Trail has much less width. Also usually has rougher terrain.
You would take dirt roads to a trail to get lost innawoods.
I don't disagree trail riding is one of the best tho.

Would have been a lot more attracted to the new Bobber if it didn't have that black headlight cowl. Seems backwards for Indian to add extra parts to a Bobber styled bike but at the same time I do understand that they'd likely be getting just as much shit for not differentiating enough if they had used the more minimal Scout headlight. Can't please everyone. I don't doubt that Indian will make some good coin off the Bobber, but the entire concept of manufacturers selling "pre-bobbed" bikes seems silly to me, they can't even get away with legally removing or significantly chopping the fenders.

For the dual sporters here, what are your preferred street oriented tires? The only "off-roading" around me is dirt roads that I like to "drift" through turns on. A mortard conversion is too expensive, I just want a [<$100 per] tire that won't kill me on pavement in the rain, lasts longer than knobbies, and gives me some more confidence in corners because folding knobbies is spoopy.
I'm leaning towards Shinko 705's

>>

Ride the fucker until shit breaks and you need to replace it.
I'd only do extensive mods if it's a bike I know I'm going to keep for a long time. OR, mod it and then when you sell it, revert it back to stock and sell the leftover parts separately.
>>
i have a shoei neotec dad helmet and i love it
>>
>>17651020
I used to love driving in the rain because you feel alive; either you slip and die or come home safe. Nowadays my hearing aids amplify the sound of raindrops falling on my helmet to migraine-inducing levels.
To answer your question, i'd usually don on a high-vis vest, waterproof gloves for improved grip and open my visor because else I couldn't see because of the haze
>>
>>17651020
Get a rainsuit and pack it with you

A $60 joe rocket rain suit got me through a notoriously wet winter commuting every day.

Only recently did the zipper on the legs break, i'll probably buy a nicer suit for my new one but it kept me very very dry
>>
>>17651020
I commute and run errands in rain, but I don't go joy riding for no reason in the rain.

I wear axo kalahari jacket/pants, non-waterproof axo leather gloves, and alpinestars mx boots. I've never gotten wet.

I have heated grips, so the leather gloves stay mostly dry unless I am stuck in slow traffic.

If I rode more on highways in rain I would consider putting some rainx or equivalent product on my visor to reduce raindrops.
>>
>>17651111
forgot to add, I have a helmet with pinlock and breathguard. so fogging is never an issue. most new helmets have this.

Just did my first chain adjustment. Instead of using the adjustment marks on the swingarm, I took at caliper and measured the distance from where the adjustment screw goes into the swingarm and where it meets the axle block. made it the same on both sides and it seems to ride straight.

Yes, measure from the center of the swingarm pivot bolt to the center of the axle on both sides. The cut out for the adjusters on the swingarm MAY not be the same. until you measure from the swingarm pivot bolt you won't know.

Measured both sides from pivot bolt to axle and they appear the same, but my rearsets get in the way of my measuring tape. Since it appears fine, ill leave it as is since I go in for a service in ~250 miles ill have them check it. If its fine, then I know i can do that from now on, if not, ill just figure out how to do the pivot bolt measurement.

Thanks for the suggestions senpai

You are missing something, the low end torque from a liter, or a twin/triple just make them so much easier and more enjoyable to ride than a 600 i4 where you have to worry about where you are in the rev range so you don't lie the motor. Is it viable to buy a dual sport (DRZ or whatever), and swap dirt and super moto wheels back and forth?

Do you need to do suspension mods for the smaller wheels? I suppose you'd need two chains at the least (since sprockets will be very differently sized).

Is there that much advantage to the smaller wheels vs. very street oriented 21/18 tires?

I drive like a hooligan as is and would like to take it to the next level.

Swapping back and forth is pretty easy if you plan it right.

It will work better with different suspension but adding a couple of clicks of comp up front will make it more than ridable.

You can get by with one chain if you are careful about your gearing choices. Most axle blocks have a long side and a short side, flip the block when you swap out wheels ( and gearing ) and it's good to go. a 3 or 4 tooth rear difference is about right depending on your blocks/bike.

Decent street tires on your 21/18 set will get you about 80% of what a dedicated sumo set will on good twisties.

It's probably just ur brain.

If you're really worried about it, support the bike, and then loosen the tri clamps to see if the forks are out of alignment slightly.

If you don't have clipons, loosen your bar holder a bit and then clamp it down and see if they recenter.

They probably are

The FZ6, FZ1, etc are only a pain because modern japanese FI = everything is in a stack between the tank and engine unless you get some cuckbike that tries to make the FI equipment look like carbs

Since they're carbed, everything is in a line, so the only thing between you and the head should be the tank and a couple of hoses.

It also doesn't really matter because anything that requires more than popping the tank or seat isn't done even once a year
>>
>>17652507
Everything that could have been in the way was in the way. And they put things in the most annoying place possible, you had to lift the tank to access the battery, so you had to remove the front fairings which didn't just bolt on and off.

It was like 6 different pieces with the screws in the worst place possible.

Just an example but the entire bike was like that.

Also an old VF I had which was exposed like that was notoriously awful to work on. You had to drop the engine to check the valves and taking the carb off/on took hours and 2 people.

Naked conversions look pretty slick though, and solve half the pain of accessing literally anything that isn't the drain plug and filter.

