Yes, it's held on by two bolts and two struts and a cable. It's not something you can just do on a regular basis because it has to be properly aligned to drive correctly, plus the leading link forks apparently are very weird to drive on solo.
I paid $6000 for a 2006 with 12,000s on it.

Ive driven 3000kms with no issues. Just requires more preventative mainentance than a jap bike. Oil changes must be done on a regular basis, etc

There's literally no reason to use higher octane gas than is required to prevent knock, except maybe if you have Ethanol Free Premium or something, but even then who gives a fuck.

Don't. Just use what the manual recommends. I only put low octane in my DR350, that's what the engine was designed for. That, and plenty of these bikes have made it around the world on shitty gas poured from buckets in 3rd world countries. That mechanic is probably generalizing. Experiment if you want, take note of the differences. Better to just save your money and buy low grade. I've read that higher octane fuel burns slower, hotter, and increases carbon buildup. Some people with big bore kits will run higher octane, but I'm assuming yours is stock.

Went for a ride and hopped on my friends 600cc i4 after riding my 1000cc v-twin for the past year or so and it felt super gutless in comparison.

The first time was the seals that the previous owner had, I changed those with cheapo ebay ones that lasted a few months without issue, but then I bent my forks (I did a log hop, lost control, and hit a tree) for new forks on ebay, them about 6 months later those blew (I just now found them)

No helmet is good at both, dirt helmets have an extended jaw so that can dig into the dirt and you won't break your jaw when you come off, road helmets are designed to have little friction when sliding across the road.

Road helmet can be worn on dirt but you risk broken jaw/teeth and dirt helmet can be worn on road but you risk a broken neck when the extended jaw causes your head to pivot in a slide so idk.
