Why do homeless and mentally ill people hate motorcycles so much? I see a lot of videos of them running after/throwing stuff.
Just today I was riding down a quiet road and a Chinese looking dude walking waved at me so I waved back, then as I was passing him he gave me the finger. KEK nobikes stay mad

I have a problem... I have a 2002 SV650S (track bike/buddy bike when friends visit) and a 2009 Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

I want to sell both of them and get a naked bike that I can take to the race track. The idea is that the carbed SV isn't comfortable enough for long term use and the Dorsoduro isn't reliable enough for long term use or cheap enough to repair after a low side or two at the track.

What do I get???

I'll lane split on fuckers who won't get out of the passing lane sometimes if there is a lot of room, but usually not. Filtering makes so much sense, but I don't risk it because of passive-aggressive Minnesota asshole who will probably open a door in your face. We've been a zipper merge state for almost a decade, but you still see people pulling half into the ending lane to block it so you can't pass them up to the merge area.

Only real issue in it is a slow leak in the front fork air suspension. Not bad for a $250 bike.

As fellow smallbaiku, I only tuck at/around 75-90 (maxed and bobbing). 65 at altitude, or when tired from long day tour.
Looking over the older shield is good enough most of the time. I do in chin-tank when trying for speed.

The p-twin makes enough power to sustain me up to 80, while upright, most of the time. Don't know about the single, but tucking on a bike like this is only really needed to overtake. Or when acting stupid in a canyon.
Spin up for a sustained run a couple times. See where she's comfortable.

As former driver, should have tossed him two bucks. Yes, you're disgruntled. But drivers spend almost no time in the kitchen, so it's rarely their fault.
Also, more than 50% of my income was tips after the shop I helped open got established. Being the only sub-15 minute driver probably helped, but it's still what keeps them afloat with the maintenance costs of all those miles.
(I fucking wish we had these. Would have let me deliver even quicker than the riced VW)

Indeed nighthawk. Too bad for you. I weigh 250+ and have had the speedo bobbing downhill. On flat it tops where it should, at 82-85.
But the nighthawk is spun up a little higher. Clymer says set to idle at 1500 vs 1200 for a rebel.

Probably why I don't get the charging problem either.

Supermoto is the sport and motard is the correct name of the bikes involved in said sport.

As a side note, even the full on enduro/mx motards don't require the strict maintenance schedule that the manuals suggest. Street riding is much easier on the bike than hard enduro riding or motocross. My oil is still clean after 500 miles.(2014 wr450)

It's real hard chrome as far as I am aware. I honestly haven't given it the care I should. The front fender is in real good shape, the exhaust and handlebars have little spots that I could probably knock down with just some steel wool. Ugliest part is the lower parts of the front forks and the top of the chain cover. The clear coat is shit, with the alum oxidizing of this speckled mess. Need to strip the clear coat and polish them up. The wheels look like shit in most of my pics (can't really see them here), but I hit them with some chain cleaner the last time I had it at the wash and they and are like fucking mirrors now. The engine itself doesn't look bad except for one spot under the clutch arm where it chipped and oxidized.

Honestly the bike could look about a thousand times better with 4-5 hours of work, but that would be time spent not riding, which doesn't work in Minnesota. Winter is coming, and there will be time to polish during the long dark.

I'll try it in my mock up drawings. I'm waiting until late spring, at least, so I don't drop the fresh paint in the Washington rain.
Chain cleaner is a good idea for the rear spokes. The detail shop I took it to last week got all chicken-shit around the engine block and wheels.
And the gauges. And under the windshield.

Vicfag here, it's ezpz

Don't overthink it, the absolute most important things from what I would tell myself now:
- The bike goes where you look. Knees on the tank, arms loose. You will have this drilled into you on day one. I'm emphasizing it here because it's basically the number one rule.
- Don't be afraid to abuse the shit out of the clutch. I went in on the first day always on the brink of stalling because I was used to a manual car, not over-revving it, not riding the clutch at slow speed, etc. First time on the bikes they gave us, it felt like riding a washing machine when revving it. It made me not want to give it much throttle from a start because it felt like I was abusing it compared to what I was used to.
- Make sure your helmet fits, consider sizing up if it's a loaner. If you have your own helmet already, great. If you're borrowing one, stop and ask for a size up if you wind up with a hotspot on your forehead.

It's a real good mix of theory, range time, theory, back on the range. I think you need to do an on-road portion now because of the MGLS but it's only quick, it's the check ride in a month or two that takes a while to go through. What bike you looking at? Also check the weather, if it's gonna be super cold in the morning consider an extra layer. Even at 25 km/h the wind will get to you when it's 7 degrees and you're wearing a hoody, jeans, and MX gloves.

>>17635302
In Victoria, you do a 2 day course to get your L's. They're valid for 3-15 months, you have to go for your full license within that time frame or it expires and you do it all again.

Are the L plate rules the same if I have a full drivers licence?

Thanks for the tips.

Hi /dbt/

Been riding my 2013 CBR250R for a few days now. It's got a Screaming Demon aftermarket slip-on, which makes it quite loud.

Come out to my bike tonight and it won't start, go to check the engine and I find this...

Firstly, anyone know of what those wires run to? The neuteral light won't come on now so I'm suspecting its the part of the loom that gives the info from the transmission to the ECU?

I'm not bike expert but judging by the fact that it won't crank over and it wont recognise that i am in neuteral, i am guessing that those wires have something to do with the tranny.

