The racing itself is really good. The AI is great, the physics are really great for its time and there's a extensive damage model, including multiple different mechanical failures
The problem is that it's a pain to get running nowadays. There can be lots of graphical and sound glitches and mapping the controls is a real pain. And the UI/Menu structure is questionable at best.

If you do wanna play it, I suggest getting the GPxPatch. It does fix some of these problems making your life a lot easier and adds some features to make the gameplay better (like being able to change pitstop options outside of the pits)

I don't think horizon was ever supposed to be a sim, more like a fun arcade with car related stuff to do. It's just that if you don't play with 8 friends in a lobby you're inevitably going to get one of the "I'M THE BEST NIGGAAAAA I BEAT YOU AT EVERYTHINGGGG" kids driving a super car that quits every race they start.

It's fun enough offline just for the sheer amount of crap in the game, I'll just wait for the dlc to be on sale and play the online portions with my friends. It's god tier as far as playing on a big, curved monitor with a wheel and pedal setup goes imo. Nice to relax from harder racing games

Karts are fine, handling might not be same as in real 125cc twostroke kart (hell if i know, i only played around with consumer tier four stroke sodi), but it has all of those handling characteristics that kart should have. I mean, it's just my opinion, and i never driven on track large enough to reach 100kmph, but after a while of getting used to it karts really feel like they should.

Also, i love how driving on cold tyres feels exactly like i felt in real karting. This soft, floaty, kinda wobbly feeling.

its really nothing like a 125cc kart, or any kind of serious racing kart for that matter. the fronts arent even close to being grippy enough for one. it should be snapping in whatever direction you turn the wheel, even in a straight line, but instead these just act like a tiny GT car more than a go kart. it even has a really odd setup page like being able to change the rear wheel camber and brake bias yet missing important things like torsion bars, toe, seat stays and caster angles (though i would blame the last two on AC just plain not having the ability to change things such as that)

and just to top it all off the engine model is a yamaha KT100 (placed backwards), which is a 100cc engine.

I've been paying attention and alot of the music really was "good vibe" summer music that felt very indie'ish like you'd hear on GTA 5's Radio Mirror Park,

Of course there was "party" music like DnB and Dubstep, but there was ALOT of indie electronica and indie music in general, which made you feel very cozy and hopeful for once in your miserable fucking life, and made you feel nostalgic about life in general, which i always find most indie music usually does for some strange reason.

the +1:30 penalty is both too short to be a realistic time loss for fixing a puncture; and too long to be worth doing - there's not a stage long enough for it, it's better to just limp to the finish at a slower pace.

Rally 2000 had a stupid "mini-game" for replacing tires, but at least you had some interrupting process where you even had some input. the time loss was a more realistic 3+ minutes (much longer if you fucked up with the wheel of fortune), and was actually viable as well with the 20+ minute stages

In all honesty, I think Horizon 2 is based. I will not argue that Horizon 1 had a better career and vibe to it, but I think what's held me back is that some of the most basic cars the game had to offer were DLC. Cars like the 370Z, the 458 Italia, the fucking Golf, the SLS and the Impreza, cars that are now standard in Forza, were all DLC, and now that the game is officially dead, there's no way to buy them anymore. Horizon 2 had an absolute fucking top tier map that was practically made to fuck around in with a supercar, the FnF expansion was pretty fun, there was Porsche this time around even if it was another expansion, and it still had the festival vibe to it, considering you had no say in how events were set up regardless of what car you drove. Rather than pull up to an event and choose what cars to race on the particular track, you would choose your car, and then the game would tell you what events you could do in that area. Not nearly as good as Horizon 1's class restricted events, but it still encouraged you to try different cars. The thing that I think Horizon 3 did so wrong was making you the boss of the festival rather than an attendee who knew the boss well. Seeing how you could pretty much bend the entire world to your will, it took most of the sense of achievement out of it.

It's just my opinion, but I still think Horizon 2 is the best game, even if Horizon 1 does some things better.

g27 has it all. seriously, unless you really want to spend some money (which is understandable, nothing feels better than spending money), g27 is good enough. brake pedal might need a little bit of modding to get this progressive resistance, but in the end it gives you enough control to actually play the game like you should.

i stopped locking brakes immediately after i switched from dfgt to g27. i had sponge squeezed in dfgt brake pedal, but it wasn't really solving the problem like g27 pedalboard did.

yes, but to make sure it'll be pleasurable experience you also need to be good. usually top times from quali are good players, so you either get a good time and compete against them or roll d20 for luck and pray you'll get to play against people who know basic rules of racing. minorating kicks obvious trolls, you can still find them from time to time but i'd say it generally does its job properly. also, you always need to be extra careful on first corners and even let others pass you if needed, they'll crash five seconds later anyway.

i had lots of fun playing on random public minorating servers. sometimes quality of racing is seriously better than in iracing, mostly because players get less enraged
