At this rate of less than 1 post per hour, absolutely, but this general is only as dead as it is because of all of the stubborn bastards who've helped contribute to the overstayed welcome of this general on this board.

There are simply not enough people being introduced into the general. There ARE racing game fans on 4chan, they exist, but they aren't finding this general because it's located on probably one of the slowest boards.

why is there a random WRC podium thing in the middle of the track?
>>
>>17780471
i don't think track modder cared much about surroundings. i mean, i don't think it would be easy to leave those tents when there is a tyre wall from both sides

That being said, track itself is totally fine - although maybe some bumps on the track would calm my autism a bit more, there is only one irregularity through entire track and i think it was more of a bug than modder's conscious decision. When i tried to git gud in real karts, learning about bad spots on the track was nice. It felt real (no wonder since it was real), like something you rarely experience in sim mods unless it's laser scan.

what makes you think an engine cant have an exhaust in the front
>>
>>17780670
holy shit

>>17780674
i think you can't have air filter that goes directly to engine. i mean, you can, but carburetors are super useful and improve engine performance massively - at least compared to not using any fuel delivery system at all

physics resemble gokarts, so i guess that's fine.

>>17780674
Seems like every single person using that engine says you can't.
>>
>>17780674
you can, but having the intake there would make the engine benefit from linear flow and air ramming at higher speeds
>>
>>17780776
No real effect at the speeds gokarts can reach.

However, putting it in a location where it's subject to a lower pressure due to airflow disruption will have a negative impact on performance.
>>
uuuuuuuuuh why is no one posting in this thread constantly about dumb shit?

we should move to /vg/ so we have to constantly deal with continuous irreverent shitposting instead of merely letting the thread go occasionally off-topic while discussing car video games.

It's just an improvement on the SRW-S1, mine has cracked and is not useable anymore, so I'm going to try and print a replacement casing for it. It was never really meant to take the torque of a G25 since it's just a wii tier motion control device, but it has a lot of buttons which is useful as fuck

If it doesn't work after a couple of tried I'm just going to buy a G29
>>
>>17780960
exactly, I'd definitely try to adapt this on a G27 to give it more wheel buttons
>>
>>17780966
If it works I'll send you an .stl or .step with the spacing of the G27 wheel, the screws for the wheel are not spaced the same on the G25 and G27 - so I'll need that measurement from you
>>
>>17780791

I can't remember which tracks are associated with the different letters, but I hate the section with the incredibly steep climb, followed by the incredibly steep descent with only some sturdy tape preventing you from sliding off into the abyss. All of PD's original tracks since GT4 have been contaminated with similar bullshit to a greater or lesser degree.

I'm really struggling to think of a PD original track from the PS3 era that I really like overall. At least the length of CdlS mitigates the effect of the silly jumps a bit.

this thread does not need a constant influx of new people because that would be annoying for someone, maybe multiple people to constantly try remaking the thread every few hours. It works well on /o/ because it's slow and the general can hang around for several days and people don't have to worry about it. /vg/ is terrible.

there is literally nothing stopping any random poster on 4chan from clicking on /o/ and finding this thread, I don't see why a thread should market itself to people in the way you suggest.

lmao is that what you honestly think would happen? it moves over to /vg/ and becomes a general that gets multiple threads per day and it would suddenly become too much of a hassle?

this thread needs more people because it's incredibly slow and isolated. and no, someone interested in racing video games isn't going to go to /o/, they're going to go to /vg/ or /v/.

and once again, it never fails to amuse me when one of you faggots deludes themselves into thinking this place isn't as shitty as all the other shitty generals on /vg/. it's literally identical to them but without the luxury of visibility.

just admit it, you like you're little secret club, international shit stain.
>>
>>17784694
>this thread does not need a constant influx of new people
i think that would be cool. having lively races full of people (even if terrible drivers) sounds nice. circlejerkers are circlejerking at their own pace in their own ways of communication, meanwhile thread always looks like it's dying. newbies would probably get all excited and talk about races, ways to git gud, other things

just to be clear, i'm not arguing about those /vg/ quarrels, i couldn't care less about it. just wanted to point out that having lots of new players really sounds nice, even if pro ovg turbo fast elite wouldn't gain anything from it

exactly. literally no one should be against having new players being introduced to this thread unless they love the circlejerk, which some people definitely do. look where it gets them though, this general is so incredibly, and needlessly, slow/dead at times.

when Forza 7 releases, there will definitely be an attempt to make a /vg/ general by people who aren't aware of /ovg/'s existence, so it might actually be a good time to get something going.

