Really, this is something so minor it should not even be considered an obstacle, and it was beyond what a new Jeep can do in a controlled and repeatable manner.

Why the ever living hell would you consider a 3.0 Ranger? It gets similar gas mileage to Taynger's 4.0 and like 25% less power.
This is with her driving insane amounts of km. With the 4.3, at least you get that torque and potential for a 4x4 transfer case addition.
Also, you can always resell it for monies.

Hey. I'll be dropping by Peterborough (and so Boundary) on Saturday and Monday. Hop on Discord.

My experience with my brothers unmodified 2007 FX4 Level II automatic with the towing package which goes though gas slightly quicker than my S10 is what made me want the 3.0. Now I realize that 15MPG isn't that bad. Song related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJBtqAM85zg

This truck is in better condition than every single S10 I've seen on Kijiji so while I'm sure I could sell it for more than the 4K I payed for it, being able to turn every bolt without fear and not having to deal with shitloads of rust like my old Impala is nice. I'm also gonna wait until I can afford a mint double cab ZR2 S10. I'll be at Mosport all weekend and I'm gonna be working on spraying rubber undercoating in my driveway for the next little bit and cleaning up some other rust so I won't be putting mud on her for a bit.

Say whatnow?

I see what you guys meant by making sure to remove the filler plug first, as its fucking impossible to get any leverage on the breaker bar when you're on the floor, under the truck and lying at an angle. My Ryobi impact once again proves itself to be a damned good investment
>>
>>
>>
>>17230187
Protip: give the plugs a good whack with a heavy flat hammer first and use a hex (impact driver) socket with a long handle for leverage.
If you dont have a long handle use a piece of hollow pipe.

Also your mom is gay.

If I'm upgrading something I'll look at Off-Road Warehouse, Low-Range Offroad, Wheeler's Offroad, or I'll check the manufacturer's website if it's armor, shocks, etc.

Not him but I've got one on mine that was made locally. It's floppy as shit and a pain to use with the barn doors in the location he used for hinge. I ended up moving my spare to the roof basket for now, and I'll probably beef this one up a little bit and sell it. Might make my own or I might adapt an ARB to make a rear winch bumper and improve departure angle.

>Why in God's name would the idiot put the tire hinge there?
Because he's a fucking retard. I drew up a 3D model of what I wanted for him, the finished product doesn't look anything like it.
He claimed it was so it wouldn't block the tail light, but now it blocks the door. I don't know why he didn't just make it a few inches shorter. I gave him all the measurements for everything including bolt pattern for the wheel and frame shape, dimensions, and bumper bolt locations. Yet he still made the backing plate for the spare and the frame mount plates too small and used too thin a gauge of steel for pretty much everything.

>Specifically the DB2 conversion...
Well the 6.5 I bought was already DB2. I need to buy 96+ accessory brackets for it and find the right TCM. Local scrapyard is parting HMMWVs so hopefully they'll sell a TCM separately.

I'm starting to get some of the parts cleaned up and painted. Haven't really bought much for it lately other than a Glowshift tripple pod pillar and gauges.
I got the engine on a stand and tore it down a little bit more but no major progress.

Rusted cylinder walls obviously didn't seize it because it still turns over by hand fairly easily. I coated everything in oil to keep it from getting any worse. I'm considering boring it out to a 6.6 and buying the lower compression pistons...
>>
>>17232970
Its not all about river crossings.
Engines love clean and cool air, snorkels give you cleaner and cooler air than a standard intake.
My aifilter gets nowhere near as dirty after installing a snorkel.
Also the day you want it for a river crossing you will be glad, I avoid them in general but rivers can rise ya know.
At the very least install diff breathers yourself, cheap and easy.

Ask a guy who just dunked his Land Cruiser in a River anything.

First question:
Would a snorkel have helped?
Yes. Yes it would've.
>>
File: end of the line.jpg (73KB, 960x720px) Image search: [Google]
end of the line.jpg
73KB, 960x720px
So would've:
waterproofing the fuse box, relocating the horn, sealing the doors, relocating the security box, a bunch of other shit

Spent one hour fixing a cylinder misfire and potential air intake issues with clamps and sensors. The main thing about the snorkel is it removes the need for the giant pot that is the "air filter" cleaner. This localises the cold air intake to the top of the vehicle and away from the residual heat rising from the exhaust manifold. You can accomplish a similar thing with a moved cold air intake, large amounts of heat padding, or a different cold air intake. But none of these options are under $200 and all take more than 2 hours to fuck around with. The snorkel I bought was $69.99 and installation is only as difficult as the hole measurement.

Residual water tables are still pretty high from a 3 day storm last week. Place by the farm was flooded and the branches looked like they were pretty light so I decided to go through it.

Mud moved and dug myself a ft. deeper than it looked. Water flooded in and released a bunch of mud gremlins within the span of 5 seconds.

I'm not too upset. It just expedeited issues that would've needed fixing down the line, anyway. Things like a front axle rebuild, total carpet cleaning, electronics rewiring and relocation, and waterproofing the entire engine bay.

