Remember, after December 25th, winter is nothing but a cold hell until April!

Still waiting for help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly. Skid typed up a saltwater guide so enjoy the autism and CAbaymang just did a trout one.

Thinking about picking up a new hobby? Want to get a memecaster? Haven't mastered the Palomar knot? Click here!

The black stuff is a large diameter, "Elastic Hair Band". I inserted a long needle/bodkin into it during the tying process then removed it when I was done. Now it can bend and move.

I'm down with this round one. It spins so you can just stick it in whatever corner or against a wall and it's easy enough to deal with.

Only problem is it's getting kinda full.
>>
>>918222
Things with lots of nooks and crannies should be put inside something to keep them clean. For rods, it helps to put them into a cabinet to help prevent temperature swings and block UVs.
>>
>>918224

>temperature swings
It's South Florida. It goes from 70F at night to 85F during the day and the garage hangs around 75F-80F
>nooks and crannies
Ehh, they might get a little dusty when I start playing woodworker and send sawdust everywhere but it's ok. Just blow them with some air and rebuild/grease when needed.
>>
>>918228
Well, I'd rather not waste more of my time cleaning stuff when I could be shitposting instead.
>>
>>918233
Then don't clean it. Just fish with dusty reels and spend your free time shitposting instead!

That's what I do. Plus I'm not going to spend the time taking the reels off all of the rods, boxing up the reels and putting them in a closet, then putting them back on, running the line through the guides on 7-8 rods, tying them up, etc every time I want to stop by the lake for an hour in the afternoon.

Those are cool. Pic related looks nice from Cabela's. And when I got the round one, I remember looking at one from Bass Pro that is square and has an open shelf made to stack 3700 boxes which is pretty cool. Just wouldn't make sense for me since I try and keep everything in my one tackle bag because I like to bring everything with me when I go fishing. That is a complete waste though, I really need to get down on the smaller bag and stop bringing 80 different inlines when I go to the pond for an hour or two and only use one of them.

UV radiation is the worst thing for mono. Before I started keeping the rods in the dark I'd have brittle mono after a year or so. This was because I kept the rods in my foyer where the sun could hit the reels for about 2 hours a day.

You can always use reel covers to block the light and keep them clean.
>>
So Im an idiot. Went and decided to give the berkley invisi flouro a try. The line has a ridiculous amount of memory. First cast was great. Nice and smooth. Second cast was worst birds nest Ive ever seen. Steer clear of this dog shit.
>>
>>918289
Are you using a swivel on your line? Without one it can cause the very thing you are talking about.
>>
>>918289
you mean the 100% fluoro Trilene?
>>
>>918292
No. I just tied a jig on to test it out. I will try it with a swivel.
>>
>>918294
No its berkley vanish.

Im pretty new to seriously fishing but spiderwire is generally what I use cor mono and I never had this issue.
>>
>>918285
I might get some reel covers, but I doubt I'll store them in a dark place. I usually fish every day in the summer, so I keep the rods in my car. I'm not worried about it either way only a couple of my reels are mono/flouro and line is relatively cheap.

>>918289
That's sucks. I've never had a problem with flouro before.
>>
>>918295
You may need to put a big sinker on and just cast and cast for a while to "reset" the line. without a swivel the line can be under torsion strains due to being reeled in, not because the lure is spinning.

Normally going from spool to reel when loading the reel can cause that problem.

>>918299
The reel covers normally stop all light. All you have to worry about now is the heat that may build up in your vehicle. It can easily reach 120F.
>>
>>918297
yeah.. dont by vanish.. Its a meme in the fishing world because of how shit it is that the name 'vanish' is what happens when you use it. It vanishes into the trash. I usualy stick to Seaguar red label and Trilene pro grade. Never had any issues with either of those
>>
>>918289
It's not even the memory that is horrible, it's the fact that flouro is so stiff.

>>918297
BRAID

D

>>918305
Berkley makes Vanish and Trilene so I'm sure it is pretty close. I haven't really had any issues with Vanish that wouldn't be common across all types of flouro. I'll probably get Seaguar to try something different next.

