There's alot of variables to consider when changing gear ratios.

rpm, transmission gearing, torque, oem rear gear ratio.

Gear too low and you can overwork the trans, too high and you'll lose torque

Ideally for a high torque low rpm v8 you'd want something in the area of high 3's - 4.10, high rpm v8 4.10 - 4.30.

Low torque high rpm 4 cylinder, 4.30 - 4.8.
