Hello everybody...... Does anybody have any good ideas in going about giving away solid body mount bushings for my T/A I don't need them because I put in polyurethane ones in, they are from pro-touring F-body and I'd love to pass them on in good faith, I have no need for them and it's to late to return ten..... Or is anybody interested in them..

TL:DR. I have some extra solid aluminum body bushings for fbodys and I want a creative way to give em away to my fellow /o/ ccg goers

I bought all the pipes and told them what to do, went from a 3.5 collector to 2 in duals, temporary but needed some flex to make the reducers work.

Besides it's nice to have a little flex so the shit doesn't crack eventually.

>>17634286
x pipe or no pipe
>>
>>17634250
The "X" frame has poor ride quality, is weak; it twists easily with even mild torque, requires a double-jointed driveshaft with difficult to locate parts, has excessive body roll and twists the body; a death sentence for a convertible. They can even snap at the center "X" if fatigue is present; this happened on NEW cars until 1959.

Pretty sure it took atleast 5-10 years off my life span with all the exhaust fumes it pumped into the cabin on my 45 min commute.

One day it just decided to spit out the resonator in my neighborhood.

It burned so much oil that I'd just wait till the oil pressure started to dip to know when to refill, still chugged on though.

Good cars.
>>
>>17634328
Not all GM's used the X-frame from 57-64. Only C-Bodies used them 57-58 also the Riviera used the X-frame until 1970
>>
>>17634342
No its a inherently flawed design. Short of adding perimeter rails its impossible to fix.
>>
>>17634315
Yeah but the H-pipe works as a support as well, only takes another 15 minutes to torch the holes, cut the pipe and weld. It's what we do at work every now and then when someone actually comes in for dual exhaust
>>
>>17634342
Supports can be added; braces cut and welded in, but it's not a good design. Oldsmobile never used it, curiously enough. There's a reason that from 1957 through 1963 GM wasn't known for a performance car until it changed frames in 1964.
>>
>>17634385
Sorry Buick didn't use the X-frame until 1961. Oldsmobile never used it at all. Pontiac used it 1958-60 but then went to a perimeter frame in 1961. Chevy used it 58-64 and Cadillac 57-64

True but the celica is almost 30 years old, makes maybe 25mpg highway tops. Also 5spd, not super practical for city stuff, even if I do live in the country

not very to get it to a running position. to get a perfect AFR you need to either be incredibly skilled at reading spark plugs or have a wideband in the exhaust.

he probably means the carb needs a cleaning, which is fairly easy.

I'm trying to figure out why the brakes on a 1974 plymouth duster are hard to use (read: put the pedal all the way down to the floor and then some to get stopping power). I checked the brake fluid reservoir (it has two fill spots, one facing the front of the car and one facing the rear) and noticed that the rear was lower than the front. I filled the rear reservoir up, put the lid back on it, and started pumping the brakes with the car off. I couldn't find and signs of a leak on the ground around the tires nor underneath it. I then checked my fluid reservoir again and the rear bowl had lost some fluid while the front one remained the same.

I'm not sure what else to do and check for. If you can offer any advice I'd appreciate it. Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

>Pic sorta related, that's the part but a google image
>>
>>17637198
Air in brake lines (need bleeding) or fluid leaking past the seals on the master and no pressure build up (new master cylinder
Or you got some stuck to shit brakes or ballooning break hoses

351m or 400? Don't let retards fool you, those engines are 351c and 460 combined and you can get some good horsetorques out of them with a good set of Cleveland heads. Just need to mill them to get the compression up
>>
>>17637406
It is a 400m engine and 4 speed manual. 4x4 of course. At some point I plan on doing a complete rebuild where I will make it a 408 stroker and put some good heads on it.

Instead of welding in a patch, i was thinking of riviting on a plate once i cut out the rust. Thoughts?

Other quick fixes include filling the doors with expanding foam before making new interior pannels out of wood, and using a rug (think the city rug every kid had) to cover the floor.

>>

Well i have access to aviation paint, so i was thinking the USCG red for the body and white roof. I really want to stay away from a rat rod look. Whole point of the car (if i keep it) was for it to look nice for my wedding.

