Might look a bit shit but yes, m8. Gear sticks are cheap enough and you could ride it like that now.

If you can`t get one, get a blow torch and heat it up then bend. Don`t hammer it else it will snap.

its fine, you scuffed up the plastics and bent the shifter.
order up a new shifter and make sure no leaks are forming at the case that hit the ground then just verify everything else is straight

So /db/t was wrong about the 500cc Hondas. I rode around on a friend's CBR500R and a tooled around on a CB500F.

just slap a sticker over the plastics, shave the stuff smooth again with a box razor if you want.
and if the bike rides weird when you get back on it your front tire might be cocked from the drop too.
two ways to fix it, put it on a stand and loosen everything and get it lined up or just smack it back out again

Daily reminder no one likes bikers
>>
>>17023208
No, it isn't as fast as my FZR by a long shot.

1st is geared really really low which sucks at giving you a good first impression of the bike if you just want to hop on and rip, but when I was actually doing low speed tight stuff it was literally perfect.

2nd and above were all fine.

I actually thought the chassis felt really light, much easier again to do the day to day slow crawling and creeping around traffic than my FZR.

I honestly wasn't going full ham on the corners on it like I would with the FZR but I didn't scrape anything even when I did push it.

Neither the CBR500R or the CB500F that I rode had the ABS option.

I wouldn't get rid of the FZR for anything short of a Daytona or R6, but I want a good simple commuter bike for taking to work and tooling around on instead of my car.

What else falls in the same price range and fits the same use case?

There's a good chance that shifter will straighten out fine. There's a reason they make them out of mild steel.

As for the rash, I'd leave it, but that's me. You can order the plastics from partzilla, or just sand it smooth and use 3M car wrap (or plastidip, or a WAT sticker)

I have a 2009 DL-1000. I am the third owner, I got it early 2017. I bought it from a guy who had it for a year but never rode it. I found out from the place that changed my sprocket, that it belong to the owners friend who bought it new in 2009.

He died in 2015, and the guy bought it as salvage fixed it then sold it to me.

Am I going to die lads?

DL1000 is very different from TL1000, pic related. You will most likely die eventually, but your choice of bike is unlikely to be a factor.

The TL was actually not a bad bike overall, but it had a rotary rear suspension damper that still had a few bugs in the system. Supposedly it's good practice to swap in a regular linear damper.
>>

Our license are easy when it comes to bikes. Two tier system.

>Tier One; Learners License - 50 question written test
16 Years and up. Motorcycle restricted to 125cc
Older than 18 and you can get any bike.
At no time may you carry passengers.
It should be noted that you may not ride smaller than a 150cc on a highway.

>Tier Two; Full Licence - Practical exam
You can ride any bike with passengers. You must have a learners to get a full Licence.

But I don`t obey even the most basic laws so I don`t even care.

If EBR wants to survive they need to do something besides top range superbikes. As good as Erik buell is he can't compete with the big names without bankrupting himself, they need to move into smaller less competitive markets, beginner bikes, mid range sport nakeds, sport tourers, shit like that. In the mean time keep selling the 1190 to the niche that wants it and once they've built up a customer base and a lot of capitol, give erik a blank check to make a superbike.

The whole 'Japanese Engineering' meme. Electronics that don't fuck up regularly, engines that run and take abuse, and light construction.

All the profit from basically controlling the sports bike market lets them turn the racing scene into their playground. And they've also got four huge megacorps doing it, so 'japanese bikes' covers half the field.

I'm sure that if there was a type of racing that favoured cruisers, HD would dominate.

Is there any real benefit to belt drive or shaft drive?

