SAM is happening at Cherohala Mountain Trails Campground from July 20 - July 23
We will ride the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, and other roads / trails in the area
Feel free to come if you didn't sign up, there is plenty of space (6acres of open tent camping) at the site.
The space is 10$ per night, we will be there 3 nights total

Is there a bike that can do everything? Some sorta Japanese naked that sport bikes as well as tourers are based off?

But the only person who can update map is in africa, with internwt acess bout once a month, with an old msn account which takes him 20 minutes to load new emails so he never bothers.

I think Im going to copy everyone currently on the map onto a new one, and be the new mapmiester.

Having a bike that can do offroad and track days are kind of polar opposite. Adventure bikes are not really suited for either real offroad nor tracks, but could kind of do both.

Multistrata, or maybe a dr650 if you take it on supermoto tracks, not big bike tracks.
>>
>>17451330
What if you fit adjustable suspension on a standard?
>>
>>17451342
When you say adjustable suspension, do you mean adjustable in length? Because that doesnt really exist. Besides, You cant just put longer suspension on a street bike not made for it and expect it to work well.

Not to mention swapping out suspension isnt really a quick easy job, and it would likely cost more than just getting a dedicated track or dirtbike.

I doubt that performs as well as a track prepped sv650, the track here anyways has plenty of highspeed corners that are best taken at 200kmph+, not sure any supermoto can do that.

How are long trips on that thing?

Before and after the riser swap on my FZ1.

>>17451373
On a very tight track maybe.

>>17451530
>If any of these electronic components fail, the bike is fucked.

Eeeeeeh the eletronic fault meme. It depends a lot on the bike/make. BMWs have tons of sensors and eletronic fuckery but the only TRUE sensor that will keep F800's and R1200's from running nowadays is the crank position sensor.

You can take the airbox and the rest of the sensors and throw them in a bin and the bike will still run. Like shit, but will run.

In no I way endorse BMWs however.
>>
>>17451569
>On a very tight track maybe.
70hp and 320lbs, it's no 600 but it's not slow.
>>
>>17451569
If it doesn't shoot oil on the crank, the bike will seize. It needs the electronic sensors to ensure that it gets the proper amount of fuel and oil. It's not a meme.

I'll stick to mixing gas with oil.
>>
>>17451550
Im afraid of Indian being too conservative when they decide to expand their model range, all they would need to do is introduce a price competitive ADV, dualsport, standard or sport bike.

Im thinking they rather play it safe and eat up the cruiser market.
>>
>>17451419
I own that xd
>>
>>17451582
Some brands just don't fit all types of motorcycles. Victory would've been a far better opportunity for taking beyond cruisers. I can imagine sporty Victory nakeds or advs with beefy V-twins would've sold quite well.

>guy on the forums said he took his to a track recently and said he was faster than everyone

I'm not saying it's slow by any means, but if it wasn't a supermoto track, everyone else sucked.

Me and 90% of the field (600s, sumos, literbikes, whatever) get our asses kicked by 14 y/o's on Moto 3 bikes.

>>17451578
>If it doesn't shoot oil on the crank, the bike will seize

That sounds about right.

>It needs the electronic sensors to ensure that it gets the proper amount of fuel and oil

Most bikes default to some value when the sensors don't read anything, but fair point.

I'll settle for half meme status and a beer.
>>
Why does DBT shill the SV650 so much? It's heavy and it's got an ugly giraffe neck half fairing. What does it do that a comparable Honda or Yamaha doesn't?
>>
>>17451608
It was a regular track but it was some class with only twins and singles under a liter in it. He actually said the only guy faster than him was on a Duc 749 or some shit like that.
>>
>>17451622
it used to be even cheaper than it is now

it doesn't have a ridiculous amount of power or weight

the power it does have it set up in a very linear way, so you don't get to a peak and get a load of hp like a 600

they're just pretty solid beginner bikes for a reasonable price, man

What are some good gauntlet gloves and boots? I got my leathers but I need better gloves and actual boots to go racing.

I was looking at Alpinestars SMX-6s because they had them at a dealer I was at and they looked cool as fuck, but that's about it. I'm also concerned that my leathers are A*s and if I get A*s boots and gloves it'll look gay.

So what's better, having to fiddle with multiple carburetors but being able to fiddle with them at all, or having fuel injection that's more reliable to begin with but when it goes out you're fucked?

I mean, honestly the scout is a great bike.
But for a highway bound state a scout without a windscreen it kind of sucky.

