I can't even tell wtf I'm looking at, but here's the best advice I got for you
>look up service manual for your bike
>figure out what you broke
>remove broken part
>use the chisel method to remove, or weld a nut to it
>replace the part
>>
>>17627127
Not sure what it does, but the right way to fix that is cut off the old broken end odf the wirecompletelly, then solder/heatshrink on a new one to bolt on.

Dont try to reattach the busted connector you have on now, it will never work right.

Had I the money, I'd go riding with you.
I hear there's a lot of good off roading out here.
I just don't have a dirt bike.
>>
>>17627178
The front range isn't the greatest, I have to haul my shit 2 hours for decent riding.

It's very much worth it though.
>>
Went out on my first ride yesterday night. I borrowed my mums Marauder 250. Just spent an hour practicing proper signaling / turning / gearing up and down. Also spent some time around traffic, getting a feel for watching my mirrors and shoulder checking whenever I move between lanes / stop at an intersection.
Bike is low on power, but weighs very little. I had a blast and now I really want to get my own bike now.
tl;dr what they say is true, riding is addictive. And I want more.
>>
>>17627187
Somewhat new to the area.
Out in COS.
I keep wanting to get a dirtbike, but I always seem to have more important things to spend money on.
Used to live up in washington and loved it up there. Take a weekend, camp out and ride.

I'm thinking about getting a motorcycle, but how do you start learning? It's not like everyone can pull a trailer with their bike to some training center.
I know, at least for my State, you need to pass the knowledge test and then you get a permit that allows you to ride alone during the day and you aren't allowed on the highway. But that first time riding... what are you supposed to do? I would love some nice empty parking lot but you would need to know someone who could drive your bike there it seems.
Also... how often do motorcycles get stolen? It seems like it would be a lot easier to jack one than a car.
>>
At what rpms does v Tec kick in?
>>
>>17627204
All the good riding is relatively close to COS. I pretty much have to drive through COS to get to any of the good spots.

Get a dirt bike.

Take a class. Couple hundred bucks and a weekend. It's mandatory in Mass, idk about your state, but do it anyway. They teach you how to ride a bike, they provide the bikes for the training exercises. I recommend it to friends even if they don't want to buy a motorcycle, just so they can ride one if they absolutely had to and it's FUN.

It's important to note though that the class only trains you to go like 15 mph in a parking lot. You still need to practice in parking lots and on back roads. Just don't push your limits.

Google around for classes. It's fun, you won't regret it.

I was going to grab my dads old cr500 and fix it, but two days before I got home last month, he gave it away.
Dirtbikes are much more expensive than they aught to be.
And I spose I'd have to buy proper gear. Which might end up being more expensive than the bike I get.

Man, those are idiots being idiots. Try watching some MotoVloggers, like Do It With Dan, Jake the Garden Snake, ChaseOnTwoWheels, there's a bunch. Some ride like idiots sometimes, but most are pretty cool and talk about riding quite a bit. If you're smart about it and don't ride drunk, the risk is manageable.

Got my license and bike three years ago, it's a lot of fun. Pic related, it's the kind of bike I have. Good fun, would recommend.
>>
>>17627291
There's plenty of decent bikes out there (I just searched Denver briefly) for under $2000. What are you looking for?
>>
>>17627308
A lot of those are people being idiots, but some of those can't be helped... like what do you do if you're forced to ride over some gravel? It seems like anything can knock you down and that cars don't see you. I just wanted to take the backroads to work and save on gas and feel a little bit more free.
>>
>>17627311
Honestly, I'd love something like a CR500, cause that's what I learned on.
I also used to have and xr600 years ago. Heard that the guy I sold it to is just letting it sit in his garage, kinda sad.
But I think anything dirtbike 250 and up I'd settle for.
But this wouldn't be for a few months, I'd have save up some.

Gravel can be scary, but there's a lot of things you can do to learn to ride safely. People ride on dirt and gravel all the time and stay upright.

There are two books I bought and read before I bought my bike, I think they gave me a good sense of what to do:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0965045021/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/Proficient-Motorcycling-Ultimate-Guide-Riding/dp/1620081199/ref=pd_sim_14_4?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=1620081199&pd_rd_r=FB9VJ0DQCPC4JAFWB03H&pd_rd_w=B3WAZ&pd_rd_wg=rRkDv&psc=1&refRID=FB9VJ0DQCPC4JAFWB03H

Yes, 100%. Good control is more important the slower you're going. Going fast straight is the easiest thing to do on a motorcycle

If you wear proper gear ALWAYS and ride smart, it's a lot of fun. I love it because all I do when I ride is focusing on riding. No music, just you and the wind and the engine. It's beautiful and fun and is like nothing else.

It isn't terribly cheap but $300 isn't bad compared to what you're gonna be spending on gear and a bike if you're a brand new rider.

No. 2 wheeled vehicles turn by leaning, mechanically 2 wheeled vehicles lean by pointing the front wheel to the outside to shift the center of gravity relative to the contact patch so they start falling over then follow the curve by turning the front wheel to the inside. Turn further and you lever the bike back up.

