You should probably start drinking water like water, also.
>>
>>17073053
I actually have been drinking a bit more water at work. Normally if I'm not drinking coffee, it's diet soda. Bot coffee grill is trying to play nutritionist and she been bugging me so I swap out 3 or 4 of those Diet Pepsi cans for bottles of water.

She still somehow doesn't complain much about the Newports or coffee because she drinks a ton of coffee too.

Thurs night I got about 3hrs of sleep and had an 11hr day Friday so I think I took down about 50oz of coffee by 10am.

Gundam's Skyline deal doesn't seem too bad. I think he lives close to their yard so most weeks he just drives over there Monday morning and then gets back Friday night I think. If I were to do OTR, at least something like that doesn't seem terrible.

You will still have to deal face to face with shippers, receivers, truck stop attendants, cashiers, other drivers, yard jockeys, scale house operators, local police, state troopers, dot officers, company terminal staff and management, mechanics, tire technicians, and at times the general public.

Often these exchanges will be heated and very emotional due to the stresses the industry imposes.

My cousin is a truckerfag with a small company that carries potato, wheat and watermelon all around the country, he knows I can drive fast stuff without wrecking and wants me in but I have no license yet. I've never been in the wheel of something bigger than an F-250 and really need to get accustomed. My question here, Is Eurotruck sim a good training platform? I have a g25 and all the isolation and time of the world, don't want to fuck up in the license courses or throw any of his KW's into a ditch.

>>17075710
It's better than nothing for sure. I would have liked to familiarize myself with a big rig a little bit before training. That much less to have to think about when your training.
>>
>>17075710
You should worry about getting your regular licence first tbqh
>>
>>17075710
At best, playing either Euro Truck or American Truck Sim will give you an idea of driving with a large trailer attached to you. I know in Euro Truck you can disable the option to skip parking the trailer, and you can also choose 'skilled parking always' which gives you harder spots to put the trailer in, which may help you understand the basics of backing the trailer a bit better.

If they USA had more nuclear power. Then we could be producing DiMethylEither with the waste heat. Which we can straight up use as a diesel fuel replacement, or convert into actual diesel.

removing the price of oil from the price of fuel for trucking and other diesel burners. Which would stabilize prices of all consumer goods.
>>
>>17075847
Why? Driving in general is easy as fuck. Driving a truck isn't a whole lot harder. A sim isn't going to prepare you for that 90 degree into the last spot in the rain at a tiny pilot at 0300 with your Qualcomm shouting at you that you have 0 hours of drive time remaining but it can't hurt.
>>
>>17076183
>with your Qualcomm shouting at you that you have 0 hours of drive time remaining
That reminds me, I've gotten into a habit of going offduty before I park a lot. Say there's the exit with a stop sign at the bottom and the truck stop is down the block, when I stop at the sign, I'll switch over and then drive to the truck stop and park, since you can drive about a mile and a half before it automatically switches you over. It only saves a couple minutes a day, but sometimes it might take you ten minutes to get into the parking lot, find a spot, and get parked. Anyways, is that something I could get in trouble for? I know "technically" I guess it should count as driving, but is a DOT going to actually look and say "why is there 0.7 miles difference between when you went off duty here and on duty PTI the next day?" and if someone did happen to look, is it actually bad?

It has for me. Used to cheat the system by just changing status at a light to off duty so I could keep driving.

Now when you're in a status change, you have 4 minutes to change the status from driving to off duty. Wait a minute till it hits 5, then you can change back to driving without it effecting your HOS. Keep doing this and you'll be good.

But if you drive less than 5mph for over a mile, it'll change you to on duty status and fuck up your HOS.

Now, illegally apparently, I just use off duty driving to make my deliveries before my 10 hour reset.

What's the point of a seal if they give me the seal to put on the trailer? I closed my doors but forgot to seal it, and by the time I got back to the cab, I didn't feel like climbing out and walking all the way back to the end of the trailer again, so I just left and put the seal on when I got to the receiver, completely invalidating the entire point of the seal.

Wow. Now I'm convinced. Considering both truck types I compare have V8 but one makes ~1800Nm and the other makes 3500Nm.

Everyone knows EU trucks are the strongest most efficient trucks on the planet.

