Fuck yeah early. Was just waxing the car today, prepping for the trip to the japan classic car meet.

And I've got to find the screw that fixes the driver's side seat belt to the chassis, it's been replaced with something relatively odd (though sturdy).

>Brand new wheels and tires.
I'm torn between 14 and 15 inch wheels and potentially staggering them as well.
>T3 Velocity stacks and filters for blacktop
>Potentially coilovers to make suspension less of a hassle
>New fender because one has obviously been rewelded and reshaped poorly
>Straightening up the driver's side headlight and repainting the cover
>DOUSING the entire car in brake cleaner to get the dumb fuckin' plastidip off and clean the paint up
>Retouch paint, wash, claybar, and wax
>Fix OEM radio or buy aftermarket unit

Right now, I'm just excited to be finishing the suspension this week and getting my miata sold.

First thing on the list is changing the timing belt. The car has been driven really little in the last 10 years (about 2-4k km per year) so the km's on the belt aren't up but I think it's been at least 10 years since it's been changed.

I haven't really thought of ricing it. I just need to get the basic maintenance done first.

Holy shit it's so fun to drive.

I have, thanks
it seems well maintained and is a fantastic deal
however it has crazy high mileage
and was used mainly for stop and go driving
I already know about the passenger side engine mount
are there any other weak points that would become apparent on a 10-15 minute drive and 10 minutes of squatting and looking underneath and in the engine bay?
if it's going to leak, where are the most likely places for it to do so?
>inb4 the oil pan, dingus

In all seriousness. Probably Rust. Bring a magnet and check the floors. If it doesn't stick through the carpet the floors might be shit under there. Also check anything rubber or anything that moves for play pretty much. Old cars are sort of a wild card.

>>17240022
Yeah, I did mean gaskets, bushings, etc. Rubber doesn't deal well with being exposed to sun light and air and moisture constantly for years. And the quality of some of these things can be indicative of the care taken of them. If there's no boots on the CV's for example, maybe you don't want to buy that. Or if you were let's say looking at a mk3 supra and the targa seals look like shit, might want to find out if it leaks now, rather than later.

While you're there, check for drips and stains wherever the car parks for most of the time. You can top up oil, but no way in hell you're getting years of oil drops off your driveway.

Today I finally got my AW11 off the jack stands. It's going to be aligned tomorrow and they are going to check all the suspension bolts and nuts to make sure they're all spec'd out.

I had a scare on the way there though, the power completely cut out of my car. It turned off and then in again so I think the power cut somehow but the engine wouldn't crank after that for like an hour. It's super weird and I'm replacing my sketchy fucking battery cable tomorrow so I can rule that out as being a potential problem down the line. I just can't wait till this thing drives in a straight line.

Drive it, it's my second car so I don't think I'll daily it but at least once a week.

It's a project car too so it has a laundry list of things that need to be taken care of.

the speedo and odometer don't work. The horn doesn't work. The HKS EVC needs to have lines run from the sending unit to the turbo and manifold to work. I'd like the cigarette lighter to work not because I smoke but because I'd like to have something to charge my phone with. The frunk and engine lid need hood pins. The front lip has a split in it on the passenger side. It pops out of fifth gear sometimes so the shifter may need to be adjusted. It doesn't have a shift boot because the ones that were in it would nose dive when shifting in to first. It doesn't have cruise control or AC and I would like both of those things if they're even possible to have. the interior is a little bit rough too so definitely some work needs to be done in there. I also kind of want to put fog lights on it but that's way down the list. It also needs a good wash and detail and a new set of tires. I think those are going to be next.
>>
>>17252691
Yeah, I'm gonna test my alternator once I get it back from the shop. But they confirmed that the battery wire was sparking off of my exhaust manifold so I'm gonna replace that today when I get the car back. I think that'll solve the issue but I'm definitely going to cover all the bases.
>>
Redpill me on the 5mge engine ,/tg/. Can it take boost? I have a friend who tunes cars as his job abs he claims anything can, but just from me rebuilding the engine and looking at it, I really don't think this engine would like the boost.

Oh it's found me, and I've been battling it for a couple of years now. But since moving up north (where they don't use road salt), I've figured I can beat it. How, you ask? By changing every damn part underneath it as soon as it goes bad. Bodywork is doing fine. Suspension, brakes and fuel tank have been the main issues so far.
I've changed all my rear geometry arms, rear brakes and handbrake (calipers, drums, shoes and wires) as well as the fuel filler pipe and the entire fuel tank <3 <3 <3
pic related is when we did the rear geometry arms.

I need some please /tg/.

Wife has a base model 2000 Camry with the 5sfe. Has a decent oil leak towards the front of the engine, coating the passenger side lower control arm in oil. This leak is driving me nuts, I can't seem to figure out where it's coming from. I already found that cylinder 1 and 2 valve cover nuts were only finger tight, i replaced the gasket and torqued all 4 nuts down to spec. Thought that was it, but it's still leaking, although not as bad.

