Figure you fags would be the most appropriate people to ask. I'm moving at the end of the month and plan on taking my Focus packed full of my shit. This is my route and I was HOPING to be able to pull it off without stopping for a hotel since I'd have to either bring all of my shit into my room and repack or risk having it stolen ($1k computer, $600 guitar, $350 amp, $2k or so in guns, probably $1k in anniemay figures) so I'd rather not. Any tips? When would be a good time to leave if I wanted to avoid major traffic in the Chicago and Cleavelend area. Also would I be better off leaving on the weekend or Monday?

Just stop at a motel. Leave all of your stuff in the car. Don't worry. And make sure you tell us which motel you stop at.

And weekend will be better. I do the same shit driving back and forth to Chicago. Close to 24hrs straight thru so I make sure I go through Atlanta and Nashville at good times.

9pm to 5am is always safe, but if you have to do it during the day, try and go through Chicago between like 9:30am and 1pm. Sunday would be the best and you wouldn't have to worry about rush hour.

Also for those long drives, I'm always on the road for at least a full night. I like to plan it so the last few hours of the drive are in the morning. So when I do my drive from Chicago to Miami, I leave around 9am or 10am, morning rush hour is done, I go thru ATL about 10pm at night, then when I'm starting to get tired after 18-20 hours of driving, the sun starts coming up and gives me a second wind. And that way I get into South Florida after AM rush hour too.

The thing is with brand new trucks, you have to rev match almost perfectly if you don't want to grind them. In older trucks, they are so worn that you can get the gear as long as you come close to matching.

I had my first blowout like 2 weeks after I was done training. Left a bunch of shreds on I-95 during AM rush hour and my traffic jam made the radio traffic report. Luckily I was able to get down an off ramp off the shoulder.

The last one I had was the worst. Sounded like a bomb. There are these metal steps that pull out of the trailer and it broke welds and bent the fuck out of that steel and totally destroyed the thick plastic mud guard in front of the wheel. I'm also in the daycab so that shit was right behind my head.

It wasn't scary or anything though because within half a second you know exactly what happened. The first one was when we had this manager who would bitch at you whenever you broke down like "Why didn't you check that on your pre-trip?!?" and I was more scared wondering how he was going to try and blame the blowout on me.

Is Freightliner Cascadia supposed to be better than International Prolapse? Or is it more just a preference thing with no real answer, like F-150 vs Silverado? I'm asking because I've been driving an International for a year now but my windshield is being replaced so they stuck me in a Freightshaker for a day or two. First day impressions, it's OK and there are a couple things I like better but I gotta say that I prefer the Prolapse. The interior seems better designed. We separate for 2 reasons.

First and foremost. 2 vehicles= 2 trucks = 2 bills= more $$$$$

2nd is the simple fact that some driveshafts are real cock suckers to remove, and most towing companies wont reinstall driveshafts due to liability. Plus when you front tow, you have to supply air for the air ride suspension to inflate, and some people are convinced that caging brake chambers somehow magically ruins adjustment, so we don't like to do that either. Rear towing is generally easier and quicker then front towing, especially if you have access to the cab.

Oh, and some places require tow trucks to have overlength permits to move a truck with a trailer, so if you don't have that then you're fucked. Some States have also made it illegal to tow a tractor+trailer. Washington and PA come to mind.

The best way to keep your floors clean is to minimize the amount of dirt and dust that gets on them.

Go to Wal-Mart or Payless and buy a cheap pair of comfortable slip on shoes to be used exclusively as driving shoes in the cab, and buy a little plastic wash basin or bin to put your outside footwear in while you are driving, then swap them when you go to get out.

You clean your floor once, and it'll stay clean for a long ass time if you're not tracking in more stuff multiple times a day.
