fuck me i have ordered 3 passenger side shift cables and none of them have fit. Ordered a mkII and mkI shift cable, both were way too long. Since the driver side cable seemed to be the right size I might have a welder look at making it an adjustable passenger side cable.

this and somehow mounting this shit assed engine is making it seem like I'll be stuck driving my Accord forever.

If I finish the welding shit my life might become somewhat easier. What are your guys' thoughts on foglights, I want to install some when I paint this bitch black

Anyone have any good suggestions for stuff I should do/add to the pickup?

Lift/flares/bigger tires are planned, but its gonna be a while as I'll save up and get it done properly with fibreglass flares, the exact wheels I want, really good tires and a legal lift-kit

Bullbar is currently in transit and will be here next week, which will get two lights put on it

That would eventually come together with the lift, flares and whatnot as thats when I'll try my luck at bringing the pickup into more serious offroading

>>17157821
At one point I'll slap ideally a 1KD-FTV engine into it, aka a better version of the engine currently in it (2KD-FTV), meaning a power increase from 102hp/240nm to 170hp/410nm. This however depends on wether or not I will be able to get it legally approved. If not I'll just get a newer 2KD-FTV and slap it in, giving a power increase from 102hp/240nm to 143hp/343mm and not being a problem to get approved as its the exact same engine but with a few different internals and settings

If you're anywhere in western EU, it might be worth to check, I don't know if he ships abroad, I went there in person, but if you plan on buying a bunch of those it might be worth a few hours to drive there.

The car really is cool in its original state and doesn't need tons of bodykit or widebody to look good. Some invisible mods under the hood and a sports suspension and it's goat. I have TRD suspension and Cusco stabilizers/bushings myself, only other plan is to eventually upgrade the internals of the engine to something a little hotter (Poncams + Compression bump). Engine bay will look stock when all is said and done.

So, quick question. I've been told once that the SW20, due to its aero, is stupidly unstable at speed. Like it loses stability at 80 mph. Everything else seems attractive about the car, but 130 hp, and being unable to exceed much more than the speed limit? Is this true? That's absurdly disappointing, if so. I've owned a Corolla that could reach 120 mph completely fine with no issue. Is it never meant to go fast? Not even econobox fast?
>>
>>17163126
Not true. Fine to like 100 and then the front end gets light. If you're going to be goin 100mph+ consistently, you should look into something other than stock aero anyway. A front lip goes a long way on a car like this and can be had for nothing.

Also what is the best way to connect it?
Ghetto style, soldering and electrical tape?

I love my SC400 but these electronics are giving me a headache

>windows, sunroof, power steering, alarm, cruise control, traction control, ABS, and auto headlights don't work
>no blown fuses
>more warning lights than an average volkswagen
>A/C (R12 so $30 a bottle) is either out of freon, has a leak, or the climate control thing is busted or has bad wiring, it has a damaged screen so I can't tell what it's doing
>heat doesn't work either leading me to believe the wiring is bad
>over 9000 ECUs for every little thing (each seat has an ECU)

I knew what I signed up for with my $1200 202,000 mile car but still

My boy tugger has a spun bearing

I'm sending my crank to napa right now so I can finally finish this rebuild. Im ready to have a bulletproof 3E again and finally be able to roadtrip around Washington again
>>
>>17176132
What's the process for a spun bearing? I'm gonna try and pull my um and fix it this summer.
I figured I'd have to get a new crank and bearing set, but is there anything I should know?
>>
>>17176162
It all depends on what you want to do
If you want to go the easiest route id say do an engine swap a low miles motor. A lot of toyotas have drop if motors from the same family or you can build hybrids like the 5efte or 7age
If your crank is the issue you can buy a forged crank or new one. The cheapest way for me is to just have it turned but then Im going to have to run oversized bearings. And also Im having my connecting rods checked out.

If you want to do it in detail make sure to measure every part yourself and compare with the big green book

Also if youre down there replace piston rings, every gasket, shave the head, ect
And make sure the valvetrain can handle the rebuild because if one part is running how it did out of the factory you the risk of damaging the older part

I've got a 94' Tercel 2 door
Me and my buddies are trying to figure out a swap for it right now.
We've got 2 donor cars a 99' and 97' corolla.
Which would be the easiest to fit do you think the 1zz-fe or the 7AFE?
Both have the same 5 speed transaxle, but packaging and tuning wise which engine would best?

Also the car currently has the 3E-E and a 4 speed manual do you think that's worth selling or should just junk it?
Complete rebuild kits are 175$ off rockauto so we could rebuild it before selling it and the transaxle is good condition.

I know noone gives a fuck but I just bought a 1991 turbo MR2 and it 'did' run perfectly.
Two days later I'm on the highway when I smelled burning and pulled over,
The 20 seconds it took to dart over to a exit a horribly loud spun bearing knocking noise occurs, and a equally as bad screeching noise as well.
Had it towed but I don't know what to do now, just my luck

>seller probably knew about this and replaced the spun bearing just to make it last a few days

Oh he does, never missed an oil change in 398000km (and counting), and every bushing, belt has been replaced in due time. There isn't a single rattle or suspect noise, just some of the interior plastic when driving on speedbumps.

Also no rust, at all, the undercarriage is treated ever 2-3 years or so.

yeah seventh gear has weird syncros, it usually helps if you wiggle the paddle shifter a bit.

V8 best trim. when you test drive it make sure the carburatour is working. You can tell by listening to the engine when redlining while cold. If all six cylinders fire you're good.

