Is the Cam Chain Tensioner on the Honda CB600 F Hornet the same through 1998-2006 or did it change in 2004?

Thinking about ordering a manual tensioner, but can't figure out if I can get one that they sell for 2004-2006 models for cheaper than one they sell for 1998-2006 models. Also, most look the same as for CBR's but with different prices. It seems like a straight forward deal, but I just wanna be sure.

Thanks.

Not saying it's a poorfag thing, but if you're under a certain age in most countries, the insurance will rape you in conjunction with the fact that income is usually lower for younger people. Owning a bike and a car is a serious financial decision for most people under 24 simply because the cards are stacked against you - for me it was either selling my car and buying a liter, or buying a 600 and keeping my car. Winter is long and painful here.

riddle me this fuckers

You are riding in very cold weather. The road around you looks wet, and you can't hear any noise from the road. What should you do?

A. Keep revving the engine so you can hear it.
B. There is no problem; continue riding as usual.
C. Change into a lower gear.
D. Slow down and ride in a high gear.

and explain your reasoning

Found this and figured it might be a fun thing to have and mess around with this summer. Thought it was a good deal at first but began kind of thinking this might be overpriced quite a bit, even given it's condition and mileage. I would think an old as hell, yet in great condition, bike like this would be around $1500, but this guy says he's taking no offers. What do you guys think? Too much?

I'm guessing it means your tires aren't making much noise against the pavement, which could mean ice/greasy (or else you'd hear the "roughness").

So probably slow down and ride in a higher gear. But that's a poorly worded question.. Part of a practice exam or what?

>If riding behind a street car, when and how is it safe to pass?
>A: Never safe to pass.
>B: Pass on right when streetcar is stopped and it is safe to do so
>C: Pass only at areas designated with green markings
>D: pass at any time it is safe to do so.

>never seen a street car in my life
>wasn't in any study material
>pic very related

I had 3 street car questions on my exam. 3. I got a simple question wrong (didn't read it quite right) and of course those 3, had to retake my written test.

It always depends on location. In my area, that wouldn't be that bad of a price because dual sports aren't as common and there really isn't anything else to choose from.
If you go and inspect the bike, you could try to see if he'll budge on the price a little if you've got cash. Still, a couple hundred bucks difference compared to what the bike sells for in other areas isn't THAT big of a deal. Old bikes don't get any easier to find, especially in good condition w/ low miles.

Right now I own an 89 FZR600R and I like it, but its old, parts are hard to get so I want retire it as my daily and properly restore it.

I'm short as fuck (5'4") but I'm comfortable with anything lower than a stock DRZ400S.

I'd like a solid commuter bike but I can't pick out what I want. The Honda 500s are cheao but bland, the BMW G650s are fairly hard to find, the F800 and F700 are also hard to find around me and when they are pricey. Brake fluid gets hot and wants to expand.

If you boil the fluid on track it flows out of the reservoir, the warmer catches it so it doesn't go every where.

On the older style (that look like a metal box), if you cook your brakefluid it can keep the brakes lightly (or strongly depending on the temps) applied.

get a tall seat also. and consider a taller and forward offset triple clamps specifically for people over 6 foot.

bikes are designed for manlets, you're at a big disadvantage for control and fatigue by being 6'2.

I'm almost 6'4" and have taller seat, lower pegs, taller bars + triple clamps and a raised subframe.
i suffered for years trying to race on bikes too small for me.

if you're riding on the street, it doesn't really matter.
but, makes a huge difference off road.

I dont know how experienced you are on a bike but if you find yourself getting fatigued early and trouble controlling the bike it's 100% your ergonomics due to height.
>>
>>17039751
Do it, Corbin's Guzzi seats are top fucking tier.
>>
>>17039752
That's the main reason I bought it. On the street and even on the track it's reasonably comfortable. but the second I take it off road and try to stand up I am uncomfortable as shit. Have to lean way forward to stand up and can't maintain that position for any length of time.

Hoping with these bars I can stand mostly upright and have some control offroad. If not I bought have to buy some bar risers.

The KX high bend is the tallest common bar bend, people complain about them being swept back too much but we will see.

Maybe I'll just buy a quad handle bar or one of those touring bike setups if this doesn't work out.

