Is the old tenere from the early 90s a good first bike?
This one has over 80000 km on it but the entire engine got rebuilt 10000 km ago and it went through inspection without any problems.

I read that coolant isn't supposed to vanish out of its system but it seems that I'm running low. Does my bike have bigger underlying issues? I think it's been ~2 years and about 12000km since its been last changed.

Silicate free OAT coolant was recommended, but I truly have no idea if those are the only requirements.

Where I live they are priced a lot better than the other japs. Gsxr750 cheaper by thousands compared to cbr600, Street triple, r6 etc. I've owned 4 Suzuki's and never had any mechanical problems ever. Not even on a gsxr I had from 60,000ks to 120,000.

https://cosprings.craigslist.org/mcy/d/buddy-scooter/6215305474.html

I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread/board for this.

I totaled my car and need a mode of transportation for a few months while I save up for another. I'm considering these two listings. Which one would be better?

The buddy has about 5k miles and I've generally heard good things about the model. The Hobbit claims to be fairly new(stored most of its life) but I'm worried about the availability of parts on an older vehicle. Would this not be an issue given the popularity of Hondas?

In the backcountry out north of Mimbres. That picture is from some ramshackle store on... NM35? That lake is, if I recall correctly, alongside a dirt/gravel road I drove my Miata down. I eventually got back to a dirt road that connected to 35 and I had to stand on top of the trunk while I was on a ridgeline to get enough signal to get a map to load so I could figure out where the hell I ended up.

>>
>>17536358
Yep! That is the one! I saw a cyclist on those curves; that was the most bizarre part of that trip. I did that route on day 1, and I think I went the opposite direction you did. I overnighted in Silver City, then drove up to Mogollon and out into that backcountry. After breaking part of my intercooler mount, I eventually made it up to Apache Creek or Aragon, then drove home. What did you think of that area?
>>
What do you do if you bring your bike to a shop to get a problem fixed, they spend 4 hours trying to find it, and can't ever source it?

Do you pay the full 4 hours for essentially nothing?
>>
>>17536428
You bring a big case of good beer back to the shop area, sit with them, and try to figure out what the fuck is going on with it.
>>
>>17536428
You can avoid this problem by working on it yourself.

That's funny, right after I got on that road, probably 11am, I saw a cyclist with a bunch of bags on the bike like he was gonna camp up there or something. A couple parts of that must have been interesting in the Miats kek. I really like it up there, some really nice views and a good escape from the heat.

I'm pretty sure that trip is what caused a baffle or something to rattle when the car is cold and it is cold out; probably knocked the cat or muffler a dozen too many times. It was interesting but fun nevertheless. I liked it out there because it was cooler, quiet, and the views from some of the ridgeline and in the valleys were awesome.

Welp I got to go back inside the windowless hole; talk to you later m8!

Back from a few weeks ago with my firstbike Bridgestone Mach II RS. Replaced ignition points, condensers, handlebars, grips, throttle tube, levers, headlight, front brake cable, battery, part of the wiring harness, and cleaned the right side carburetor and it runs like a champ. For less than 300 bucks this thing is, as predicted, hectik. On 45 year old tires 90mph is very scary.
>>
>>17536440
I've gone as far as I can on my own, no idea what the problem is and my bike is pretty new and complicated so I don't want to take the engine apart to try to source it.

Mechanic said he's 90% sure he'll find the problem within an hour but I've done pretty much all the simply stuff to no avail so I kind of have my doubts. Next step for me was going into the engine but that's a bit over my head tbqh.
>>
>>17536428
They aren't going to just look for 4 hours and then hand you a bill for nothing. They will call you to ask you to authorize more time if it goes beyond 1 hour.

How is the monster? I love their aesthetics and would like a full size bike to actually get places, all I have right now is a Grom that can reach 80mph but it's a non-stop battle with wind and everything else at that speed. Been looming at the monster 821.

Not him but I had an old 750 Monster for a few weeks, it was a nice bike that I wouldn't have minded keeping, comfy, handled well, not super fast but you never really wished you had more power. I imagine the 821 would be similar but better.

Can't talk about any other monster other than the 750. The 750s are sort of a cult classic, it was a great motor that was forgiving as all hell. Literally the bike I learned how to ride on. It's impossible to stall it and the ergonomics make it just a blast to ride. Not that I would recommend or condone it, but the monsters of that generation (only ones I've ridden) are literally the bike you want to ride drunk. They are dumbby proof, it handles like a bicycle and is stupid easy to ride. It would make a great commuter as it's low stress and after a hard day's work not something you need to "tame". That being said it's not a speed demon. 5 gears, it'll get past 80 but it's screaming. It likes to cruise at 70. Fastest I got mine was mid 90s. I doubt unless you were going downhill or on a long flat you could maintain triple digits.

How this applies to other monsters? It may or may not be relevant, don't expect a highway cruiser, it's more of a city bike. That being said I rode that m750 from San Fran to Seattle with a backpack and shit strapped to the back and I'm alive and enjoyed the trip.

Need advice. I fucked up when I bought my first bike. Paid 6k out the door for a ninja 650. Realized very recently I really wanted a dual sport but got excited about the idea of buying a bike and am now in debt on the Ninja. Still owe about 5000 on the Ninja and figure I wont make that back in trade in or private sale as it's been dropped. How do I get rid of this bike without going even deeper into debt so I can get the dual sport I want? I know I know... It's impossible.