What else on the front side of that engine can leak oil?

Recently some stupid bitch crashed into my 1998 corolla so I have been driving my mom's 2011 corolla. I fucking hate that thing sometimes. One thing that particularly bothers me is that if the revs are below ~3000 and especially if it is idling, if I blip the throttle, it takes about half a second to respond. If I try downshifting or rev matching like I do in my 1998, the revs are never high enough. I often have my foot off of the gas before the engine even responds. Are there some kind of fuses I can take out to eliminate this? I saw one labelled "electronic throttle control" or something, could this be it? I have considered taking the ABS/traction control fuses out as well and anything else that makes it unresponsive, but decided not to for my mom's sake.

What offset wheels are these? Running 38mm on mine and was thinking of running a bit less but not quite as far in this direction. Also, what coilovers were you considering.
>>
>>17270546
offset wont be the same on 2 different width wheels u know

youre always better off over estimating offset so you have the option to use spacers to get it off the strut or make it flush. if you go under there's nothing you can do.

a 6k MR2 turbo (with the sweet gen 3 3s) will whoop a Mk3s ass in just about every way unless you just want a highway cruiser and space.
don't get me wrong, I love Mk3s but I'm talking you out of buying one like you said so you can get a faster, better handling, more stylish (most would agree but it's subjective ofc), newer tech and probably a better engine, better layout, lighter weight, and arguably the more fun car

based Toyota gods give me energy

A neighbor of a friend wants to give me an '86 MR2 for free. He took the car without papers as payment for a debt like 4 years ago, and it does technically run and drive. It's an auto with a 4AGE, but it's leaking shitloads of oil apparently. The area inbetween the valve cover humps for the cams was full of oil.

He says it starts no problem, and runs well you just need to feed it oil. With only 148,000 miles on it, I hope he's right.

The car is practically rust free (thanks cali) and everything is there, full interior and everything.

I'm going back tomorrow afternoon to check it out more and see if I can get it started, what should I check for? I'm a Datsun guy with a small side of classic Honda, not a Toyota guy. Any idea of what the leak could be as well? Also I'll upload as many pics as I can.

The real question is, is it the valve cover? If it is, yay, happy day. But if it's not (and I think it's not since the car had literally DOZENS of empty quart bottles of oil in the forward trunk), I might be fucked.

Do 4AGE's eat rod bearings or other major oiling related things early in mileage?
>>
>>17274221
do it, the AE92 GT-S is a great car. My old neighbor has one, she's daily driven it since '91, she has over 380'000 miles on it.
>>
>>17274223
Only one way to find out. If the 4AGE's fucked, get another one and do a 5-speed swap

Or use it as-is and make it a Lemons racer :^]
>>
>>17274228
I already have the 280ZX as a project and the '17 Corolla. I want it bad because the AE92 is the closest I'll get to my old FX16 but fuck, I already have a project
>>
>>17274239
Think of it like this: if you get it running and driving reliably, you have a car you can loan to people who need it, or a good backup car. It's a solid choice, and honestly not that much is busted there. Go for it $600 in clean $20's does a lot to make a person want to sell, and then you've got $400 to reasonably spend to get it up to snuff.
>>
>>17274283
>loaning out your car to normies
ISHYGDDT

Garage space is my issue, as I only have a two-car garage. I'd need to get rid of my 280ZX to get the AE92. Believe me, I want it though

Brisbane.

Didn't sell the plates, had to surrender them to Roads and Maritime Services when the car was transferred interstate. NSW is a cunt of a state when it comes to personalised plates. Kinda glad to be rid of them to be honest, after I bought them, a gang called the "Apex gang" in Melbourne started getting a lot of publicity. Didn't want to be associated with that.

Just drove it desu. Was only a 1250km journey, did it over two days. You could do the drive to Darwin but it would probably be pretty ass, look into car shipping if you don't want to. <$1000 to get it from Brisbane to Darwin I'd say.

Really? Do you drive an R33 Skidline or something? I was heading north on Sandgate Road a little while ago and turned right down toward the Entertainment Centre, I remember a bloke in a Skidline or Silvia or something on the other side of the intersection stopped at the red light heading south.
>>
>>17279166
Well and truly more than that, lol. Think another 50% on top of that once all was said and done after import tax and compliance and all that. The body itself is pretty exceptional though, and when you consider that most of the imported Truenos and Levins in good condition are pushing $20k and sometimes over, I think I've done alright. $10k usually seems to be the shitters these days.

Some bloke was selling his BEAMS swapped Trueno on Facebook for $25k the other month, and the ones up on Carsales at the moment are listed at $30k. Fuckin clowns.
