No DiRT isn't shit, it's just hard to get used to. Rally's physics rival Project CARS in terms of frustration. It's borderline impossible to play on a gamepad so it's LITERALLY impossible to play on a keyboard. It's no sim, but it requires a lot of care. Assetto is pure sim (fite me pcars fanboys), but it's still not compatible with kb+m. Stick to arcade racers for now mate, but buy Assetto now, the deal they have is one for the ages. As long as you have a gamepad you should be good.

Yes, if you hook up a dualshock like an Xbone controller it should work fine. If you're confused by the buttons then the layout is exactly the same, just different labels. For reference:

X (PS) = A
Square = X (XB)
Triangle = Y
Circle = B

I do recommend looking into an Xbone controller though as the analogue sticks are in a much more comfortable position IMO

If you want an absolutely amazing gamepad to tackle sims, get the Logitech F310. For $25, it's probably the greatest gamepad I've ever played with.

This, the default setups on pretty much every car are pants-on-head retarded and you have to change them yourself to make cars drivable.

In the case of the FD in the jap pack, you literally cannot alter alignment settings as far as the car's factory hardware allows for, which helps make things even shittier. Wouldn't surprise me if it's true of most everything else in the game as well.

AC has some RX tracks and a lot of shitbox mods, but i don't think mud is modeled terribly well. Track racing shitboxes should work flawlessly in AC though.

If your wheel is vibrating and is jittery under load then it is clipping. I recommend a anti-clipping app on AC, it automatically turns down your ffb if it happens

If you're playing AC, you can hover your mouse over the setup options and it'll tell you the effects of changing it.

Keep in mind that a few things in this aren't accurate, like the supposed increase in horsepower when you increase the rev limiter, but overall it's alright and gets the point of the changes across.
Something else to remember is that on rare occasions, some settings work the other way around depending on mods or the games used.

Honestly, the easiest way to do it is just to take a setting to one extreme, doing some laps, then taking it to the opposite extreme, and seeing what changed

He's not totally wrong. Part of it is opinion but the semi-objective way to setup your wheel would be a reasonable amount of lock for the vehicle you're driving and low-mid ffb settings. Some people go full retarded and use F1 type lock in a GT car and some go the other way with 45 degrees of steering lock and 900 degrees of wheel rotation along with upping the ffb past the point of clipping. Many sim racers are retarded and autistic in a way that makes it difficult to communicate basics like this because they read one guide or saw one video by someone they look up to and then spout it as fact.

there are hardly any penalties for mistakes other than losing time

stages are short and homogeneous within each country, which resembles arcade video game levels more than real life rally stages. the stage limits are also very narrow, you can't go far off the stage or your car will be automatically reset to the road. that, or you will be automatically retired if you enter a specific area - regardless of the severity of the crash

instead of a bigger and more varied driver roster, you have small rosters of similarly skilled drivers grouped into difficulty levels, where you have to win and advance from one difficulty to the next - another typical video game design principle

each championship is only within a single small car group/class, you don't get to, for example, compete in a class leaderboard as well as an overall leaderboard

I used /ovg/ on the resume because it shown that I was active in club activities and actually good at organizing shit and had some sort of initiative outside of sitting on my ass going through college. However since a certain German decided to kick me out of /ovg/ I didn't have that, and then my version destroyed by a team of Greek, French, and a Dane.
So then comes the education part, where I was studying college. I had a Canadian dude with a biff on me decide to figure out who I was, where I was and get me thrown out of college after I suffered on Academic Probation all semester long. I got that taken away from me as well.
So what lulz do you find in taking anything I had credible from me away from? Why do you insist on this being all funny when you take away everything I had and everything I had to look forward to? Nobody will touch me with a thirty foot pole anymore, since /ovg/ and 4chan ruined everything I had for the lulz.

And yet I'm the villain here, I'm the one told I'm the problem and I'm the crazy one. Not the people trying to destroy everything I have, had and more even three years later.

But my favorite racing game series is Forza, but there's no equivalent I can find on PC. What would be the closest thing? I've seen Assetto Corsa and Project Cars mentioned, but they don't have the car customization Forza does, at least from what I can find. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Port quality is decent, performance tends to be horrendous if you use 1080p and MSAA, but basically downscale from 1440p or 4k without MSAA and you'll be fine even on mid-range hardware. But it does consume a shitload of memory, both video and main so beware if you're a bit tight.

Game itself is much more casual-ish, on the driving side it feels a bit more forgiving but if you disable all assists it's fairly demanding. It practically begs you to make ridiculous tunes and go rip skids. Very open, both in the open world nature of the map and the progression. You can do any event you want on any track, which is a very good idea if you like to try out all sorts of cars without the headache of finding a balanced race. Lots of shit to do.

/ovgt3/ season 4 never broke the 30 barrier. The last race that pulled over 30 people was /ovgt3/ on GSC, in December of 2015. Actually, looking at the numbers, GSC is an even more successful game than rFactor so if you want to pull large grids, go with GSC.

MSAA is (a form of) anti-aliasing, and I suspect they only ever optimized 4xMSAA for the X1 GPU. So it's a performance hog on PC (unless they fixed it). Can be easily disabled in the game's option menu.
