Odd question.
Is it possible to swap a bike's 2 stroke engine for a 4 stroke?

I know it's a stupid idea for some. I just want to know if it is possible or not.

It depends on the bike and what you mean by possible, you can put a 1299 panigale engine in a grom, anything's possible, doesn't mean it will be easy or a good idea. You need to elaborate more if you want an actual answer.

I thought the same thing when I heard it, I noticed in all the press mumbo jumbo they mentioned something about a different firing order than traditional V4s so that's probably why. I also noticed it was going to be an 1100, so what's the point of it if it sounds like shit, can't compete in WSBK, and isn't any more powerful than their old 1200 twins?

>>
>>17848674
Should go fine assuming you get a similar sized(<200cc single) engine, but why the hell would you want to?
>>
how bad were you guys on your first day riding? just completed my CBT (compulsory basic training) and now im road legal for a 125cc but on the training day I had 1 near crash and locked up my back wheel on a duel carriageway and skidded along for a bit. It's thrown me a bit and im unsure whether motorbikes are for me
>>
>>17848689
50cc is all I can have, sadly. Might as well try and make it sound half decent.
>>
>>17848685
yep. as long as there aren't steep hills or big logs and rocks a street bike can go most places a dirt bike can, only much slower.
>>
>>17848701
4-strokes generally make much less power per displacement than 2-strokes, so you will lose a lot of power by swapping it.

My first day riding I was on a 50cc Honda mini trail that my dad hadn't taught me how to shift out of first gear, I hit my sandbox and launched myself over the handle bars, then drove it into a small creek by my house.

>>17848701
That's retarded, a 50cc 4 stroke will sound much worse and have so little power it can't get out of it's own way. Stick to the two stroke.
>>
>>17848692
Had some sketchy things happen during training. The first day or two was alright but a little sketchy. After that I got used to the bike. Take it to a parking lot and practice maneuvering it to get a feel for your bike

>The first day or two was alright but a little sketchy
first day or two of training? for us it's just one day of training then you can get on the road. I'd like to get used to maneuvering it a bit more but by far my biggest issue was shifting down gears (this was when i near skidded out) so I need a decent stretch of empty road to properly practice

Anon I doubt you're going to listen to this because you sound like you're just looking for an echo chamber, but don't do it, you will waste a ton of time an money and end up with a worse bike, if you want a worse bike just sell yours and buy one.
>>
>>17848729
50cc four stroke is like a lawnmower engine lmao
two stroke engines by definition are more efficient than 4 strokes, don't replace your engine with something even worse

to if you spend X on adverts you need to increase your sales by at least X+1. This will not happen with a tv advert for motorbikes.

Real talk, Ninja 300 if you want something smol, or get a 650 twin. Those are your two best bets. 650 twins make less power than 600 4 cylinders, but make more torque so it's more linear and you don't have to rev the piss out of it. There's also the Honda CBR500 which is nice, about the same power as a 300 but slightly more, and more torquier. They look cool too.

>Ninja 300
>SV650
>Ninja 650

All of these can be had for cheap used on craigslist and will serve you well. Take the MSF if you can, try not to die. Remember that drivers are retarded and can't see you. Seriously, I know everyone says that and it's kind of a cliche meme but it's very true. People will try and merge into you.

If you want to start on a 600 or 1000, you shouldn't. Im not your dad tho, do what you want. It's just fucking dumb. I watched a dude with no license flip his 1000cc bike last week and almost die, so basically don't be that guy.

Honda 500 twin. Comes in four flavors, gets 80+mpg, powerful enough for anything street legal, wheelies, easy to work on, replacement parts for the rest of your natural life, and 100k mile engine.

The CB500F can be found as low as 3500 USD at dealership. CBR500R has aftermarket to make it an actual sportbike position if you want to practice gofas. CB500X has access to the rally raid kit, making it one of the best light ADV bikes on the market. Rebel 500 has high pegs and a growing aftermarket for customization.
But you'll get dirty looks from people who ride discontinued Suzukis. Boohoo.

