it uses tridef + the rf1rift plugin. it's fully working in that it's rendered in 3D and responds to head tracking and stuff. but it still renders the UI in 2D so some things appear off screen and it's difficult to use. it was also a bitch to get working in the first place

IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING ARC
Funny brazilian cunts decided to push an update on a saturday which coaxed me into a snafu. I've chosen not to update the server, and keep it on version 1.4.54, which is the version of all the special snowflake editions I've made.

If you have the Steam version, you can either choose to download the lite copy and use it or you can use the Betas tab to revert back to 1.4.54. Just right click on the game in Steam, go to properties, betas tab and select 1.4.54 in the drop down.

I'll look into updating everything in the upcoming week and upload new lite copies.

There's a level of self-imposed challenge to playing any GT game. Most of them allow you to play with gratuitously OP cars in many events. I imagine it is intended, so that shitters can have the satisfaction of completing the game. The nice thing about GT4 is that it acknowledges when you take a slower car by rewarding you with more 'A-spec points'. If you want a challenge you should try to maximise those - the most you can get from a race is 200.

Which game has the most realistic manual transmission physics/logic? With an old version of rFactor 2 the cars don't lunge forward if you change gears at the wrong times, transmission doesn't grind etc. Should I update to the newest build? Did they change that?

I only have a keyboard so it'd be cool if the game allowed binding the clutch to the keyboard.

It's just called V-Rally in the developed world. At the time it was really great, I absolutely enjoyed the track editor in V-Rally 2. But it has aged worse than Colin McRae.

Even if you're good at racing games, to git gud at DiRT rally or sim mode DiRT 4 you have to drive really really slow, like you will feel like you can go way faster but you have to be patient and start by taking every single part of the stage easy, then working your way up, start to take more speed down the straights, then take more speed through the corners, take more slip angle, brake later, drive harder cars. Once you've gotten gud, THEN you can drive Group B.

Several dozen hours later, you'll be ready to try Pikes Peak. That shit's actually really hard and took me more than 100 hours in Rally to be competent at. I had 200 by the time I moved on to greener pastures, and I was only then really able to crank out consistent sub-9:00 runs.

Otherwise, Forza Horizon will be a great way to get into just driving. Learn vehicle dynamics, get smooth, get the feeling of how different cars work, learn how to handle over/understeer, then get ready to learn it all again every time you play a different game.
