I'm about to buy a wheel and pedal setup for my PC, and have taken a look through the equipment guide. It provides some useful technical information, but doesn't have any reviews.

I'm new to wheel / pedal setups, so if anyone could share their experiences with some of the wheels / etc listed there I'd appreciate it. I'm currently leaning towards the Thrustmaster TX because it's XBO support is a bonus, and it seems to otherwise cover the same ground as the others listed (pedal / steering resolution, general steering range).

I've got both my dfgt and my g27 used, both were great wheels. 50 euro dfgt sounds like reasonable price, and it's really fine wheel (with really crappy pedals, but pushing some sponge between brake pedal and base makes it bearable). As long as it's fully working - go get it.

afaik f430 is just another crappy 270 degree "entry-level wheel". DFGT has support in all of modern games, full 900 degree rotation, proper build quality and popularity, which is important when you want to find a nice ffb profile or whatever.

Hey guys, I don't think I can race ovgt3 anymore. It's not that I want to stir shit, but it just feels meh right now. We did 3 leagues on it specifically with GT3s. And one league with GT2s and another with GTEs(that got canned, but still).

Apparently people are saying we are ditching rfactor after this, and that sucks, because there are some great mods for it we've never ran because did GT cars after GT cars, after GT cars.

I just hope the grass will be greener in AC.

yes and no.. give us your budget and nationality. Say you're upgrading a g27, the pedals would come first and wheel comes last. If you can afford a full high end package it's up to you if TM or Fanatec is a better choice tbqh. The difference in the wheel is the drill/RC motor inside. fanatec will be using a brushless motor + belt system, entry level will be using a brushed motor with loud clanky gearing and less resolution.

The fanatec is just a little extra bling, it's not going to make you faster. But it looks a little better and ffb might feel a tad nicer on it.

My experience with Thrustmaster hasn't been amazing. They love to sell cheap shit for a high price. Now, it's top of the line cheap shit, so it's not going to break, but it feels cheap for what you're paying. My two recommendations are buy a Logitech G920 and get the add-on shifter, or buy a servo base and a set of higher end TM pedals and make your own wheel. If you're too poorfag to pull these off, make sure that you at least have FFB and that you get wheelstand with a racing seat so you can stay comfy. Don't buy the Ferrari licensed wheels by the way, the license shoots their price through the roof.

In terms of wheel setups, it depends on the game. Look up the recommeded rotation setting for the game in question for the best experience. Also, don't always trust compatibility lists. The G920 came out like 1-2 years ago, but it works with rFactor, which is a game from 2003. Test your wheel to see if it really is compatible. If the game allows modding, you may be able to find a mod that let's you play with your wheel. If you bought the game on Steam, you can check community guides to find fixes and setups.

Thanks for the advice, especially about checking for game compatibility in steam / other communities for a given game. Specific to the TX set I'm looking at, it comes with T3PA pedals (3 metal pedals) and a steel / leather (TM branded, not Ferrari) wheel, so I'm not as concerned about those parts. For wheel / shifter stands and seats: are they really necessary, or can I rig something up out of wood / sit on my desk chair and couch? Wheelstands aren't mandatory, but if you have space for one it's worth the investment. Most wheels come with clamps that allow you to attatch them to a desk, but doing that can be a bit uncomfortable. Wheelstands really stop everything from moving around. The clamps use the same technology as Hot Wheels track clamps and if the pedals don't have much weight to them they can slide around on a wood floor. That's why I recommend the G920. I know it's expensive as fuck but it's pedal set is metal and has rubber legs to keep it firmly in place. If you can rig something that can hold everything in place while also remaining confortable, you should be good to go, but if you ever end up with enough space to get a dedicated sim setup, don't hesitate. Not only do they keep things in place, but they put you in a much more comfortable position for driving. Hell, if you set it up right you could practically sleep in one. For now, look into buying a racing/gaming chair (assuming you don't already have one), as they're easier on your ass/back. If your sitting in an unconfortable chair with no back support, you won't last long on the track.

Quick tips on non-FFB wheels. They're not awful, but if you're into hardcore sims, FFB is mandatory. FFB not only adds to immersion, but it can save your life. If you get into a slide and need to save yourself, a non-FFB wheel won't react to countersteer and you can end up fishtailing, meaning you have to watch the car to know how much correction you need. With FFB, you can tell how much counter steer you need through feel rather sight. The other problem it that most non-FFB wheels only have 180 degrees of rotation because of the bungee cord systems the operate on. However, if you're a casual, non-FFB wheels are great entry points. Thrustmaster has a patented bungee cord system that provides some good resistance when cornering, so you don't have to worry about them feeling like a Maximum Tune 2 arcade cabinet.

I'll definitely need to look into some sort of a chair (neither the couch or wheeled office chair would be good honestly). I'm going to start with the table clamps / self rigged stand setup, and if I keep an interest sim racing then I'll end up buying some kind of a stand setup.

The wheel I mentioned has belt driven FFB, and I don't think I'd want to go any cheaper than it (I'm shooting for a middle of the road place that will work for multiple skill levels up to competition or true enthusiast levels). Plus I definitely want to be able to feel the wheels slip.

I can't wait to use this setup to be with my next computer build to be (a few months away, current PC is enough for now though).

are there any dlc i can skip without hindering my ability to join servers in AC or do i really have to buy a billion porsches just to play the game or is just the GT3 enough?

For $47.40 you can buy the game and all the DLC, or $32.41 for the DLC itself. That's quite cheap and personally that's a reasonable amount for never having to worry about not being able to join servers or waiting for someone to upload the DLC you don't have.

Will double-up the recommendation on G920/G29. Both are cross-compatible with PC, as well as the console they're designed for. I got the G29 so I can use it with my PS4 when GT Sport finally comes out.

It's aiight. Shifter could be better, after having had it for a few months and being kinda rough on it, sometimes it doesn't pop into position all good, but even if I need to replace it eventually they're only $60 so I'm not too concerned.

The force feedback is bretty gud from what I've experience, and the wheel's grip is pretty comfy. Some people recommend replacing the wheel entirely for a real steering wheel, but then you have to jump through hoops to get the face buttons working.

For added immersions, you can hook up a joystick (can be the cheapo Logitech 3D even) to use as a makeshift handbrake, or buy a simpit handbrake thing. Since the anon we're replying to in question likes to post a lot of Initial D shit, I think I'll recommend just gitting gud and not using a handbrake of any kind, I honestly haven't felt the need for one in the few months I've been playing AC and have pretty much refined my driftan technique to do without (typically utilizing lots of shift lock, hence my roughness on the shifter).

In terms of seat I use the same dxracer bullshit you'll find all the streamers using, really the main thing you want to focus on is something comfy with good back and neck support. The old leather deskchair I used to use left my neck and ass hurting after even only 2 hours playing, you're going to be moving your legs a lot and shifting around in your seat little bits, so you'll want something that cushions your butte pretty decently.
