I'm putting my waifu folder on a thumb drive and am preparing to go this route tomorrow. First big trip I'm making. There's going to be some precipitation around Ruzomberok-Poprad. I think I'll be able to pull it off.

On the off chance someone's going the same way, I plan on setting out around 11am and going on highways, but leisurely. Feel free to join, I'll be a lot calmer knowing someone's around.

Morning all.

It's pissing out, thunderbolts and lightning.

Local Harley dealer is sending out their trailer to bring the bike into the city to get it on the dyno and richen up the AFR for me. The combination of those Vance & Hines straight shots and "stage 1" air intake are leaning the bike out considerably to the point where at about 1500-2000 rpm the bike surges and bucks and when downshifting sounds like popping corn.
>>
>>17263430
alright but been replaced with the YS125 for a reason
>>
>>17263665
My first bike was a bandit 400.

Many years later, I bought a ninja 250 for my wife to learn to ride. What a fucking piece of garbage that thing was. Let it sit for 2 days? Won't start. Negative power. Speed is increasing, i have to shift gears but NO sensation of acceleration at all.
It is the only bike out of 50 some odd that I have owned that I can honestly not find one single good thing to say about it. And this was a brand fucking new 2008 Ninja 250. Fucking TRASH.
>>
>>17263684

You've obviously never owned an rgv250.

>And you thought you could just get through this straight, didn't you? Where's your piston now? Fuck you, cunt.
>>
>>17263684
They're supposedly fun if you git gud and carry momentum around very, very tight corners, like at a decent track or a very unsafe mountain pass if you can find one with the unlikely combination of smooth pavement and hairpin turns.

Just not fun anywhere else.

Barely. meanwhile the kawasucki shits out near on 40hp extra (if you can stand the reliability issues).

In my local comp this year no-one is riding a cbr. Aprilia has higher representation.
>>
>>17263712
CBRs are streetbikes that are sometimes used for recreational racing. I don't know why anyone ever thought otherwise.

It's honda. They don't put their race winning shit into production anymore, probably because kawasaki would copy it and blow them the fuck out.

kawasaki makes a lot of cheap garbage in order to fund shit like the H2R. everyone does to an extent (honda and their third world scooters), but they're not a large company so that's all they do. make a bunch of cheap crap and a small amount of good stuff.

in general, if a kawasaki isn't top of the line and meant to compete with top of the line bikes it's going to be garbage in every respect. suspension, brakes, engine, comfort, fit and finish, build quality. all shit, and probably dating back to 1987 when they last made a significant change to the design.

I've been looking for a motor from one of those for years, have a deltabox frame ready to go. They're unicorns here.

Dream was to banshee it and get myself a road-going 500 with spanees and everything.
>>
>>17263414
Enjoy the ride.
What bike do you have?
If you're nervous on the highway, stay off it. Smaller roads are pretty good fun on a bike.
>>
>>17263764

Very cool.
>>
>>17263813
that's only because they were too poor to update the design
>>
>>17263816
Haven't people kicked those banshee twins (which are RZ350 engines, really) out to near 700cc?

Would be a fun project, and you'd only need a rear tire since the front would never touch down!
>>
>>17263811
Pretty much true.
There are very few roads left I would actually use that horsepower on.
My bike only has 100hp and I rarely want to use it all, in case there was some dip or hole I hadn't seen. And in town I swerve all over my lane not to hit hole. I got lucky one time, there was a hole I didn't see, big enough for my whole tire, just happened to be to the right of it. Now in my memory for that street tho.
>>
>>17263825

Some guys I met that were racing in PCRA would throw banshee heads on TZR250s and they reckoned 500 was the borderline between power and fear. Going over is something you could do, but you'd need a quick clutch hand and massive testicles.

I had a couple of sponsors, but the bulk of it was self-funded.

I knew two guys racing ASBK that were entirely self-supported, and that's big money racing. Tough to get to the point where you can run a bike not out of your own pocket. Impossible in this country to actually make a living racing. A lot of scary fast guys doing your oil changes for you. I think even Mike Jones has a day job.

