Not difficult to understand, is it?

You memorize the position of the numbers on the gauge and can tell how fast you're going by glancing at where the needle is.
>>
>>17457823
but also you have a better idea of the rate of change of the needle. you'd have to look at the numbers for a very long time, but at a glance you can estimate the current rate of acceleration with a needle
>>
>>17457823
I guess it makes sense but it's not something I use.
>>

>>17457807
I have found the solution.
>>
>>17457823
A derivative is a rate of change, so I guess he's talking about how you can tell how fast you're accelerating or how fast revs are climbing by glancing at how fast the needles are moving. You can't really do that with digital displays since you can't follow movement of printed numbers.
>>
>>17457836
That's useless though.
>>
>>17457823
Or you could just look at the numbers on the digital display..

Besides, just look at the revs and what gear you're in you should be able to tell how fast you're going
>>
>>17457822
>used it to commute
>selling it because he ran out of time to ride it

It's hard to tell him this picture, but my Forks or my wheel is misaligned. The forks and handlebars are line of the straightest possible with the frame and If you look at the fender, it's actually straight with the forks and you can see that the wheel is slightly off-kilter with it. When I'm riding straight the forks are a little cockeyed but there's no vibration or wobble. Is there any way to fix this or am I just going to have to replace it or live with it?
>>
>>17457836
The rev counter on my SV650 is digital but its like a bar graph thing, you can tell how quickly it revs. It's the same thing.

Any thoughts about this 2012 FZ6R?

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/mcy/6194464842.html

I have experience riding a 500cc sport bike, but it's just too old and unreliable to deal with anymore.

Also been looking at this 2004 CBR600 F4i: https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/6169323575.html

I just need a reliable bike. I'm having a hard time finding an appropriate vehicle for me in or around my area (626).
>>
You judge RPM by sound and vibrations. The only speed limit you need is how fast you can take the next corner.

Yeah, those points are what I've gathered from my research. I'd be asking about $2850 for one of them, which would be easier for me to handle financially. In the end, I just want to ride without constant worry already.

>>17457906
I figured it was overpriced. It comes with gear, and is in seemingly great condition, but you're right.

My current bike has been a nightmare. It eats up gas and has an extensive history of constant bullshit that continues to harass and haunt me to this day. I just want to sell it to an enthusiast and never see it again.

There's not much I can find in my area that isn't garbage. Why doesn't God want me to ride?

>>
>>17458038
It all likely does fit me, assuming it's a large (maybe medium) helm and medium vest. That's a heavy lowball on the F4i though, considering his asking price. Even being posted 3 weeks ago, I doubt he'd bite. It's too far to offer that in person too, so I'd have to offer over text.

>>17458041
>2005

That makes more sense now. At least you get to ride without constant fear of internal fuckery, though.

I just don't want to pay dealer pricing/fees. I need to save money right now, but don't want an unreliable shitbike from another millennium either.

Iowa has distinct seasons. No mountains, but it has more hills than people think. The problem is that the people who "built" the state only thought of chopping everything into squares instead of having roads follow natural contours. There are still some really pretty places here, though.

So I had a particularly gnarly psychedelic trip the other day (LSD) and I really started to think about my motorcycle. I eventually came to the conclusion that a sport bike is the closest thing humans will ever get to a jetpack-like device. If you think about it objectively, you suddenly realize how futuristic and almost comic-book-like the notion is. You take this fucking rocket and stick it between your legs and you can go anywhere you want. Now add the bonus of being the fastest street legal production vehicle on the fucking planet..

Really makes you think.

>>
>>17459711

How are you supposed to own a motorcycle then?

Go ride the instructors motorcycle every once in a while until you pass the exam? That's shit.
>>
>>17459711
I'll never get the logic behind learner plates. What's the fucking point of sending learners onto the road by themselves before any courses or tests? Isn't the entire purpose of a license to teach and test learners before they get to drive by themselves?
>>
>>17459718
What's the point of NOT being able to own a motorcycle and having to pass an exam with just a couple of hours riding some sort of riders school motorcycle that you have to rent for a couple of hours every week?
>>
>>17459717
Here you can't ride a bike without a licensed instructor before you have your license.
>>
>>17459720
So the guy just rides with you all the time?

