Yes! Binders! Have 1 now, used to have 2! GettinG another soon! Pic is what body style my current one is, but mine is way more rough. It's got the I6 and 3 speed manual on the column. It's a 64 C1100. Factory 4wd with a divorced transfercase and Dana 60s underneath.

Just got it running right yesterday, front end aligned today. Had a bit of rust clogging the petcock at the bottom of the tank.

Fun trucks, but even with the front end right it's all over the place over 45mph. Probably the mud tires on it. They're old, the thing is from Alaska. Lived all its life up there on dirt roads.

This truck belonged to my great grandfather, he bought it new in 1952. We even found the original bill of sale while cleaning out my grandmother's house after she died. Last plated in 1974 and it's just been sitting there on the farm ever since. I got the ownership transferred over to me and I'm hoping to slowly get it up and running again.

>>17555171
It's a great backdrop for pictures, I took some of his old Model A before it got sold a few years back. Makes me wish I lived out there.

Welp, my gf went back to Houston to look for a job today. Might be the right time to break up, not sure we were ever perfect for each other, but we've had a lot of fun. Hate to think someday I might be nobody to her... don't forget to like and subscribe to my blog

/o/ related, I replaced the sparkies and plug wires on my sweptline but the miss is still there. If anything it's worse, I can feel it a tiny bit when first shifting into 2nd, whereas before it was only when shifting into 3rd (under the greatest load). Tomorrow I'll try new cap and rotor and see if that fixes it. If not I probably have to hunt for a vacuum leak, lash the valves etc. Maybe electronic ignition.

Gotta rant. I picked up the 53 on Saturday, and the days before hand the guy was talking about all the work he had done to it (including new brake shoes and wheel cylinder that week), how there was no rust, and the locks worked.

Come today, get it up on the lift; LF brake doesn't work at all, RF shoes are destroyed, and the rears, though good, are clearly dated. Also found rusted bottom of the door, and other areas. Still have yet to get the locks to work.

But, I changed the oil, ordered new brake parts, and cut off the exhaust, so I've got that going.

I'm starting to wonder if its worth the time and money to fix this car up... mechanically its sound, but it needs a lot of minor things, interior/body work... And even if i fix everything up, it's a car that I can only drive at 55mph...
>>
If you where not willing to work with it why'd you buy it?
>>
Got told by one of the mechanics that works at the place I dropped my falcon off at that he saw that they got the blinkers to work when he walked past it, but it still need to be tested buy the owner etcs, finally happy to get some news on it.

Out in the open, no time to make a booth, I have places to go! I'm pretty good with a can of paint. Ppl always have me spray their cars or trucks. This is what the rear looked like prior.
>>
>>17555591
Timing advanced too much? Maybe it can't retard it enough when under load. A vacuum leak wouldn't necessarily make it miss, but have a stupid high idle.
Also sorry about your girl :( I miss my girl from 4 years ago, the one that got away.
>>
>>17555770
I know, easy mode... but i was hoping to have something a bit classier.... granted its gonna have plywood door pannels and rattle can paint...

I ordered the parts for the brakes. So once those are fixed, gas tank is hooked up, and the glass is replaced, maybe it'll just be cheap shit. I'm thinking some rust killer on the rust, and try to fiberglass over it. I can't weld, so i wondering how to fix the fender corner..
>>
>>17557464
Fiberglass or bondo if you must. Although I'd find a fab shop that could do it for you, the welding that is.

Gonna install a battery kill switch in the dash of my Fury because it's got some kind of intermittent draw. I've seen some fancy wiring diagrams that disconnect the alternator before killing the circuit, but I think I'm just gonna run battery cables directly from the negative terminal to the switch

Thinking about buying this.
Don't know anything about it other than it runs great, and it's obviously a 70-72 long bed. I really hope it's a 300 six because that's what I'm in the market for. If it's a good deal I'll go take a look at it but it is over half an hour away.
Only listed for a grand, thinking I'd offer 800 but still happily take it for 1000. Thoughts?
>>
>>17558596
is it just a block or does it need rebuilt? I'm on a budget of $4,000 and I don't think I'll be able to afford the machine work if it hasn't been done already or enough for the parts to build it.

Currently have some 27x15 dry rotted tires. Should I spend the money now to get some good white walls while I continue to fix up the car but could mess them up, or get a new set of 24x15s for 100 bucks And just get the white walls after the car is finished.

Just worried the 24s will look way to small on the car?
>>
>>17559204
Half an hour? Damn thats far.... shit, if it runs, drives, and stops, and the corners arent gone, 1k is a steal.
>>
>>17559240
Of get the white walls. It would look bad ass. They are easy to take care of. I have white letter tires on my truck and there is a cleaner that brings them back to life.
>>
>>17559213

>>
>>17559240

dont buy new tires until youre ready for them. Tires have a shelf life so if your project drags on for years youre just throwing away money, and like you said you can fuck up the tires by accident. I bought new tires for my project car and a month later I accidentally caught a trash can on fire in my garage. Walked in and saw a burning trash can and a couple tread blocks on one of my tires were on fire.