I used to race in a local sv650 only series. Only modifications allowed were brakes, fluids and tires. Was a lot of fun and pretty cheap. About 20-30 people would split the total cost and the winner got a big trophy.
Ended being about $50 for the day, not including parts, tires etc.
Although the brake pads and oil need to be changed after the day.

What a rebuild at 200 hours of riding?
assuming you are averaging over 100kmh because ya know track bike, that is at least 20,000km of track riding before spending $600 to rebuild the engine..
the fuck are you complaining about?
its a track bike you might ride once a month for maybe 3 hours, you aren't going to be doing that much maintenance on it.

Sure, a sub 120kg 50+hp bike would be terrible but a 160+kg 30hp r3 would be great right?

nobody wants to invest $12k into a niche track bike to get into some racing series nobody has ever heard of.

People are willing to spend $1500 on a beat up ninjette or SV to participate in racing and also use on the street daily.

I consider myself a well above average off road rider, and a slightly above average asphalt rider. There's no way to safely ride in the "skill envelope" in the city. While I'd like to go practice out in the mountains and twisties I just can't risk another ticket.

So I want to start riding at the track but I'm really torn on what kind of bike to start with. I've owned 80cc and 125 cc 2-stroke dirt bikes, 200cc and 650cc four stroke dual sports, and an 1100cc touring bike.

On one hand, a 250-300 size bike I would be able to absolutely flog right to its limits, which would let me focus on actual technique and things instead of just seeing how close to the edge I could get without putting "too much bike" into it.

A 600 would have a much longer skill "reach" that I could grow into over time, but I'd have to start out a little more reserved.

I want a literbike, but not until I'm riding at the intermediate or advanced track group level. The local org has "novice" "intermediate" and "advanced" groups.

Might not be much but keep in mind that I'm "only" twenty-two and still studying for my bachelors in economics (you're welcome for the info stalkerfag). I've got my sight on a dt175, costs around $4,650 here in ethiopia. Am dubious whether that is the true cost of the bike but automotive taxes here are usually 3x the price so... Was planning on buying a used one until now for 1/3 the factory price. Just to satisfy my curiosity, how far up the tier am I going to be with a dt175 here at /dbt/? Basically anything that doesn't have any large apparent gaps between the fender and seat like that.

I'm also partial to longer tails that stick out at least as far as the rear tire so they don't need that cheesy looking extension to prevent water from flinging straight up. Obviously the lower part has to be there on any bike as they come stock for legal reasons but with a longer tail you can keep functionality and still look good once you remove it.

That makes sense then, I suppose, if it's actually accomplishing those goals.

A lot of the ones I see are clearly made to have that look but certainly don't appear to be saving any material or weight.

Pretty low.

No. Most of use here own shitbikes. A couple 125s, a few 250s, several 300-500s, and a bunch of 600cc+

A lot of it is the subframe/seat. My bike's from the 90s and has a giant seat that's comfortable for me and my passenger, and there's still "storage" space under it

and then, look at the ne MT09 seat/tail

I mean, it's great they can offer such bikes at that cost, but damn

It's unique and keeps the rear fender from looking like a total afterthought in a segment every bike seems to look the same.

Bought my Magna v65 project.

The dude I bought it from was pretty cool, he used to drag race in the 90s, had trophies and plaques everywhere and his garage was outfitted with some crazy equipment like a huge mill, a lathe, engine balancing equipment, valve grinders, etc.

Now I guess he just tunes his neighbors muscle cars and speed boats.

He was also a Harley hater so I thought of you guys.

So /dbt/ what should I do with my bike?

Part of me wants to restore it, the other part of me has an unhealthy fetish with Mad Max.

So I read this article predicting that big-bore single cylinder motorcycles will be banned due to emissions.

I happen to ride a KLR650 and I like so many things about that bike I'm loathe to downgrade to a 250 that can't keep up on the highway or try to ride a fat-assed porky fucking twin like a DL650 or Africa Twin off-road.

Would fuel-injection make any difference?