That's shit.
>>
>>17459725
Yeah.

It's a bit shit, but he does teach you a lot.
>>
>>17459719
If the motorcycle is provided by the driving school it's guaranteed to be road safe. Also through mandatory lessons you'll also get schooling from a professional instead of having to teach yourself. With people teaching themselves you end up with god-awful drivers like the fucking burgers, canucks or aussies.
>>
>>17459732
All the vehicles in Switzerland ARE road safe. There's something called the MFK which checks the vehicles for any problems before you are even allowed to drive or ride them.
>>
>>17459737
no
>>
>>17459656
Only because the across can rev to fuck and back, while the NC is limited to 6k
If you shortshift it the cc difference will be massive
>>
>>17459737
So every time you get on your bike, you have to get the MFK involved?
>>
>>17459732
and, of course, the swiss
>>
>>17459737
But how are you going to get the bike to the inspections if you're not skilled enough or licensed to ride it yet? :^)

Also I'm pretty sure that driving school vehicles have a much shorter interval for inspections here in Germany, and having broken vehicles would hurt their business so it's in their interest to provide immaculate vehicles to their customers.

And the point about a qualified professional teaching you still stands.
>>
>>17459746
That's the job of the garage or seller.

Of course nobody is going to take a brand new KTM Duke with 0 kms to the MFK, but for used vehicles it's pretty much the standard.

Basically you have 4 months until you do the course required to extend the license to 12 months.

if my mind wasn't set on a sportbike as a second bike, I'd immediately buy one of the mid-sized ADV bikes that are on the market right now, like the F800GS or the Africa Twin

Would someone please give me, someone who thinks bikes look very pretty but has no measurable knowledge on them, a quick run down? Would be perfect if you could compare them to car brands. Racing bikes only, like Ducati and the Ninja I was told to love as a child.

Pic related. Love these

And I mean stuff like performance and handling for your buck. Cheers

Enjoy your garbage road handling just so you can go down a dirt road twice a year and pretend you're an adventuroous explorer.
>>
>>17459992
have you ever actually ridden an adv bike?
>>
>>17459992
>wide bars
>garbage handling

that's where you're wrong kiddo

the wider the bars, the easier it is to handle.
>>
>>17459821
wrong
>crash without crash bars
>rashed up fairings. No problem because fairings are all cosmetic.

>crash with crash bars/frame sliders
>all the impact is focused onto one point, cracking the frame and possibly the engine as well
>>
>>17459994
Anything with a 21 front will handle like shit on road

you've never crashed before have you?

More pressure on the contact patch.
>>
Can I escape my feelies if I do enough wheelies?
>>
>>17460014
because it is designed for road use. Weight is moot.
>>
>>17460017
And more weight for that contact patch to be kept from sliding.
>>
>>17460012
Shorter bikes CLEARLY give you better control, no doubt about it
Wide bars are run on dirtbikes and stuntbikes because they give you better leverage, which is needed when you're wading through mud or balancing 250kilos on your front wheel

>>17459970
because it is the very reason I bought a motorcycle in the first place

So, I could either get a CBR 600F4 without ABS or a Yamaha FZ6/Suzuki GSR600 with ABS

I want to spend around 3500€, and ABS is a really cool safety feature to have, but the CBR is such a sexy and fast bike

shit
>>
>>17460006
I don't think I'm entitled to it but why the fuck not try? I would gladly answer if it was the other way around. Move on with your life you sad, sad fuck.

>>17460013
Call me American again and I will do everything within my power to track you down and jab you with a flathead screwdriver. In the eyeball.
>>
>>17460029
ABS on a bike is a pain m8
It robs you of braking power and makes your rear a wobbly mess
>>
>>17460032
Sure, why not try?
But you threw a tantrum when you didn't get the response you wanted, which sounds like self-entitlement to me.
>>
>>17460034
that's not the impression I had when I rode my mate's ABS bike back to back to my non-ABS bike

I felt I could brake much more confidently into corners and the bike didn't skid around as much, especially in the rain
>>
>>17460018
I'm hoping to find out too ;_;
