Long time catfisher in the James and close by rivers. Also go out in the bay 5-6 times a year. Today was my first day trout fishing up in the blue ridge mountains while camping. I caught a bunch but gut hooked every single one. Felt bad throwing the babies back and they did nothing but float and die.

You sound like a nigger. That's why you shouldn't soak bait unless you intend to harvest the fish.

Hey Skid,

The fly fishing one?

Like anything else Skid types, there's probably a few useful nuggets in there if you can manage to read through it. If you want to edit or update it, go for it. Just email the final version to me (if it's too long to post here) and I will put it on the Pastebin.

GetSomeMemes at gmail

Same for anything else in the Pastebin or Imgur. If anybody has something to add or change, just email me.

I try to post most of the useful infographs and shit from these threads into the Imgur. I wish Pastebin allowed pics because it would be nice to attach images with some of the posts.

>>1019739
I thought with most kayaks that have been well used, you are likely to get a little water in the hull and it's straight as long as it's just a little bit.
>>
>>1019732
Hey, would you count backing as a type of fly line? I'm thinking I'll move it to a separate discussion after the typical lines (dt, wf), but before leaders and tippet.
>>
>>1019744
Filling with water and a little water are two very different things, mine never gets more than maybe a 1/4 cup in the hull and thats because i don't keep it covered.

>>1019753
Oops, didnt see this. I would say it's not fly line just because it's 20-30 pound braided dacron labled "fly line backing"
>>
Do you even need a leader for crankbaits or could I just use braided line without a leader
>>
How big of a spoon is too big if i'm fishing for Pike/Walley?
>>
>>1019765
You can run braid straight to a crank, and thats the normal way to fish them. If you're having particular trouble getting them to run deep enough (braid floats) or the fish are super spooky you can run a fluorocarbon leader though.
>>
>>1019769
There really isn't an upper limit for pike, I've had them hit baits bigger than them while fishing for muskies. I couldn't tell you on walleye.

SpiderWire still makes that Flouro-Braid I think. I grabbed a 10lb 300yd spool out of the clearance bin at Bass Pro. It works alright if I want a Mepps to run a foot deeper and helps keep lighter Texas rigs down on the bottom. Only problem is it's SpiderWire so it frays.

The only question is it seems that it is only distributed through Costco so I guess the listed price is missleading
>>
>>1019934
I know I've asked a couple times but the inside of the kayaks hull should be water proof right?

It seems like anything they drilled or attached onto the hull, they applied a layer of sealant on the inside, I had read complaints that it filled with water, though these reviews were from last year so maybe they fixed It?

Also, how do you change tackle in a Kayak, just seems like all kinds of bad things can happen during that process

>>1019859
Think bright, visible colors. Panfish like to sight feed, and those colors stand out.

Chartreuse, orange, pink, white, yellow and black. They'll take a hit at anything that looks like a bug or a small minnow. They especially like dangly bits that provide motion, which is why a lot of panfish flies have foam legs. It's also why marabou jigs work so well when suspended beneath a bobber; the motion of the bobber on top shakes the jig just enough to attract gills.

depends on your hatches. and the way they put on the loops. did they use a sealant on the screw or rivet holes? lots of people end up adding extra sealant (3m boat caulk) and seals. Put some pool noodles in the interior of the kayak if it does ever get loaded too much at least it wont sink.

to change out tackle i usually reach around or side saddle the kayak. I keep a smaller box in between my legs to hold things i know im going to use. did you look at utube for re entry tips? you should.

Went out this morning to a lake that has a lot of bass according to biologists' survey information available on the state wildlife website. I didn't do great, just caught a decent bass and channel cat on a brush hog. Meanwhile my buddy got this 4 lber. And he had a bigger one on, but it jumped and threw the hook.