>>
>>17784781
how so? just filter obvious faggots, and you're left with people who can't drive, but are smart enough to obey rules - then there is no problem

anyway, being on internet for a good while now, i've seen death many of internet forums i enjoyed. every time forum died, it was all about oldfags being rude and chasing out newfags, then suddenly realizing they're alone in their six person online community. this is precisely what you're trying to do, through not taking any actions to invite new players into community and just wishing that "fitting" people will randomly stumble upon this place.

You're just trying to set up some retarded shitposting loop where you tell people to post somewhere else, then meet them at the other board with more shitposting to go back to where they came from. I know how this shit works motherfucker I've spent 12 summers here.
I like how you seem to gauge thread success by how fast it gets to its bump limit or resists falling off the listing rather than by a subjective metric like the quality of the posting inside it. You are a complete fucking moron.

>Higher thread traffic DOES NOT correlate to higher race participation.
lower thread traffic surely reduces chances of high race participation. you can't encourage people to play sims without people to encourage.

also, more alive threads are surely more interesting for an outsider. if you consider every "new" person as object with certain probability of participation, it's obviously more probable to have a lot of people in race if a lot of new people starts browsing thread.
>>
There are 54 individual posters here, then why is only 10-15 people regularily racing?
>>

Higher traffic means higher exposure means that people will see it, and even if people do not want participate now, a: they might do later, b: they can talk about other racing vidya and still contribute to a healthy discussion, and c: they could direct more people here who are interested in racing vidya.

And this isnt the dota or the katawa shoujo general old man. The bump limit is higher so you will get your comfy 2 day thread, at least.

>>

>>17785367
yeah, since it's possible to do it with cardboard, and i guess samsung gear is glorified cardboard. you probably won't be able to use gear vr external tracking enchancements, but since riftcat is opentrack-friendly, you can easily get 6dof tracking for your pretended rift. calibrating it is a hassle though, and you can only move your head as far as your opentrack camera sees you.
>>
>>17785358
I got riftcat but I can only really choose either old Oculus SDK, or SteamVR (obviously if pirated then it can't be) or RiftCat's own games.

How do you get it to work?
>>
>>17784795
>just filter obvious faggots
Filter them with what? Now the servers need actively updated banlists and dedicated live stewards. That's anti-fun. The low traffic makes it easier to manage and evaluate new racers individually.

>anyway, being on internet for a good while now, i've seen death many of internet forums i enjoyed. every time forum died, it was all about oldfags being rude and chasing out newfags

That isn't at all what is happening and I demand you provide proof of the existence of people who have come to this thread to race and been turned away by some ignorant shitposting. So far the argument to move to /vg/ hinges on the idea that the low traffic of the thread encourages rude, insular behavior, but I just do not see it, except when someone randomly complains about the "mumble circlejerk" as if a handful of posters communicating through VOIP was some kind of secret cabal dedicated to annoying people over the Internet.

>through not taking any actions to invite new players into community and just wishing that "fitting" people will randomly stumble upon this place.
This isn't a secret club you stupid motherfucker, there is no need to invite or advertise. People who want to post here will find it or be directed here.

>>17784747
general is so incredibly, and needlessly, slow/dead at times.
A thread does not need to have people constantly posting in it, it's a fuckin' image BBS not a live chat you dumb fucking idiot.

>when Forza 7 releases, there will definitely be an attempt to make a /vg/ general by people who aren't aware of /ovg/'s existence, so it might actually be a good time to get something going.

Good, then you will find out how fucking difficult it is to keep a racing game thread alive outside /o/ and why the last Forza General was here.

>>
>>17785376

Protip: this is just the circlejerk being ironic
>>
>>17785374
>SteamVR (obviously if pirated then it can't be)
Shit, haven't realized that. Well, that leaves second solution. It requires tridef3d for side-by-side 3d rendering (webum related), opentrack for tracking and something for streaming image on your smartphone. But i don't know if it's worth the hassle, lack of geometry corrections makes it look kinda crappy, and opentrack tracking has a bit of lag, so it doesn't really feel as good as real rift. More of a toy than real way to play the game.

>>17785379
Image has super small lag (<20ms through usb), but tracking feels sluggish. Acceptable to make your friends go "wow vr", unacceptable for five hour long vidya session.
>>
>>17785394
Honestly, I just want it as an alternative to having multiple monitors. I'm okay with no tracking, I just want to be able to look around the car. Doesn't even have to be 3d.
>>
>>17785406
then consider getting opentrack alone and using it with your current display.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJOlq3FCCTg

after a while, moving your eyes to counter your head movement becomes less and less of a problem.
>>
>>17785415
I know, but I only have a single monitor so it probably wouldn't be that great.