>>17229228
I forgot that they (and I) also browse /lit/. But also /mu/. Innacity /mu/fags don't like insane bush parties and only the normie heapfags use bonfire residue to light up weed.

I'm in the United Kingdom. I'm going to be pulling a Miata that's propped onto a towing dolly to race tracks around the country.

It's just a £300 dolly that's rated for up to 2000kg. Looks a bit like pic related.

I'm just looking for a cheap reliable vehicle that I can use to tow it. Doesn't have to be an SUV, but I like the utility of one.
>>

just make sure its rated to tow at least 1.5 tonnes, which most can. Even wagons can tow that much, so maybe look into those, or a ute

I'm looking for a compact SUV that I could take off road. The Chevy Niva looks great but it doesn't seem to be available in Burgerland. Is the Jeep Renegade a good car?
Ideally I'm looking for something that has has decent mileage for long road trips, but I can still take off-road. Boxy aesthetic is plus.

If you don't want to drill all the way through the wall, then you will have to fab some sort of mount that can be attached, or buy one of the various pre-made mounts. The rail type mounts are common for mounting on truck bed walls.

Yes!
It was 115 in the valley and 68 on the summit!
I had the top to myself. Only saw one other hiker that day.
The highlight was that a military jet saw me on the summit. I waved my arms and made a down motion for a fly by.
He came right at me and tilted the plane vertical and flew level with me just off the summit. He then straightened the plan horizontal and accelerated. The wash knocked me off balance and almost knocked me down.
He came so close that I could make out details in the cockpit. It F'n rocked!
The views into both Death Valley and Panamint Valley are outstanding.

Ever tried eating one of the bigger snakes? Tastes like a leaner boar since they're all low twitch muscle. Rip the skin off and there's surprisingly little bone. Like minature ribs, actually.

So I got some off-road tires today for free, bretty nice. Thing is, they're KOs (not KO2) and I only have two of them

Would it be worth it to have mismatched tires until I buy my coopers or should I just not bother and sell the KOs to put the money towards my next set of tires?
>>
>>17240546

You should keep them as spares because if you do any amount of time offroad you're going to destroy some tires.
>>
>>17240551
So what, I'll drive around with 3 spares in my truck?

I dont even have any extra steelies to mount them to
>>
>>17240588

You should bring two if you're going for any length of time. At least one and a patch kit if you don't have the room.

Or don't bring any, blow a tire, and then be the dickhead who begs people to use their spare/drive him back to get his spare.
>>
>>17240588

Also had transmission work done.

Jeep really only puts effort into three lines: Grand Cherokee, Cherokee (less so recently) and Wrangler. Everything else is suspect from an R&D perspective in my book. Trailhawk Editions of some lesser Jeep are decently capable but built on fairly crappy base vehicles to start with.

An old 4.0 Cherokee XJ is pretty bulletproof, though, and can be modded to hell. But it's pre '08. Is this a financing thing?

Sold and serviced used cars or 4 years, for what it's worth.

Anyway, if you want an off-road car the bank will finance (forgive me if my assumption is wrong) your best bet is Toyota (take your pick from FJ, 4runner, Taco, Cruiser, Tundra), Jeep Wrangler, Ford Ranger (hard to find and kinda pricey), Silverado/Sierra, and maaaaaaaybe an Ecoboost F150 or Trailhawk Cherokee/Renegade. In kinda that order (knock down Cruiser and Tundra a few spots for me due to my preference for smaller 4x4s). Those are my picks anyway. I'm kinda high, so I probably left out a glaringly obvious choice or two. Someone will be along soon, no doubt, to correct me most vociferously.

>>17248063
Reliability is similar between the two, both the Tahoe and LC are above average. But when something does break, the Tahoe is one of the cheapest vehicles to fix while the LC is relatively expensive. In the US, you can not beat the parts availability and cost of the GM full size trucks and SUVs. They're reliable, stupid easy to work on, and cheap to buy.

96+ Vortec is better regardless of small block or big block. The TBI 350s aren't terrible but you may find yourself wanting more power. If you'd rather have power than economy then hold out for a 454.
>>

No, it's not. LCs are often better cared for than Tahoes, yes. But if you take the time to find a Tahoe that's been cared for like the average LC, it will last just as long if not longer than the LC. There are variables that consumer reports do not take into account, now stop overrating Toyotas. All your misplaced hype is doing is needlessly jacking up prices for the next time you want to buy one.

It's okay to like what you like, it's okay to pay double what something is really worth just because you like it. That's fine. But don't tell people looking for advice to ignore anyone that doesn't share your fanboyism.

>high resale value
I see this phrase tossed around quite a bit, but most of the time the people using it don't have a complete understanding of what it actually means and how it impacts a buying decision throughout the life of a vehicle.
The only people that should be angry about high resale value of Toyotas is the Toyota fanboys. 90s Suburbans have appreciated over the past five years while LCs are still depreciating. "Holding value" is a good thing early on in a vehicle's life. It's a huge advantage if you're buying new. If you're buying a model 15-25 years old, you've reached the tail end of that and "holding value" becomes a disadvantage.

Buy burb for $2k five years ago, it's worth about $3k now.
Buy LC for $10k five years ago, it's worth about $8k now.