Going to be hitting up some south Florida Piers in a few weeks & could use some advise. What are the must have lures & tackle I should try? Is there a specific bubbler/bucket combo I should use to keep bait fish alive or will just about any setup I pick up at a tackle shop work?
>>
>>1020173
your pic related is a good thing to have, a friend of mine named marlin (he's actually in englewood florida now, dont expect great fishing, he told me a red tide just cleared out a little while ago and fish have not moved back in yet) swears by something called "silly willies" i think theyre also called pompano jigs. bucktail jigs are also essential. and as for live bait, a few circle hooks (2, 3/0, 5/0) should cover you, and a few wire leaders should be on hand. and for a bubbler, a foam bucket with a lid to keep your bait from cooking alive, and any bubbler should do. and be sure to talk to the guys working at baitshops, try to find a local business, they will have people who know what they are on about

Man, hate to blog but I think I'm starting to get bored of fishing. I've been doing it for a few years now and not having a boat really really sucks.

Other than the fact that I feel like I've fished every public fishing hole I'm sick of dealing with crackheads/junkies/general retards that hang around the spots. I think once I get a boat in about a year or so I'll be a lot more enthusiastic about it.

Anyone ever felt the same?

Yeah honestly. Pretty much the only place I'll fish from shore is the beach. Otherwise I'll go out on my pos boat, but sometimes I feel like I'm going out just for the motion of doing so, especially when the weather is going to suck. It's not like I have bundles of time to go fishing so when the opportunity is there I go regardless of how I feel about it.

to those that kayak. do you wear a lifevest when going?
I don't know rules or laws but I've been wearing one. but the only problem is that it's rather cumbersome and is impeding my movement around the craft.

would I be forced to get a new life jacket, or can I just forgo it because I am an impeccable swimmer?
>>
>>1020719
Give new fisherman a taste, before they get hopelessly addicted buying tons of shiny lures.
>>
>>1020719
Almost every fishing store does a sale around spring/the spawn. That's also when a lot of the new lures and reels come out so they put the old stuff on sale to clear out inventory.
>>
>>1020735
No anon, wear a lifevest at all times. If you need to spend big monies for one that works for you then do it. Waterfaring is statistically one of the most dangerous activities you can do. None of the thousands of people who have died thought they would die. Just wear your shit, friend.
>>
>>1020735
ALWAYS wear some form of PFD. If you need to drop monies on a self-inflating belt or something, do it, but a decent kayaking-cut life vest starts around $30.

The primary reason people die on the water is they get knocked out. Doesn't matter how good a swimmer you are if you're unconscious.
>>
>>1020743
None of the literally dozens of ones (both local and chain) near me do...all their good fishing sales are in March which is almost always a solid month before spawn. Yeah the chain stores will have some okay sales all year long on fishing shit, but the really good sales are late winter or early spring.
>>
>>1020719
They aren't selling anything fishing related. Mostly just apparel which is always on sale anyways.

>>1020735
It's probably like most watercraft where you need to have one on the boat but don't need to wear it. But on a kayak, I suggest either a good water ski type one that you can still move in or get one of those emergency ones that automatically inflates if you go over.

If you're out in cooler water in the spring, you would be suprised how hard it is to swim. Even if your a strong swimmer, you will start cramping like crazy and can barely swim.
>>
>>1020735
I use one when I'm when I'm paddling across open water, when it's really hot, or if I'm not feeling that good. If I'm paddling in some shallow water close to the shore I don't worry about it too much.

Also, look up the laws. This is something you should've done before you started yaking lol.
>>
>>1020762
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Why give discounts on shit you'll sell a lot of anyway at the height of the time you're selling a lot of it anyway?

Ever notice how pretty much every store ever runs sales on stuff that's out of season or is about to come into season, not when it's in full-swing? Bass Pro is doing that right now.
>>
>>1020757
Last time I checked March is in the spring, which for a whole lot of a states is when the prespawn/spawn is. And it makes sense to sell stuff at the height of the season because people would rather go to a place that has stuff on sale than somewhere that doesn't.

It's not like their sale prices are usually that great anyway. It's just to get more customers. People are more likely to pick up something they wouldn't have originally if it's on sale. So a store could but some lures that aren't moving well at 20% off and lose maybe a dollar, then throw like 10% off a few reels and make more money because more people buy from them.

