Thanks, I just like how the paint makes it look old. The fact that it's free is just a bonus.

Also got a question for anyone to answer. I installed my radio in my orange truck today. When the key is on the radio is fine but when the truck starts it kicks off after about 30 seconds. I put a meter on the alternator and it's overcharging at around 18 volts. Would that cause the radio to kick off? Radio is a MVH-296BT from Pioneer. I ordered an alternator anyways, just wondering if that could cause the radio to shut down, like a safety or something.

56 Ford I was willed last year, 80,000 miles, totally stock, hadn't been driven since the seventies. Also my first project, had to rebuild the engine and clear the fuel lines of course, but now runs nicely. Trying to take it to some car shows when I get the chance, since this photo I put on chrome mirrors, put in a new interior, and touced up/polished the paint.

When I was in HS l was looking for a ÂĽ pickup as a first truck, bit holy shit were they all so spendy.. ended up getting an 86 f250 for $500.
2½ years later I sold it for $1350 and bought dis 85 f250 for $1900
>>
>>17295856
Small trucks are stupid expensive man. Except for like the S10 but those are almost always piles of shit.

When I bought that one it was just shy of 147k on the clock and was $4000 after taxes and shit from the dealer.

I wanted a bronco for a short time but all of the emissions shit they had really scared me away and the 78-79 models were all way too much for a project car. I looked at F250s for a while too and thought they were more affordable up front.

First post on /o/, pls be gentle when you rip my anus open

Currently drive a 2002 Nissan Xterra, want to replace it with either a pickup or an SUV. I never tow anything, but I like going to the beach/park with bikes, umbrellas, coolers, etc. What's more practical for me? Thinking of a Toyota Tundra/Sequoia. I want a V8 for some more smiles per gallon than my Xterra delivers. It's a little anemic.

I've never driven a truck (only been driving for a couple years). Can you lock down bikes and other stuff down securely? How about groceries? Do I need to throw them in the back of a crew/extended cab?

Doing it wrong. Old trucks are for overlanding, range trips, Sunday drives through the sticks and the twisties, picnics with the gf, and building a wheelin' rig when it simply can't be restored to stock condition viably anymore/in the first place. Must be nice not to live around illegals and assorted ghetto trash. I live in a pretty decent area, but the riff-raff from the surrounding areas creeps in sometimes. So-Cal (Orange County) here. Ain't no fucking little gang-banger piece of shit gonna steal MY beach cruisers.

I'm leaning more toward Sequoia with a V8 and a bike rack, also because of the passenger space. Gotta have room for my family...and those um...friends I totally have. I just use a normal bike lock to lock the bikes to the rack ATM.

I'll be honest, this is why I want a pickup:
>big-ass V8 to speed, pass slow idiots, and make the vroom noise that makes my pee-pee tickle
>big-ass vehicle to cut people off and discourage people from pulling stupid moves around me
These fucking gooks and illegals around here can't drive for shit. I hate it when I signal to change lanes and some idiot speeds up. No, asshole. You're getting cut off.

Smol truccs are stupidly expensive but worth it just for the rapid heating in the winter and smooth cooldown in the summer. Plus a removable back window means semi-convertable woooooo

Anyway, here's muh trucc for hauling chemicals innawoods for my contracted part time job. It gets otay gas mileage and is optimised now for highway driving. Commuting with it is also really fun.

4.0 V6 from 2010 (after Ford fixed their stupid SOHC cam, rods, and belt issues). 3 inch front lift with a half inch bumper, winch running 75 KCs. 33 inch duratracs and upgraded t-case skid that holds the whole weight of the vehicle.

I'll always prefer jump seats on any 1974-96 SuperCab, if only because my dad had one with jump seats when I was a kid and they were the shit. But it is great that the bench seat folds out to make a flat load floor.

And extended cab/8' bed is the best config for 90% of truck stuff IMO unless you off-road all the time or you live somewhere where space is an issue.

My mom bought one new in 2002. Power steering pump went out within 6 months. I don't know exactly what else went wrong with it (I was a kid), but we didn't keep it very long. It costed more to maintain it than it was worth. We replaced it with a new Xterra that we have to this day. It's slow, cramped, and the ceiling lining is coming off, but it works.