I figured worst case, i put in a few hundred bucks for parts, paint it, and turn around and try to sell it for 5-7k. By then itll pretty much be a half way good looking driver with a flathhead.
>>
>>17638082
flat black with flat red are such an easy and cool color combo though. Match the wheels, find a visor and you have yourself a pretty cool little kustom you can sell.
>>
>>17638082
And before anyone jumps on me for wanting to flip the car, i bought it for 2200, if i can throw 500 into it and turn around and sell it for 5k, id be estatic. Especially since there are a bunch of 60s mustangs in good condition for like 5-7k
>>
>>17638116
You cant flip a 52 Ford for that much. It's just not a desirable year and it's not a super desirable body style. Especially not with the super low effort repairs you want to do

You don't NEED to mill anything to get the compression up, I'm running tmeyer pistons and thinner head gaskets to get around 9.5:1 c/r. That being said I thought I wasted my money on this entire 400 build by only getting late 7s/low 8s 0-60 until I finally checked my rear end ratio... 2.75:1

stock smoggie heads, stock smoggie manifolds(soon to be full length headers and 3" exhaust), stock everything; besides the cam, intake, carb and pistons.

Okay guys, I've tuned the carb and adjusted the timing and the hesitation still exists. When I had the carb apart I noticed the metal around where the air filter stud was mushroomed like someone had dropped something on it which I wouldn't put past the guy who I got it from.

In other news I went to a car show and met a guy who is going to sell me a 1976 F150 with a good running 390. It's a 2wd long box and it's got the floor pan cut out but a replacement comes with it. Trans is out of the truck currently but it comes with the C6. It has an aluminum radiator, new carb, 4 aluminum wheels, and it's 900 dollars. I don't have the cash right now because poorfag but he'll do payments on it. Guy is a beast.
>>
>>17639095
It is not worth 5k bud. Just because someone is selling a shell for 3 grand doesn't mean shit. And doing a half ass job of fixing it up won't help the value
>>
>>17639148
>Okay guys, I've tuned the carb and adjusted the timing and the hesitation still exists.
Right off idle?
This is a problem with the accelerator pump timing. Ideally the squirt needs to happen the moment the throttle blades crack. Check the accelerator pump linkage for slack. Any slack whatsoever, no matter how small will cause a hiccup, even if it doesn't seem like much. Chink carbs usually have this problem.

If you're getting a bog down while flooring it, most likely you timed the secondaries incorrectly.
>>
>>17639182
Well, you do you man. I believe once ive got it painted, slap some new rubber, and make it a bit nicer inside, i bet i can get 5k for it. Ya it wont be a show car, but its still a decent 2 door V8 64 year old classic thats on the road and rust free.
>>
>>17639203
The other anon with 2150, but my carb has no play in the accel pump linkage, yet the shot is delayed. Could it be a weak spring, or what?

If it has been a long time since a rebuild and you've been running ethanol gas the diaphragm might be getting a bit too old.

I know next to nothing about Autolites though but my Corvair is starting to develop this problem, nothing too bad yet but i used to daily it. Another factor at play is the volume of fuel being squirted, you can develop a rich bog just because you shot too much fuel into the engine.

I considered that...but, if I don't back off the throttle when it bogs, sometimes it'll backfire--isn't that a sign of too lean?

it depends on what's happening inside the combustion chamber, you should pull your plugs and take a gander first.

>>17639516
Does your carb have different spots to adjust your accelerator valve rod like Motorcraft 2100 and 2150s do? If it's an older carb there may be 3 different holes to put the rod into for adjustment during cold, hot and normal weather

>>17639516
I have this issue on my autolite. New pumps, new diaphragm, tuning the actuator.

Basically all I've been able to come up with is a clogged passage. I've soaked the carb in carb cleaner a few times but it didn't do it. The only solution I've found is a truck I learned when fucking with 80s Honda motorcycles. Take all the rubber out of the carb, remove as much as possible from the carb, and boil it for 20 minutes in a solution of 1 part lemon juice and 5 parts distilled water. Sounds weird, but it worked wonders on those ancient CV carbs.

hey, guys, posted this in the Stupid questions tread, but gonna post it here too.