Heavy flouro all around is a bitch. I thought about running it as main line again but I would probably only do it on a memecaster and see how that goes.
>>
>>918309
Im aware that berkley makes both, the quality difference is still substantial. I never go above #12 though. If i go any lighter I will only use a 10 foot leader and connect to to a braided main line
>>
>>918305
>>918297
>>918289
>tfw using high vis lines

Fish really don't care about the line. Just use high vis braided line and a short mono/flouro leader if you must use them.
>>
>>918305
I mean. I untangled it and threw it 5 or 6 more times and it was fine. I actually like the casting distance. It cast way further than the 12 lb mono spiderwire I had on there.
>>
>>918285
You really should respool mono every 6 months or so. A year is the max lifespan you should shoot for
>>
>>918313
except.. the fish do. Once again, dont assume that because thats how the fishing is where you live thats how it is everywhere. If I fish a reservoir north of me that is absolutely crystal clear all the way to the bottom with braid I wont catch shit. If you're not using a light flouro line in that lake then have fun catching maybe 1 or 2 dumb ones all day.

Merry Christmas from Australia. Kiwi's can get fucked.

Any tips for filleting a fish without the correct knife? Former Slaughtermen, so i have sharp knives and decent skills. Just never worked with fish.

I never keep my fish, but I caught a yellow belly (Gold Perch, Aussie native) this morning and it's my mothers favourite. So, merry Christmas to the old girl i thought.
>>
>>918320
Just be careful running certain lures. Especially compared to braid, inlines like Mepps and Rooster Tails will run much deeper and it is easy to snag them with the same retrieve you would use on braid with no issues.

>>918324
TXfag bought one of those Okumas when they were on sale for $30 and he didn't hate it. I would probably suggest an Abu Black Max or Silver Max, I think TXfag prefers his Black Max to the Okuma.

The Stratus V spinning reels are great tho.

>>918332
Depends what you are going for. Bass don't give a fuck, they are focusing on the movement of that big spinnerbait. I think trout are much more picky.
>>
>>918337
Picky fish are normally a result of catch and release. It isn't because of line or hook that makes them so picky. They merely become more discerning about what they are looking at and how it moves. You need to remember that gear is being sold to humans, who are much more gullible than fish are.

all those tuna were previously caught and released, thats why they were lineshy.
>>
>>918339
Trout are very picky because they're sight feeders. They don't smell like catfish nor do they react like bass to movement. In clear water they very meticulously size up their food and won't eat anything that seems off. Even if they do bite they'll often just suck it in and out of their mouth which most people believe is a test for correct texture.

Catch and release makes them more wary but that's often of people. A trout that's never been caught will still scrutinize a fly

It's the ones that are confident that what they think is correct that make laugh the most. If you are fishing very clear water where catch and release is prevalent and still think your line doesn't matter, then I'm sorry but your just being wilfully ignorant. Obviously if the water isn't clear it doesn't matter nearly as much, duh

I have mixed opinions on that little Sebile frenchie lipless crank now. It has the odd one double hook where similar lures have two trebles. Works bretty gud not getting snagged, I hung it on the rocky dropoff here and a regular one would be gone. Also gets bites. But I have had 4 good bites on it this afternoon and only landed one. With 2x trebles, I think I could've gotten at least two of the other three. And the one I landed was nice sized and fighting good on that smaller rod and it was real close where I set the hook. Another 1/4" out and he would be gone.

>>918324
I like the okuma enough. I wouldn't pay full retail for one though. It seems solid and everything, but I don't know how it would do for real light lures. Everything i throw with it is 1/2 or above. I'm using my black max to cast weightless senkos and it's not doing as bad as I thought it would.

This is the lure. Maybe it needs a single octopus hook on the end. I seriously missed out on like 5 bass because of shitty or non-existent hook sets. And also with that bait, it is heavy for its size so you gotta keep it moving fairly quick to keep it off the bottom so if you don't get a good hook set immediately on the first bite, you won't land the fish.
>>
>>918416
I actually thought it was 2 single hooks one at each split ring. Since it has split rings, just swap in whatever you want.

Both moderate fast both 9' both 4 piece, the fenwick retails at $99 and is on Amazon for 74 while the reddington runs $89 dollars and I can get from Dicks for $72. Which should I go for? Cabelas cgr has a 7 and you can usually get them well under the 120 retail. Allen had a prelude for $110 but it's only in 5 or 8
>>
>>918376
7x is less visible than 4x. You're not convincing the fish it's real but fooling them to check it out with their mouth. Fly fishing is a poor analogy bc the tippet weight affects casting and drift but trout spin fishers wouldn't be caught dead with braid or heavy mono

Most people main a 6 weight, it's the most universal weight. It's where I.should have started out. I've got a 4 weight, 5 weight (that I want to cut The handle and guides off of to rebuild as a crappie rod) a 7 weight and an 8 weight.