Sales in the off season makes sense too, I'm just saying there's definitely reasons for things to be on sale during the season. Especially a long one like fishing season.
>>
>>1020773
>which for a whole lot of a states is when the prespawn/spawn is
Tennessee here. Week out of June and the bluegill just started digging their nests. Bass aren't even in prespawn yet. This is typical.

80% of the US isn't even considered prespawn until mid-May, 50% won't spawn until June, 20% won't spawn until July most years. Yeah, there's outlier years, but they're fucking outliers. Basically only the Gulf Coast and the southern half of Florida will even be prespawn in March, which is ~10% of the US as it won't even include all of the landmass of those coastal states.

And I worded that poorly. The actually-good sales will start about halfway through January and the last of them will be in March. At least for all the stores within 100 miles of me. Anything after March 5th will be 5-10% off a few items here and there as they focus more on boating and camping shit throughout mid-late spring and early summer, and then the hunting shit starts to go on sale last half of June.

Does she work somewhere with that stuff?

Also for pic related, I know I have mentioned this place on /out/ but maybe not in these threads. This is the cabin in northern WI, on a crystal clear lake and it's so nice up there. 7mi from the nearest tiny town. Damn bears.

He told me one of the scariest encounters tho was years back when his grandpa was up there a lot. He heard knocking at the cabin door, opens it, and mama bear is there scratching with 2 cubs right by her. He slams the door, runs in for the 12ga, comes back out and luckily she ran off after he shot a few into the air.

They're just black bears so you don't need to go full .50cal but you don't really want to wander around without some type of gun. Even when we were kids up there like 10 years old we would be armed. Kinda funny to think about that now but his grandpa also taught us hella gun safety
>>
>>1020776
Which lakes are you fishing? I looked at a couple of major lakes in Tennessee and they're all around 60 degrees which is definitely in the prespawn.

And I'm not saying the stores are gonna have huge sales (a flash sale is never huge), but that it would make sense for fishing stuff to be on sale during popular times.
>>
>>1020789
Center Hill, about 3 dozen different subdivision ponds/small lakes, and 2 farm ponds. Even the comparatively shallow farm ponds are just shy of 60* currently (one is 59* surface temp and deepest of ~8ft, the other is 57* surface temp but a 25ft deep one). Center Hill is still in the upper 40's for surface temp at 7am, but it's deep as shit (there's 250ft deep channels and one hole that's ~400ft deep).
>>
>>1020789
Oh, and yeah they'll have small or shit sales all year round, but my point was directed at the guy who was disappointed in it not being a big or good sale. Like, no shit, they have no reason to take large percentages off things.
>>
>>1020796
Aren't most of y'alls lakes more like large rivers too? I'm sure that doesn't help the temps any lol. Especially if they have the water flowing every day.

I'm surprised those ponds aren't in prespawn at least, but ponds can be weird all around.

>>1020835
To be fair that's probably why dicks always has sales kek
>>
>>1020719
Idk. I keep track of Dick's online sale a lot since they have reasonable limit for free shipping. They seem to only go on good sale during season prime for fishing as well. Lik during winter, their sale page barely have stuffs. Spring and summer approaching and now there's tons of good deals on lures like buy 3 get 3 free good shit like spro bucktail. It seems like for Dick's sporting good case, it has to do with inventory. They only move fishing stuffs in fast during fishing season, but when it comes, they also have to get rid of old stuff at the same time. Out of season, they simply not stock new item and be content with leaving old shit hanging around till next season hit.
>>

>it makes sense for fishing stuff to be on sale during popular times.
No it doesn't. You put stuff on sale when it's NOT popular because then people will change their behavior and go buy it.