Think about how when you're going really slow (or even stopped) and the bike gets wobbly you turn the handlebars to hold it up, it's the same dynamics at play.
>>

I dropped mine the first time I rode it, but it was when I was stopped. I did not anticipate how heavy the bike is full, and I stopped on an angle on a hill and the bike just slowly started tipping on me. I laid it down gently then picked it back up, nbd.

False neutrals happen pretty frequently. Not a big deal just shift again. Happens mostly when you're downshifting from 2 to 1 since N is a half shift in between 2 and 1, and if you don't give it enough pressure you can end up in neutral.

not him, but tbf the highest speed limit in my area is 55mph, and the highest speed in my state is 65mph, so it doesn't really say anything to the safety of the roads, more to the state wanting to tax anyone they feel like.

>>17628152
meh. I understand the sentiment, but this road is 55 for no good damn reason. Runs along the river, super straight, no intersections or junctions, it just gets classified as a 55 mph because they don't want to pay for concrete center divider (or a median of the required width).

ATGATT
>>
>>17628367
I'm super new actually.
I barely got my permit yesterday!

Don't worry, I won't corner super fast, kinda afraid to.

>>17628368
>ATGATT

Yeah, I don't have knee/elbow pads yet but I do have a jacket and some thick jeans and a pair of gloves. Of course a helmet.
I know its not much but I won't be going super fast or in super populated places.
>>
>>17628372
Go to a set of back roads or a car park or whatever and practice all the shit you learned in your permit course.
- Starting and stopping
- Emergency braking
- Slow (walking speed) rides
- Find out what it takes to stall the bike from a standing stop so you know how much throttle you need to give it, etc.
And yeah you do you, but I'm a huge advocate for ATGATT. "Thick" jeans are still going to disintegrate in a matter of meters at low speed, and even a 5mph fall has the chance to trap your foot between the road and your bike. I'm happy that in two years of riding I haven't stacked it or dropped it, but the closest I've come was nearly dropping it in a driveway, and putting a foot down at a stop sign on something super slippery. Just remember that low speed stuff has the potential to put the bike down as much as anything else.

Congrats on bike btw! What are you getting?
>>
>>17628404

Was tracking down the cause of my headlights not firing yesterday morning. Previous owner installed HID headlights. Found the culprit. The fuse that's between the small gauge positive cable connected to the battery and the larger gauge wire that goes to the relay was melted.

Replaced the fuse and it works perfect. I had to jump my bike using a jumper box the other day when Ieft the key in/headlight on. Problems started after that. Could that have melted the fuse?

Glad I had an excuse to take it apart the previous owner had the wires routed in really stupid fashion.

ive decided that road racing is too dangerous for me and i seriously just want to take it to the track. ive sold my current bikes (scmr 690 and z750) and im gonna buy a low mileage zx10r/ s1000rr / rsv4 for the track.

my question is, is there a list or something i can see of all the stuff i should get for a well performing "amateur" track bike?

so far im going to purchase:
-full exhaust kit
-plastic fairings
-mappings etc
-obviously slick tires
-MAYBE suspension, im still looking at if i get an hp4 or rsv4 rr with öhlins in them already
-radiator covers
-brake lever guards
-(rearsets i will keep stock, levers maybe too depending on feel)
-race windshield

also where can i get fancy graphics made for my plastic fairings? im really digging the wsbk look with the headlight stickers.

1. Remove left passenger footpeg
2. Remove left footpeg screw [probably referring to the rider's footpeg]
3. Attach additional plate [for the rearsets?] to footpeg bracket using original screw
- Attention! Use Loctite -
4. Attach left passenger footpeg to bracket
5. Replace original screws [the ones that aren't screwed in yet] with No 6 and No 7, add spacer No 5 to top screw
6. On the right side, remove front screw on the lower frame strut and footpeg screw
7. Slide left side of center stand onto guiding peg from the inside and slide right mounting plate onto guiding peg from the right [I am not sure if guiding peg is the correct word]
8. Attach right mounting plate to footpeg bracket using screws No 8 and No 9.
- use loctite -
9. Attach to lower frame strut using No's 4, 8 and 10.
10. Attach spring (No 11) to upper spring socket
11. Using pliers, attach spring to center stand
12. Make sure everything is right and works as expected.

Don't you have pictures to go with the instructions? In any case, how hars can jt be to retrofit a center stand kit?

cold oil change or hot oil change?

I've heard reasons for both, hot oil change loosens gunk up through out the motor before draining, while a cold oil change more of the oil is in the pan so you get more of the old oil out.

Warm oil change. Ride until hot, let it sit for 10 minutes. That way most of the oil will flow into the pan and what little is left won't have a negarice impact on further operation.

passed my test last week and against all advice bought a cbr600rr.

have to say it's way nicer than expected.

the ergonomics are not nearly as bad as people made out, I'm 6'2" and if i slide right up against the tank im pretty damn upright, i probably look like a cunt but at least it's comfortable, even after hours of riding. Only thing that sucks is 2mph crawling traffic. the bike is thic too, I get stuck behind small gaps when filtering that scooters and skinnier bikes slip straight through.

the bike handles beautifully, anything above 10mph feels super light and agile. compared to the 650 twin I took my test on it's a way smoother ride, the low down torque on the 650 was insane, I honestly feel like my 600 is more forgiving in that regard.

tl;dr dont be a lil bitch, 600s are np.