Pleb taste right there.
The firing order used is what they call twin pulse. It is just like 2 L twin engines firing with 70 degrees interval among each other. Ducati has been using this in motogp for years.
Also, it makes 210hp, much more than the superquadro.
>>

What you need is a properly made exhaust, to make the correct ding - ding 2 stroke sound. Gialelli or Pollini
>>
I bought an R1 today and, like a pleb, didn't check to see if the signals work. Spoiler:
they don't
. I think it's supposed to be an integrated taillight and flush mount side signals. How hard is it to track down and fix?

Took a fucking rip today on my Austrian made KTM 500 exc.
I was swerving in and out of traffic with no concern whatsoever for public safety, when I saw a group of anime loving sport tourers.
A couple had weeb decals on their bikes. Anyway. I rode with them for a couple miles till I got bored of going 10 under the limit. I started my downshifting, preparing for this massive onslaught that was about to occur.
Bang. Pop. Furious left lane boost.
Schip, schip, Shoosh. Passed the anime fags. As I passed the leader I noticed a decal on his tank. It read "/dbt"
This was the OP. I brake check the entire pansy brigade to a slow roll.
Than dismounted and let my ktm ghost into a tree. I bent that faggot over his weebshit bike and fucked him as he cried out "no, in gonna miss the shout like goku at the hurricane event, HELP!"
After I finished I pushed his bike over and he thanked me for it.
I picked up my Austrian Oak power and zipped into the treeline like a phantom.

Most of the people I did my course with had ridden dirt bikes or scooters before (me included), but even the one guy that had never touched a motorbike before did okay.

His only issue was that every time he made a right hand turn onto a different street (Australian), he would swing to the far left of the lane instead of waiting on the right side of the lane. Looked pretty stupid.

Rode the FZ-07 at demo day, I loved it. I'd need more time to get used to the riding position and handling but damn is that a step up from the DR350 I've been riding. Torque everywhere. The shifter lever felt too short though, it was hard to stick my boot under it and I was just wearing hiking boots. And I'd definitely replace the clutch lever. Both levers felt like a bit of a stretch to reach desu. Riding in tucked position felt really good too, I was able to whack open the throttle a few times. The exhaust sound is perfect on this bike too. Stock is quiet but still has a growly tone.

I also sat on an R6 in the showroom, I've never sat on a sportbike before but I never realized how wide they actually are. The wonky ass riding position really threw me off, that'd take a while to get used to. Still want to test ride one though, I'm sure it's fun.

The price of customization builds up fast and you might want to know or be a good machinist to do things like relocate the stock speedo or get things to fit at all. A friend of a friend of mine converted his FZ1 into a naked bike. It ran him about $400, using bolt on parts from yamaha and a new speedo bracket his dad made for him for free.

I tried a Cyclops LED bulb in a couple different housings. It would be OK if I was riding through the woods slowly at night so I could see whats right in front of me, but on the road it just isn't acceptable. Invest in footpegs that have the thing sticking out at the bottom. You can see it in pic related. Newer bikes come with them stock like the R3. Along with the innovation of upward folding footpegs, pegs are pretty savvy nowadays. I once rode a bike with a downwards bent damaged peg at the MSF and it made the bike virtually unrideable.

very very very shit if you ever want to ride at night. Its merely an item to fulfill road registration.

When I bought my drz second hand it came with one, and whilst it did look nice, using the bike at night anywhere except well lit roads wasn't ideal.

I upgraded by moving back to the stock headlight, but swapped the (suprisingly heavy) glass and halogen headlight for an LED truck driving light (just ebay 6"x4" Cree LED Light)

This is much better than the stock DRZ headlight, however its a point beam rather than a scatter beam so overall its not perfect. doesnt have exceptional range or power but it does the job better than the stock lights.

just make sure you angle it correctly otherwise youre blinding oncoming traffic. I have mine set up properly and in the past 6 months ive been flashed maybe twice. I run it on high beam all the time too.

