Cleaning chain and took off front cover for the first time for lols and find a bunch of grease...why? I want to clean this up with some kerosene but is this grease supposed to be here? I think it's flung of old lube maybe? Looks weird though
>>
>>17068243
Its normal

Its the one spot I dont worry about keeping clean on my bike
>>
> repost for advice

Cleaned my carbs after getting random flat spots and sometimes unstable idle.

Didn't manage to take the carbs apart, so I just sprayed carb cleaner into the throats of each. Took a loooot of cranking to get up, but now it sounds a fuckton more aggressive and idles stably, but im worried it's sounding that way because I haven't tightened something (even though I made triple sure to leave everything as I found it) or I've lost a cylinder or fucked a spark plug when cranking or something.

Should I be worried about the "improved" sound, even if the idle issue seems solved and it seems to rev cleanly now?

Definitely normal, its just where the lube tends to end up as the chain spins and flings it off. Some lubes are better than others for flinging, but then they tend to be stickier and pick up more dirt, so the compromise is up to you

Oh also the indicator problem is most likely the switch. I cleaned it a while ago but I didn't have copper paste so just sprayed WD-40 on and prayed it would be good enough. It's annoying to get to though; to open up the switch housing I have to remove the choke cable, which means I need to remove the tank as well.

Also, do not get kero anywhere near your chain, dumbass.
Any solvent will remain buried in the links and continue to decompose whatever actual lubricant you use on the chain, accelerating wear.
Unfortunately motorcycle drive chains are dirty, gotta learn to deal with it.
You clean your chain correctly by brushing/wiping off excess debris, and adding more lube.

And I'm telling you that's wrong, dingus.
You're getting your advice from the 70's.
A modern O-ring chain already has its links lubed, what you spray on it serves to grease the contact faces between the sprockets and the chain.
Using any thin penetrant at all can contaminate the o-ring seals and lubrication, and it's not coming out once it's in there.
Pic related, read the very first paragraph.

how to get goy'd 101
>>
>>17068540
all cleaners are solvents which are inherently bad for things like rubber seals, albeit, simple green is much less volatile than something like kerosene.

just wipe your chain clean and re-lube it. applying clean grease and rubbing it in is already a cleaning process, not to mention, your chain is flinging actual shit off itself constantly.

tri flow sells spray silicon lube and degreaser if you are really concerned about cleaning. they're both kind of wet and might help to wipe a chain clean

It's really not worth the time or cost of the supplies to do chain "maintenance." In modern sealed chains, the difference in wear is marginal. I'd rather have my chain last only 75% as long as yours than to spend 15 minutes and $5 in chemicals after every ride.

You're missing the point. It's about not wanting things to get past the O-rings and wash out the sealed bearings contained within. The O-rings will keep the original lube in and debris out, because debris is big, and the sealed lube is thick. Spraying a PENETRATING LUBRICANT like fucking Water Dispersant-40 on it is a bad idea. You think the people who make the damned chains don't know how to maintain them but your fucking hick uncle does? The main point the make is just wipe the abrasive dirt and shit off and spray more chain lube on it. End of story.
>>17068551

ok fine, it doesnt hurt the rubber rings, but when he takes the o-ring off in the vid, you see a white residue left behind. thats the grease which a solvent will thin out and eventually remove.

if youre cleaning with a liquid solvent, put a liquid lube back into the chain, then grease over it at the end.

Yes, they are arguably better than the WR though maybe less reliable and more expensive to repair. Though if they're that common by you that probably isn't a problem. Also get a 500, 500>450.

Having owned one, they are fantastic when riding them. The power is great. The wide ratio six speed is amazing for dual purpose use. The power delivery is godly.
However I would never again choose a race-bred 450 (japanese or austrian) as a primarily road use bike. They're just too high strung and short lived.

Also it's an absolute pain in the ass to adjust the exhaust valves on the RFS models (2001-2007) because of where they are. Their position makes it incredibly awkward to even get a feeler gauge under the rocker arm.

Bought it with unknown hours and miles. It broke a compression ring 1100 miles later. Had the head reconditioned while I was at it since the valves had worn down and receded into the head. Guess doing the top end on a racing dirt bike after 12 years isn't too bad. Just have ~$1k set aside in your budget to replace a bunch of parts if you buy something that old.
I'm sure it went a long time but they will never be comparable in terms of longevity to a real dual sport like a DR-Z400 or any of the 650s.

For maintenance alone, they're pretty fucky. I hate the screw style valve adjusters on the my model. They require oil changes pretty often. They use 2 oil filters instead of 1, and they're a pain in the ass to get to. Also pretty much all of the exterior bearings needed replaced at the time I bought the bike.

Racing dirt bikes are really race oriented. More so than supersports. They sacrifice a lot of reliability and service life to make a bunch of power and be really light. Not what I would consider a good road bike.

Since you just said "supermoto use" I assume you're going to be using it mainly on the street, right? Is this your first or only bike?

