With motorcycle themed shit you mostly get ripped the fuck off. Consider HD MC boots, which are regular-ass made in Taiwan work boots only with an HD logo a different coating and they cost $275 instead of $45.

Are really small bikes, like 200cc, not great starter bikes like we've all told ourselves?

Sure, they're really easy to learn on. Yes, they're lighter and more forgiving, making it easier to recover if you fuck up.

On the other hand, they're so easy to ride that as soon as a new rider gets comfortable with the fundamentals it's too easy to get overconfident.

I did way more sketchy things on my 200 than I ever did on my 650, right up to the day I sold it. The 650 actually intimidated me so I took it a lot easier. The 200 felt like a toy.

>>
>>17210338
honestly, i think its important to learn how to appreciate a small meme bike. i think if in the us, every rider stayed below 45 horse (650 one banger) for the first 2-3 years of their riding career is important. learning how to get by with technique instead of raw power. ive only been riding about 3 years now, and riding a small boike and being stupid on it, has actually given me a lot of self restraint, and taught me how to slow down and appreciate the quality of a nice ride, rather than the speed. dont get me wrong, racing through twisties is fun, but if that's all you're doing, i think you're missing out on a lot of scenery that you could appreciate more if you had to be stuck behind a car. but thats just my two cents
>>

>>
>>17210338

Yes and no. They're perfectly fine and a lot of people like the smaller CC bikes but most riders outgrow them. They'll get great MPGs and it's kinda fun to whip around a shitty little bike but you'll be able to ride them flat out without killing yourself easier than a larger bike.

Is a bike's transmission supposed to be hot?
I feel like that's probably a part that shouldn't be hot.
I let my bike sit for a while, and the exhaust and engine were cold. But the bottom end was still hot. The crank case, by the chain, and the starter.

Am I just overthinking? The oil's probably settling in the bottom.
>>
>>17210418
K5 is supposed to be their entry level helmet, where as veloce is the mid level helmet and is basically a more touring version of the Corsa.
>>
>>17210482
I agree. Speed isn't everything. Sometimes when I ride and the weather is nice and all is well, I look up into the sky and think about how beautiful bikes are, and how lucky I am to own one. It almost makes me tear up. Even though I'm on a 125
>>
>>17210528
not to mention it really makes you double think passing once you get a big bike. if you decide you have to pass someone, you really have to think about it on a small bike, especially if its not a perfectly clean flat straight away
>>
>>17210482

I hear what you're saying. I definitely appreciate slow bikes, and enjoying your scenery and surroundings is a huge part of riding in my opinion. It's hard for me to be objective because I started on a 2-stroke 80cc off road, upgraded to a 125cc two stroke, and by the time I got my first street legal bike (a 200cc four stroke) I was way overconfident. I rode flat out and generally flogged the hell out of that bike. Had two collisions with other cars, and definitely was at least part to blame both times. I rode over curbs, split lanes in inappropriate situations, darted through gaps in traffic, and was generally reckless. I probably toned it down a little over time, but I don't remember for sure.

When I sold the 200 and bought my 650 at 19 (even then just a single cylinder ~35-40hp bike) it intimidated the hell out of me. I was a lot more cautious from day one, took my time getting used to it, gave myself lots of space, and honestly haven't had any close calls that were my fault at all since.

Still appreciate just cruising around, exploring my environment though. I could get on the interstate and rail my commute out at 85mph, but when I ride to work I find myself cruising through low traffic surface streets and taking alternate routes, puttering around at the speed limit and taking in all the sights, sounds, and smells. Sometimes on the way home I just get distracted and end up wandering part of the city for a half hour or more.

Good brand of gloves for a noob?

>>

That relay looks solid state but may be mechanical and sealed. Being a four pin that means one power and one ground to operate the relay and one power and one output to feed the fuel pump.
That means it could be replaced with a common relay. Now ya need to find which wires go to which connections on the socket.

Then you can jump the power to the fuel pump at the socket. If pump runs, it's either the relay or an issue with the power and ground switching that relay.

Here's my response from the previous thread in case ya missed it:

Is this correct? http://zx6r.com/service-manuals/12588-1995-1997-kawasaki-zx-6r-service-manual.html

The download link is good.