It's not like the stock gooseneck does shit for comfort in headwinds unless you tack on a fuckhueg touring screen anyways. Fifty bucks says it's only a minor aerodynamic improvement for empeegees and high speed stability (having shit stuck to the bars isn't very good for headshakes at 100mph).

I just wanted to thank you and all the motovlogers that made this transition possible.

Questions.
Does Supereurobeat still feel the same while riding? How smelly and sweaty do you guys get after 1-2 hours riding in summer and is it tolerable or at best preventable (90+ weather, I'm in Florida)? How do you afford gear that isn't shit? Why do 90% of the people I see riding only wear a helmet, jacket, and gloves? How does the no ABS thing work if you lockup unlike a car?
Do you regret riding instead of driving a car often (for those with friends, I don't have any but am trying)?

I would be totally fine with a v4 everything for Honda. But Honda does have a lot of history with the i4 and the new cb650f is perfect for Honda to stand out with a new retro bike. No one else has an i4 naked retro. But also no one has a mid size v4 lineup.
>>
>>17652689
>preventable
Depends which tire you lock up, front tired you're goign to crash. Rear tire, you'll need luck and a LOT of control, also depends on what speed you're going. Low speeds, a rear lock probably won't do anything but make a noise and scare you. Front lock, might lift you're rear up and spook you. Don't hamfist the brakes.
>>
>>17652646
>Does Supereurobeat still feel the same while riding?
Depends, but normally yeah.
>How smelly and sweaty do you guys get after 1-2 hours riding in summer and is it tolerable or at best preventable (90+ weather, I'm in Florida)?
>Florida
You're gonna die. 90+ weather in that humidity feels like 150 degrees, which brings me to your next question
>Why do 90% of the people I see riding only wear a helmet, jacket, and gloves?
Because it's fucking hot. Realistically, a helmet is the only thing that's gonna save your life. leathers save your skin, but they don't do anything for impacts.
>How do you afford gear that isn't shit?
By not being a poorfag who can't manage money?
>How does the no ABS thing work if you lockup
Rear locks up = sikk skidz/lowside depending on how much of a shitter you are
>Front locks up
sikk stoppies/nosedive depending on how much of a shitter you are.
>Do you regret riding instead of a car often (for those with friends, I don't have any but am trying)?
Never ever ever do I regret it. My friends either ride with me or take a car, and if I have a backseat I'll just take gf/whatever on backseat and ride like that.

Honda doesn't prepare the Isle of Man bikes in house. It's one British team that runs the road racing bikes and the Honda Endurance Racing bike in EWC, and that finished 20 laps behind the Japanese TSR and HARC-Pro teams at Suzuka and was generally horribly behind TSR all season. HARC-Pro is also a close 3rd in JSB1000 points with 2 wins out of 4 races.

Motorcycles are dangerous, uncomfortable, and expensive. There's no getting around this. The more expensive things get, the less dangerous or uncomfortable they get - better gear, better brakes, better tires, more stable sportbikes with shit like steering dampers and traction control or comfier tourers with more creature comforts. But still, it's always going to be significantly more dangerous and more uncomfortable than a car.

The only reason to ride a bike is because you like it. They are the ultimate symbol and last bastion of driving pleasure. Somewhere in asia, someone rides a beat up 200cc honda single because it's all they can afford or all they can find parking for, and they suffer for it, but here in the US it's an optional machine for absolute madmen.

Get used to it. Luckily, entry costs are cheap sans gear. It's running costs that set you back a fucktonne.

So don't be a retard and get treated? The majority of crashes on roadways are low speed anyway, unless you're being a retard on a highway, in which case you probably deserve whatever comes to you.

When it gets hot I got this cooler jacket thing that works pretty nice. You soak it in cold water for 10 or 15 minutes before you head out, and wear it against your skin. It REALLY helps with high temperatures, especially if you only have a black leather jacket like I do.

Empty parkinglots mostly. on most mountain roads if you're going fast and hitting hard leans you're most likely gonna go into a tree/rock/off a cliff anyway. That leather isn't going to save you.

Hey, guys, /k/ traveller here. I'm looking to get my first motorcycle. My dad has been riding since he was a kid and also as motorcycle patrol on the PD. I've already bugged him and picked his brain, but I'd like to hear you guys.

cb500x for a first bike to be used for touring and commuting? Places to get good deals? My gear is already taken care of so it's just deciding on the bike.

>>

You can lock the front and be fine. It comes down to balance more than anything.

>>17652850
>Wait, how do you distribute break force distribution to stop on a bike? I thought people used all front brake to stop?
There's a brake pedal and a brake lever. Depending on suspension geometry, you use different amounts of both for the shortest stopping distance. Most sportbikes have near-useless rear brakes when it comes to stopping in a straight line though, since they stop hard enough to make the rear too light to keep good grip.
>I thought motorcycles were FOR poorfags
Cost of entry on motorcycle is cheap. Gear is not. all you really need is rainproof gear if you're not planning on doing trackdays. Other than that just get a helmet. If you're really cheap, the Speed and Strength S700 is a great helmet for the price and about as cheap as you can get.

Gear is expensive and only really useful if you plan to push hard regularly. If you're just fucking around a bit, not having gear is gonna cause you a few minor scrapes if you crash most likely. If it's more than that, the gear probably wouldn't have helped.
