How easy is it to fix and replace a clutch lever? Any brands to avoid? The lever is loose both horizontally and vertically.
>>

really easy, it's just one bolt and a little wire you slide into it. Takes about 2 minutes, just relube the bolt when you put the new one in.

Yeah my motorcycle is also my main mode of transportation, but I live in the pacific northwest so it rains here all the damn time. Putting on my waterproof pants over my boots and regular pants just to ride to class or whatever is a real pain in the ass.

Most of that is because my waterproof pants have these shitty lower cinch zippers on the outside ankles, and the fabric ALWAYS gets stuck in the zippers. You end up wrestling with the damn zippers for ten damn minutes trying to get your fucking pants on.

guys my 701 needs mirrors. the stock ones are useless at 60mph. its like a disco trying to look at headlights in those mirrors.

I don't want small and discreet mirrors, I like large and functional ones, kinda like the stock ones except something that wont vibrate out of function.

any suggestions?

DR-Z mirrors are pretty sturdy but they're kind of narrow so you get a lot of your shoulders in the view.

On a large single I think the vibrations are going to make pretty much any mirror shake so bad you can't see shit. Turn your head.

You're retarded if you think engine displacement is all that constitutes the size of a bike. Weight matters tremendously in the handling of motorcycles especially at low speeds.

Weight has more to do with how beginner friendly a bike is than power. Bigger bikes are harder to balance at low speeds and usually have longer wheelbases that necessitate more lean angle for a given turning radius. If anything, a bigger, less torquey, smoother engine than some shitty twin/single is a huge help for low speed shit because you don't absolutely have to slip the clutch to ride steadily at that speed.

Euros just flip out of power because their regulations are of the "protect the chilluns from big scary numbers" kind rather than the "lrn 2 ride scrub git gud" kind.

Wanna bet he did some dumb shit you couldn't quite see on the camera?

It doesn't take much for a rider to slam his bike straight into the ground. It takes a lot from the ground, usually a thick layer of mud, wet grass, or enough loose gravel to qualify as a gravel trap.

True. We've got national forests, coastal roads, high desert, the Columbia Gorge, urban, small towns, and lots of farmland with straight roads and 90 degree corners. Good shit.

Unfortunately it seems to rain here more often than not (at least in the fertile valley between the coast and desert) so riding requires layers of gear if you want to stay dry. I still do it though. Often days I'm the only rider I see on my highway commute.

In a few months I'll be living in southern California for work, so I'll enjoy the more steady sunshine and optimal riding weather. Oh and lane splitting. I can't wait.

>>
>>17056682
He braked a bit too hard, locked up his rear wheel, and immediately let off which caused the bike to lurch him forward into the cliff side. What he should have done was get upright, stay on the brake and wait until he was either slowed down to a safe speed or stopped. It's a harder thing to remember, but a lot of good motorcycle riding is practice and training.

This is a serious question, How good would a victory octane go as a starter bike? I know it's a 1200 and those are viewed as too large for a starter, but since victory is dead, the local store is selling 2017s brand new, combined with my military discount, for 7500. Would i be making a bad decision if i were to pick one up? Addtionally, i'm also kind of a manlet at 5'5", would I be too small for this bike or is it going to be fine for me? Sorry for the wall of text, i'm new to this thing and I fell in love with the octane at first sight.
>>
>>17056724
The low end power and gnarly engine braking would kill you.
>>
>>17056543
300s have wheelbases between a supersport and a superbike. Smaller standards will be a bit shorter but anything designed to be stable over ~100kph is going to be at least that long.

>If anything, a bigger, less torquey, smoother engine than some shitty twin/single is a huge help for low speed shit because you don't absolutely have to slip the clutch to ride steadily at that speed.
Honda's 300 single will ride itself in first gear at 4mph forever (or at least until the stock exhaust melts). That's mostly about gearing and engine tuning.
>>
Fuck this msf ecourse thing.
It's like I paid for death by powerpoint.

>>
>>17056717
That pothole would probably bend a wheel, blow a tire, or damage the suspension in a car. My sister spun out and ended up with the ass of her shitty wagon in a ditch after hitting a pothole at speed.

Only a retard wouldn't slow the fuck down use the big empty lane to the left of them to go around it in anything short of a heavy ass pickup with a functional lift
>>
>>17056728
Oh right the old 250cc 2 stroke and 4 cylinder and 400cc 4 cylinder supersports were shorter but those were designed for carving mountain hairpins and not much else.

Speed and Strength is the "store brand" of Tucker Rocky distributing. So far, they've had to recall their SS500DVD, SS400, SS300 helmets, and the SS200 helmet twice for failing to meet DOT standards, so I don't feel to confident about their chinese-helmet-buying skilz

This was back in October, I already have my endorsement. I'm an IT guy as well, I even offered to run to my place of work and get him the cables he needed (he forgot the video cable as well to the projector).

Team Oregon is well... at least their bikes looked clean, though this one lady in class crashed 4 or 5 times over the 2 days we were on the field training. She ended up breaking off one of the mirrors and she got to keep it as a souvenir, however I think she failed the test and that was the last I cared.

The little Suzuki I rode had a very loose throttle and I was having issues myself with keeping a steady speed. I reported the issue, one of the instructors said he'd add it to the list of other things. *shrugs* Again, south coast oregon guy here, all our field work was done in the rain v.v

Thing is if he was in like an mx5 he would probably be dead.

major accidents on bikes are less deadly than in cars, the real killer are moderate and mid range accidents
>>
>>17058305
No sudden stops kill people on bikes, he did not stop suddenly.
he is still lucky as fuck that he didnt land awkwardly and die straight up though.

guys I overtook like 3 people whilst doing 160, should I be worried about the cops? I was having a shit day and just opened the throttle.

nigga i do that shit on one wheel all the time, you're fine.

you don't live somewhere where you can get ticketed without proof it was actually you driving, do you?
>>
>>17055835
It's supposed to be loose vertically, like you're supposed to be able to jiggle it up and down quite a bit. This is to make it impossible to get stuck/wedged when pulling it in or letting it out. Go to any dealership and look at brand new bikes. They all have clutch levers that can be moved up and down.

Sounds familiar. I took the Team Oregon course in Albany at LBCC and I had a little Suzuki shitbike that had obviously been dropped a couple times on the right side. The throttle was, as you described, super loose and it made it hard to maintain fluid throttle control.

mfw the instructor kept telling me to "go easy" with the throttle and smoothly roll on and roll off throttle. The fucking throttle was jerky as fuck, it wasn't my fault. Shitbikes. Never again.

Might pull the trigger on this nig mobile this weekend if it's still at the dealer. 24k miles, 2011 for only 6,500$. Pretty damn low and a 12 month warranty.

I'm upgrading from a CBR500R. Call me an idiot. I've just heard from so many people the throttle isn't nearly as twitchy as 600/1000 super sports and twitchy throttles are a turn off for me.

Gonna be sad not being able to flick it around like my current bike though, shit is so heavy.
>>
>>17058657

I'm 130 lbs myself and my bike is about 400 lbs. Maybe she was just a shit rider, but every time we came to a stop it was a struggle to bear the force of this woman + the stop... almost fell to the side a few times.

Now that I think about it, it was probably just her. I had some gutter slut who had been on cycles before and it felt like no one was with me. Prolly weighed 120~