On top of all that shit, is it just me or does that look like some cunt has sabotaged it? It would make sense because I live in a scum cunt neighberhood and people seem pissed with the bike's noise.. idk /o/, i am beyond pissed, anyone know anything that could help me out?

Cheers.
>>
>>17635332
If you're comfortable with slow speed stuff already then you'll smash it, that's 90% of the lesson.

>Are the L plate rules the same if I have a full drivers licence?
Same for everybody. Once you're off the L's then you don't need plates, but you're still restricted with power/weight, engine capacity, etc. Get your full license ASAP, restrictions last for ages and you might save on insurance in the long run.

Thanks, it's my third season with it now and I still like it. Enough power for me for the time being. Slowly getting to the point where I want something FI'd and with better wind protection for touring though.
This SEM made me realize that trying to ride fast on public roads really isn't for me. If I wanted the local roads to be fun, I'd be doing literally twice the speed limit and be at risk of t-boning grandma at the intersection (if you catch my drift). Even on funner roads like in the alps, you're constantly stuck behind cagers (that you can't safely and legally overtake so you end up breaking more laws and increasing the risk of head-on collisions), can't see around corners etc. Need to save up monies for track days and go there on my little shitbike CB, learn to push its limits rather than hitting my own.

Speaking of carbs
When putting on the choke at any time (warm or cold), the bike just fucking dies, even if I keep the throttle open. Sounds like the bypass channels are clogged, right? I didn't do jack shit to the bike, it started fine with the choke one day (as always), sat outside for a night (which it has been doing for years) and then this shit started happening. Doesn't matter if the choke is half closed, fully closed, ... either it has no effect (choke is open, engine runs) or the engine dies (choke is at least partially closed).
Is there anything I can do to further diagnose the problem before I rip everything apart?
>>
>>17635338
Someone cut the wires. been riding around early morning/late at night with that loud cunt pipe?
And they are the stator wires so your bike has no power.
probably take that retarded loud pipe off it.
>>
>>17635981
When was the last time you cleaned your air filter....
What do you think the choke does?
If you are unaware it restricts air flow, if putting it on restricts air flow so much that the bike dies then the air filter is the problem isn't it?
if it runs without the air filter you found your problem.
otherwise the air flow is being restricted inside the carby and you have fun with that.
>>
>>17635974
The people who showed up were, for the most part, likeable guys that are fun to bullshit around with while you're taking breaks on rides or waiting for the rain to stop, and fun to ride with when it has. The ATs were kinda slow, that was fine by me because I could just chill out, copy their speed and not worry about crashing. Had I wanted to go faster (like Shivvy), I'd have overtaken them and that would have been that.

You'll never know until you try it, friend.
>>
>>17635995
I installed a new air filter literally 3 weeks ago.
I know the choke restricts the air flow, but I also know that when it's fully closed, some air should still be able to flow through the carb via bypass channels so the engine doesn't fucking die as soon as you close it completely.
Will check the air filter and see what's the dealio.
>>
>>17635985

Can be fixed relatively cheap: going to need to solder up the breaks and fit some shrink over it.

Did you put oil on the air filter?
if so did you put too much oil on the air filter?
thatell do it too (not that all air filters need oil but some certainly do)
or alternatively maybe it is a filter that needs oil and you didnt put oil on it.
>>
>>17636039
>oil on the air filter
No..? It's a cylindrical filter with the paper in the center and surrounded by like a metal cage, and in the instructions it didn't say to put oil in. Never used oil on the previous air filters either.
>>
>>17636047
It's silicone grease you want to put on it. It stops water being able to enter the carb.
>>
>>17636009
why are people so afraid of riding on dirt with a road bike?
>>
>>17636047
K&N? Should either come preoiled or not require oil.
>>
>>17636047

Either your bypass or a jet is clogged. Unfortunately for you, you've got to pull down the carbs and give them a soak. Blow the jets out with a compressor (don't poke in there with a needle, scratches the surface up).
>>
>>17636053
Again, I've been using these filters for years on this bike, without any grease or oil, with no problems despite it sitting outside in rain, cold weather and fog for extended periods during that time.

>marginal benefit off road compared to a street bike
I would say they are way more than marginally better. Way more ground clearance, can be dropped and crashed without causing much damage. Street tires aren't even bad on sumos unless it is either sand or wet, or you are trying to ride really hard/fast.
>substantially worse on road
In ways yes, but they have their own place. Super light and easy to throw around tight turns and twisty roads.
Have you ridden one before?
>>
>>17636064

Won't cause this sort of issue, but at high speed it can make it stutter - jets are brass and needles are steel, so you can cut grooves in it by accident and fuck up the surface.

>Do I need special carb cleaner to soak it in or is fuel good?

I'd recommend carb cleaner, most pump fuels haven't got much detergent in them. Diesel is better, but blowing it out is a pain.

Worst comes to worst, you can actually just do it with soapy water, but you run the risk of oxydation in the circuits if you don't thoroughly dry it out.

owned one. sold the supermoto wheels and put dirt tires on it instead. I would never choose a supermoto over a good dual sport to go trail riding so serious off road ability isn't really relevant. If I happen to be riding road and want to go explore some light trails or take a dirt road I have no problem doing that on my sport bike.

The sport bike is better in the twisty roads too. I guess the supermoto has the benefit of being slightly more relaxed through roads like the dragon where there's back to back really tight corners. Those roads are super rare anyway so it's pretty much useless to me.

If you like yours then that's cool. Enjoy it. It's not "better" though.