If you're buying now to keep, it's cheaper to get into a GM.
If you're buying now to sell later, the GM will lose less value since it's done depreciating.
If you already own one, GM has lost less value over the past few years.

>>17249266
Did you think I went somewhere?
>>
>>17249288
Not around here he won't

Just like the guy trying to sell his XJ for $18k
https://lascruces.craigslist.org/cto/6133263028.html
>>
>>17249331
That XJ has been for sale for almost a year btw
>>
>>17249331
Exceedingly nice, but listed at twice what it will sell for

I stand by the tacoma retard getting what he's asked, yota tax out west is insane. In the real world with rust, people know what kind of rustbuckets they can be.
>>
>>17247719
LCs are pretty goat, I was looking for one but couldn't even touch a '98 for less than $10k few years ago. If that's their asking price and you get it for $6500 or less, it's a sweet deal.

I would own a LC had I found one when I was shopping for an SUV but now I own a GX which has treated me really Well.

>>17249352
big fan of the gx
more and more aftermarket shit coming out for them too
>>
>>17249257
You admit to being a deluded fanboy but have yet to see how those delusions have shaped your views.

>80 series are skyrocketing in value
No, they're not. You've got a few retards asking double market value which is already double what they should be worth, but 99.9% of buyers aren't paying those prices yet.
>>17249331
This is exactly what I'm talking about. Most fanbases would say "this guy is a fucking moron, that thing has been for sale forever and isn't selling any time soon"
But when Toyota fanboys see prices like that on Toyotas, they say prices are skyrocketing.
It's just a different mindset. People that buy Toyotas are extremely submissive to ideas they perceive as being presented by someone like minded. Mostly iPhone carrying liberals. Remember to vote for Hillary, kiddo.

you are truly retarded anon
do you normally shit out of your mouth
you burb guys are so fast to call out toyotas
>i wonder why
>>
>>17249385
never said i was deluded, that was just you.

and yes they are man, have you even looked at what they are going for these days? 3 years ago you could buy one in decent shape for $3-4k. now anything that isnt completely clapped out is minimum $8k, usually $10-15k. modded ones are fetching close to (and sometimes over) $20k.

and 80s aside, any older series is basically collector status now. they bring an absurd price tag.

this is kind of a weird thing to argue about though not sure what point youre trying to prove.
>>
>>17249397
>ad hominem
We're adults here. We have logical debates. Insulting each other should be kept to a maximum of 1/3 of your post. If it's more than that, then you are arguing not debating, and are likely a child.
>>
>>17249441
We're not talking about 40 and 60 series. Those are in a different category entirely.
The 80 series on average are not actually fetching those prices. People are putting them up for sale for absurd prices just to see if they'll sell, and most of the time they don't.
>>
>>17249461
um ok? when did this specifically become about 80 series, you started this conversation off taking about cruisers in general.

and they 100% are. on the cruiser forums every day there are posts like "new to the club! paid $11k! no mods but clean service records and only 205k miles!"
im not sure what you are getting out of denying this desu but whatever man. i like burbs too.
>>
>>17249473
So a few retards that only pay that much because they've never looked into them before so they don't know the market value, and didn't bother shopping around.

You're proving my point, man. Look around the badge. You know damn well if it were any other brand you'd view the exact same thing in a completely different way.
>>
>>17249505
haha dude you are in full denial mode. its not a few retards, that is what they go for these days. its not a big deal, just accept it. again, im not even sure what point you are trying to prove with this - the fact that they are going up in value doesnt make them better or worse it just is what it is. really a weird point to argue especially when its an established fact.

>You're proving my point, man. Look around the badge. You know damn well if it were any other brand you'd view the exact same thing in a completely different way.
and i dont even know what thats supposed to mean. what is the exact same thing i would view in a different way? your post doesnt even make sense.

nice man
it looks good
how's the integrity of the lock
>>
>>17249998
It definitely leaves a lot to be desired. There are two spinners that go over the top of the can, the first is tightened down, and the second "punches" into some indents in the plastic and locks in place, but with enough muscle you can twist the two spinners and take it right off because the lock doesn't actually stop them from unscrewing

can you modify or just fuck it and hope for the best

Got an '04 Explorer Sport Trac. Is this a mistake?
>>
>>17250036
Yes for some reasons, no for some other reasons. All valid reasons.
>>
>>17250047
I see. I previously owned a '97 Explorer, which I loved but wrapped around a tree, and an '08 Explorer, which I despise.
What in particular is a problem with the Sport Trac? My previous Explorers were 2nd and 4th gen, so this will be my first 3rd gen model.
>>
>>17250030
I wish. The lock cylinder actually goes through holes in both twisters and is completely removed when you turn the key, so basically it just makes the two twist together
>>
>>17250073
Realistically, things like a $150 thermostat housing that always goes bad bug me. But other than that it's pretty alright. But it bugs me a lot. Fucking shame for such a solid vehicle.
>>
>>17250105
That's funny, because a thermostat failure is exactly how my '08 got fucked up. The thermostat failed closed. Then my water pump exploded and one of my head gaskets got warped in the aftermath.
