Man; I'm slowly wanting a Benelli 302 more and more.
I'm a sucker for Italian baikus.
I just wish they were available in my area second hand and green. I can't justify 6.5k upfront for a 300cc P-twin when i'd have to place an order and have no haggle room on that.

>>17845404
Some Models of yamahas are made in thailand, ktm in india, suzuki in spain, honda in taiwan;

I'll admit the 302 is made in chaina; it sources a bunch of nice parts other brands happily use and the larger bikes are put together in Italy; It's good enough for me my dude.
>>
So my motorcycle battery is dead, I had to uber home and leave it at work. How easy is it to jump start it? I'm afraid of damaging it. Is it as simple as jump starting a car? From what I've read you just hook it up and start like normal but you don't turn on the car, correct?

Because its a GS, it weighs half a ton. Also we tried for an hour but I've never done it before so I was shit at it and the ground is completely flat so it was a massive pain in the ass.
>>
>>17845446
you dont need to start the car but you can if you want to.

you usually just do that to guarantee the full voltage directly from the generator.
>>
>>17845446
I normally start the car and rev it a bit before jumping the bike. Making sure I got all the power, as that bike will need it if the battery is actually flat.

>>17845476
It weights a quarter of a ton and its not that hard to bump start. Done it before.

>I do slow down a bit, but with normal street tires you have enough grip to still lean quite a bit in the rain.

The actual question is how much water is on the ground.

If it's only just started raining, you won't have grip issues beyond the water sapping heat out of the bitumen. Once it picks up, you've got temperature issues and the problem of standing water.

Most street tyres will have sipes up to about 30 degrees of lean. Past that, up to the edge of the tyre, they're slicks. If there's enough water to act like a layer above the bitumen, and you don't have sipes to channel it, you will aquaplane.

Have a look at the tyres Rossi is running there. Rain tyres for the track have sipes right to the edges. The downside is that if you hit dry patches on those tyres, you'll burn them up quicksmart. I've wrecked a set of wets in 2 laps because the track was drying out. Good enough for slicks, but the rules ban us from running them on semi-dry tracks.

It's about having your own engineers and supervisors at the factory when you get shit built in China or Thailand.

Honda sends a whole department over to make sure Ts are crossed and is are dotted. Benelli is owned by a Chinese consortium, so no quality control at all. KTM sends shit to India for it to be done cheaply, so you get what you pay for.

I see them every now and then in Canada. Sometimes even a 125 which looks hilariously small compared to full sized sportbikes.

Do bikes in Europe cost more or something? 11k Euros is 16.1k CAD and you can get a brand new Tuono for less than 16k here (pic related). Even though it's a European bike in Canada.

A 2017 GSXR-600 is $11,299 here too; 7.7k Euros.

>What's the best kind of bike for all-weathers?
adventure bike with a windscreen or a faired sports touring bike. anything with good wind protection will help protect you from rain too.

> I'm kind of worried about going 60-70mph up the dual carriageway in the rain
dont. just be careful, wear wet weather gear and leave adequate braking zones. Dont split down between cars on the painted lines unless its slow moving traffic.

> How do you deal with rain on your helmet?
it beads off from the wind on your face. If you turn your hide side to side, you can get very effective removal of water droplets. Overall, not something to worry about.

as long as you have some riding experience, riding in the rain is really not that bad. Furthermore, its lowkey kinda comfy feels if you are properly protected from the weather
>>
>>17845850
The whole adventure-bikes-have-good-windprotection meme is old. You sit miles away from your windscreen. More noise, wind and turbulence than on a sportsbike.
>>
>>17845809

>>
>>17845839
>What's the best kind of bike for all-weathers.
One with good tires and ABS. A fairing and windscreen won't do as much as you think. What you want is slick gear that keeps you warm and dry, heated grips, and something for your seat to solve the water pooling issue. All weather bikes should also be outfitted with water-suitable grip tape on the pegs just because shit does get slippery, and you want some good boots so you won't slip and drop your bike when you stop and put a foot down. Also rain-X your helmet.

t. spent his first two months riding when it rained every other day on a VFR800 (vtak) with a really fucking tall aftermarket windscreen
>>
>>17845866
>One with good tires and ABS.

ABS is such over-rated shit. The no-frills ABS you get on standard bikes is terrible, to the point that I can outbrake it without trying.

Worse than that, it can interfere with effective braking. On the street triple I have found that with ABS off you get something like 30% extra braking force on the front with ABS off.

That's frankly dangerous.
>>
>>17845893
>Buying "standard" bikes
>Falling for the "not too much for duh streets" meme

If it's not a liter sportbike or a top of the line adventure bike, it's a budget model for poorfag transport and you're assumed to not be riding very hard anyways.

>you're assumed to not be riding very hard anyways.

That's not a good excuse to take away braking potential. If they gave you the same bike without ABS you'd stop quicker.