Built 350 engine with the Turbo 350 transmission. Some other small mods, but mostly stock. Still has shit brakes, shit suspension, and the interior is in a constant state of being worked on. It's got a Berlinetta trim package but instead of the shit factory 305 it's got a built 350 instead.
>>
>>17559352

>>
>>17559251

>>
>>17559209
Machine work should not cost you anywhere near 4k, I just sent in a bad 400 and it cost me 500$
Rebuild kits from ames performance or summit cost like 700$.
Just be smart about your money 4k should be able to get you far.
>>
>>17559410
Are you going to be driving the car at all? Maybe it's my experience in a shitty town but used tire places don't do warranty here and I've had ones that stopped holding air within a month. I don't replace tires that hold air anymore unless I'm getting new ones

I want a 300 so bad but this seems difficult to pass up. My sister has a lifted '76 with a 360 that just threw a rod right through the block and it's getting a fresh 390 soon, so it's hard not to associate the 360 with that lol

>>
>>17559820
Plus a 360 is hardly better lol. There comes a point where slow is just slow and it doesn't matter how much slower something is. Until you get into can't-even-make-it-to-70 territory. Slow is part of the charm of these old trucks.

Unless you built the fuck out of it, it won't sound badass. And if you build the fuck out of it, it won't be reliable.

They're reliable engines, but god damn man, you don't need to be a speed fiend to be underwhelmed. Mine ran 22.9 @ 59mph at bandimere.

That's painful. 360 would be a better motor.
>>
>>17559852
Meh, I personally love the sound of the 300 totally straight piped and maybe with the right headers. I'm just getting an old Ford to cruise around in anyhow, I have a different truck for actually getting used and going places with
>>
>>17559866
I feel that my man. Personally, I'm not a fan after 3 years of this motor. American vehicles deserve a V8 in my book
>>
>>17559898
I've always been of the same mindset but have made an exception for the 300. It'd be cool for me to have a straight six that's bigger than one of my V8s too lol

Thanks. I'm a fan of yours. Love the W/T grill and I just like 2WD regular cab longbeds.
Dad had an 88 that looked like yours but white with a 350 and 700R4. He sold it with over 500k miles on it.

He sold it because it was on its last leg and he didn't wanna be stuck with a truck with a blown 6.5 as a young dude with no money.

If the clicking happens with them on, it's a tiny pebble in the hubcap. I've had the clicking before. It can get trapped by the inner lip and not come out easily.

Dang, pretty cool. Send all the rust free stuff to northern Illinois. I could use it. But the 400s are plentiful. It's just harder to stand out from them. All the farm kids have them, and I live in the country but don't farm. We are a hot rod family, but I got dads old truck haha. So it's just going to be a mild 350 for now until I get a new bed and can get at the fuel tank easily.
>>
>>17562119
I swear there's more GMT400s on the road than any other truck. As someone who likes to stand out and have quirky things but also someone who likes parts availability and practicality, it's a blessing and a curse. Don't think there's a junkyard in America that isn't filled with them and parts for them.
I was gonna put a 5.3 or 6.0 LS in my truck but decided against it because I don't want the crate motor going to waste but I also don't wanna sell it. I've also thought I could try ripping the TBI off of it and going for a carb because I hate computers and I wanna make serious power lol, even though TBI motors can make power and I know how to make em make power. But shit the truck is just so stupidly reliable I wouldn't wanna ruin that either. Who knows. More likely than anything I'll just find a beat to hell regular cab shortbed 2WD that's a good candidate for an LS swapped sleeper. The more vehicles the better anyhow.

would this be a good deal for a summer car? i'm thinking about offering 5k, and potentially going up to 5.5k.

i just found out that he has it listed on ebay with a buy it now of 5900 so i'm pretty sure that 5.5k would take it if 5k doesn't.

Get pictures. I'm a miatafag but I can appreciate classic trucks. Pic related is my dad's 70s powerwagon after a tree fell on it.
I drove it around after cutting the tree from around it, perfectly fine. After we removed the log, my dad continues to drive it on the highway. Drives just like it used to, no pull to one direction or anything weird going on.
Old trucks were brick shithouses.
>>
>>17562299
I love old pickups as it's completely where my love for cars started.
Coincidentally, just bought a 93 Miata that someone used for autocross that I will also be using for autocross. Thing is a blast. Would post pics and say more but don't wanna derail this fine thread.

