I have multiple bikes that were over $300. It is similar to the difference between a $13k new car and a $40k new car. For the most part, the more expensive ones are nicer to use and built better.

I work with bike patrol currently. Every day, hundreds of cyclists tour the downhill tracks, bike park, jump lines, mountain trails and whatnot, with skill and equipment ranging from someone who biked to work when they were 16 and is on a stiff-frame lady bike on bald tires, to a professional athlete on his $9 000 Cannondale

Trust me - I've seen stupid shit. Nobody has lost a toe yet, but we've had handlebars take chunks outta people (why they didn't have rubber protection is beyond me), snapped frame that made a 5 inch deep cut in the thigh (thankfully no major artery), and even a guy with two broken ankles because he used those click-lock pedal things and they didn't release when he crashed

I love it so far. With SLX brakes on 203f/185r rotors, a 32t chainring, and an 11-34t 9-speed cassette, it rips at bike parks but I can still trail ride it. I want to run a dropper on it, but the 30.0 seattube makes it hard. I'll need to shim a 27.2 to fit.