Bought a 13' F150 with a 6.2 in it about a year ago. Was originally going to buy a Super Duty with the PSD, but couldn't find any good deals around here, and I don't NEED the diesel. Prices have come down now on the 11-14 SDs and I'm honestly considering trading up for a 350 with the 6.7 with 130k miles (fully maintained at a Ford dealership, with new tie rods)

Am I a moron for considering this?

No pic but had a 1998 chevy k1500 I got handed down by my uncle. He even bought 2 new tires for me, oh man I was extremely grateful. I had a 89 ranger that was a piece of shit, so it felt nice to have something bigger, faster, and more relaxing to drive.

After 9 months, I sold it to my dad so I could get a gas saver for college. 2 years later, I'm looking at selling my 2002 subaru legacy for another k1500, hopefully between 95-98, and maybe manual.

Oh yea, got a senior pic of the truck as my background. I should ask my dad where it's at so I can keep it.

>>17308737
How about a truck with 150,000+ miles on it? I want a Tundra. Some guy went 1,000,000 miles in his 2007 Tundra. Shouldn't be a problem, right?

I've got a Taco 96 that I DD with 160,000 miles on it and expect to get another 150,000, Toyota trucks are better than most ,(excluding diesel), in terms of longevity, so as long as it was kept in a reasonably good condition it shouldn't be an issue.

I dd a 33 year old dodge

So long as it's in good mechanical condition it's not bad. You just got to remember it's a old truck, it will ride a little rough, it's gonna rattle and make odd noises, it will probably leak various fluids and things like that

Mine is an old USMC base truck and had 95k on it when I got it, it's at 123k now and with the exception of the belts and a few vacuum lines I haven't had to touch it

I love the R/Ts, I'm either going to keep that set or buy another set of them in 37" for winter. I just decided to give the M/T a try since I've never had them and like the way they look.

I wanna truck. It would be a second vehicle for basically moving my dirt bike or track bike. Light off roading for fun and my girlfriend would take it to trailheads to access hikes a couple times a year.

Is a square body a bad idea? How much is this K10 worth? Did K10s have 6 or 5 digit odometers?

Finally a practical truck in this thread. The bed is flat and you can access it from all sides. The stupidity of American truck beds boggles the mind.
>>
>>17318253
Its a kangaroo shooting tray. Full stainless. Holds 50 roos. Not so much for hauling shit except diesel barrels. Diesel is expensive in the outback :)

>>17318091
Thanks. The instrument panel bezel actually cost me $120 cause it's like super rare. They only used that wood pattern from like '81-'84 and only started to make diesel trucks in '83, so those bezels are hard to even find pictures of online...

>I drive a van, to which you faggots call "pedomobiles". Funny thing is it's more viable than your impractical piece of shit SUVs with a bed.
That is not helping make your case.
>>
>>17319104
But you can't slide or lift stuff in it from all sides. You'd really expect vehicles hailed as being so utilitarian and practical to be a bit more utilitarian and practical.
>>
>>17294712
Yeah if your cargo never smells bad/is messy and doesn't exceed the height and width limits of your van

>>17319104
Maybe he's loading and unloading REAL cargo that weighs in excess of 100lbs

So put it in from the back? Or, just get rid of the bed and stick a flatbed on and be happy. I want to eventually get a flatbed, but I want to have removable walls to stop stuff from sliding off/out.

New trucks r expensive

Why get a truck if the bulkiest thing you're going to haul is a bike? Bike rack on any CUV will do you. Look up whatever CUVs Consumer Reports recommends. Get a truck if you make periodic trips to Home Depot or other bulky/dirty places. Get a 4x4 if you need to get through mud or snow.

Honestly if you live in urban SoCal, and don't need to tow or haul - get something like a Focus ST or RS and put a bike rack on the back of that. Plenty of room for passengers and coolers and has enough power to allow you to hold your own on the freeways.

If you like to go up in the mountains to ski or if you lived in Victorville and went offroad all the time, then you can justify a 4x4/AWD, otherwise get 2WD.