The wind at 75 sucks, but may be my modular helmet doesmt help with the wind noise.

Hey DBT, what do you call this part on a Powervavle actuator? I broke one of the 'teeth' removing the plate and now it won't securely hold cable 1. Rendering it useless, worse is in my anger about snapping this stupid cast ally crap is i bent the spring behind it pulling it off too.

I need a new plate and spring but it has no part number and whatever i can think to name it doesn't give me a result.

it's for a cagiva mito 125, 2001 model.

Maybe I'm an adv rider and currently in the ass end of Kyrgyztan. Carburetion does give you a warning period of running roughly during which you can still go places to get it fixed, and it's far more servicable in some underdeveloped third world country. Fuel injection holds up with less maintenance and rebuilding in general, but if it does go out it's sudden and you'll need expensive, hard to source parts.

I've never actually heard of anybody having major problems with their EFI that made it so they couldn't ride.
>>
>>17454378
Im sure it is a phenomenal around town bike though. The chief is about the opposite. It's not bad around town as long as I avoid traffic hours. But is glorious on road trips. That thing will eat up miles all day long with no issues. Still wanting them to come out with a fix fairing model though
>>
>>17454407
Yeah, but how often does FI actually go out?

My bike is at 140k km, never had problems with it
My dad's previous bike had 190k km, never had FI problems.

Only heard of one person having a broken FI, but that was a stone taking it out.
>>
>>17454407
It also costs a shit tone more to mod a bike with EFI. I can just re-jet or adjust a carb.
>>
>>17454426
It cost me $20 and about 15 minutes of waiting in a garage to switch the fuel mapping on my bike

>>
>>17454445
Believe what you want. My bike comes with 2 mappings on the ECU for easy swapping. It's 10 years old now too so you I'm sure there are even easier ways now.

It's not super customized like you get with power commanders, it just unlocks the race mapping to give you some extra performance. Supposed to do it when you get aftermarket pipes and air filter to make it run better.
>>
>>17454463
Riding modes aren't tuning though. And a good/proper ECU retune requires a dyno.

So I went in to a couple of dealers today to look at 2016-17 600s: CBR600RR, ZX-6R, GSX-R600, and YZF-R6.

I guess the one by my house which sells Kawasaki and Honda doesn't stock 600s anymore due to lack of demand, so I wouldn't be able to sit on them and feel them out unless I either BUY one and have them transferred over from another dealer or go to a dealer in a different city, which the nearest one is not close. On the other hand, the dealer 10 min away has both the Yamaha and the Suzuki. I sat on the Suzuki – it felt nice; my feet sat relatively flat on the ground, and it's a mighty fine looking bike. The Yamaha sat a little higher, so I'd definitely want them to lower it (which they would charge ~$400, but I'm gonna try and get them to include it in the final price), and in my opinion it's the better looking bike.

My heart is telling me to go with the Yamaha, so I'll probably go with that once I start my new job.

Anyways, what do you guys think of these 4? And what do you think about this dealer not stocking the Honda or Kawasaki? Are the others just that much more popular? I mean the 2016-17 CBR has a pretty weak design, and the Kawasaki design is just not cool anymore.

I would just go for the one you like most, lets be honest they are all long in the tooth and close enough in performance to not make much difference.

Carefull with lowering it, it does impact the handling. I know girls who are like 5'6 who manage to ride rockets without lowering them, as long as you can tippy toe them you are good... Just takes some getting used to.

umm please explain

And yeah the guy at the dealer warned me about that, he said it should be fine. I'm 5'7" +1" with boots on. I had some thin running shoes on today when I went but with boots I don't think I'll need to lower it much. All my other bikes (01 and 09 Ninja 250, 02 SV650) have sat fine, but I am really leaning (no pun intended) towards the R6.
>>
>>17454301
I got a uclear amp pro and it actually sounds really good. It was expensive and kinda fiddly to install but I'm pretty happy with the sound quality. Apparently it has to be the pro though, the cheaper models have shitty speakers with no bass.

Earbuds do sound good too but I hated when I'd do a head check or something and it'd partially dislodge the bud from my ear. In a full face there's no fixing that shit until you stop and take the helmet off
>>
>>17454681
The logic behind not buying a new 600 is that they have basically all been the same bikes for years so it's not worth paying a premium for what amounts to new paint over a model that's a couple of years old and costs way less.

The new R6 has actually changed some, new electronic aids and stuff. The engine remains the same though