If you put things on sale when they're going to sell anyway, all you're doing is cutting into your profit margins for no reason.
It's why men's clothing is almost always on sale at department stores and women's stuff almost never is. They know women do the shopping, so they give them an excuse to come in, and rake in the cash when they get something for themselves

I just found the most comfiest fishing spot ever. It's a long stretch of river that's knee deep in most areas, even the middle of it. It has a few deep spots that are around 4 feet deep, though the water is so clear you can see the bottom no mater how deep. The bottom is mostly rocks with occasionally large areas of pure sand. It has large rock formations that you can sit on in the middle of the river. Its surrounded by trees overhanging the river on all sides. Has carp, bass, channelcats and the most aggressive panfish ever. It could possibly have bowfin but I've only caught them many miles downstream where it's deep. Literally the best river I've ever visited, best river for wading into.
Went without my phone last time but I'll post a pic of it later this week when I go back.

>>
>>1020945
2" tubes on a 1/32oz jighead.

Cast, let fall to bottom, let sit for a second, pulsing retrieve. Odds are good the 'gills will hit it on the fall, and if not the shellcrackers will suck it up on the bottom.

Also a chance at crappie on the retrieve as well as the bigger 'gills sit deeper.

If I do get an 8wt I'm probably gonna look for something in the $200-300 range since I'll only want one.

The girl at the register said they don't have a date when they're officially closing, but it'll be by August for sure. She didn't know if they were gonna drop the rods and stuff any lower either.

I like to hook them through the tail but it depends on what you want the fish to do. If you hook them in the lips they will swim down But in the tail they will swim up. So for example if there's grass you want to keep them out of the tail is good.

You're doing it wrong. Staying in one spot while catfishing and complaining about how boring it is would be like bass fishing where you chucked the same lure into the same spot over and over for an hour.

If you put a bait close enough to a catfish, it will pick it up pretty damn fast.

You have to move around. Target drop offs, overhangs, eddies, structure, etc, just like fishing bass. If a single area doesn't produce any bites in 15 minutes or so, move on.

I just went to a little park pond a couple minute's drive from my place where they stock catfish. Everyone's just sitting around with a couple of rods, casting as far as they can into the center of the pond, and soaking worms/worms/stinkbait. Not catching shit and getting their bait stolen by bluegill.

I mean it's not horrible, as most of them were also just hanging out and drinking/cooking/teaching kids how to fish, but they weren't really catching anything.

Me? I caught some of the bluegill, cut them up and started fishing them under the dock, around a submerged tree over in about 1 ft of water. I caught the 5 fish limit in a little over an hour. All my bites were within about 10 seconds to 5 minutes of my bait hitting the water. One even bit while the bait will still falling.

It's fucking summer.
Everybody's going everywhere looking for the stuff. There's no need right now It's the same reason that nobody's got AC systems on sale either; this is the time when the demand is there-it's going to move whether you run a sale or not. Might as well make the most money you can while you can, so you can keep the lights on during the slow times.

>>1021132
Quit thinking like a poorfag and start thinking like a store owner.
Stores specializing in fishing gear don't have sales on fishing gear at the start of the peak season because that's when they make their money. You don't make money by giving away your profits when you don't have to.
Right now they don't know how the summer is going to shape up, and limited resupply is a thing at peak season. They want to sell that inventory it's true, but again, it's peak season-gear is going to sell anyway. Store owners ALSO want to maximize their revenue; that means not running sales until they have to. They don't see a need to get it to move more right now-the good days have just started, and things are moving like they should.

If you want peak season sales on fishing gear, look for them to start towards the end of the peak season in mid July or August. If sales are off and they need to goose their sales to make numbers, that's when they'll run a sale.
But not now. It's still way too early.

Do those birds work? I was looking at them in the store, but they are sort of expensive.
>>
>>1021160

I kind of had to reteach myself how to catfish. I used to bring a half dozen rods, try to find the most comfortable place to fish, set up camp, and then wait for fish to come to me.

When I got a kayak, I started drifting around. I soon began to notice that I could paddle around for a long time without a bite, but the second I went over a deep channel, near some half sunken trees, or cast under an overhang, I would usually hook up a catfish very quickly. I'd then stop and pull 2 or more catfish from the same spot, then I would move on without a bite until I hit the next spot and then BAM! both rods are doubled over again.