Relay is an oddball shape so check on the forums to see if anyone has replaced it with a common Bosch style relay.

You can map the relay socket noting power and ground and if any aren't used by comparing to the schematic even though the relay isn't marked.

I'd just open the fucker and know for sure then keep it for troubleshooting.

You can usually pop the cover off most relays with a sharp pocket knife then use that relay to see if it's getting power to operate. I don't know about that one but if it were mine I'd open the fucker and get a replacement to eliminate the relay since you know the pump works. You can also manually actuate most relays with the cover removed by pushing it with something non-conductive. Relays are cheap and having a test relay in your stash is useful. Don't forget to double check your fuses, and check fuse block for corrosion where fuses plug in.

There are lots of fuel pump threads for the Googling:

Use this search term: "zx600 fuel pump relay"

me and a buddy have tested every wire involving the fuel pump and the relay, were getting power, ground, and continuity. we're having a problem 100% saying its the relay. I've been searching kawi forums and not many answers have been helpful, and i did find one thread where he seems to be having the same problem as me, but no one ended up answering it.

Alright, ill just use my Mechanix gloves.

So question about helmet sizing:

Do i buy a helmet a size bigger than what i would wear or should i buy exact size and expect it to break in so it fits looser?

Coworker was telling me thst different helmet brands fit people differently and to expect the helmets to loosen up a little bit as theyre broken in.
>>
>>17210773
the correct size will feel a little too snug at first, but there shouldn't be any specific pressure points.

It should feel snug, but not uncomfortable. The padding compresses a bit over time.
>>
>>17210750
In that case since you know what goes where, I'd use a heavy duty Bosch relay and socket from an auto parts store and solder the socket wires to the connections inside the old relay after cutting it open, obvious objective to save the connector. That way you won't disturb your harness. Common Bosch relays are used for car fuel pumps and are likely an upgrade. Harley uses them for starter relays.

A cutting wheel on a Dremel or angle grinder works well for gently opening such things. Start far away from the connector to see what's inside.

What are your results jumping the relay to port power to the pump?

If you put a test light between the switched power to the relay and the ground for that power and turn on the ignition, does it light?
>>
>>17210817
im considering getting a regular relay, but i dont know if me or my buddy can read this diagram well enough to try to put in a standard relay.

also, a bit of a silly question; theres no way the carbs on my bike can send an electrical signal telling the fuel pump to kick on, can they? As far as I can tell, its simply the coil sending a signal to the relay to tell it when to kick the fuel pump on.

is there anything I can be missing before I go trying to put in a regular relay in there?

Were currently ohm testing the relay to what my fsm says, and currently im getting literally no readings from the relay at all.
>>
>>17210846
i dont have a test light, but we used the multimeter to get a reading of the switched power by blipping the starter button, i dont have the starter unhooked, so i only blipped it for a second, with key turned power on the signal wire read 0. When I did blip the throttle, i did get a reading of I believe 6v before I let go of the starter switch, didnt want it to crank for more than a second.

I want to take a motorbike for a LONG journey. 1k Miles, across borders.

Obviously a touring-motorcycle would be best for this, but I'm wondering whether I could do the same on a scooter?

An additional question. I want to take a lot of stuff with me so I want a trailer at the back of my motorcycle. Could a scooter do this?

Thanks in advanced.

can it be done on a scooter? probably
with a trailer? no, i garuntee that no scooter has the brakes for it. everyone says "oh you need so much power to get a trailer going"
not really, a trailer at most weighs a few hundred pounds, and thats basically the weight of a large passenger. but you have to stop these few hundred pounds, and thats where you want a disk brake in back and dual disk brakes in front, and plus, a motorcycle's manual transmission will make it a lot easier to chug along with your weight, because you can down shift and really scream the engine up a steep hill if you have to.
also if you've never done a long ride, start doing them. if your first ride longer than an hour or two is a 12 hour ride, youll be miserable

Yes it can be done on a scooter, just gonna take a while. I've personally never seen a scooter with panniers though, but maybe there are saddle bags that fit. But why bring so much shit?
Don't get a trailer, just don't. A scooter will not like it in any way.

