>>
>>17180646
You realize that on specific tracks the superior power will win every time, pretty sure you've never driven a challenger or you'd refrain from making that post
>>
>>17180602
>American friendly

This isn't an American thing. There is no benefit to losing torque the more rpm goes into it. Torque should ideally be a flat line through the entire acceleration.
>>
>>17180675
For example here's a Honda civic si. Note the shape of the torque line. The jump in torque and power at the end is the vtec

The civic si is relatively flat comparatively
>>
>>17180666

I've daily driven an R/T for five years. I've raced on closed courses against GT86s and beaten them.

They cost about the same, weigh only a few hundred pounds less, and have far less horsepower than my fat land barge and can't outrun it.

That's fucking retarded. I have an obese, pig of a car on stock tires with stock suspension and I can outrun the so called Gawd Masheen.
>>
>>17180726
Dude a challenger rt wright's 4200. The brz weighs 2700 that's not a few hundred pounds that's 1500lbs
>>
>>17180726

I mean, seriously, the Challenger is built to chew up miles on the highway. The turn radius sucks and it body rolls so bad above 30 that it makes hairpin corners nauseating and I can still win a race on track with, at most, two hundred feet of straight aways.

The 86 is absolute garbage.
>>
>>17180735

Jesus, that's even more depressing. I mean, you're looking at a 1500 pound advantage and can't overtake a land yacht.
>>
>>17180741
Maybe because your land barge produces a fuck ton more power and torque thanks to its huge engine with wicked displacement. This comparison is literally apples and oranges. Second of all the challenger is 8k more than the brz so there's more different here than you first made out.
>>
>>17180675
>There is no benefit to losing torque
No shit Sherlock.
>Torque should ideally be a flat line
I don't give a shit, I know how to keep it in the powerband, and so do 99% of the owners. Only benchracers and people who don't know how to drive act like this is an issue.
>>
>>17180778
>I don't give a shit, I know how to keep it in the powerband, and so do 99% of the owners.
When you shift at a red line you literally shift into the ass end of this torque dip

Saying you don't care about it is not an argument what so ever. It's a glaring flaw you have no response to so you just feign ignorance
>>
>>17180786
>When you shift at a red line you literally shift into the ass end of this torque dip
If you skip 3 gears maybe, lmao.
>Saying you don't care about it is not an argument what so ever. It's a glaring flaw you have no response to so you just feign ignorance
I don't think you know what you're talking about to be quite honest.
>>
>>17180761

For one, a Premium package is in the dame price range as a base R/T. For two, 1500 pounds and 175 horsepower of difference SHOULD balance out pretty evenly. For three, this fucking car was billed to be a competitor to the Miata and shit as a track coupe.

For the record, I raced an ND Miata and lost on a road course because it could take corners twice as fast as I could. That means that the 86 has subpar suspension and steering rack to a fucking MASSIVE Challenger on an old Mercedes platform.

It's only apples to oranges in that this is a comparison of American and Japanese sports cars. They fit the same criteria in classification being 2+2 sports coupes. They have different engineering priorities being power and weight, respectively.

You're trying to argue that they are so radically different that they shouldn't be compared, but this is a battle design philosophies in cars with similar costs, concepts, and consumers.

The fact is that the Gt86 is 3k less, 175hp weaker, 1500lbs lighter, and can't outmaneuver a dated, bloated, and anemic competitor.

There is no reason to own one unless you're an autist with an Itashi wrap and a Dakimakura in the passenger seat so you can take the HOV lane to your job at McDonald's.

