I have a DL-1000, it will be hard as a first bike.

Engine breaking will fuck you up, I went from a KLR650 it this and it is a big difference. Power wheelies will only happen in first outside of the you will have to clutch it. It is heavy and tall, so if you aren`t used to bikes you may drop it.

On dropping it, big bikes cost big bucks. Services are expensive for me as I am jobless. You might have more luck in that area though.

All in all, great bike. Might be a bit strong for a beginner and you might regret it if you drop it or slide out on a turn because of engine breaking

DL650 is a V-Twin with double the power.

The 1000 is a rocket ship next to my old KLR650. The brakes aren`t the bad because it is so slow. The DL650 tops out at 180kph where as the KLD is 160kph. I got the KLR because is the most reliable bike I have ever ridden.

The DL-1000 is 100% for road work, not great for off road, much like all ADV, as it is so heavy. But if you want off road get an off road. The DL is a comfy bike that can do all things but is beaten by specialized bikes; Sports are faster, Duel Sports better off road. Nothing beats the seating and speed in a single package though.

Yeah I just want a multipurpose motorcycle. The KLR is exactly that except it can't wheelie unless you flog the shit out of it on an almost empty tank and it gets outaccelerated by fat ass trucks and v6 family sedans. It humilates itself by vibrating like crazy and making a lot of noise as said family sedan quietly and steadily pulls past it.

Other than that its perfect and does everything I want a motorcycle to do. If they stuck a smooth V twin in a KLR I'd be set.

Looking at DLs since while european shit like the Husky 650 performs well they are expensive and/or unreliable.

Put burner fuel oil (It's like green and light) in my bike and primed it a bunch of times after getting a new gas tank paint job (all other plastics too) because I picked up a gas tank that was full and unlabeled (assumed it was gas)

2000 cbr 929rr. How fucked am I? I cycled through it with premium and let it burn out and it idled really rough and smoked for a while. I let it run and it seemed to clear up a bit but now there seems to be weirdness when I rev it. The idle is adjusted to spec at 1200rpm.

Basically when I rev it now skips around and doesn't like being held around 2500rpm. Haven't ridden her yet think it'll clear up?

The best way to do that is drop a couple handfuls of really fine sand (REALLY fine like flour, I guess you can try using actual flour too; not too grainy cause you don't want to fuck up the tank or the lines) in the tank, then run it for a couple minutes at max revs to cycle that shit through the system. The flour or sand will basically bind all the old fuel and be transported out the exhaust and leave the system squeaky clean. Then just top it up with premium and you're good to go.

the GS is pretty hearty for starting, put on the choke, push the button and it should start right up. when the engine starts to rev high step the choke back until it's idling by itself.

I have to admit, I just had someone else rebuild the carbs, I don't have the space or tools to do it myself. You shouldn't have to worry unless there is something obviously wrong with the way the bike is running. Just try to make sure the seller starts it from cold.

Looks good and if jetting is stock (typical EPA-induced cold natured starts) you can drill the low speed jets one numbered drill size above the SHANK size (not the fluted end of the bit) which fits in the jet.