I'm currently on a trip, done about 2200km. Will do at least 800km more, maybe 4000km. I just get on my bike and go, looking for the nice roads. Half the time I'm below the speed limit, because I just can't go any faster on those roads.

What? The seat height is pretty low on those. Do you have stumpy legs and a giraffe neck or something?
>>

I know 5'11'' is slightly above average, but I just have an average inseam. Can't get both heels down on a ZX-6R. Maybe I could in boots, but not otherwise.

Under 10 is low, 10-30 is medium/normal, 30+ is high.
>>

60k is high for a street bike. 30k is medium and anything under 30k is pretty low.

>>17211883
Flat footing isn't a big deal anyway. I wear 32" inseam jeans (and like 30" inseam in dress pants) and ride a dual sport with a 38" seat height with no problems holding the bike up in normal road situations. I also have a sport bike with a 32.7" seat (about the same as that zx) which is maximum easy mode.
>>

I clear my seat by like 2" and never put either foot down flat anyways.

60k is low for a Honda.

maybe. For an average sport bike from an average craigslist seller it will probably have a bunch of shit that needs fixing by that point.

Speaking of which. Is the VMax 1200 as reliable as normal sport bikes? Should I expect at least 100k miles before a major overhaul?
>>
>>17212048
>Speaking of which. Is the VMax 1200 as reliable as normal sport bikes? Should I expect at least 100k miles before a major overhaul?
wow just did some reading on the forums. People seem lucky to get 80k out of them without transmission or engine failures. What the fuck. I was considering picking one up with ~50k miles but that's really concerning.
>>
I recently got a Grom with a 186cc big bore kit, the bike has 700 miles on it and the BBK has 200 miles on it. The previous owner is pretty sharp mechanically and is sponsored by a few different companies for the various bikes/cars he does work on.

Anyways, he told me to keep it under 7k RPM while the BBK is broken in, but I'm not sure at what point the engine is considered "broken in" or if there's another step the to breaking in process after that.

Some granny ran a red light and I had to brake pretty hard, put way too much front brakes and it flipped. Shifter broke, key got pretty bent and doesn't come out, and the rear tire wobbles a bit.

Never been in an accident before so I hope someone can help me some questions I have.

I still owed like 2.5k on it, who the hell pays that now? The police report says the driver was at fault. I'm lawyering up just in case too, will I get a new baiku or what?

>>
>>17213146
le reddit intellects are not intelligence.
city people tend to be useless cunts incapable of thinking for themselves.
They need to be told what to do constantly and couldnt think for themselves to save their own lives because they always relied on someone else telling them what to do and how to do it.

Country people tend to be able to do anything you tell them to do, they will figure out a way of getting it done.

So which person is actually smarter when you ignore reddit maymay intellects?

any reccomendations for a motorcycle, under 100 hp, with good luggage options? it would spend a lot of time puttering from place to place, picking up this and that, and even holding fishing gear, usually not more than an hour on freeway at a time, but a few times a year a trip anywhere from 600 km to 1400 (1200-2800 km round trip)
95% of itj job would be running up to the fishing hole with enough room to hold my waders, a pair of boots and some fly boxes, then exchange that for my helmet, kneepads, jacket, and riding boots, or running to the store for a few odds and ends, puttering over to work, and going out to visit friends, so i want a bike that can be tame working through city traffic, but then i want to be able to turn around, drop the luggage, go for a run up some twisties with some buddies, then every now and then tour to new jersey, north carolina, or even florida with a few fishing rods and stay either with friends or family down there for a week or two of fishing (jersey is about a 7 hour ride, north carolina is about 12 hours, and florida i think would be a 10 hour day then an 8 hour day, and wouldnt be a yearly thing, but nj and north carolina probably would)
i also considered a v-strom, and i'd rather stay under a liter bike aswell

Ever been on a litre sportsbike? It will blow your mind if you've been riding a small bike for a while. Cornering high in the rpm is a lot different because it will lift the front very easily at rather high speeds.
I still think a r15 is too small, it has no real drive in any situation and the handling is no better than other lightweight bikes like the ninja 300 or certain supermotos. I would just keep riding your cb100 until you can get a bigger bike or find a lower cc supermoto ($) or convert one if you can find a trail version you can road register, they will probably give you the feeling you like from low cc bikes.