That'd be a badass first bike. That's one of my dream bikes, they didn't come to the US. That's a lot of miles and on an old bike but I've heard those 600's are pretty tough. The heads on air cooled bikes like to overheat though but if it made it that far...must be a good design. If it's the right price, I think it'd make a good first bike. Good amount of power but not enough to take you by surprise.

Alternatively, does anyone know of any good audio systems that plug into just a plain headphone jack that I can stick in a helmet? Turns out mine has cutouts around the ears and I'd probably get away with putting speakers there. That should do fine with the ear plugs I currently use to keep the howling wind demon out.

What are you rocking for long distance trips, anons?
>>
>>17538015
I just used earplugs and took in the views
>>
>>17538015
SENAs are great but nothing will ever sound as good as earbuds, and those you linked will sound like shit. There's nothing wrong with earbuds while riding imo, all you actually need to hear are sirens.

I use Moldex 6800s, the best earplugs money can buy, and my Sena on max volume and just deal with the majority quality because it's convenient.
>>
>>17538030
My only problem with Sena is that unless I buy used, it will likely be expensive. And I'm probably not going to use the headset to call people unless I'm like ordering a pizza on the way home from work. If I could find an old model, maybe a place has it available for cheap. That would be fine. I'm talking under a hundred, preferably 50-75 dollars if possible.
>>17538028
On most trips that would be the case. However I've got friends who are going to do the normie cager route on the regular highways instead of the back roads. That means no sightseeing from one side of the GTA to the other. Get the fuck out of there as fast as possible.
>>

It's a far cry from the shitty single cylinder CBR250R, that's for sure. Just the fact that Honda gave it a twin when they could have kept a mono goes a long way.

Although it probably doesn't hold a candle to the 20000 rpm inline 4 250RR of the 90s.

Does your bike have a choke?
>>
>>17538544
yes it does, but i checked if it was on and it wasnt, also it drove normally just the idle was fkd
>>
>>17538548

Just adjust your idle screw on the carb and get it back to normal if it persists.
>>
>>17538555
but how would it have done that by it selv on the road? lol
>>
>>17538557
If you ignore it, maybe it will go away.
>>
>>17538558
lol, ill try adjusting the idle and see if it comes again
>>
>>17538557

Dunno, idle screw might have shook loose, maybe your throttle spider or throttle cable are a bit sticky and holding the throttle constantly open slightly. Just go through the whole throttle system to the carb and see if you can find the cause.
>>
>>17538561
oh yah i actualy noticed the throttle was kinda slow to get back to idle when i revved it
>>
>>17538474
>is this a Malick movie?
Kek. Looks like it.
>>
>>17538562

That's probably it then, might be worth getting a new throttle cable.
>>
>>17538542
dont care
>>
>>17538562
>>17538569

Also check your throttle spider is properly lubricated, if it's not the cable it'll be the spider. Just make sure all the moving parts of your throttle are well lubricated.
>>
>>17538572
aite ill watch some vids on how to do that and then get to work :)
thanks

>>

well it snaps fine back in to place, so gotta be in the carb
>>
>>17538582

But you said that it's slow to snap back into place before?
>>
>>17538583
oh sorry what i ment was, if it rev it up to lets say 4k its kinda slow to settle down to idle rpms again
>>
That still sounds like your throttle isn't fully closing, Check to see if the pulley on the throttle body is closing fully, if it is then you just need to adjust your idle screw, if not, lubricate your throttle cable and the pulley itself.
>>
>>17538589

For >>17538585
>>
>>17538591
yah im thinking, cos we just had the carbs off because i rounded a screw in it, so when we were putting it back together maybe we tightnet the throttle cable too much on the carb

it might be running a bit lean. Check if the whole intake system is airtight.
You can check it either visually or:
>let bike idle
>grab starter spry (if you dont have, use brake cleaner or anything that will burn easily)
> spray a bit (not to much, you dont want to burn your bike down) on (not in) the intake system
>spray on any hose etc
>if bike revs up, the bike gets false air
>>
>>17538597
and then if it revs up its cracks in the intake manifold right?

either cracks or it its not assembled right. If some hose clamps of whatever is loose it also gets false air / leak air (I don't know if that is the correct translation)

Brakes are ezpz. Haven't done chain before and I didn't trust the old one enough to go home anymore, much less ride around Berlin to get a new one, then back to the garage to change it. Better to pay for the convenience of getting it done in this case. I'm all for saving money and doing things yourself but this thing I didn't want to do.
I also don't do fork oil changes myself, fuck that noise. Regular oil changes, no problemo.

I think I know why I have been given a pass....

I crashed the bike on the test, but had absolutely no idea why. Everything was going fine, I was riding perfectly, not a single mistake. Then at a junction, the bike went from underneath me. Examiner also didn't know why. He had to terminate the test and I was ok enough to ride pillion on his bike back to the test centre, the bike I was using was pretty badly binned.

He never actually gave me a pass certificate, but never said I'd failed either. I guess he was satisfied that I rode safely, and the crash was just completely out of my control.

That's what I am thinking.

Its funny because the examiner even asked me why the heck am I doing my A1 license after I passed.
>>
>>17539185
