i have a '95 land cruiser that ive had for about 2 years now. fully stock except has a set of 33"s on it.
thinking of finally jumping into some actual upgrades so i can tackle some more serious terrain and get further /out/
probably going to go with
35" bfg ko2s
3 inch ome suspension lift
roof rack + mounts for hi lift jack/shovel/jerry cans/axe/etc.
might consider front bull bar as well but that will probably be further into the future

thoughts?
>>
>>809668
So this is a car camping thread?
>ultralight is for faggots
So sitting on your fat ass while driving a car is less manly than carrying gear into the mountains on your back?
What have you been smoking?
Car exhaust?

And there is already a thread about this
>>798515
But I guess checking the catalog is for faggots too
>>
>>809681
who said this was about being manly faggot
and i actually think ultralight is cool this is just the total opposite of it

and this is a thread about vehicle based travel i.e. what your set up is, what your gear is and where you have driven.
the 'officially /out' car covers none of that

1996 XJ

>How is it set up?
Stock right now. I've only gotten new tires, mechanical/preventative maintenance fixes, and a cheap rack up top.

>what is your kitchen arrangement?
Camp stove, cooler, and a massive Dutch oven.

>>809681
Go be annoying in a different thread, anon. Most of us hike as well and do plenty of backpacking. Overlanding or 4x4 in general isn't about being "manly," it's just about having fun. It's kind of like the difference between fly fishing and fishing off the shore: I love fly fishing in the mountains, but every once and a while it's fun to grab some camp chairs, a case of beer, and hang out with your buddies while you lazily throw a bobber in the water and go "fishing." Summer down, little one.

>>809723
Haha, I almost got a Subie before I decided on my XJ.

>>809750
I'm sure there is sometimes, but I just like trail riding and testing my old jeep to see where she can go.

>>809753
That looks like a sweet setup!

>>809762
I know all of those feels, anon.
>4x4
>manual transmission
>no power locks
>no power windows
>no power mirrors
>no a/c
Though to be fair, my A/C works, I just need to replace the blower motor. I've been lazy and just leave vents on and let the air push through it when I get up to speed. It's only like a $30 repair off of rock auto. Man I probably ought to get on top of that...

Any ideas on how to turn an old Cherokee into an overland capable vehicle? I already have new front and rear bumpers, as well as a 3.5" suspension lift kit waiting for me at home, but that won't be until the end of August. Unfortunately, Cherokees aren't the roomiest vehicles, though that comes in handy on some of the more narrow trails.

Tacoma.jpg

2002 Tacoma.

I got it from my dad, who had it lifted about 2 inches in the front to balance out the stock lift.

He also put Fox shocks on it, and some decent tires, but I haven't taken it out yet.

It's not a TRD, like the one in the pic, but I can lock up the rear differential and everything if I needed to.

I want to go /out/ with it, but I'm worried that I'm gonna fuck it up, is there anything I can do to it, to make it more beefy when going into some shit?

This is the camping rig.
'89 Jeep Comanche
4.0, 4X4, auto, shortbed
Pretty much just throw everything in the bed. Usually sleep in a tent but the back is doable with 2 people and the tailgate down(I'm 6'1" and so is the bed)

Plan on getting some 31's when I wear through these and maybe a cheap 2 inch lift, but its pretty capable most places I go
>>
>>809670
>3 inch ome suspension lift

I swear, 3 inches is like the golden child for 'muh off road truck'

lemme guess, you're just gonna install spacers, to get your 3 inches?

Has a K&N intake, had some exhaust work done to it (redneck-ass exhaust as pictured got stripped off, fixed it right), VHF/UHF two-way, stereo/backup-camera... great rig for what I need it for. Probably even a little overkill.

Just wrapped up a rebuild this weekend, today's the first day I've ridden it in a while. Little oil leak cropped up, going to have to chase that down and fix that. Otherwise looking good.... get some more break-in miles on the new top-end, do an oil change, then wreck it innadirt.

And the winter toy - Assault 800. It stays mostly-stock, since I race improved-stock classes.
Need to pop the clutches off for some magic from my machinist. Got things dialed in pretty well last spring, but there's still some work I'd like done to both primary and secondary.

Front-end on the Assault is 41"-wide... great on the hillcross track or trail, shitty in the backcountry where I do most of my riding. 36" front end will go on later this fall (Shocks, A-arms, billet spindles, tie rods). Might even upgrade the rear shocks, and i've got a set of rails that I need to swap out sometime too.

It, along with the moto, are getting vinyl wrap.

Cooler in the bed of the truck, tote for dry stuff, grill-stove on the tailgate.
Or drop the trailer and head into town, depending on where we are.

In the summer on motos, we usually stop in town to fuel up and eat.

I love the weathered look of it. My Cherokee has a little bit of character, but not super beat up.

If it's pouring rain and I don't feel like setting up my tent or hammock/fly then I just roll down the seats and open the back to sleep in. It's not exactly spacious considering I'm 6", but it's not terrible.

Same fuel goes into truck, motorcycle, snowmobile, and generator.

And have fun starting the rig in sub-zero temps.

Common fuel and cold-starts are the primary reasons I went with the PW over a CTD.

I was a little concerned with the 5.7L, previous trucks have both been 5.9L half-tons... but with the gearing in that truck, it has no problems pulling my trailer.

agreed.
this place is slower but the overlanding threads are usually much better on here.

which model tepui is that? i am thinking of copping the ruggedized xl so i can fit my wife and dog inside with plenty of extra space.
hows your experience been with the brand?
>>
That is the Grand Savanna. Same sleeping foot print as the Rugged XL but it has the annex.
The wife loves the annex as i set up a toilet in there. Its fully enclosed so no bugs or critters.
We also have the dog sleep down there as hes 75lbs and would be a bit hard to get up and down the ladder.
If you dont need the 4 person check out their sky models. They have an openable roof so you can star gaze while lying in bed.
Also its worth noting only the Savanna and the
Antana have Annexs that enclose the ladder. Meaning you can get out of bed down the ladder and get dressed standing in full privacy.
And i love it. The only con is when packing it up the zipper LOVES to catch the first side and its a bitch to get lose. Just have to be very careful zipping the cover on the first side.