Talk to the real experts, fish don't care. Think of it like a cat. It can see the feathers, it can see the string, it knows it's not a bird, but it still tries to kill it, he's hardwired to kill it, he has to and doesn't know why. If you wave it past the cat too many times it stops caring though
But then tie the feathers in of different colours and it works again.
Fish are the same way. There are plenty of people who use 2x tippet with #14 dries, and pic related was on 2x and size 12 pheasant tail

What are the pros and cons of a memecaster? I only use spinning reels and fish inshore for reds, trout, and flounder predominately from my yak and with the water dropping under 55 I am going to be almost strickly using artificial now (mostly Zman and Gulp). Is it a good idea to get one? Of so what size and kind?
>>
>>918540
>that grill
Hnggg

Pros:
>more accurate cast
This is debatable, but it's much easier to be consistent with a memecaster than a spinning reel

>father casting
Again debatable, but I've found its true. Not like 30 yards farther but 20-30 feet easily.

>Comfier
Palming a reel is a lot more comfortable to me than using spinning gear, especially when fighting a fish

They usually have more drag too.

Cons:
>birdsnest
They happen and they suck, but once you get past the learning curve it's not a big deal

>light lures
It's harder, but not impossible, to cast light lures. I highly doubt you'll have problem using saltwater stuff.

As for what reel to get, any from the major manufacturers are good. I would get one that's saltwater rated, but they are a bit pricier.

I've never had anything that bad. In the couple years since I started using memecasters, I have had one nest that actually required me to cut out some line.

I think I posted my memecaster copypasta in the Pastebin. I still prefer spinning reels for lighter tackle, but for stuff 1/2oz+, memecasters will cast farther and more consistently with heavier line.

Nice. I have a pack of those Panfish Assassin things in a white glow color.

I wish my family knew what to get me when it comes to fishing. I did order that rod but my lil bro got me a $40 Bass Pro card so that is pretty straight. I'm getting too old to give a fuck what I get for Xmas anyway. I feel guilty because my mom still goes all out on her three grown kids and doesn't even have a ton of money to do it but I guess she enjoys it so I'll let her have her fun while she is still kicking.

And my sister is in town and she is the most ungrateful cunt, I always have to talk shit to her. She is 28 and has always been the same. My mom buys her a bunch of nice clothes (from that Lulu? place) and she complains about everything. She bought her a $70 Yeti mug and my sister was complaining about the color.

>>918615
That's dank you got the GoPro. Every year my mom tries to buy me some electronic gadget and I feel bad because lots of times I never use them. Before GoPro got big, there was those Flip Video cameras that were the rage and she got me one of those that I never used. Last year she got me a Bose Soundlink or whatever which is nice but I never used it until recently when I moved and it works well in the garage. This year she got me a Kindle Fire and idk how much I will use that. I need to open it up and play with it. I never even use my old laptop, I just do everything on the phone but maybe I can at least shitpost from the Kindle.

I did get some of those dank Columbia fishing shirts from my sister. They are longsleeve but breathe well which will be perfect here. I'm wearing one now. They are better at buying clothes for me than I am.

>I could feel

Don't you use the line to "feel" instead of the rod? Then rod sensitivity doesn't matter. That's what I do. For loose line, having highvis main with leader is best since you can watch it.
>>
>>918739
The line transfers the motion to the rod but ultimately the sensitivity of the rod determines how much of that transfers into your hand.

I just pinch the line between my fingers or keep the back of my finger against it.
>>
>>918739
>>918748
I don't like doing that when I'm running lures and I think it's easier to feel bites with a good rod than just the line itself. If I'm using bait I don't worry about the sensitivity at all I just watch the line.
>>
>>918750
I do it for all fishing methods that require the rod in my hands.

>>918748
>>918750
>>918755
I like to hold the line with my fingers too. With memecasters, I will palm it and use my index finger and thumb to hold the line. Not really for sensitivity, but it keeps some tension on the line and makes sure it spools tight.

I like the fly pics, they're neat.

It's been around 40 here the past few days and almost all the snow has melted so all the progress the lake made is being undone. One or two days below 20 and the bays will finally be fishable though
>>
>>918807
It is because most places only have bass as the largest fish for sport fishing that is the most consistent to catch. Musky are great, but there's not as many nor as easily caught when compared to bass. Catfish are easier to hook and normally put up an okay fight when compared to bass plus there's a chance to catch lunkers. Sunfish are very energetic when hooked.