Daily reminder that if you own a sports bike and don't have frame sliders you are literally retarded and gambling with the life of your bike. At the very minimum you're looking at over $300 for a new stock fairing whereas you could have spent under $200 for the frame sliders. You will drop your bike and when it happen you can either pick it back up scratch free for less, or spend more money and be down from riding while you get everything repaired. If you don't already have them pony up and order them TODAY before it's too late. I'm speaking from experience here, order them and save yourself the heartache down the line. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

>>
>>17039926
I was told that sliders are great for low to mid speed drops on asphalt and will protect your fairings, but in a high speed wreck all the energy of the wreck is focused on the mounting spot on the frame and can cause irreparable damage. Also if you drop your shit in the dirt off the side of the road it'll dig into the ground and cause your bike to go ass over tea kettle and fuck errythang up.

Is there any truth to this or am I getting memed on? Perhaps the benefits outweigh the risks?
>>
>>17039935
I think it depends on the crash, I lowsided on track at around 90 km/hr and they were perfect, fairing never touched down once and I only had to replace rearsets, clutch lever and bar ends.

Supposedly at higher speeds that can dig in and flick the bike up and cause more damage.

Curiously enough I found some pics of old race bikes running them so who knows.

I don't think there's any kind of objective evidence out there for whether with or without is better.

On a track bike I'd run without as fairings are disposable there.

I own both a liter bike and a 600 so I can answer this question. Personally, part of the fun comes from the tactile feedback of being able to wring out a few gears, hittin redline here and there, etc....

The area I live in doesn't have enough road for a liter bike. I can wring out 1st and 2nd gear on my 600 and that is pretty fun to do. I can't do shit with the liter bike. I can get to the end of 1st gear...maybe...and I am already out of room.

The same is true on the track. In New England, the tracks simply aren't build for liter bikes. There is no laguna seca here. The tracks have a shit ton of turns, are comparatively smaller, and don't have enough straights to open up a bike. So most people prefer a 600 or a 750 for the track here

Shogun frame sliders are great because the part that gets yanked on is not actually attached to anything, it's just mounted in the middle of the metal pole. Add to that the duel mounting points make it much stronger in terms of being able to handle getting pulled/pushed on. It's the only guaranteed way to go
>>
You guys are going to think I'm a pussy but what do you all think about a Suzuki TU250X as a first bike?

I'm looking for something with a classic UJM look, pretty much only looking at street riding, and if possible I'd like something that I can mod a bit. I'm not really going to be doing highway riding and to be honest I couldn't give a shit about top speed being anything over like 70. Just want something fun to cruise around on backroads with where there's nobody else around.

They're cool little bikes, light as shit and easy to ride. But I personally wouldn't consider ever buying one unless I lived in a very congested urban area that didn't give me the chance to go over 40 or 50 mph. Get something a bit bigger so that you're not bouncing off of the redline any time you want/need to go faster than 70 mph. Even if you never use the top end power, it's nice to have that wiggle room when you're lugging your bike around at lower speeds

Also I'm drunk, let me know if my shit don't make no sense
>>
>>17040051

>>17040071
I'd actually rather eat a bullet than buy a sport bike. The styling is very much not my thing. I've looked at Dual Sports some, mostly interested in the DRZ on that side but if I'm being real with myself even with a dual sport I'd be doing like 90% street riding so I'm not sure if it's worth the tradeoff of worse feeling road driving.

>>17040072
It makes plenty of sense. I've seen a lot of people say it's more fun pushing a low power bike to the limit than riding bigger bikes and never really pushing them, but I can definitely see why you'd want more power on tap even if you don't use it much.
>>
>>17040034
All depends on your use case.

A 250 is GREAT to learn technique on and come to grips without worrying about making too much of a mess with the controls.

BUT if you are planning on doing any highway riding you'll find it will fall short of your expectations.

An older UJM of a larger displacement (350-400) would serve you better but then you'll have to learn how to care for an older bike (carbs mainly).

You might want too look into newer 500s or older dual sports, maybe up to an SV650 a lot of people start on those with no issue.
>>
>>17040099
>I'd actually rather eat a bullet than buy a sport bike.
I didn't mention a single sport bike.

>mostly interested in the DRZ on that side
DRZ400 is pretty much exactly equivalent to a WR250R/WR250X. Each have their strong points. I just mentioned 250cc bikes because that seems like it is what you were interested in.
Depends on what you want out of the bike really.

>if I'm being real with myself even with a dual sport I'd be doing like 90% street riding
Enter the supermoto versions of the bikes I mentioned. Better on the road, worse off road. Can still do both.