I clearly can't tune a carburetor worth a shit and I'm at a loss. not to mention the fact I can't find any goddamn info on where shit is on this particular carb (Carter 1bbl). truck is a 79 ford 300 i6/3 speed auto. on a cold start it either won't hold idle at all, or it will do this weird stumble-surge-stumble-surge dance until a minute or two later it smooths out. if, after it smooths out, I put ANY strain on the engine (Putting it in gear, for example), it starts the stumble-surge thing again, or just dies outright. once it reaches operating temp it runs fine, though (generally speaking). I messed around with what I THINK is the mixture screw (passenger side near the base of the carb) and it will at least reliably stay running on a cold start now, but it still does the stumble-surge dance, and if I try to just start it up and go the engine will sputter and die. all smashing the pedal does during this is make the engine backfire and stumble. once its warmed up it accelerates normally (slow as shit, but eh, its a 79). should mention I've been driving it for ~ two weeks and its only been doing this the past few days. it sat for 6-ish months outside prior to this.

and yes I know the PCV is disconnected. it does it regardless. Webm related (warning: Starter ear rape)

I had a similar problem, same carb. Buy a rebuild kit from Mike's carbs, clean out the jets and passages with B12. Set the float level. Could also have a vacuum leak, if any screws can be turned by hand you need to tighten them up good (including some of the linkage mounting screws)

Carb tuning is pretty simple, turn mixture screw both ways until idle starts to die off, set it to the midpoint of the two. Idle speed screw should be set at ~600rpm

I bought a 76 Hilux and I've been doing various fixes to keep it DD-able, but now the manual steering box is leaking, and I've found out the center drive shaft bearing has been bad for like a couple thousand miles.

That's what I figured, It's red when hot and I've only ever checked it when hot. I wonder how bad I've damaged this transmission driving it like that. I figure that's why the original owner put an external oil cooler in front of the radiator for it. Also It should smell like coolant if that's what has contaminated it right? if that's what it is will changing the fluid damage the transmission. My dad said that with an older transmission that hasn't been taken care of (like the precious owner did to this one) that changing the fluid will loosen a lot of dirt and shit in the transmission and kill it soon afterward. If that's true I'm fucked either way. luckily th350's aren't that expensive.
>>
>>17643298
Sometimes what happens is all the crud in the fluid is what's keeping the trans together. I'd check all the cooling lines for leaks. Honestly since you're swapping the motor you may as well pull the trans out with it and put in a new one

None of the lines leak going into the extra tranny radiator but I guarantee at one point the original radiator went bad and leaked coolant in the atf. I'll look around and see if I can find another th350. If not I'll change the fluid and hope for the best. It still shifts hard but the only thing it doesn't do well is a slight delay when going into reverse like 3-4 seconds when cold.
>>
>>17643386
If it's still working decently and there's no flakes in the fluid, I'd change the fluid and filter and see what that looks like. If it's all sludgy and shitty you might have a problem, but if it's not terrible you might be ok. There's a guy near me who rebuilds th350s and 700r4s for like 600 bucks, you might be able to find something like that near you

No you're fine, at least the swap was to something available in that car. Just go on the Orielly's website and put in your info like normal and make sure to select the 350 engine when you get to it. the previous owner installed an external trans cooler (pic related) so it's probably coolant since it's pretty darn pink looking and most likely he did that due to the radiator leaking. Unfortunate he never told me about it and i didn't notice it. Just to be extra safe Jegs has BOP th350's for like $1,000 bucks so I might just go for that. With all these upgrades I hope It'll be reliable enough to DD it 35 miles to college because that would be awesome!
>>
>>17642492
I have no clue man. I work on modern nip barges, I have to plug a computer into them before even thinking about diagnosing a fuel issue.

>>17643223
The color looks okay except for the milkiness. I'm going to second an internally leaking trans cooler. The coolant will steam the glue holding the clutch material to the metal and goodbye transmission. If it's still somehow shifting okay, you need to stop driving it IMMEDIATELY and fix whatever is wrong. Do not drive it further at all.
>>
Okay, it turns out that the carb has a leak through the throttle shaft. When I spray carb cleaner into where the throttle shaft is it dies. Time for a rebuild kit.
>>
>>17644036
No mistake, you have coolant in your trans fluid. Some mid-late 2000 nissans had that issue, radiator trans cooler would bust and sludge and steam the clutches inside the transmission. It may not be a common issue on GM cars but it does happen.