The easiest swap to do is the 4efte its got 135 hp out of the box and theres a ton state side if that's where you are. The wiring harness can be changes very easily to fit it or you can get a plug and play from gt revva for about 400$ if you send in your harness and the 4efte. He also has every kind of tercel/paseo/starlet part along with a rear disk conversion. Look into larger gen 1 paseo brakes because you can run 11inch front rotors on yours. Theres some good add ons for the 4th gen. If youre doing the swap with the donor cars id say go with the 1zz ive seen it done before but don't know what it would entail. The cheapest option would be a 4efte or a 5efe/5efhe the 5efe just needs the slightest harness mod to accommodate it and its really easy to drop in. Also the 3e e head fits on the 5efe block which has 1mm larger pistons and will raise your compression
>>
>>17176701
It was my first car and had a lot of issues that added up, coolant and oil leak, when it ran it got so bad itd leak 1 drop of coolant a second and 1 drop of oil every 3 seconds. It was only one bearing and not too bad, I thought the issue was in the head/piston rings so this was a shock

4efte sounds like a pain cuz turbo
could go 4ag or 7ag for easy n/a power
>>
>>17184671
4efte is the easiest swap, its a from the factory turbo with the top mount intercooler. All of the mounts line up you just need to take the brackets from your old motor. I don't have access to a welder or anything for custom mounts but a 4age is the second most common swap
Just going to be a bit more custom work with cutting

For every inch the tire size is larger from and wider from factory, take off one MPG, even with regearing the axles.

Yep.
Engine's fucked. Pulled oil pan, metal pieces absolutely everywhere.
I suspect more than the crank/rods was messed up, the metal pieces probably made their way up and destroyed all kinds of stuff, can't get the car to idle without lots of throttle and probably the worst noises I've ever heard.

My pan is to buy a JDM imported 3rd gen 3sgte, I've found one with the engine, all of the wiring, turbo transmission, and turbo axles/hubs along with some subframe parts ~ 2800$ [on a side note why are the turbo axles so stupid expensive]
I would be happy to buy right away, but I sorta bought the car at a fair price due to it being fully functional. I didn't expect it to implode 2 days after having the car. I'm going to end up paying way more money than I want, and with the same money could probably find a very nice MR2 hassle free. The problem is I can't just throw away the MR2 I have now, yes it's now worthless, but I still invested a bunch of money into it.
Another option is to get a gen4 3sgte + tranny rebuild for 1800$- But practically every single person I've seen says go with a 3rd gen.
Tough decisions when you have to spend minimum wage money

What this guy said. Make sure it's totally not salvagable. Boring and sleeving a cylinder to correct for nasty marks from metal shards, plus changing out the dead top end could save you a ton of money and bump up your bhp. Since a lot of shit on 3G engines is interchangeable, look at picking up some danker parts while you're rebuilding.

If you get the facelift version it's a pretty cool car. People look at your car like it's a racecar though and it doesn't have all that much power. Cornering in it is fun as shit though since it sits so low, and it's surprisingly practical for it's looks.
>>
>>17154236
Reliability is pretty good if you get one with a revised engine. Don't get one with the original engine, as said it burns oil like mad.

do you guys think AW11s will increase dramatically in price in the next 5 years? I want to own both an SW20 and an AW11 at some point but I have a lingering feeling that if I wait too long to get the AW11 they'll be much more expensive than what would be worth spending on them.

also how different is it to drive an AW11 compared to the SW20? I know the AW11 is a lot lighter so people find them fun to throw around, but are there handling characteristics where the SW20 beats the AW11? I don't really care about speed so that's why I'm asking.

Yea, I'm leaning towards gen3 engine/tranny/axle/hubs combo 2800$ from Japan
Even if this engine does have a fucked bearing do you think I can sell the gen2 engine/tranny for 700$? It would really help with the cost of the new engine

Rims on this now are probably stolen Mexican rims, oh and the 17 year old tires go nice with it too (how even)

I've been DD'ing a 7th gen for over four years now. Have put > 70k on it myself, and had 60 on it when I bought it. 130k in, and it runs great still. I feed it a diet of midgrade, and change its oil every 3k miles. I've had zero mechanical issues whatsoever, just typical wear items.

They are great looking cars, IMHO. Interior is nice too. I think interior quality is important, as that's the view I look at 99% of the time...

Handling is great. Like on rails.

Is obviously not the fastest car on the road, but for what I bought it for (daily transportation 60+ miles each way to work), I'm not expecting to drive 120+... I've gotten it to 108 or so on a couple occasions, and thats about all it had. Mine is a GT, so the GTS obviously has a lot more oomph. My weekend fun car is an FD, so I get kicks driving it, and I trust my Celica to get me back and forth to work every single day, rain, snow or shine. Totally different purposes for both vehicles.

I'd buy another 7th gen Celica in an instant. In fact, I've been moderately seriously searching for a good condition 7th gen GTS w/ manual transmission. They do not come up often on eBay or other sites, so its taking time to find a suitable one.

I'd recommend the 7th gen Celica any day.

Just picked up this guy a week ago. 1987 slicktop with a 20v blacktop. Shell has 104k miles and the engine has 59k.

any things I should look out for when I check out the car? any common problems with this model?
>>
>>17212970
As a rule, inline 6 engines are more susceptible to warpage. Beyond that, I would say to anticipate anything and everything going wrong. Remember, this car is more than 30 years old.

Beyond that, find a manual. New autos are pretty slick but the autos in these old cars are just balls to drive and really hamstring the already slow car.

>>

I could but I would have to pay for a parking spot and a tow from my apartment to the school. Not really excited about the project anymore anyways

I got it with the motor already in (super cheap) and the swap was done so horribly its shocking, didn't know a ton about cars back then though.