>I'm not sure if it's worth the tradeoff of worse feeling road driving.
Any one of those bikes will be better on the road than the TU250. Especially a WR250R/X or a DRZ400S/SM/
>>
>>17040099

Alright, so if I scrap the UJM goal, the DRZ 400SM starts looking really good. Not the biggest fan of the styling but from what I understand these bikes have a huge aftermarket. Aren't maintenance intervals on supermotos really short though?

>>17040138
Problem is finding something like that in my price range. The only way it seems to be doable is buying a late 70's Honda CB, which seems fine but my friend has one and it's had some reliability issues which I'd like to avoid if possible. The bike being dead because I fucked up wrenching on it is fine, but the bike being dead because it's old and beat up isn't really what I'm going for.

They are good bikes. You just have to deal with the carb nonsense and poor highway manners.

Not bad at all. DRZ400's have 3500 mile oil changes and 16,000 mile valve check intervals.

WR250R/WR250X's have 3000 mile oil changes and 26,000 mile valve checks.

I'm not sure what the market is like in your area, but I think you just need to be patient, keep your eyes open, and look for a good deal. I learned to ride on a 1995 Yamaha Seca II with 4000 miles on it for $1200. The only major issues it had were an oil leak (clutch cover gasket - $20 and a couple hours of my time) and a gas leak (fuel pump $35 and 20 minutes of my time). If you don't own a sport bike whats the point of riding? Eurofags on their gay ass scooters are embarrassing. Isn't the point of a bike to be faster than 90% of cars on a budget?
If you just like riding on two wheels get a bicycle. If you just like wind and noise take your muffler off and roll down the windows on your shitty beater.
Explain why it would be fun to ride anything that's not over 500cc.

>Isn't the point of a bike to be faster than 90%
I think that's what a lot of us get into motorcycling for. When you're young you want the fastest thing on two wheels to pick your pecker up. This is why so many beginners start on sport bikes or faux-sport bikes like the 250/300 Ninja's and CBR's.

But once you've been riding for a while you start to pick up on the other, arguably more appealing things about riding and you get tiresome of the annoying parts of riding a track focused sportbike.

Those more appealing things being the feeling of freedom and adventure that comes from riding. Something you experience more of when you get a more comfortable long distance bike or a dual sport you can take literally anywhere. This is why adventure bikes and adventure riding is becoming so popular. It exemplifies the notion of freedom of movement that comes with riding a motorcycle and these bikes let you do it for hours literally across countries and the world. Nevermind most of the people that buy those bikes don't actually do any significant adventure riding.

GOTTA GO FAST sportbike riding is something that appeals to the younger and less experienced. Once you've been riding you appreciate riding without needing to be the fastest thing on the road.

This doesn't mean having a sportbike as an option in the garage is bad, I keep mine ready to rock. But I ride it less and less as I have more and more fun on slower more versatile and capable bikes.

>This is why adventure bikes and adventure riding is becoming so popular.

I know this will probably sound like bait to you but I genuinely believe this and want to assure you 100% I am not baiting.

It's really popular because it's an edgewise way to be a "true biker" without having to actually be good at riding motorcycles, you just have to be able to endure boredom.

I don't mean to say people don't enjoy adventure riding or touring but that's why you have so much of it on 4chan, it's the same on /n/ actually believe it or not, a lot of people who will claim to ride a long way but not many who are actually fast or good at riding.

It's not for people who don't wanna go fast, it's for those who can't but still want to feel like they're a true rider ™ in some way.

Daily reminder that REAL MOTORCYCLING™ is exclusively low speed control.

Anyone that goes faster than 75mph on a motorcycle is not a real motorcyclist and should not own or ride a motorcycle. No one should ride any motorcycles with more than 50hp and everyone should wear a textile oversuit, knee pads, neck condom, leg condoms, elbow pads, elbow condoms, helmet and head condom, full elbow length gloves with integrated glove condom, boots, boot condoms, chest protector, chest condom, etc. or you're not a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ and in a crash your shitty leather and CE padding will explode compared to my impenetrable textile armor that I wear to political rallies and beat people up in. Anyone who drags knee or leans more than 20 degrees in a turn is just asking for death and will crash and die guaranteed. REAL MOTORCYCLING™ is all about following road rules to a T and flipping out and going into a rage at every single mistake anyone else makes on the road, just so they know how inferior they are to you. To prove you are a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ you should record these episodes on one of your 7 GoPros mounted all over your motorcycle and body and post them in over-annotated Youtube videos just so everyone can see how good you are at REAL MOTORCYCLING™. Be sure to ride around in densely populated areas with lots of traffic to ensure you are capturing the best footage of people not driving as well as you are riding your motorcycle and the inferior actions they take.