I am going to turbo my stupid 113.5cc bored up to 155.5cc FI scooter with an RHF3 (it is a twin scroll and ball bearing).
This is the list of what I think I should do, tell me if I miss something.

- Make the exhaust only goes to one of the turbo scrolls
- Plenum 4x of the displacement
- It has 9.3:1 comp ratio, I think it is safe for 7 pound of boost?
- retard the timing based on boost level
- make injector spray longer based on boost level (do I need to upsize the injector?)
- fuel pressure regulator
- more powerful fuel pump
- oil cooler and line going to the turbo

I am still thinking whether I should make the MAP sensor stop at overboost (using zener diode at 4.3v or 4.7v) or just set the wastegate to open at 7 psi of boost.

Thoughts?

If the tarbo will be of any significant size relative to the engine then you'll be having some rather fun times with the throttle response and turbo lag.
Not sure how the transmission might handle the increased power, or rather the inevitably different power curve. You'll probably want to retune the controller so it keeps the engine at lower revs.

Those are definitely nice bikes, but I'm open to anything, really.

Fazer 800/1000
Tracer 900?

If you're looking for something different, not necessarily faster then you may indeed consider a big V-twin, for more low-end oomph but less high-end ecstasy. However for comfies you may want to stick with a four banger.

Or

You can be a special snowflake and get a triumph triple

what kind of chink bike is this?

Looks like a Moto3 KTM without the fairings.

cbt next week, I drive and cycle regularly, what do I need to know to not fuck it up

Do NOT target fixate. Remember what uncle Hudson told you: turn right to go left

>more low-end oomph but less high-end ecstasy

Yep, that's exactly why I'm looking for something else than my current 4-cyl bike.

I've been commuting on highways for quite some time now and it really takes the fun out of motorcycling imho,
which is why I'd like to stick to a car for commuting and use a bike to have some fun on country roads and the like.

A 2-cyl bike would probably be better suited for that.

It is 58.5mm x 57.9mm now, before it was indeed an undersquare at 50.0mm x 57.9mm.
>>
>>17214390
I've got counter steering down, it's piss easy when you actually understand it.
>>
So I got the K5, now where do I get a good visor that doesn't cost a fortune? Been looking around and they are either expensive, or just plain clear visors. Want something you can't see through one way
>>
>>17214371
Have you had any lessons at all before now?
You literally only need 1-2 hours in a car park but it is painful watching someone trying to learn to ride for the first time on a cbt.

>>17214390
Don't listen to this guy, you won't go anywhere near fast enough for countersteering to be needed, and in the carpark section it won't work. Target fixation is a big problem for newbies though.
>>
>>17214417
What, you ugly?
>>
>>17214418
never (closest is some quad-bike stuff) but the place I'm taking it does a full day teaching you to ride so I'm not too bothered about that

>>17214451
Remember to pin the throttle in second and drop the clutch to show your instructor that you don't need instruction and assert your dominance by looping the bike and whipping your dick out

CB300F vs CB500F as first bike? I hear a lot of "you'll be bored with a 300 after a few months", but it is almost 2000 more, and 70lbs heavier...
>>
>>17214780
you've clearly already decided to get the 300 so just get it

The CB500 is a very nice bike. I test rode the F and my buddy rides the X. I think it would be a better option than the 300.
>but it is almost 2000 more
Im sure the 300 is fine too. Then again, you should buy a used bike for your first, specially if you are concerned about price.
>>
>>17214780
Just get a prior year new cb500 most places have them in stock still for just barely more than a current year new 300 hell I still see 2015s in stock
>>
>>17214780
git the cb500

you'll be just like Schaaf!
no you wont
>>
>>17214780
CBR250r. You can buy them very cheaply because nobody wants to buy a second hand 250 so the demand is low.
I'm trying to sell mine since October, but granted I don't really make an effort because I quite like riding it even after getting an SV. it's just fun to bully and torture it for being such a slow manlet of a bike and seeing it cry as you go WOT in a vain attempt to get it to 140. You don't get that with a 650. A 650 is like "oh you want 150? Well okay you cunt we're going 160. Now piss off"

SV1000 seems to be the perfect fit for that.