Personally, I'd rather catch carp, catfish, walleye, stripers, and musky/pike.
>>
>>918813
I'd prefer catfish any day to bass. You don't have a flashy tacklebox and 15 rods when you're targeting them but a 5lb cat will work you on a medium rod. Every so often I'll hook into an eater sized channel when using my UL to catch panfish for bait and those fights can easily last 5 minutes with boat work required.

>I like the fly pics, they're neat.

>>
>>918807
They usually put up a more interesting fight for me. Cats and carp just go straight to the bottom, where bass will go all through the water column.
>>
>>918815
Here you have to toss back all the ones over 17" due to pollution and those don't fight all that much. When fishing for shovel heads for catch and release, you might get 10-15 of them in a night that are as heavy as a big bag of feed. You might have to fight them for an hour each. So, from dusk to dawn you are working fish. Your arms feel like jelly all the next day you are awake.
>>
>>918701

>>918772
It's okay, friend. I still have never even gotten to catch a bass in my area. Non saltwater is hard :(

The only /out/ thing I got this christmas was a nice life jacket from my mother whos terrified of kayaks and a few devil horse lures from my father. Pretty excited for the devil horses because I haven't used them since I was about 13. I remember them being a speckled trout killer.
>>
>>918820
Where I live we have shoal bass which are a much more satisfying bass experience. They live in rivers and love to dive in between rocks or jump when they are hooked so many fish get lost on the fight. Similar to creek smallmouth fishing but these guys are much more aggressive feeders.

>>918820
+1. 90% of largemout are a better fight than a similar sized carp or catfish. Peacocks are the best. Mayans and other cichlids fight super hard for their size. And sneks hit really hard and just dig and dig and don't give up. Largemouth are still fun but from time to time I will hook one like 30yds out, reel it in for 25yds with very little effort, and then it will surface and see me and finally try to run.
>>
>>918835
It's comparing a tractor pull to a drag race. Catfish and bass both fight just not the same way.

So i got $200 for xmas.

Build a custom lamiglas for fluke busting? Or buy a new reel and a bunch of tackle.

The lamiglas i could document the building process and post here if you guys would like to see that. Ive never done it before but have done a ton of research already.

On the other hand, tsunami has come out with the Tsunami Sheild, which is a fully sealed reel for only 100 bucks. Would work great for surf and kayak. And then i could blow the remainder on bucktails and power pro.

What do you guys think?

St croix ULs are incredible. I've got on paired up with a shimano 500 class and 2lb.

But you may want a light for trout or General creek work. Hard to get hook sets on trout with a UL and working fish away from rocks in current will be difficult. But go for the UL if you think you'll be catching more panfish than anything else

Graphite rods are usually a lot more sensitive, as far as actually feeling the lure/bites.

>It makes the fights much more enjoyable..
I'm not disagreeing with you about glass making fights more enjoyable, but do you mean because of how much glass rods flex?
>>
>>919044
What lb test and length of the rod is good? For length I'm thinking a short 5' would be good since I'm in close quarters with trees sometimes.
>>
>>919067
My UL is 5ft6in which is pretty standard. Any shorter and you'll have issues with longer more precise casting. I use 2lb mono since it casts easier with 1/16-1/32oz lures but I've used 4lb before without issues. I'd use 4lb if you expect to be jigging as you can't really work a snag out with 2lb.

My bigger river rod is a 7ft medium loaded with 6lb mono. It still works pretty well on the lighter lures but the hook sets on bass and trout are much easier
>>
>>918889
jon b is okay but every time it cuts to music its way too loud compared to the rest of the audio and it pisses me off having to chose between changing my volume constantly through the video or letting it be annoyingly loud
>>918898
bottom line though, they get paid to fish. i don't care who you are, if you're in this thread, that's living the dream
>>918946
do the build
>>918997
glass rods have a different kind of sensativity
>graphite
griphite is good for feeling light ticks, like when a fish just barely touches a slow presentation and will only hold for a second
>fiberglass
its more bendy and wibbly, so while you wont feel that tick, you will see it for sure
>fun factor?
well, i've taken bluegill by accident while carp fishing on an 8 weight glass rod (it says 7 but it casts 7 for shit, but 8 is a dream on there), and even a bluegill will be fun on that fiberglass, because not a lot of pressure bends the rod in half, so it does make fish feel bigger, where as when i grab my other heavy rod (an 8 weight med-fast) and hook a bluegill i'm hardly bending, and its just annoying
so i don't think that's a material thing, i think that's an action thing, the slower action i think is what's more fun, not so much the material.
>>919046
sounds fun
in either april, may, or june im going to go to the coast of Florida for a week or two, see about some saltwater fly fishing, maybe pin rigging, just get some nice fish, and ill definitely be eating fish too
i hear dolphins wil be around too and i hear they can be pricks to fishermen
>>919067
i think its worth it to go 6'6 or even 7, you can still flick a lure pretty far if you bend the rod tip back by holding the lure (to load the rod that way) and let it flick the lure for you if you're in super tight
then i'd either go #6 braid or #4 mono

