No, it isn't as fast as my FZR by a long shot.

1st is geared really really low which sucks at giving you a good first impression of the bike if you just want to hop on and rip, but when I was actually doing low speed tight stuff it was literally perfect.

2nd and above were all fine.

I actually thought the chassis felt really light, much easier again to do the day to day slow crawling and creeping around traffic than my FZR.

I honestly wasn't going full ham on the corners on it like I would with the FZR but I didn't scrape anything even when I did push it.

Neither the CBR500R or the CB500F that I rode had the ABS option.

I wouldn't get rid of the FZR for anything short of a Daytona or R6, but I want a good simple commuter bike for taking to work and tooling around on instead of my car.

What else falls in the same price range and fits the same use case?

I have a 2009 DL-1000. I am the third owner, I got it early 2017. I bought it from a guy who had it for a year but never rode it. I found out from the place that changed my sprocket, that it belong to the owners friend who bought it new in 2009.

Yes. It's honestly not that hard; most bikes that aren't dirt cheap have automatic oilers that just need to be topped up every so often. And adjusting it can be done by a mechanic as a service task.

over the past few days i felt as though i was losing compression.
i assumed it was worn piston rings
so today i dropped the ngine and set about taking the cylinder head and barrel off to inspect the rings.
3 of the 4 cylinder headnuts came off n problem
4th bolt jammed a little then the pin itself started to spin, thats fine i'll just pull the complte pin and nut out and deal with it on the vice.
not so fast, the pin span but wouldn't come out.
eventually managed to get it out though.

problem is the thread in the casing is now stripped to hell.
thought about hexicoiling it, but not sure if t'll hold.
also thought about getting some epoxy resin down inside and anchring the pin forever in the hole.

loss of compression is down to that faulty pin/bore.

wat do?

Yes, and utter, utter shit for a sportbike. It was a fine 1950s scrambler engine. It's a fine simple, narrow, lightweight cruiser engine.

It's a desperately underpowered turd in a sportbike. If you throw 8 or 10 grand into it you can make it more fun but it's still an underpowered fossil unless you add a turbo to a stroker engine.

Sportster based Buells are not particularly good motorcycles. Their HD heritage is only useful when parting them out to make better Sportsters.

That 16 in the circle on the top of the cylinder is probably its diameter. The original was probably somewhere from 10-12.5 (you should be able to find it on there somewhere). It will be way LESS mechanical advantage, though the lever will be hard as a rock.