The race ones don't come with lights, reflectors, starter motors, mirrors, turn signals, fenders, etc

there's actually zero reason for sportbikes to be full on repli-racer because racing series rules let you change little things like rearsets and bar height, lights, etc for track safety and specific riders. they could all be sold with sport-tourer ergonomics and fuckhuge bucket lights and still be legal for sporting use in a sporting configuration.

>>17850508
Everyone else who does this just puts a hole in the front fairing and uses a headlight assembly to fill some of the empty space inside of it. Track prepping it is as simple as patching the hole and removing the 10lb headlight assembly.

Yamaha pretty much designed the front fairing to have headlights.

Ride behind somebody who has a good pace and follow them. You'll know you can lean that far because you just saw him do it, so all you have to do is keep the throttle steady, push on the bar, and try to kiss the mirror.

Also better tires would help, those are good for rain and mileage but not very confidence inspiring.

So I just found out I can't keep my FZ in California since I moved here and the bike has low mileage. I can't register it in this state so I have to sell it out of state.

>>
>>17850706
The Scout is one of the only cruisers I would ever consider buying, dunno how I feel about the headlight on the Bobber version though.

The CA bullshit law is 7,500 miles right? Just go on a road trip or install an aftermarket speedo for 10 minutes.
>>
>>17850706
Which FZ, where do you live and how much?
I'm actually moving to CA in a few weeks (only a year unless I find a job there), thinking about buying something after my stint.
>>
>>17850715
What did you mean by /are guys/?

>>17850720
The Scout has been on my radar for a bike upgrade for quite some time now, but I could never 100% get behind the aesthetic of the base Scout. When I saw the Bobber reveal I instantly fell in love with the design. What is it about the headlight you don't like?

Yes the CA law is 7,500 miles, and I am way under that. I can't really go on a road trip on the FZ-07 because my ass really starts to hurt after an hour, and my legs start feeling pretty cramped. I'm 6' tall and about 215 lbs, so the FZ-07 is a pretty small bike for me. I've actually wanted to upgrade anyway, but this CA law is accelerating my timetable.

Boots yes, pants maybe.

I don't into cruiser, but I made sure to get a jacket, helmet, and boots before any serious riding. I am in the market for a better jacket and probably pants of some sort.

The common phrase is "dress for the slide, not the ride" so cover whatever you don't want road rash on.
>>
>>17850800
Some people will swear ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time), but I personally don't see the need for motorcycle specific pants unless you're doing some higher risk riding.

That said, I do strongly suggest motorcycle boots, gloves, full face helmet, and some sort of good jacket. It is important to get motorcycle-specific gear instead of, say, work boots for example.

Motorcycle gear can get expensive really fast, but you don't need to pay a lot of money for basic proper protection.

I don't know the headlight just looks like it's kind of trying too hard. I'm a fan of the classic bucket. I'm not a fan of cruisers but I think the aesthetic design of the Scout is on point, and the fact that it has better specs than the equivalent Harley in every way sells it.
>>
>>17850811
I think they look pretty good, but as always, aesthetics are completely subjective. I also really like the look of blacked out bikes that don't have a lot of bright colors, while others love bright neon eye-catching colors that pop.
>>
>>17850810
>but I personally don't see the need for motorcycle specific pants unless you're doing some higher risk riding.

Hip and knee protection is a must have.
>>
>>17850804
Why? That was a perfectly controlled wheelie.

People riding within their abilities is fine, some peoples abilities are greater than others.
>>
>>17850829
Okay grandpa.

I do agree that hip and knee protection is a very good idea, but I also think it's not always needed. Yeah if you get in a crash even at low speeds you could break a knee or something, but the chances are pretty poor to warrant the need to wear motorcycle specific pants every day of your life. Makes working in an office job rather difficult since you need to wear slacks or some other nice looking bullshit.

If he went through insurance they have some dumb stipulations about making the bike good as new. So, a big scratch down an anodized frame might not compromise the bike and it might still pass track safety, but insurance would total it out because they'd ask the shop for a new frame and get a bill for ten grand in labor alone.
