seeds are cheap, your biggest expense will be on land, equipment, structures, etc. I would suggest the book "back to basics" and similar books for a basic understanding, also refer to pic related, but pretty much just lurk on /out/ /k/ and any prepper shtf threads you find, they usually have good tips and infographs. that's about it, good luck anon
>>
>>1007829
You can't OP, get a job and buy a decent sized block of land semi-rural. Then you can start planting crops, getting chickens, solar etc. self-sustainability/ trying to ween yourself off services is a long process and you will make a lot of costly mistakes. You had better have some income to support yourself through the process or you're fucked.

Considering that this isn't >>>/biz/ and you didn't use the >>>/out/catalog I'm going to assume that what you want to do is far beyond your ability.
>>
The only way to do it is to apply for food stamps and you don't have to waste your 20K
>>
>>1007912

This. If homesteading was competitive with having a conventional job, lots of people would already be doing it.

Instead, homesteading is a luxury feeling of self sufficiency from people who have skills and expertise... and a reliable source of income.

So get a good job. Learn a trade like mechanic, plumber, welder, etc. Build up some income. Get a homestead friendly property. Slowly use your money to build up self sufficiency: grow a garden, produce your own power, raise chickens, etc.

You don't go cold turkey off the grid. You wean yourself off step by step. And you'll always need your source of income.

Not op, do you have a PDF of it or do I have to go to the local book store? Thank you even if you don't it's good info.

Homesteading is a hobby and a surrogate activity, nothing more
>>
>make 100k
>invest in Facebook and Google
>trim 25k once per year
>now own 264k worth of stock total
>still just trimming 25k
>mfw live on some land with solar panels and a creek and fucking high speed internet and propane tank for heating
>mfw have 35k of unspent cash fron 5 years of this in my basement
>been buying guns and other toys this whole time

I mean, I guess it's homesteading, I take care of animals and have a garden and tens the land but really I only do shit a couple days out of the week.

Just don't be financially illiterate.

Buy two shitty acres with nothing on them in the middle of nowhere for $5000, Build a few greenhouses for vegetables, and a tiny house for another few grand, some chicken coops, a few cows for milk, grow enough grain to feed chickens and cows, maybe an artificial above-ground fishpond, then invest the remaining couple grand in something because buying a well to guarantee a lifetime of water is like $20,000 by itself.

See this?

Buy this.

Good land. Log it. Farm it. Build greenhouses for extended growing season. Hunt game. Dig a well and you'll have groundwater easily. River is very close by. You can live forever in this place in a goddamned hole if you wanted to. You can build a shed and insulate it well for about 2,000.

Easy as fuck.

Everyone ITT is dumb.
>>
>>1008816
iirc they say the land is a flood plane but theres no law that says you can't build on a flood plane in Kentucky so all you have to do is dig a big enough hole to keep your land safe. Rent a machine for 4 or 5 hours and build a 12 foot dirt wall against the river. Then get $500 worth of concrete blocks and forget about it.
>>
>>1008818
Also, 5 minutes from walmart :^)
>>
>>1008812
lol, no.

You grow what you use the most of, and set aside a little space for some specialty crops like Adirondack Blue potatoes and Glass Gem corn, that sell for an outrageous price at farmers' markets, then buy the things that are cheaper to purchase than grow, like sugar and flour.

You can easily feed a family of four from what can be grown in a standard backyard if you know what you're doing.
>>
>>1008802
You don't buy a well dumbass, your property should either have a well or not have a well. Wells are also fairly cheap to set up and maintain depending on what you want, and most will outlast 3+ generations of family

>>
>>1007829
assuming you have land

>buy 30 hens for $20 each
>that leaves you with 19,400
>each hen lays am egg a day
>30 eggs per day
>an egg has 78 calories
>26 eggs is about 2000 calories.
>eat 26 eggs throw the other 4 at random houses
>after 5 years hens won't lay as many eggs so slaughter them
>buy another 30 hens
>repeat this process

assuming you are 20 and will live to be 100 that means you will need to slaughter and buy new hens about 16 times

$20,000 - 16 x 30 x $20 = $10,400

now if your anything like me you like to drink

a handle of Vlad costs 12 dollars so that means you can spend the rest of the money on vodka and purchase about 1500 liters of vodka. but assuming you drink a liter a week you will run out in about 29 years
>>
you can buy 40000 cans of green beans. that last you a long time.
