I’m watching “The Survivalist” (2015) and about half way thru when I noticed the plastic water/pop bottles stuck on sticks in the guy's garden.
What’s up with that?
Also, the movie has T&A.
I don't think a movie could ever give me the same joy, whimsy, and excitement as this movie. Not now. Not now that I'm all growed-up.

Oh god man, this movie is 10/10, forever. Anything that might be bad or poorly done about this movie is completely overshadowed by Dan Aykroyd as Roman Craig. Fucking genius, and combined with John Candy being *prime* John Candy this movie is excellent.

Samsies. That movie still stands up on every level.
Not so much with White Water Summer.

White Water Summer blew my mind when I was a lil'un. Watched it again like 2 years ago, and god fucking dammit that movie is retarded and never should have been made. I remembered a couple choice scenes so I was able to relive it a little, but man... that movie is a sadly 2/10. Sincerely.

Waterers with tiny holes and strings threaded through them?
Because of necessity to use creek water and limited ability to collect it?
Guess.

My grandad does that in his garden to keep away moles. I don't know how successful it is, but the idea is that the wind blowing the bottles makes them rattle about, and the vibrations cary down the stick into the ground which makes moles go "nope".
Though he usually does it with glass bottles. I guess it'd work with plastic too. I have no idea if that's really why it's in the movie, but that's what i assumed when i saw it.

Thinking about it more, I suppose the rattling might scare birds and other critters away too?

I'm sure plenty of city kids were inspired to go /out/ after watching Totoro

I use Catalog view for all boards but maybe if you had used an _appropriate pic_ to lead off your thread, I would have noticed it.
I remember watching tons of them on video when I was a kid. There were lots of them from the 70s when back-to-the-land was all the rage.
Mountain Family Robinson
Grizzly Adams
My Side of the Mountain
Seven Alone
The Adventures of the Wilderness Family
Against a Crooked Sky
The Sea Gypsies
The Last Flight of Noah's Ark
Across the Great Divide etc.