Goddamnit I wish VR wasn't THAT expensive. I still can't believe there isn't a Xiaomi or whatever other chinese cheap alternative to it.
>>
>>17785425
prices have come down a lot tho
>>
>>17785432
not to mention that chinks produce loads of knockoffs ("dk1-compatible"). another popular way to do it is getting smartphone display with hdmi driver (again, aliexpress) and building your own "vr" over it, without display lag. knockoffs are worthless though, no external tracking = dk1-tier = shit

except even those displays with drivers costs ~$150.

That I didn't know honestly. Is it any decent? How are the latencies? It's probably sub 1080p though.

My technical skills aren't good enough to make something like that unfortunately. Display is one thing but I'd need a gyroscope or something and that could be an issue.
>>
>>17785376
Why do you think everything will suddenly go bad if the thread moves? Your arrogance makes you sound like james, assuming stuff and thinking the end the world will come if a thread on tajikistani hat weaving site will move a bit. Big fucking deal. If you want something to succeed, it can happen by trying a bit.

Sure, your kind will shitpost and try to move it back to o, but no one will give a fuck after a while. This isnt fucking rocket science.

Oh and speaking people getting driven out, most organisers got shit on, and never bothered to try something again because of constant shitpost, others decided its not worth the hassle to and moved to rd and reddit leagues, or ones by independent forums, or even fucking iRacing. People decided to pay 9.99 per month plus several more for cars and tracks, to play nr03 with a bodykit, instead of participating in leagues that they had to pay ZERO bucks to participate, just because a handful of people could not keep their autism in check, and despite you saying everything is fun and chill, people in the og ovgt3 league would get pissy and throw a tantrum after the slightest tap, like tryhard motherfuckers they were.

These /vg/ posters really show how new they are. /ovg/ has always been about the people who browse /o/ who also play driving and racing vidya. If there was no general here it'd go back to how it was before where there were threads about individual games and the small groups that play them (you still occasionally get this today when a new /o/-type game gets popular).

If you really want to go start a thread on /vg/ feel free, but it's not really going to be /ovg/ in anything but name.

>bought a G29
>wanted to discuss about wheels on 4chan
>had forgotten about /ovg/
Welp...

Questions:
Do you guys drive IRL? If so, how realistic do you consider your wheel?

It's been almost 1 week since I bought the G29 and I am still not enjoying it. This is my first wheel ever and I expected more from it. It feels nothing like any real car (I've driven cars with no power steering, with hydraulic ones and with electric ones).
I'm almost returning it (tomorrow is the last day for it).
What can I do to enjoy it?
>>
>>17785376
>A thread does not need to have people constantly posting in it, it's a fuckin' image BBS not a live chat you dumb fucking idiot.

God, you faggots love your secret club so much, don't you? There is literally no reason to be so opposed to having a more active and visible place for discussion unless that is something you're specifically against.

I don't think anyone is operating under the delusion that /ovg/ would become some booming board on /vg/, but it would at least be in a better place to attract new members, which, again, is a good thing unless you specifically don't want to do that.

>Good, then you will find out how fucking difficult it is to keep a racing game thread alive outside /o/ and why the last Forza General was here.

Because making specific game threads is moronic in the first place, I'm talking after the hype dies down, it could easily be converted into a racing general.

>>17785867
I've been here for years, and this move to /vg/ isn't something new. It's just logical but secret club faggots like their secret club and despise growth. No one wants to move to /vg/ for their own benefit, it's because we like the genre and would like this to be the best possible place to discuss and play them but secret club faggots hold it back.

>If there was no general here it'd go back to how it was before where there were threads about individual games

Who says it needs to be that way? It would be an all encompassing general, like a lot of generals on /vg/.

>>17785916
The people who somehow think this is a better place to discuss video games, or that this general isn't just as shitty, even shittier, than the average /vg/ thread are the best.

>>17785960

>>
>>17786004
A sim is anything that tries to simulate (parts of) reality as realistically as possible.
So yes, rF1 is a sim, but not a good one compared to newer.

>>17785997

>>17786004
not anymore
>>
>>17786006
what games are you using it in, ffb depends on the game not the wheel
>>
>>17786006
you don't really feel vidya like in reality. various sims are trying to signal getting to the edge of traction/losing it/whatever else in different ways, you just drive in sim until you learn it.

play more, stop hoping for realism, at some point you'll just start understanding it.
>>
>>17786019
>not anymore

>>
>>17786020
BTW, I have Assetto Corsa, pCars, beamNG, ETS 2 and more on PC. But I've only tried AC and beamNG so far.