I started applying it to bank fishing. I now only carry 2 or 3 rods at most (1 for catching bluegill on the fly or chucking lures for the occasional bass). If the fish are biting, you won't be able to keep up with more than 2 rods and if you aren't casting to where the fish actually are, 6+ rods aren't really going to make them bite.

>Why do businesses have sales for the Holiday season? Don't they know people are going to be out buying gifts anyway?

>>Why do businesses selling vehicles and furniture/fixtures have sales during tax refund season? Don't they know people will already be looking to spend their refunds on big ticket items already?

>>Why do clothing stores have sales for kids clothes in the fall? Parents will already be shopping for back to school clothes anyway.

Sometimes you have a sale when you know people are out looking for your stuff because you don't want them to go to the competition. If it's the height of fishing season and you're selling all your stuff at normal price while the other tackle shop is having a big sale, more people are going to be in the other tackle shop.

Sure, you'll sell good in the summer, but a sale- which usually just brings things to not "outrageous prices" as opposed to their usual outrageous prices- is still damned profitable if the number of people it brings into the business from competitors is much higher.

So, i've got large mouth bass at a local spot that's within distance, yellow perch, and american eels.

>>
>>1021206
bass like cover. You dont need to fish deep for them, although cover can be found deep. Yellow Perch might prefer the deep pools to school up in. American eels are tough to catch, idk about them.
Bass and yellow perch can both be caught on small lures. Both have big mouths.

>>

Only for bluegill, smaller catfish, and the like.

The best catch-all live bait is live minnows/shiners/shad. If your state laws allow it and you want bigger fish, live or cut panfish also make superior bait for larger predatory fish up to and including catfish.

Not at all. They're easy to make.

Just be aware it could take upwards of a couple hours to get a meaningful amount of minnows, and they die pretty easy if you don't have an aerated bait bucket.

>>1021229
Yeah kinda, especially when you're just starting. The more you fish the more fish you'll catch, and you'll catch them more consistently. Fishing is sort of a numbers game and an art. There's not gonna be a fish everywhere you cast and they won't always want whatever lure throwing.
>>
>>1021162
>>1021203
Yes, it's stupid to consider talking about "business" while ignoring competition. What happen if other business has better price? Putting good sale mean people will check out your place more often and buy stuff, and might even buy things that aren't on sale as well. If you never ever have good sale and another place has a lot of good sale, customers will stop checking your store completely and always go to the other place for their fishing needs.

That is assuming they are actually "losing" on items for sale. I'm sure there is profit margin even on sale items.

Also, during season, people go out fishing more often to also go through stuffs more often. They will buy more as a result. They will go to places that have good sale.

Talking about sale. I just got some two more lucky craft lure from Dick's because they have buy one get one free.
>>
>>1021224
>I feel kinda bad cutting up panfish and putting them out there live. I mean, it's one thing to hook them, but another to cut them up before doing it.

Cutting off the head and then using them as bait causes inordinately less suffering than letting them die slowly on the end of a hook- struggling desperately for their lives before being swallowed whole and dying in the mouth of a larger fish. Cutting them up also means that 1 bluegill can bait anywhere between 2 to 5 hooks, as oppose to fishing them alive, where you have 1 per hook. Exponentially less suffering when you cut them up first.

>>I think i'll look into minnows, do I need one of those bait bucket things, or can I just keep em in a regular old bucket? Sorry if im asking newbie shit.

Depends on a variety of factors. To keep things simple though, I recommend just getting a small bait bucket (insulated if possible) and cheap areator. They also sell buckets with tiny holes in them that you can put into the water to ensure an endless supply of fresh water.

Also some species are hardier than others. Shad die unless handled with kid gloves. Minnows are a bit hardier. Bluegill are the hardiest. When you first fill up the bucket with bait, give them a couple minutes to shit and shed scales in panic (defense mechanism) then refreshen the water so it's clean and they don't choke as fast on their own filth.

You can also keep minnows in the fridge overnight. The low temperature causes them to consume less oxygen as long as it doesn't get TOO cold. They may look dead-ish when you get them out later, but if you let them slowly get back to room temperature, they should kick back to life. I sometimes do this if I buy them in the afternoon for a fishing trip the next day. That or leave them in a big areated bucket in a room with the AC cranked up.