That is just a sales strategy with negative consequences. Look at how many newbies think ABS will make them safer - they're selling to that crowd and offering them a system that doesn't work as well as your own hand does.

As long as you do it safely, it's safer than sitting in the back and getting crushed by Stacy telling Chad about how totally mean her teacher is.

Lane splitting at low speeds is dangerous as fuck because people will try to do sudden lane changes in bumper to bumper traffic. It's actually safer to lane split on highways because if you're going faster than everyone else, you don't have to worry about cars coming up behind you as much.
>>
>>17846062
people who do that are breaking the law anyways. so are the tailgating faggots that force it. you're not allowed to nose over and occupy two lanes for an extended period of time. people are supposed to maintain proper following distances so lane changes can just happen.

you have a 10mph spillover and they're at fault (assuming it's legal to lane split). enjoy your new motorcycle.
>>
>>17846081
What country to you live in that bumper to bumper traffic doesn't happen and people leave multiple car lengths when crawling 0-5 mph? If you're splitting, you're automatically at fault unless you can prove they did it to block you on purpose, lane splitting is near the bottom when it comes to right of way, just like making a left turn where cross traffic doesn't have a stop.

EU here. That's one of my gripes about lane splitting and motorcycles in general around here. While some things are legal as in you wont get fined, in case of accident you'll almost guaranteed to get split blame or your fault.

Usually they'll get fine for illegal maneuver and you'll get fine for "choosing inadequate speed for
circumstances".

These threads more and more have become sportbike dickwagging for people who ride bicycles and like to pretend. The amount of "get a real bike" here is just plain stupid. People ride for different reasons and have different tastes but stopped bothering to post here because it's mostly people posting stock photos of bikes they don't own and shooting down people who dare to express their preference for a different experience.

So done with the sport bike circlejerk. Almost no discussion here about actually riding. Even people riding japanese standards with I4 engines get shat on here because not enough plastic.

I need some advice.

For medical reasons (eyesight) I'm not allowed by law to have a driver's license, which is why I'm trying to get a 50cc license (with restrictions). I feel it's enough for me to get around town, and I believe anything over that wouldn't be safe for me and more importantly, for others.

I would like some advice on what bike to get (I know next to nothing).
I would like it to be:
>Sportbike
>4 stroke
>Electronic start
>Digital speedometer
(As far as I know, there are no 50cc choppers, so I'm pretty much giving up on that idea)

I had my eyes on an Aprilia RS4 50. It looks really good, but it's only a 2 stroke.
I also had my eyes on a WK SP50. It's 4 stroke, but I dislike the look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(picture not related, it's just a bike I love)

rmx450z isnt road legal either anyway, its basically an rmz450 with a a few changes, 18 inch rear wheel, coolant reserve tank, softer suspension settings, a different inlet tract and different camshaft profiles for moar bottom end and mid range power though you can not interchange the head from an rmz450 engine onto an rmx450 engine because the cam chain tensioner is different on the rmx to make room for the electric start.

bikes are much easier to handle than cars. you don't need much of a sense of space to handle one, handling them up to the limits of grip is pretty intuitive once you understand how leans work, and if they go past the limits of grip you die.

On average, the number of americans and europeans in sample groups of the same size who couldn't save a highside or control an oversteering RWD car would be pretty much the same, even if they could all drive muh glorious manuel transmission. Euro driver training seems thorough from the surface but it's the same as ours, just with more pointless "this skill not applicable in life" cone weave tests and more focus on learning the rules. Integegrating traditional social functions with 4chan robs it of that purity of character as anonymously posting discorders begin to get paranoid that their friends might recognize them by their typing style and preferred topics. I see what you mean.
Unfortunately telelever is inherently heavy.
I'd grab a K1300 myself. They seem to be holding their market value since being discontinued

How so?

Valve trains explode. BMW wont fix the issue. Go read.
I dont understand why people like a bike and know NOTHING about it.
I hate the bike and still read up on it jist to see if BMW pulled their head out.of their ass.
>protip
They didn't

shocks, misc. electronics, and poorly assembled valvetrains

And BMW does not honor warranties on bikes that are tracked even though it's a fucking racebike

Odd question.
Is it possible to swap a bike's 2 stroke engine for a 4 stroke?

H7 bulbs in a good reflector are pretty good. LEDs aren't good for headlights. HID is best

Experiments.
Buying a 2 stroke I love and swapping its engine for one I prefer.
Just wondering if it's possible.

F series isn't even a real BMW and GS isn't a roadster.

it depends on the bike. in the case of bikes like this, they used almost exactly the same frame for the 2-stroke and 4-stroke models. They just had different engine mounting tabs. though some bikes probably have a frame designed to just fit a small 2-stroke so most 4-strokes wouldn't physically fit.

I see. Thank you.

The F series has always been BMW's shitty me-too bike for people who want to own a BMW bike either because they own a BMW car or can't afford a BMW car.