>>17786023
>stop hoping for realism
What's the point, then? I thought people bought wheels for realism.
>>
>>17786041
different kind of realism. with wheel, you get information through ffb, you know how much exactly can you turn, how bad road below your wheels is, shit like that. ffb gives you what real wheel would, it just sometimes deliver it differently.

also, ac and iracing have rather realistic force feedbacks, i'd say it mostly passes as "different car you never drove" after proper ffb option setup. maybe except fact that ac just turns off ffb motors when front loses traction, but i guess that's their way to tell player he lost it - and it works
>>
>>17786009
>>If there was no general here it'd go back to how it was before where there were threads about individual games
>
>Who says it needs to be that way? It would be an all encompassing general, like a lot of generals on /vg/.

You completely miss my point. Even with a thread on /vg/ people on /o/ would still create and post in /o/ based game threads here.

You also seem fixated on new people finding the thread. I see new people here all the time, both in the thread and mumble, so I'm not even sure why you're pushing that angle so hard. Maybe you should just join in more instead of needlessly shitposting.
>>
>>17786059
The biggest problem that I've found is how heavy it is to steer. Real cars aren't like that at all.
Which wheel do you have and what are your AC ffb settings?

I've already read the "This is how ffb works" thread on reddit, btw.
>>
>>17786009
sperg more
>>
>>17786140
Real cars often have power steering set up for normal driving on public roads, at or around the speed limit. Under such conditions, sacrificing precision and speed for ease of turning the wheel.

Race cars in turn need to be set for quick and precise steering movements. For that purpose, the steering is set up with a shorter travel (which naturally makes it more stiff) and less "dead zone" as you change direction.
>>
>>17786156
I still drive a car with no power steering, though. It is not heavy at all, unless you're stopped.
>>
>>17786140
i use g27, first "g27 settings" i've got and ffbclip plug-in. i guess ffbclip would solve your "how heavy it is to steer" problem, especially if you drove car without power steering and you still think your wheel turns too heavy.
>>
>>17786196
and two more things: first, check if you have centering spring enabled in driver, disable it if needed. and second thing, keep in mind that you use super small wheel. you couldn't easily turn your wheel in real car if it would be 27cm in diameter

I'm not really sure that's as big of an issue as you think it might be. /o/ is an incredibly slow board and anyone looking to discuss racing video games is 10 times more likely to just go to /v/ or /vg/.

And growth should be the goal of all generals. This place is dead most of the time, so I'm not sure who you're trying to fool when it comes to new members joining up. This place is stagnant most of the time.

>>17786141

>>
>>17786262

>>
>>17786275
And this is why accusing some of you of loving your secret little club is valid.

Growth means more discussion, more activity, larger events, more options. It's not like moving to /vg/ would saturate this general, but it would certainly bring in more prospects there than it is here.

There aren't any valid arguments against growth unless you want a small an exclusive place to talk about your pretend race cars, which makes you a cunt.
>>
>>17786286
Stay mad you're not in the secret club.
>>
>>17786296
lmao... trust me, no one is upset that they aren't apart of your international circle jerk, I just think this place would be much more active if it weren't located in such a bad place.

at the end of the day, those who advocate a stagnant and exclusive general are just ensuring the continued snail pace of this general. I don't NEED to come to this general, there are better places with better people out there, but do enjoy 4chan so it would be nice to see this place grow. it's just a shame there are a select few of you who love swapping cum with between yourselves.

This is retarded and I showed that even with a common phrase you're still wrong
>>
>>17786788
you're moving goalposts
not any combination, but the specific bullshit you made up: "60 into"
see >>17786439
>>WRC co-drives say it like that
Go ahead, fuckface, name the co-drivers that "say it like that". If you have no citation, and can't be bothered to find one, don't make bullshit claims like that.
Then post a random video that in fact does not contain any instance of "saying it like that". Unless I missed it, in which case feel free to post the time when it occurred.

If I were to project that your rally experience only boils down to playing SHiT Rally, then that's where you would frequently find the "keep left over crest" pace note. But it's not by a WRC co-driver. Also, since the co-driver is shit in that game and often cuts out, so I might assume you might have misheard the "60 into" when it should have been something like "*[left/right] continues over* 60; into [...]".

But just "60 into" makes little sense, a 60 by itself means distance of straight road until the next note, while "into" means the note is immediate after (i.e. without a straight piece of road).