A minnow trap works alright. The best way to collect live bait on the water is to buy and learn how to use a cast net. Cast nets are awesome.

Dick's employee here.

Somewhere between 75% and 90% of my customers in the fishing section are customers SOLELY because they're not willing to make the 10-20 minute drive elsewhere, because they're lazy, stupid, or both.

Hell I have one old guy that comes in every day, 7 days a week, at 1pm sharp, asking for a specific color of 1/4oz Rippin' Rap, and if we have them he will buy every single one we have (regardless of whether it's 1 or 30, and will be back the next day even if he bought 30 the day before). We do not restock daily, and I have tried to give him our freight schedule or have him call, every single time he comes in for 3 years now. There's a Bass Pro roughly 25 minutes away that *always* has them in stock, and he simply is not willing to drive that far (and instead burns probably $100+ in gas a week driving to my store). He has not once ever bought a product other than those Rippin' Raps from us. He has also refused to let me order them for him via our AOS system because he doesn't trust credit cards, even though I have told him we can get him an anonymous gift card with cash then use it (he insists that somehow someone will steal his credit card info even if we don't use his credit card for anything and I'm not even actually sure he has one).

This is the level of retardation consumerism has stooped to in modern times.

To add to what I was saying, if you aren't having fun or you find yourself getting frustrated when you aren't catching something then stop fishing. It's better to take a little break than be frustrated the whole time you're out. Also, remember to change up what you're doing. I know I'm bad about keeping one lure tied on and only using that for a long time.
>>
>>1021243
>Talking about sale. I just got some two more lucky craft lure from Dick's because they have buy one get one free.

>>
>>1021162
I take those Bass Pro surveys on the reciepts a lot because I'm bored and want to win that $500 survey.

I always write in the comments that they should have more sales. Whenever I go to Bass Pro, I only buy the stuff I need because everything is full price all the time. When I go to Dick's, I might only want to spend $30 on a couple lures but then I see a reel on sale for 30% off and have to grab it, then I need a rod and pay full price for the rod and some line too. So I'm still buying the couple original lures I wanted, and they might not be making any profit on the reel on sale, but then they make a bunch when I buy the rod and line at full price.

Economics and business sense. Any big stuff that Bass Pro carries and Dick's doesn't, I would rather just order it online.
>>
>>1021250
>Somewhere between 75% and 90% of my customers in the fishing section are customers SOLELY because they're not willing to make the 10-20 minute drive elsewhere, because they're lazy, stupid, or both.

Unless you're working at the other stores, you really don't know how much they're buying at those stores. Or online.

>>This is the level of retardation consumerism has stooped to in modern times.

Surely you understand that a person buying all the stock of a single item at a single store and refusing to order in bulk/online at the same time every single day is not really a standard case. That's not indicative of consumerism. That's indicative of his particular idiocy. Unless he's running some kind of con and there's a method to his madness- although I can't see what it is.

No, he fishes the same spot I fish. He's a shit fisherman trying to run a sinking lipless in a county park pond that's AT ITS DEEPEST ~7 feet, full of rocks/weeds/downed trees, and he loses them constantly.

I have watched him fish. He will lose a Rippin' Rap about once every 10 minutes. It's literally all he fishes. And yeah, he does occasionally catch a fish with it. And when he runs out, he leaves instead of fishing a different lure. There's probably close to 500 of his Rippin' Raps in this ~4 acre pond/lake now.
>am now beginning to wonder if he doesn't have OCD or autism or something.

I have worked at the other stores before (Sports Authority then Bass Pro then Gander briefly, then Dick's). I get the same story from the regular customers all the fucking time--"I'm glad you have X, I'm not willing to drive to [other store]" or "No, I don't care if [other store in chain 10 minutes away] has it, I'll order it online, not willing to drive that far". Same was true at all the previous stores--most of the regular customers are regulars because it's close to their house. Bass Pro wasn't as severe as it's already pretty far away from most housing areas, but still noticeable.

