austin.

>>924177
Ah my mistake. Dog food apparently works pretty good for carp.
>>
>>924178
I feel like a lot of things work for carp, but ill stick with whats easier. Dog food is hard right, like cereal? Id find that hard to put on a hook.
Hot dogs i like to fish too. Those go on circle hooks well. And it's what I got a nice bite on once in those same canals. Was a noob a year ago and was fishing it like a senko. I think it was a pike since it took my whole hook. Yet again could have been a nooby knot tie.
>>
>>924167
I chum every 30 mins or toss out a sock full of chum.
>>
>>924178
Any reasons why they focus on Asian carp and not common carp?

No one had foam. There isn't a Walmart let alone a craft store. I need the foam sheets for making various types of patterns.

>>924163
Good luck.

>>924187
Common Carp are in every state in the USA and not as damaging as other carp. There's no chance of getting rid of them or preventing them from spreading since they are everywhere already.
>>
>>924191
How come marking them as non-releasable isnt a thing tho? Surely one less monster carp is a good thing. And if a closed water body is fished for carp over time, then surely it will be carp free overtime.

>>
>>924182
I meant just for chumming in general since it floats for awhile it'll get them near the surface then you could use bread or something on a hook.

>>924193
They are in a lot of states. Apparently there's a group called Carp Anglers Group that is trying to protect carp for whatever reason. They're the reason you can only take one carp that's >33 inches out of ladybird lake per day. They also try to stock carp in lakes that don't already have them...
>>
Please explain to someone who knows next to nothing about carps or fishing lakes in general, what's wrong with carps? Are they endangering other species? Do they mess up the water somehow?
>>
>>924212
They are invaisive. They grow huge and eat a lot of vegetation. When they get that big, they have no predators so they can overpopulate lakes, eat a lot of beneficial vegetation, pollute the water, and they tend to stir up mud and sediment a lot as well as ripping up plants with how they breed and chill in the shallow water.

The Asian Carp are the ones that jump like this but European (Common) carp still reproduce like crazy and grass carp get fuckhueg.

I want to go skeet shooting for carp on a boat here. Give it a few more years and the entire Great Lakes will be like the video.

Watched the first vid that popped up. I don't get why they let fish farms buy up land in rivers and fjords to begin with when they obviously can't control their stock of fish. Heard similar stories of fish farms spreading diseases to fish in huge areas around their farms too, completely ruining the livelihood of hundreads of fishermen for years at a time.. They need to regulate that shit.

Scroll down to "Impacts of Introduction"

They wouldn't be that bad if they were easy to control, but they reproduce like crazy so they tend to overpopulate.

Whats the simplest you can go(hook and fishing line simple)? How much is fishing using those fancy baits and lures more effective than "survival" fishing?

I was interested in fishing and read through the pastebins and googled a bit. It really seems much more complicated, even for beginner than it seemed.
>>
>>924224
You can catch fish with just a rod, reel, line, hook, and a nightcrawler. But I think location and other intelligence is required to fish successfully.
>>
>>924224
Anglers definitely like to overcomplicate fishing sometimes. That said, what works one day, might not work the next, so it can be nice to have options.
Simply putting a worm on the end of your line can be effective, but depending on weather conditions, the fish you're targeting and time of day, there might be methods more effective (and more interesting).

Not much. Targeting specific species will require a variety of baits. Lures and flies are just more durable versions. If you want to catch fish cheaply, use live bait/cut bait where allowed. Catch baitfish to use to catch larger predator fish. All that takes is a rod, line, bare hook, and initial live bait for the baitfish.

Checked

That's how the Bullseye Snakehead was introduced to the waterways down here. I guess when Hurricane Andrew hit back in the day, it flooded and/or destroyed the farms the Asians were using to grow them for food and they escaped into the canals. And the snakeheads are really tolerant to poor water plus breed like crazy so they are a big danger.

I believe most of the cichlids were just aquarium fish people released. They basically took over the bluegill population. Oscars (you see them in every pet store) used to be all over until a cold winter killed a lot of them off and the Mayan cichlids took over. But I have also caught those Jaguar (managuense) cichlids and seen Midas cichlids as well as what I think were Convict cichlids (slightly smaller). I know there are the Clown Knifefish in some lakes too. And Plecos (those algae eating things that everybody buys for their 10gal aquarium and releases when they get 10"+) are all over in certain lakes and I really want to get a frog gig and spear me some of them.

And then the Peacock Bass were actually introduced down here by the DNR, I think to help with the invaisive cichlid problem. And grass carp were introduced by the DNR as well for "vegetation control" and they keep the ponds and lakes from becoming swamps covered in duckweed. TXfag says the grass carp were probably sterilized when released which makes sense but certain lakes do seem to have quite a few of them for me to think they are all sterile.

In my "Beginner Lake Fishing" I reccommend just using a nightcrawler with a hook, bobber, and weight. Hell, you don't even really need the bobber or weight if you just want to jig close to shore for panfish. But any carnivore fish will take worms. In any random lake throught most of the US, toss a hook with part of a nightcrawler and you can get bluegill, trout, crappie, any type of bass, catfish and bullhead, gar, pike, etc.

If you want to fish with lures, a jighead (basically weighted hook) with a small rubber grub will catch tons of panfish like bluegill, crappie, perch, trout, even bass and catfish. Otherwise anything that imitates a smaller prey fish is easy to catch stuff on. So for panfish, <2" Rapala or 1/8oz Rooster Tail. For bass, 3"+ Rapala or 1/4oz+ Rooster Tail. Anything will bite them and they are easy to use and easy to set the hook on.

Pic related is a jighead with a curly tail grub. Super easy, cheap, and effective.

Would giant sized musky prey on at least young grass carp?
Why not stock them up? At least you can stock up fish that are still native.

Seems like channel catfish take adult asian carp too, from some articles.
>>
>>924240
I think the fuckers just breed faster than anything can eat them.
>>
>>924240
Carp are faster than musky and musky can't survive in the southern states.

Also, unless the catfish is fuck huge it won't be able to eat a lot of the larger carp. Even the 80+ lb catfish can't eat some of the big carp there are. Plus, I would say a majority of the lakes that have carp problems don't have the best conditions for monster cats.
>>
>>924243
*at least the Asian carp are. I don't know about other species of carp.
>>
So what are the natural predators of asain carp back in their native locations? Gar?
>>
>>924248
Asians

Went out today with my ultra ultra light rod

>>924251
Kek. We just need to introduce more Asians and that will fix the carp problem.

...and any other fish population

>>924253
All of the cichlids around here are so fun on the UL. They are like crappie or big bluegill on meth.

The simplest incarnation of fishing is this
>go to Wal-Mart
>buy #20 zebco omniflex
>buy #8 Aberdeen hooks
>buy some 4/0 circle hooks
>use the small hooks with a worm to catch a small fish
>use the big hook to catch a big fish with the small fish as bait

>obviously you're hand lining

Yeah UL is fun