Light action rods, 2-12lbs test line, and jigs with hair, feather, or plastic. You can use the jigs with jig spinners or by themselves. Anything with a minnow pattern in 1.5-2 inches long will work including streamer flies. Colors should be white, silver, and bright for most situations. Darker colors with some flashy jig heads and jig spinner or darker streamers with Flashabou and/or Sparkle Braid for murky, dust/dawn, and deep water. Streamers should have weighted eyes.

As long as they can grab the whole thing in one bite, it could work. Panfish just bit different from bass because they like to grab the end of shit and tear at it. It's the same thing when I'm running Texas-rigged bass baits and a snakehead hits them. Unless they can grab the whole thing in one bite, it is really tough to hook them because they will grab the back half of a worm or lizard and run with it and won't actually try and take the whole bait down until they get back to their hiding spot.

What size grub was that? 2"?

Get some prism tape, scissors, drill (drill press is best), a hacksaw (Dremel with fiber reinforced cutting discs is best), some split rings (split ring pliers are really nice), hooks, and old/cheap stainless steel eating utensils.

Just cut the handles off the spoons and forks and shape the handles into the shapes and sizes you need. Drill a couple holes. Slap on some prism tape. Attach the split rings and hooks. You could probably make over 200 for as little as $50, depending on where you source your materials. Hooks will cost the most.

>this is literally what I'm doing

Here's some reposts of old tests I was doing. I have a pack of 100 tea spoons now and can make 400 lures of 3 types with them. They cost about $0.50 each to make since hooks are usually half the cost.

I need to find like a 2-4 suspending jerk. I might give up on it for awhile if next time I go if the fineness worm doesn't catch anything.

>>919736
I mean it would most likely catch fish the same I just didn't know it was on purpose or not lol

>I literally have all the tools in my shed.

I have them within arm's reach...

Here's the first attempt. I didn't finish up the metal and remove the tool marks. The plastic is from some random plastic food container (HDPE, rather it be PET). I also need a proper center punch that can be used on this really hard SS. My pinch punch is worthless for it. I'm out of prism tape. I tried to match the length of the smaller ones in >>919726

I think it took more time tinkering with the split rings than actually making the spoon because I put them on backwards then put the flipper on the wrong side.

You would need to sell them to an Asian-run restaurant for best results. Pepsi could breaking to the snakehead market for that.

Ebay has a ton of them, but with shipping and handling they all cost over $5 I think. Regular online stores seem to be in the $3.50-$4 range, unknown S&H.

Why do you make hundreds of the same lure and small variations of the same lure? I don't know if you're the fly tying anon too but if not holy shit do something else with your time. They were cool at first but damn it's the same thing posted multiple times in every thread.

Any recommendations for hardbaits for saltwater fishing (mainly targettng redfish and white/sand trout)? I mostly use soft-plastic grub/shrimp but something about hardbaits looks fun and looks cool to collect.

I make so many of 1 thing because I sell the extras to make up for the initial purchase of the few I keep for myself. Since you need a few variations of the same lure as part of normal fishing, I make 1,000s of lures and flies each year. In the winter, I can't garden because I've not built a greenhouse yet. Thus, my indoor hobbies pay for everything. Fly tying and lure making is only one thing. I don't sell the flies, since there's no market in that due to China. Lures are the only thing you can really make money with in the USA. Since I am also a subsistence fishermen, making my own gear is necessary.

I do my best not to repost things like this reposted image >>919742 but as part of conversation it may be prudent to do so. I also try to never post without posting OC. Like this fly, I made for this post, to reply to you.