How do you know it wasn't babby's first track day? Maybe you could have done much better who knows. Fact of the matter is you're literally grasping at straws trying to rationalize why your challenger handles "better" and no challengers are not underpowered just bigg.
>>17180847
Not upset just trying to understand other anon's frustration
>>
>>17180822
This. I'm actually looking into getting a challenger as my next car but even I know the 86 is going to handle better around curves. There are a lot of tracks where horsepower and traction are more important than chassis and weight dynamics, but that doesn't mean the challenger is an all around better car. If you're going down a toegay the 86 will definitely win. However even my v6 Accord can beat the 86 on tracks with a lower frequency of turns. (Btw Challenger is more comfy for a 6'3 American and I like stoplight pulls)
>>
>>17180905
Never thought shitposting payed so well, congrats you little vegan
>>
>>17180778
>I know that, but I don't care
This is fucking stupid. If they actually gave a shit and fixed it you would get 15% better torque which means 15% better acceleration and since work times torque is power you'd get at least 10% better power out of this thing after the differential loss. You don't daily drive at your red line every day and your power band is extremely narrow
>>
>>17180862
>Not upset
Stop lying hun. We can see right through you
>>
>>17180862

Holy shit, you're deluded if you think 375hp out of a 5.7L engine isn't underpowered - especially when moving 4500lbs.

But anecdotes or not, I am not a skilled track driver. I'm bad at following lines and I have an awful tendency of braking into a corner too early. I spoke to people at the track since I have some modest social skills, too. The guy with the 86 was a coworker who convinced me to come out after i raped him in a wuarter mile and he wanted to prove his car wasn't complete shit.

They don't fucking handle well. I've driven them. They have shit feedback and their turn radius feels somehow worse than my fat Dodge.

Which is why
>>17180905
Is fucking wrong. The Challenger is better in the corners, apparently. It can't outmaneuver a fucking Camaro, but it can beat the 86 pretty consistently even when straights aren't long enough to make up for lost time.
>>

would far rather have a fun RWD car that I can throw around at 30mph than a fucking boat. I don't give a shit if it goes round a track fast or if it goes fast in a straight line. It's just fun to drive.

I don't even own this, I own the AE86 which is nicer to drive but all 80s-90s cars are.

Take a fucking physics class you dumb faggot. The maximum acceleration is equal to the amount of torque you put down on the wheels

If you had that extra absent torque you keep defending you wouldn't have to worry about staying in your lower band when you can stay at max torque no matter what rpm giving you way more tolerance to play with. You are a fucking hipster pretending to be an enthusiast while trying to claim that real enthusiasts don't care about their numbers times and other metrics that define the performance they're so interested in. Fuck off you fake ass faggot
>>
>>17180996

>if I deny his credibility, maybe I'll win

Nigger, in my very first post I outlined the immense body roll and speed limitations the Challenger has to deal with in corners. Do you suffer from short term memory loss, or did you actually think I'd forget what I had already argued.

I said the 86 feels like it handles worse - mostly because they're just as wide with skinnier tires and lighter weight. The steering rack feels fucked up in an 86. At least the Challenger just feels numb.

Besides that, I know I can take a hairpin at 30 and most gradual turns at around 40 to 50 depending on their steepness. That's shit compared to most cars, but it was good enough to almost let me lap my coworker in a 1.5 mile track after five laps.

Why don't you try making an actual argument instead of excuses?
>>
Not to interrupt this "heated" discussion here but I think my 02 Eldorado is faster than the 86. Around the corners I have no clue.

More torque in that range gives you a much wider power band. This also means that in that range assuming the torque was fixed you'd get better gas mileage and better efficiency through that band early on because of it. You engine would lug less and you'd accelerate way better

How's the Rev hang? All bullshit aside they're good balanced cars, you just won't get the same connection to the road as an 86

>>17181195
A wider power band increases convenience, not performance. Gas mileage and efficiency at 4000 RPM? I shift between 2500 and 3000 RPM if I want to be economical. I don't lug my engine AT ALL, I downshift, but I guess that'd be too much inconvenience for the American, am I right? And then there's the "you'd accelerate better" argument that you still haven't explained.
>>

>>17181234

>>
>>17181229
To my understanding 2015+ WRX's seem to have a rev hang, I didn't notice when I test drove but then again I didn't redline the shit out of it. They're alot more efficient with the power than before just little heavier and not as pretty to look at. Wish the steering was tightened up a bit maybe it's jus AWD car problems
>>
>>17181229

Rev hang is EPA mandated, since it decreases emissions by a fraction of a percent. Unless you're running a custom tune that specifically addresses this, it's there. You probably just aren't the type of driver that notices stuff like that. I haven't found a car newer than '05 that I felt had good throttle response, even with tunes. Drive by wire throttle bodies are just not as good as cable throttles.