A sure fire way to completely flush the transmission:
Drain and fill the pan
Remove return line off of cooler
Start engine and pump out 3 quarts into a 5 gallon bucket
Shut engine off
Refill pan with 3 quarts
Repeat until fluid is clean

Used to do that on my crown vics, the trans fluid was crystal clear after, it would get every bit of the old stuff out.

hey /ccg first time poster in this thread. i have a volvo '86 760 turbo intercooler wich is pretty rare overhere. it's rustfree because it was stored inside but unfortunatly it stood for a long time, i drove it for 500km's or something and there's oil everywhere. to do list, clean pcv system, replace the oiltrap and change the seal on the turbo oil returnline. pretty common on these engines and i'm used to work on my cars so i can fix it myself, but stupid it did not do these things outright when i bought it. after that i'm sure plenty more things will pop up. i forgot how much work owning a classic car is but it's worth it

also in the pic is my '97 440 wich blew a cilinder and got condammed to the great scrapyard in heaven last fryday. it may not have been a true volvo but it was a damm comfy car and it served me well for 155000km's

There's a homosexual furry on this board that would yiff himself at having another volvo enthusiast.

Massive oil leaks on a turbo can be scary because it could be lots of things including bad piston rings.
>>
>>17644719
there will be no yiffing in my car

i followed the source of the leak, there's an o ring where the oil return goes back into the engine, those get brittle overtime. and by now i have learned the pcv/oil trap service is the first thing you should do when you buy a 700 series. today i took of the hoses and they where pretty gunked up. i ordered the replacement parts and i'm going to change all the filters and fluids to make it fresh again

sry for the blogpost but I went to check out a turd gen this evening and I think I might buy it. Only serious problem is the transmission slams when you shift into reverse and drive, so that means it's done for right? I'm assuming pic related is the torque converter right? It looks almost like a stall converter, could that be why it slams into drive/reverse? Only reason I'm considering it is because the guy's selling it for barely a grand, so I figure even if the trans is fucked I'll still come out on top

The fluid was pretty good actually, nice and red, no bubbles or fragments. I ran it through the gears with the shifter and it seemed okay I guess. I guess I'm just assuming since it slams so hard into drive that it's done for, but it could be the idles too high or something. I was impressed at how little rust there was. $1k around here barely gets you a roller, so I really want to snag this thing
>>
>>17645136
I say go for it. You might as well for a grand. Badass car.
>>
>>17645150
Yeah I've got ~3200 saved up so I figure worst case scenario I'm still in the clear. Only other major concern is there's some leaking oil somewhere and the temp gauge doesn't work, I'm guessing when the other guy did the swap, he never hooked it back up. You know where that's at?
>>

>>
>>17644571
Then that transmission is on it's last leg since it's probably been like that since I bought it. I'm swapping in a freshly built Pontiac 400 so I'll just get a new transmission too. If I go that route my torque converter should be okay to re use shouldn't it?

I sold some of my firearms to cover the cost and I haven't been in the "firearms market" for a few years so the prices of my stuff really shot up. Ended up saying good bye to 4 mosins, a Turkish Mauser and one of those french semi autos that look like an fn-49. Was half tempted to sell my Svt-40 and c96 but they're just too cool to give up. I'll try to keep /k/ shit on /k/ in the future.

Also You won't believe how much I paid for that Svt-40. Some dude had it for a durr rifle and it wouldn't cycle. Paid $70 for it. Only thing wrong with it was the gas regulator was loose.

6 was by far the worst. Maybe there's a slight leak on the brake booster or the line going to it: it's on the manifold port, which goes to 6. This new carb has been backfiring more than the old one, and accelerates slower. Could it be jetted too lean?

Ok, so the car seems to accel a bit slower with the 2150 carb (1.08, so 287cfm) than the Carter BBD (V8 version so 280cfm), and backfire more, could it be a sign of a leaner mixture than the older carb?
>>
>>17645841
Yes. Take it to a carb shop (do those even exist any more?) or get some jets and go up a size or two.

It could also mean you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb, where the manifold interfaces with the head, et cetera.
>>

Yeah, I'll try that. I should probably check for leaks before I spring for jets (current ones are #48, motorcraft style)

I'm guessing it could have a small leak, since the manifold port it's plugged in, goes to the #6 cylinder and that one had the worst spark plug

Yeah, that's me. I actually got a complete (mostly) history of the truck, both from decoding the VIN and what my uncle tells me.