I bought my 08 450 exc-r new, it went for 300 hours/15,000km before needing a full engine rebuild which didnt really need to be done, it was only the piston rings that were fucked and the sleeve needed to be replated at that time everything else was fine, since being rebuilt though it has shared oil between the gearbox and engine so i gave up on getting it going after splitting the cases 4 times trying to fix it.

And i wouldnt expect one to go any further than 300 hours even as a sumo, the piston sleever is going to lose its plating by then no matter what.

Do those have an iron sleeve in the cylinder or are you talking about the hardened nikasil plating on an all aluminum cylinder?

And I could have got away with just a piston and rings too, but I went ahead and had cylinder and head work done while I had it apart.

Also I've read a lot about the 08s having oil mixing problems. Thought KTM did a recall to have them all repaired?

For the majority of us it has nothing to do with being superior. Our countries should belong to us and us only. Whites are on track to become a minority by 2050 in America. We are being replaced by foreigners in our own homelands. Just compare London, Paris etc today to 50 years ago. What do you think our countries will look like in a hundred years? All we want is the preservation of our people and a safe place for our children and their descendants.

I don't think any race is superior to all others. I think white people (native Europeans) have a right to exist just as much as all other races do. I disagree with the constant attack on white people and their lands, the constant propaganda demonizing white people etc. I would also disagree with the same or similar situations for other races, for example I disagree with what the Chinese have been doing to the Tibetan people. All people should be able to live peacefully in their own lands and continue their own cultures, languages, traditions and so on.

But other than the grom I agree, although their dirt bike line up is bretty fun. CRF110F is a godly mini bike

While I don't disagree their racebikes have been somewhat lackluster recently their mini bikes are better than pretty much any other brand recently desu
The CRF110F is better than the TT-R110 in nearly every way
Their enduro bikes aren't bad either. The CRF450RX rips and handles like a dream, and subjectively the CRF450X is better than the WR450F

Aussies also get the yz250/450fx, is basically the yz but with enduro gear box and suspension.
also bikes like the rmx250/450z, crf250/450x and all of the euro bikes like beta, ktm husky etc can all be road registered down under.

Dude I still have my XR100R, it's a 98 model. Still runs like a dream too last time I checked. I've cleaned the carburetor twice since I got it new, no valve adjustments, cleaned the air filter once, and no new top end, I ran that bike into the ground and it still runs surprisingly well, I'm honestly shocked at how bulletproof the 100cc engine was. It had the same figures as the other companies' 125cc 4 smokers too. Sadly they had to replace the crf100f with the crf125f and that thing's actually slower than the 100

He said he would bring the bike by my place one day so I could look at it. He never called me after that to say when he would. I gave him a call back a few days later. Answering machine. About a week later. Answering machine. Two weeks later. Answering machine. A month or two later. Answering machine. I think he probably died.

Anyone 3x3 mod their drz? Thinking about doing it but dont really see the point of it.
>>
>>17070925
do it with a better pipe on it and a jet kit and youll pick up throttle response and overall power
>>
>>17070925
isnt the 3x3 literally just uncorking and rejetting? that should be done to basically any bike you buy. there's loads of bikes with untapped potential
see: honda crf230f. that thing makes like 17 hp stock, when you uncork it (removing a snorkel on the airbox and removing a baffle in the exhaust) and then rejet it makes like 25 horsepower

>>17070935
Currently using a stock (I think) exhaust and an aftermarket muffler from a gsxr. Seems easy enough so I might just do it.

They are dangerous, but the majority of fatalities involve no helmets, alcohol, and excessive speed.

Resolve those 3 things and you greatly increase your chance of survival and not having an accident.

At the end of the day, the most you can do is ride smart and wear your gear. People die doing mundane tasks every day, I've always thought the risk is worth it.

It's dangerous, but there are plenty of other dangerous hobbies (horse riding, skiing, scuba diving etc.) that people don't go apeshit about if you consider doing them.

Quote:
A UK hospital found "that a motorcyclist would expect to have a serious accident once in every 7,500 hours they spent on a bike.
For horse riders they found there would be a serious accident once in every 350 hours. '

Basically this is all wrong

>sportbike problems for learners
Small steering lock makes low speed turns more technical than they have to be, so you will drop it and might not even pass a skills test while some 14 year old girl on a dirtbike makes you look stupid
Plastics are expensive to fix/replace and aren't always optional components you can rip off for aesthetics. Mine actually hold the tank on.
More cylinders more problems. Have fun with maintenance. It either costs more or takes longer.
Tires and chains are guaranteed to cost more and you will wear them out faster
You'll get even more shit for mild squidding from normies while your fellow riders give you shit for not riding like a madman ("nice inch wide strips. get a scooter.")
Luggage options will probably be limited to a poorly secured bungee net, a tank bag, and a rack system you can't afford, while some fag on a UJM has a $29 metal grate bolted on that acts as a very good universal luggage system. If you can get such a thing premade or custom made for cheap, lucky you. Otherwise enjoy your bungee net and tank bag.