I also have high standards considering Im not anything special. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I also don't eat like trash. I expect my partner to be the same. I could probably bang this girl at school but she has messed up teeth, a bone disease, and she is kind of dumb, so her genetics would not be good for my kids. >>
>>17181343
No its not. According to many users who have actually went out of their way to fix the issue, replacing the headers and doing an appropriate tune has fixed the torque canyon and gave them a small 5-10hp jump over the stock configuration including in the torque.
>>
>>17181426
if you follow the stock vs custom header dyno. The custom headers gain a pretty good chunk of power all along the end of the power band

remember torque * work = power. Increasing torque increases power

>>17181445

clearly this isn't an issue on the WRX which produces more power with its turbo which means more emissions. Emissions clearly aren't the issue here.

The WRX uses the same exact engine, albeit with different headers and intakes and a few other things mixed with a turbo that must obviously burn more gas which produces more exhaust which means more emissions.
>>
>>17181450
It's more than just different headers you fool, and the WRX has problems of its own ie; rev hang.
>>
>>17181426
You've got it ass backwards, you're not "fixing the torque canyon", you're changing the entire torque curve by replacing crucial parts. A manufacturer can't just do that to "simply fix the torque dip", like some people have been asking for. If you want your headers replaced, you'll have to get it done yourself.
>>
>>17181460
>A manufacturer can't just do that to "simply fix the torque dip"
clearly its really simple if some joe shmoe in his garage can easily replace some headers and do a dinky tune he got from some online forum.

>>17181459
if Rev hang is EPA mandated then the brz must also have it
>>
>>17181460
Dude its just headers.
>replacing crucial parts

subaru can't just put a better header on it? The engineers that engineered the engine couldn't ENGINEER a solution? they couldn't just tune the ECU like they did to begin with?
>>
>>17181479
>clearly its really simple if some joe shmoe in his garage can
Do you really think the same rules and regulations apply to Joe Shmoe?
>>17181484
>subaru can't just put a better header on it?
Do you really think they wouldn't have done it from the start if it was as easy as physically replacing a part? I can't tell you exactly which reason they had to use this particular setup of intake and exhaust system, but it certainly wasn't "let's go out of our way to make this engine worse than it could be for the same money and effort". As with everything these days, it's probably a result of emission regulations and financial constraints. If upgraded headers are permitted in your country, go ahead, but Toyota/Subaru wants to sell this as it is in every industrialized country of the world and not have to engineer a different ideal header for every market.

And besides, no matter what they use, there will always be a different part that would've been "better".
>>
>>17181537
>Do you really think the same rules and regulations apply to Joe Shmoe?

>do you really think they wouldn't have done it from the start

Yeah right, that's the reason...
>toyota is lazy for putting skinny ass prius tires on the fucking gt86
That was a deliberate design choice to make it more tailhappy, there's goddamn UHP tires that are less expensive than the Primacy HPs. How the FUCK does that have anything to do with laziness?

>>17181551
Would you buy it if it was a thousand bucks more and had 5bhp more and no torque dip? It's not about bankruptcy, it's about having price targets and budgeting. It's just how the business works, and that's what the aftermarket is for.

any Header subaru provides as stock would be legal. The aftermarket is a total different question. IF they were illegal in your country they couldn't be sold legally either.
>this was a deliberate design choice
there is literally no evidence of this. Their prius tires are generic shit they only put on because their cheap as fuck. No one cares if UHP is cheaper to you, they probably aren't to toyota or what ever sponsor ship bullcrap michellin, kumho or who ever does their tires up. Find me a single document anywhere that cites toyota saying "we did that to make it more tail happy" because its only retards like you that shill for laziness because you juxtapose a reason that it must be because they wanna drift more. Its a total ruse.