>built in the Minneapolis plant in 78 for the 79 year
>shipped to Omaha, NE as part of a fleet order
>bought by the city of Huron, SD. Presumably as a work vehicle.
>it gets transferred from dept. to dept. Until eventually it just gets phased out entirely for newer vehicles.
>eventually lack of maintenance catches up to it and the engine just locks up one day (don't know what actually went on it. I'm guessing the torque converter just shit the bed or something because the engines never been rebuilt. At least not fully, anyway. I don't think the head's ever been off and it still has the shitty stock 1-bbl)
>Rather than fix it, the city just auctions it off as-is.
>some dude buys it, fixes whatever was wrong with it, then uses it as a farm truck for 15 odd years
>at some point in time he decided to repaint it (and did a shit job prepping because it's flaking off everywhere). Was originally bright yellow
>also ditched the box for whatever reason (uncle saw the actual box and said it LOOKED alright)
>uncle buys it off him with the intention of flipping it quick
>never gets around to it and so it just sits outside in his parking space year round exposed to the elements
>I wind up driving it temporarily because first my old trucks fuel line ruptured and then again when my jeeps water pump seized.
>kinda grew attached

And so now it sits in my garage for now. Jeeps fixed now, but it can sit outside since its my DD anyway. Will probably wind up repainting it and going out to Huron to get the box. Also needs new brake rotors.

And a better axle gearing, Jesus Christ. 2.75 rear end does not make for quick acceleration. Thing damn near qualifies as a road hazard.

Slamming into reverse could just be high idle like you said. It could also just be a valve body or solenoid issue. But its also important to remember that older auto transmissions had harsh engagements by today standards so it might be normal if it's not too hard.

>>17645214
If you're reusing the torque converter, I would suggest flushing it with the aforementioned method. The trans pump itself is really the only way to get it all 100% out. If you don't want to do that, I would suggest just replacing it. You don't want any coolant contamination whatsoever. Even if it doesn't clog up, overtime it will steam off the glue holding the friction material on.

.40 S&W is a meme cartridge that's being dropped after people realized it holds no significant advantage over 9mm or .45. The reason you can find so many cheap .40 S&W Glocks is because police departments are switching back to 9mm.
>>
>>17647384
Well then what's the alternative in 9mm for like 3-400 dollars
>>
>>17647397
A Glock should still be on the table at that point. Smith and Wesson M&Ps are another solid choice. You should be able to find lots of guns in 9mm for 400. Especially used guns. You should familiarize yourself with Colorado's gun laws first though.

>>
>>17647513
Guns are stupid simple. Buy either a Bulgarian Makarov, Glock, Colt, Beretta, or S&W pistol/revolver and you'll be fine.

As for Calibers?

9mm's fine,
9x18's only really sold at Academy,
.40S&W is fine,
.45 is fine, a little harsh, but fine
.44 mag is radical

and 10mm is dead as... dead. Still cool, though.

Ruger's okay, hi-point's garbage, Taurus is a joke, H&K's also okay.

And that's pistols in a nutshell. Just get something that's comfortable for you. If that's a glock, good. H&K, sure. S&W? Awesome.

Looking for some advice.
I was told I snapped a valve spring while I was driving, but the day it happened my engine died and wouldn't turn over. I thought it had seized. When I went to tow my car it ran again but sounded like a box of rocks. What could have caused my engine to shut down like that? should I even bother trying to rebuild my motor or should I just buy another one?
>>
>>17649861
First off, what kind of car and engine? Second, is the engine knocking currently and is it running badly? Do you have any video of the engine sounding like a box of rocks?

>>17649129

>>
>>17649917
Mk3 Supra with a 7M. I don't have any video because I took the ignition off to remove the valve cover, but stopped there as motivation ran dry. I looked up a few videos of cars running with a broken valve spring and it sounded very similar, but I'm now wondering if it's worth replacing the spring if my motor seemed to seize up.
I should mention that before all this there was a mishap that made me drive it over a quart low on oil without realizing and it had a tick since then so I always just kind of figured the motor was on it's way out, but was too poor to do anything about it. partially because of this damn car.
>>
>>17649861
A: Don't try and run it again, you don't want pieces of spring plugging up your oil passages like why my 383 seized.

B: you need to ascertain the extent of the damage caused by the valve spring. Best case scenario should be a full valve train rebuild but you might get away with just doing that valve.
>>
>>17649935

>>17649934
Don't know much about supras, but this kind of goes for just about every engine. What everyone else said kind of sums it up, but I would also add that you should pull the spark plug and put a bore scope camera down there to look at the piston and see if the valve hit anything. If it did, you may be looking at pulling the head off bare minimum to replace the valve, if the piston isn't cracked. However, if things did hif, you may still be able to get away with just dping the valve spring if nothing is shattered.