Thank you, for your contribution to the thread, anon.

get some weedless spoons, and some spooks, the ones that float, and the ones that sink a little like1 or 2 feet (i think theyre usually called glide baits?)
then add some flukes to the mix, split tail and paddle tail.

Don't mind that guy, keep postin' them flys. Better to have some unique pics along with your post then no pic at all.

You ever consider trying to make your own bass jigs? That's one thing I'd really like to get into so I could custimive them to my specification but I'm not sure how hard it would be
>>
>>920079
I did not. I threw a spook. Jitterbug next for sure.
>>
>>920045
Am also interested in anons question, also can anyone recommend a hard suspending bait? I've heard that they're pretty good when winter patterns are a thing, since they're schooled up and also allows you to go over the oyster beds without getting snagged

Same deal here, but this lure has the "claws" stock together, the big ones at the end.

Should I separate them or are they better together and uniform?

i like my husky jerk, replace the hooks with some heavier octopus hooks for salt and im sure it would do exactly what you want
tx just leave it how it is

imo you gotta go the whole way trough and skin hook it, especially if you're near anything more than just rocks, and even thrn skin hooking is a good idea
>>920151
seperate them, those connections are scraps from the moulding process that ensures its it's cast propperly

What's the difference between the two hooks above, offset and ewg? When do you use the other?

Had these wacky hooks with this bass assortment too, fitted a worm on it and got it skin hooked.

I have zinc ingots I made some time ago and that would be a good project for them. I don't want to use lead due to environmental and health concerns from general handling.

Off-set EWG: use for thick bodied plastics like grubs, where there needs to be more space for the plastic to flex into during a bite. Without this extra space, the hook point may not be exposed well enough out of the plastic to hook the fish.

Off-set Straight: for thin bodied plastics like thin worms.

Bent Kahle: Same as the Off-set EWG hooks.

Off-set or Bent: these crooked shafts near the hook eye help to prevent the plastic from sliding down the shaft and to help align the plastic from hook eye to hook point so to aid in making the lure weedless.
>>
>>920159
EWG hooks work better for fatter baits like those crawdads.
>>
>>920164
>>920163
thanks!

So the gap is space for the plastic to be bit down on, allowing the hook to stick out.

It seems like I got enough space however with those non-ewg hooks. Ill keep that in mind however when I rig swimbaits- gonna use the EWG

Does anyone know of a good (visual) guide on how to use a baitcaster? I've read up on the pastebin in the OP but I still really don't get it so to say. Maybe I'm an idiot.

I've been given a late 70s Shimano Bantam 100 in almost perfect condition and would love to land some fish on this thing but I don't want to cause a bird's nest either.
>>
>>920184
Go to a lake and when you get there youtube "how to cast a baitcaster" and follow along and try it while you are watching. Just go slow at first. Turn the brakes up more then you might need and keep your casting arm's elbow tucked into your body. You want a linear and smooth swing to allow the line to unravel at an even rate

Talk about shitty fishing advice

This bait is terrible.
>>
well, looks like i misguessed where i was on my comp build and it wound up costing 175 more than i anticipated, so there goes my mauser barrel and scope base, the schitt i need for my bike is totalling 410 before hard sadle bags (ammo cans) and exhaust pipe so there goes my tying vice. then i need another thing for about 200that i might be able to order friday, depending on if that refund came in
so yeah,
i can put off a few things with my bike since ive only got about 300 christmas money left, but before sumer i need that tank, and before florida i need those hard cases, that new cowling, and a higher wind screen... unless i can figure out how to fix my cowling without buying a new one
>>920159
the on on top is technically a worm hook, the pther is for fatter baits
heres when to use each one in my experience
>offset worm hook: never
>EWG: always
also that hook youve got on there now is supposed to make your bait spin, you need a swivel with it
>>920156
pretty good, maybe skin hooked a little deep
>>920163
use the zinc! i bet it would be cool
>>920184
just spool it up with some thick mono (14 or 17) hok it up to about an ounce of lead, crank the spool tensioner, and just start learning

+1. Only time I really use a regular gap worm hook is on stuff like the Zoom Trick Worm. They are long and skinny so I will use a 4/0 or 5/0 and that way the hook goes a bit further down the worm compared to a 3/0 EWG.

Fuckin Mook getting rid of (You). But yeah, I was gonna say I use 4/0 more than anything. Only things I wouldn't feel comfortable using the 4/0 on is bigger swimmers like those Gambler shads and then real small stuff like the 4" PowerBait worms and 4" Zoom lizards.

Finally time for #115