Hey lads, have an issue with an XV125, loud squeaking sound coming from front brakes. Getting some brake action when no brake being applied too. Might be the pad rubbing against the disc, might be that the brake fluid needs to be drained, might be a few other things, I'm not sure. Either way, my plan is bleed the brake fluid, replace the pads, and see is the problem sorted. The manual does not help me in how to go about this though. Any good resources on bleeding the brake fluid, or any kind anon want to write one up? Do i need to remove the front tyre? I only have a sidestand on the virago to, is that a problem? Cheers
>>
>>17265733

Yeah, that's a good example of the kind of thing I think is awful. That abomination hanging off the back could be completely integrated into a much better looking ass if they leveled the tail out instead of sweeping it up, and gave it just a little

It's hard to buy a "standard" now that has even a small storage compartment or a comfy passenger seat (which for me usually means a place to strap a 48L pack). Everything is going for the obnoxious aggressive styling.

It'll be ok Canadanon. It's impossible to pass a measure like this without grandafathering, because you can't just force vehicles people already have off the road.

It'll apply to new bikes being sold.

Not that it isn't bullshit to begin with, considering how few motorcyclists there are compared to "cagers".
>>
>>17265998
>t. Euro
I'm African. It`s the same story as gun control. They say it is about saving lives but more people die of heart attacks and car crashes, but no one bans fat people. A bike will make less smoke in it`s life time than a car because generally they are on the road less. There are fewer bikes on the road, and they almost all have smaller engines.

Deforestation does all the real damage along with over fishing by trawling.

>>17266020
The point is that it will be around forever. I can`t just go down town and buy a RGV250 any more. In twenty years there wont be any new KLR650s and that might mean parts are hard to come by.

>>
>>17266058
But some day I'll be an old-ass man and there will be no more cheap, inexpensive, low-cost and easily affordable bikes that are reliable and versatile, multipurpose and ect with the synonyms.

It'll only be some dorky compromise DRZ-400 that gets overtaken on the highway by delivery vans or some pig-fat twin 'adventure' bike that drops like a ton of bricks the instant it runs into rocks or mud.
>>
>>17266150
>there will be no more cheap, inexpensive, low-cost and easily affordable bikes that are reliable and versatile, multipurpose and ect with the synonyms.
this is entirely possible

but it's also possible that these bikes will still be produced under the new emissions controls

they'll just be electric
>>
>>17266143
Yeah, I'll bet fat people are real worried about dirty air. The air only gets bad in places like China and it`s not caused by cars. Why even restrict bikes when there are so few, comparatively speaking.

But I like my pigfat, "underpowered" XR650L anon. Take your edge elsewhere

>>17266150

I'm 100% with you there. I have other bikes I like, but none I love like my XR.

More than enough power in town, better suspension and lower weight meaning better off road capability than any adv bike, and I can still cruise 80mph on the highway or flog it up to over 100 if I really need to.

Also, stupidly simple and incredibly cheap.

Any replacement is either going to be heavier, worse on the highway, worse off road, or much more complex and expensive.

>much more complex and expensive.
That's progress to you luddite.

Anyways the issue isn't that you can't make 650s, it's that (like 600 supersports) the market isn't competitive enough to spend R&D money on them.
>>
>>17266223
>greencucking in general will
Greencucking the huge sum of normies that just want a way from A to B will reduce >99% of vehicle emissions. They won't mind and neither do I.
Ruining hobbies like this for the sake of the last fraction of a percent of "progress" is asking for outrage
>>
>>17266238
The cruiserfags and sportbike guys run 80% of the motorcycle market. So yeah there is a reason the Japs have never updated their big thumper dual sports.

But the adventure bike segment is growing faster than anything else, and people are going to want a basic, low-cost thing to strap bags to and go ride around on.

Electric will never work, either your 'adventure' goes 25 miles out or you have 300,000k in rare earth batteries to take you 50 miles and back.

Everyone fucking knows cattle produce the majority of greenhouse gasses through their flatulence and belching, they can fuck off and leave my 0.65l engine alone. The KLR650 has like 1 cylinder out of a I6 4.0l delivery van. If they ban 650 thumpers they need to ban everything else with a fucking gasoline engine too.