If there's no metal in the oil, your engine is probably okay, and you may ne able to get away with just doing the valve springs.

But before deciding which route, you must ascertain:
1)is there metal caught in the oil filter? (Very fine particles are acceptable, you don't want shavings or chunks you can actually feel)If shavings or chunks are present, you need a rebuild or new motor.

2) did the valve hit the piston? If so, is the piston cracked or pieces missing? (A small ding in the piston face is acceptable) if the piston is cracked, or chunks missing, you need a rebuild or new engine.

3) if the valve did hit, how badly is it bent? Even though it's not technically acceptable to reuse a valve that hit, if it is not visibly bent, it may still seal and may be reusable to get you by in a pinch. You can try throwing a valve spring on rolling with it. If the valve is bent, you will need to pull the head off and replace the valve and do springs, etc. And depending on the condiof other items, it may be best to replace the motor.

Also decided to straighten, screw and glass over the fender. Turns out its not as rusted as i thought. I forgot to get hardener so this will do for now.

If you're absolutely sure about that, then you probably don't need to bore scope it. I think you can rent them from parts stores though, I'm fairly certain.

Did you actually find a broken spring once you got the valve cover off?

Myself and the other non rate are making a name for ourselves here on base. Sad part is we also use the auto shop the most. 1st it was his 59 F100 and my 66 Dart, now its his late 70s fire truck and my 53 Customline.

Taking the car to a car show at whataburger if anyone is in Mobile area tomorrow evening. Think ill win?

>>17650378
Huh...well thats a new looking kind of rear main to me. But you got it off, so good on ya.

>>17650399
Looks better than it did. I'd say go over with another coat of fiberglass and see if you can smooth that panel straight.
>>
>>17650401
No, it's dohc so I forgot that the cam itself is blocking it and I haven't gotten to taking that off. I am sure about the valves not kissing the pistons though. It's all baseless conjecture from a tow truck driver who claimed to also be a mechanic. It doesn't really cost anything to assume he's right until I confirm otherwise though and he seemed like he knew what he was talking about. He also however dalayed dropping off my car so he could pick up some girl to give him a blowjob in the tow truck later.

JFC that's hilarious. Your timing cover, belt, and all that shit has to come off too. Good luck.

Well assuming all that is true and not just conjecture, you should be able to slap a set of springs on it and roll. Put a new timing belt on as well, because that's coming off. That dude could be full of shit though.

You might be able to tell which spring is broken without pulling all that shit off though. Im not sure what kind of lifter design it has, or how the cam pushes the valves, but you might be able to push down on whatever rides on top of the springs and see which ones gives; that'll be your broken spring.
>>
>>17650868
Yeah, I haven't gotten to it because I know all that shit needs to come off, and right before my car broke I forgot my toolbox at the place of a friend who just moved.
The tow truck driver was comically scummy and his broad was a real tugboat but it was through CAA so I didn't pay for it anyway. He asked me if I wanted help diagnosing it so he started it up, listened to it, fucked with the spark plug wires and told me it probably wasn't a bearing which was what I had thought.

>>17650838
I use several different but for deer which I most commonly hunt here I use a mossy sa-20 or a Marlin 45-70 Ohio's game laws are kinda dumdum

ehhhhhhh

As a rule, the GE (as in 4A-GE) Toyota engines are interference, while the FE and SOHC, (the 4A-FE and 3E-E respectively) are non-interference.

Was there ever a 7M-FE?

Yeah it was fine. Git gud scrub.

I also shot this. Was ok but I didn't like the rider action as much as the Glock. I'm thinking about getting a Glock 22 just for bang for the buck and cheap bullets

So my trans am has no coolant overflow tank and the hose it should be connected to is pissing everywhere. Could I use a bottle or something as a temporary fix?

You can use literally anything as long as the hose reaches the bottom of the bottle.

Don't be that much of a hack. Go to oreillys and get a proper universal coolant recovery tank for $10. They fit/work better than a bottle and will ensure that your cooling system won't form (anymore)air pockets. That's what my bronco has.

Really? I do know non-VVTI 2j'z aren't interference and they're GE.
Supra fourms seems to think they're not-interference and I just figure they're likely not to be considering early 80's turbo technology and high compression doesn't really fit together.

I Have the really old Schmidt-Ruben, Kinda a shame no ammo exists for it so I'll never shoot it.
I won't be making ammo for it anytime soon either as it's expensive