I bet you can't post a picture of your truck, though. Since you don't have one, or know anything about them. What about the difference in price, or maintenance costs, reliability, efficiency, ride quality, any other aspect of driving is completely beyond you. You only know about horsepower. And our GVW limits are set by the government to help protect the roads, it has nothing to do with the truck manufacturers. They build weaker engines that are capable of performing their duties more efficiently and for longer. Are your tires even capable of handling that weight at 80mph on a 140° road for 8hrs straight? Do you even know what a tire rating is?

okay guys. new driver here. I have an offer from a large company for a regional flatbed route, where they'll fly me out and train me and then I have to ride with a trainer for 4-8 weeks but after that they claim I'll be home at least 1-2 days a week and get 2500-2700 miles a week on sliding pay scale with a minimum of 45 cpm. they have a sign-on bonus and reimburse for CDL training.

I just got another offer from a local crane company hauling flatbed for them, older pre-emission trucks with 18 speeds vs. newer automatics with emissions for the regional company. but they only offered me 19/hr, but health care is completely paid by the company as well as matching 2% of my gross into a 401k. it's a small deal, more like a family run operation but it's not just a driving job. I can also help with setting up rigging and shit for their huge cranes. they said I can pretty much count on 60+ hour weeks during the summer with time and a half after 40 hours and double pay on sundays.

I have been wanting something in between sitting on my ass all day and doing lots of manual labor with little driving. it seems like I've got two extremes here. which would you choose? why?
>>
>>17089675
anything that has "sliding scale" in the description should be avoided on principle.
>>
>>17089717
kinda what I figured. but they did say I'm guaranteed 45 cpm, never less, even deadhead. I just think they might be fudging the miles for the regional runs. I've read lots of driver reviews and the lack of miles is brought up much more often than anyone thinking they're not being compensated fairly.
>>
>>17089675
I would go with the crane outfit, personally.

The older 18 speed trucks will be more fun to drive with no def/dpf headaches, hourly wages with overtime, paid medical and that 401k deal seem like a no brainer, and smaller companies are usually a lot nicer to work for since they are more relaxed and tighter knit.

And who knows, maybe if you prove yourself, eventually they could let you work towards getting a crane operator apprenticeship.

Both loading and pumping at the same time actually. We're continuously loading water from the tank, heating it by running it through the burner, then pumping it back into the tank, which slowly heats the reservoir. We heated them from around 5°C to 40°C.

The box has a couple of digital gauges, a bunch switches for air actuated valves, and a bunch of different controls for the burner, pumps, hydraulics and pto.

No they fucking aren't. Your trucks are lighter, and you have way lower traffic and population density than even a small, poor european country. You don't have 40ton trucks run near-constantly along your major routes and some relatively minor ones. The only issue is that you never bother to maintain them beyond maybe tossing some extra tarmac into a pothole without bothering to empty of level it first.
'Preventative maintenance' is a dirty word in america.

You don't know that, though. All you know is that you saw on Google where European counties have a higher legal weight per axle but that doesn't mean every truck is hauling that much. It could be that European trucks on average haul less than American ones, I don't have those sorts of numbers in front of me and neither do you. Just because the legal limit is higher doesn't mean the trucks carry that much regularly, or maybe even ever

Why would you load a truck below capacity? That's inefficient.
Eurotrucks have a higher weight limit, period. Not just per axle. Also, the trucks are lighter, so the loads are heavier to boot.
Also, lower weight per axle in law = weak-ass cheap shit roads.

>Why would you load a truck below capacity? That's inefficient.
Because regardless of your weight limit, you have a length limit, and you can only fit so much stuff into a trailer. You'd have to be hauling something really dense to hit your weight limit.
>Eurotrucks have a higher weight limit, period. Not just per axle.
No one ever said they didn't.
>so the loads are heavier to boot.
You don't know that, and you can't prove it either.
>>Yes we do.
>No, you don't. 44 TONNES.
We do, though. You said 40ton trucks, a fully loaded American truck weighs 40tons, and I happen to know for a fact that a good amount of those trucks are actually hitting their weight limit. For example, I've never seen a produce or meat trailer loaded under 40k lbs.
>You're just reeeee-ing right now, but please, keep posting more shit I can debunk.
You haven't debunked a single thing. You can't, because you don't have any experience, facts, or stats to support your theory. Literally all you know about trucking is what you read on Wikipedia about European truck engines and weight restrictions.

Yeah I'm with you, the e46 has some derp it just can't get rid of. The e36 dem straight lines and is from the era before computers started driving the car for you. Unfortunately, the US model missing 100hp and is just a little too small for my fat trucker body to be completely comfortable in.

Well, yeah but they start at $40k and just skyrocket from there. Regular e30s occupy that annoying space where people are asking too much for the cars that need work and ridiculous amounts for cars they have modified. I spent months looking for a decent unfucked with 318is with a LSD and never came close to finding one. You can get a great e36 m3 or a okayish e46 m3 for the price of most e30s, so I ended up with a real nice e36.