This may be a phenomenon of living in a major metro area (St. Louis), but I've seen it at every store I worked at and all of my coworkers have noticed it as well.
>>1021260
I'm sure that's part of it, he'll spend 30-40 minutes in there telling stories to any employee he can corner before asking about his Rippin' Raps.

Where do you usually fish and when? I usually hit up the Busch lakes but not in the summer. Too many live bait plebs

Normally county parks. Spent Sunday morning catching carp in Carondelet, spent all day Saturday *not* catching bass at Carondelet. I live at the southern tip of south county. I work retail so I'm sporadically available pretty much any time during the week, or any time on Monday (I don't ever work Mondays) assuming I'm not golfing.

Oh sweet I live in Affton. I haven't caught jack shit in Carondelet. I've heard Suson Park is good for bass. I also know a guy that lives on a stocked pond. All the bass are -3 lbs but they're fun with an ultralight and they're easy to get a bite from.

I'm a little booked this wkend but I will probably be able to do something next weekend or maybe in the afternoons during a weekday.

How do you catch carp btw?
>>
>>1021664
Sounds good.

Hit me up at [email protected], we'll figure something out.

The easy but not-as-productive way is bobber+split shot+#4 baitholder and commercially prepared carp bait, which is what I was using Saturday. The more productive method is basically a catfish slip-sinker rig with a #4-#1 circle hook packed with sweet corn, tightlined.

I've also caught them with a weighted bobber, no sinker, and orange peel hooked on a small (#8) plain-shank when they're busting on the top, or you could do similarly with a fly rod and no bobber.

Cool man, definitely will email you. I work flexible hours at the NGA so I should probably be able to work something out for next week; Monday after next at the latest.
>>

>I work at the NGA
how the fuck did you manage that? P. cool.
>>
>>1021664
Oh also, there are nice bass in Suson but it's so ridiculously heavily fished you need to really know what you're doing to get any interest from them.

It's also crowded af and the geese are assholes.

Can be great for mackerel l fishing on a pier in Florida.

Most effective way is to tie a hair rig and bait it with a floating boilie and fish it on a bottom slip sinker set up. Corn is often used as well.

Slightly less effective way is to set up any bottom rig and bait it with a boilie or corn.

You'll also occasionally hook one while targeting catfish. They'll eat gizzards and prepared baits occasionally.

Those ways in addition to snagging (big treble hook with a weight and pulling it over them to hook them in the back/sides) and bowfishing are the most popular ways of taking carp.

I've been bass fishing spinning reels the past 3 years, but just recently I bought an Abu Garcia baitcaster, and HOLY FUCK is this annoying. I get so much backlash, but I know it's my fault and not the reels. I said fuck it and put my breaking system and spool tension on maximum and slowly working down the settings till I'm getting decent casts without backlash. I also use a lot of minnow swimbaits, crankbaits, and spinners. Any advice guys?
>>
>>1021899
Also, should I use mono, braid, or fluro? I currently use 12lb Mono

spool out just enough to practice casting then put a piece of tape across the rest. that way it'll stop more from coming out so you only have to deal with a little bit of backlash while you figure it out. If it happens while you're on the water, just do a hail mary cast to pull all the backlashed shit out and then keep it tight while you reel in to clean it up.

besides that, just get better at using your thumb as a brake.

Someone pls gib me a retards guide on how to go catfishing in ontario, I'm on Georgian bay if that matters
>>
>>1021909
Imma try that, I've been using the thumb trick to get rid of backlash 75% of the time. Thanks for the advice.
>>
>>1021899
If you feel like it going up to a heavier mono can help. So will using heavier lures. You'll get it eventually. Focus on being smooth more than anything else.

Mono is much more forgiving than braid or flouro imo. Braid is easier to backlash, but it's super forgiving when you're undoing it. Half the time you can just yank on the line and pull out the nest.

Avoid flouro until you're comfortable.
>>
>>1021920
I throw a lot of semi heavy lures, if it's too light I'll just pop on a bullet weight or something

Ohh sheet, bread finally in the oven