Welp I've had another one of the slant-6 experiences: pouring rain fucking with the distributor! I had to start the engine almost ten times to get out of that intersection
>>
>>17567191
It actually wasn't very clean. All the body seams were rusted through. Bed was rusted through. I blew the transmission and it sat for several years. I ended up stripping it and parting it out then hauling the rusted shell off for scrap. It sucked and it was tough, but it had to go. I couldn't sell it, it was taking up space, and it was just done for. Rust bucket that had a lifetime of hack work that wasn't worth undoing.

But it got me started learning and got me into cars. I sold the engine and all the accessories and a bunch of extra stuff to an Australian guy who was restoring a mustang back home. I guess he was having trouble procuring a 289 down under.

If you feel like keeping it Mopar it can get pretty wack even though the entire principal of it is basic. Chrysler did some funky stuff (like still using a fucking ammeter)

HEI is the best system and here's how to convert:
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15779

If you want a quick fix though, you can do what I'm doing, which is installing Pertronix electronic ignition designed for the /6. Slots right in to your distributor. If you buy their ignition coil as well you can bypass the ballast resistor for better performance. Amazon:

All the electros go through the ammeter in your dash and so if you run a lot of accessories it'll burn out and your car will stop working. It's a pain in the ass and a voltmeter is better in every way.

so, would pic related be a good deal for ~$2200? My uncle bought it for whatever reason and doesn't want it anymore. 79 F150 2wd with the 300 i6/3-speed auto. I'm driving it for right now since my jeep's water pump decided to go nuclear, and while its damn near a road hazard with how slow it is, its comfy as fuck to drive for reasons I can't explain. Drivetrain is all original with only ~30,000 miles on the motor and tranny (was a one owner truck). only downside is the PO repainted it with implement paint and he did a real shit job prepping so its starting to flake off in places. also 2wd with no weight on the ass so shit in winter.

Pulled the front brakes apart to throw in new cylinders and shoes, but confirmed a hose was all clogged up. Looks like its gonna stay on the lift for a few days. Been scraping off dirt/clay from the bottom and so far the car seems to be very solid.

On another note, doubt itll ever look nice with my budget and abilities so i guess itll be more rat rod like.

Im thinking of welding on some tabs for a pad lock instead of replacing the door locks. Thoughts?

Waiting for the baby moons to come in.

In other news, one of the cruise in buddies who recently bought a 67 SS basket case checked out my 67 tonight. I went aside with him and told him what I paid, he got this look on his face and whispered "I could put $10,000 in my 67 and it wouldn't be near yours. You fucking stole this".

So, that felt pretty good. I'm going to sell my spare front fenders to him since I don't need them. His car needs literally everything. 10 year project.

I am about to buy another modern car. So far the only features that I don't like that it will have are
>TPMS
>Traction control
>stability control

Thankfully it doesn't have gps and any of that other outdated shit. Just an aux port, good stereo and bluetooth. The things I have "modernized" my truck with are the only things that matter to me, the things I use to make the driving experience better which are stereo and eventually performance (brakes, engine, suspension). I don't like how modern cars are trying to be smartphones, I have a smartphone for that.

Can you please give me a quick rundown on classic mopar, specifically the charger and challenger? The prices seem outrageous but I'm wondering if finding a nice clean body to drop an engine and trans into is still something one can do without spending over say, 20k.
>>
>>17575488

Buddy of mine has this 69 Charger for sale. Numbers matching 383 and transmission. Needs literally everything but the doors.

He'd take $3000 for it.

I bet you could have it on the road under 10k, but if you wanted a show room resto, you're looking at 20-30 over the course of 15 years.

Just test drove this animal. Fun as fuck but really screams if you push it to 70, probably gets 10mpg tops. 3.73 gears. But it's mint inside and out, AC blows cold, automatic, and it's mad comfy/spacious. Kind of torn between this and the Celica I posted earlier. Not classic related, but tonight I started ripping my brother in laws Lotus apart to change...drum roll...the blower motor...
>>
Correct me if I'm wrong: if I'm running rich, all the plugs should be at least a little fouled; if it's a weak spark issue (at specific cylinders due to worn points/cap/wires) then only some plugs will be fouled, correct? 2 plugs were heavily fouled, 2 were partially fouled and 2 were perfect. By fouled I mean had a lot of carbon deposits covering the electrodes. My assumption comes from the fact that you can have varying hotness of spark in each cylinders due to faulty hardware but you can't have unevenly distributed fuel richness (?)
>>
>>17586437
Funny, at the local shop recently I was helping some poor bastard rip apart his entire dashboard just to reach the blower assembly. Never got to it
>>
>>17586521
As far as the plugs go, you may be correct but I don't remember exactly. As far as spark and fuel distribution, you are correct. However, you can have uneven fuel distribution on an efi motor with individual injectors for each cylinder.