Consider yourselves educated in the proper ways of riding, I hope everyone takes this to heart. Take care and vlog safe.

Well its pretty useless because there's about 16 other things that are going to hit first before the ground comes even close to that "slider"..

If you're even in a crash where that slider makes contact with the ground it's not going to protect anything and the bike will probably be totaled by that point.

Baby dick is useless and looks silly.

>>
>>17040999
I didn't say sliders are uselsss. I said THAT slider is useless.

The bike will be sliding on the exhaust before it ever comes close to touching that slider.

If you'r ever in a crash violent enough that your exhaust gets ripped off, that little slider will not stop any meaningful amount of damage from happening and your bike will probably already be totalled.

It is completely useless.

how exactly does it protect your pipe and plastics if your pipe and plastics stick out way further than the slider does?
>>
>>17040974
I fucking hate the shit-tier riders on youtube following street laws to a T even though road laws are made for cars and you might as well be invisible on a bike. They flip their shit at the smallest mistake someone makes like "almost" merging into them and then go on to berate the driver at the next stoplight. Like I ride and drive as well and fuck if I'm gonna be vigilant for bikes 24/7 while I'm driving. You know you're taking a risk when you ride so take responsibility for your own safety and quit whining when people drive like retards as they have from the advent of the fucking wheel.
>>
>>17041008
First photo is deceiving. The pipe is not sticking out further than the slider. Angle makes it seem so
>>
>>17040931
And still, very few people ride well enough to need a sportbike for it's handling

Most buy them for looks. Just look at ptwin sport standard fags. Same performance as the regular bike, less comfort, more looking like Rossi.
>>
>>17041017
In all honesty that slider doesn't look useful for anything but removing the potential friction from the tire to slow you down in a crash. If you lay it down the side sliders will keep the plastics and engine casing protected anyway.
>>
>>17041013
They don't?
>>
>>17041017
>The pipe is not sticking out further than the slider. Angle makes it seem so
I jsut can't see how that could be true. Looks like the slider is sticking out at most, one inch further than the edge of the tire.

The exhaust has to be sticking out further than that because it is
a. the exhaust is larger in diameter than one inch
and
b. it is running next to the edge of the tire.

That slider would need to stick out another 4+ inches or so to protect that exhaust. and then it would look really ridiculous.
>>
>>17041020
Nobody gets a sport bike for handling, they get it for speed.
>>
>>17041021
Obviously if a crash hard enough and it tips past the slider the plastic above is fucked. It still gives me peace of mind though.
>>
>>17041029
>Nobody gets a sport bike for handling, they get it for speed.
Since when?

If all people wanted was speed they'd get a Hayabusa or ZX-14.

I certainly didn't get an R6 because it's fast in a straight line. I got it because its one of the best handling production bikes ever made.
>>
>>17041029
Yeah, that explains all the 600s that barely keep up with big standards in a straight line

>I swear it handles better bro, muh twisties
>I can notice the difference bro, your fz-whatever sucks

>>
>>17040888
trips of dishonorable truth.
>>
>>17041032
Those bikes are twice as expensive. Where I'm at there are no tracks, and to be honest if I could afford one atm I wouldn't have a 600 but an R1 or gxr1000
>>
>>17041039
You're not taking top speed or aerodynamics at high speed into account.
>>
>>17041047
Used Hayabusa's can be had for about the same cost as used 600's. But people dont buy them up en mass to get fast straight line bikes.

People buy middle weight and liter class sport bikes because they handle and are fast in a straight line. They are all around performance packages.

It's like saying people only buy Porsche's or GT-R's because they are fast in a straight line.

I see people squidding on Harley's are BMW tourers way more than I see people squidding on sport bikes.

9 times out of 10 people on sport bikes at least have some sort of protective jacket. At very worst they have one of those protective impact vests.

I see dudes on big sport touring bikes and Harleys riding around in t shirts every single day.
>>
>>17041067
I don't include anything under 500cc in the sport bike category. Glorified scooters with shittier riding position make me laugh. They're sold at ridiculously low prices where I'm at cause people go out and buy them because they're afraid of a bigger bike, then almost immediately get bored of them.

>>
>>17041072
I meant doing stupid shit at very high speed not necessarily no protective gear. Two lane highways are very common in texas and you can get up to over 100 pretty easily when not in peak traffic hours. It's like miles of straight track where you can go as fast as you want with a few twists and turns. Glorious.
