Here and also general heavyweighthiker. No nylon or shit, canvas leather and cast iron is what i use. It is not because i like to carry around extra weight, but i don´t care about it as much as i care about the robust feel those things give you in comparison to the fine ultralight garments. Those things feel like they are made for kids to play with.
It is a different kind of experience, so i don´t think it makes sense to compare it at all.

Go out in your backyard/local park and camp a few nights. Don't worry about running back to the house or to the store for things, that is what this is for. Go buy the stuff you find that you need for utility or comfort. Once you have reached the point where you can stay there indefinitely without running to the house or store it means you have everything you need to use.