Should I just man up and learn how to adjust/lube the chain?
>>
>>17024626
Shaft drive has lower maintenance, more power loss and weight. Belt has less power loss, not really sure about maintenance, but I believe it's limited on how much power it can handle. Chain is kinda in the middle.
>>
>>17024626
>Should I just man up and learn how to adjust/lube the chain?
Yes. It's honestly not that hard; most bikes that aren't dirt cheap have automatic oilers that just need to be topped up every so often. And adjusting it can be done by a mechanic as a service task.
Even without an oiler, chain lube comes in a spray can.

over the past few days i felt as though i was losing compression.
i assumed it was worn piston rings
so today i dropped the ngine and set about taking the cylinder head and barrel off to inspect the rings.
3 of the 4 cylinder headnuts came off n problem
4th bolt jammed a little then the pin itself started to spin, thats fine i'll just pull the complte pin and nut out and deal with it on the vice.
not so fast, the pin span but wouldn't come out.
eventually managed to get it out though.

problem is the thread in the casing is now stripped to hell.
thought about hexicoiling it, but not sure if t'll hold.
also thought about getting some epoxy resin down inside and anchring the pin forever in the hole.

loss of compression is down to that faulty pin/bore.

wat do?

it's taken me almost a year to build this scooter the way i want it and i was hoping to get it fully legal on the road on Tuesday.
to be honest i was fishing for a quick fix that would be semi-permanent until i source a 200cc engine i can kit to 225 or 230, most 200's have been badly molested over the years so finding a good original one is bloody near impossible. unless i Italy

Spare seat with ugly but comfortable touring-style padding/upholstery. You can get a used seat for the seat pan then have your local auto upholstery shop do the work. Be specific, preferably with photos of similar seat.

For small seats, gel inserts can be purchased and you or shop can install them.

Bullshit. Shadows are just faster Rapides, but the drivetrain is docile as a Harley. Stock brakes are sucky but all bike brakes a shit in those days. I've ridden my mentors Rapide and attended a few Vincent meets. Many owners ride the shit out of theirs after hotrodding them beyond Shadow specs. Fun bunch of people, nearly all wealthy and mechanically inclined.

>It's not like it's hard or anything

It's not HDs core market and it is MUCH harder than it looks. Frequent model changes to keep up mean frequent retooling.

Sportbikes don't fit HDs business model and the sportbike market is saturated. Polaris have Indian which is low risk vs. a sportbike doomed to failure.
>>
do any of you fags conceal your peacemakers whilst riding. i've got my ccw but i know its just another thing to carry around.

Yes, and utter, utter shit for a sportbike. It was a fine 1950s scrambler engine. It's a fine simple, narrow, lightweight cruiser engine.

It's a desperately underpowered turd in a sportbike. If you throw 8 or 10 grand into it you can make it more fun but it's still an underpowered fossil unless you add a turbo to a stroker engine.

Sportster based Buells are not particularly good motorcycles. Their HD heritage is only useful when parting them out to make better Sportsters.

HD are historically terrible at anything but their core market. They should stick to what they know how to make a profit doing.

no, you're expecting not to shoot someone, but we live in reality, and sometimes bad things happen.
sometimes just brandishing a firearm is enough to save your life/property

If you can get the engine you can build a custom frame to take it or mod an existing frame.

Customs are a thing and bikes are much easier to work with than autos. Find good titled roller of suitable layout then break out the frame jig and welder.

>>

Nah, I know it'll run on it but 91 is readily available and at nearly 13:1 CR I figure the higher octane the better.
>>
>>17024906
Not over ~800 bucks since carb cleanings are horribly expensive if outsourced and most dealers won't work on them.

Then go to various Wing forums, download a factory Honda manual from where ever and do it yourself.

Perform a compression test and visual spark plug inspection or offer 500 since internal condition is unknown.
>>
>>17026132
I put 91 in my nighthawk and noticed absolutely 0 difference between it and 87, so I'm sticking with 97

whats the point of carrying a gun if it is not ready to fire?
You sure you are going to remember to chamber a round after finding it wherever you have it stored on your bike and before someone with lets say a knife starts attacking you?

Sounds like a good way to give the guy trying to stab you a bike and a gun honestly.

For an 800, it's tamer than a 600, especially 98-01s, which it probably is if it's cheap

I would use a barrel type insert rather than a coil insert to repair. There is a wide variety and some do not require a special tap to install, just the correct drill bit and a standard tap.

MSC, McMaster-Carr, Fastenal etc stock them if you have trouble finding them online and live in CONUS. Ebay is also a good source.

Compared to Harley they do! Worth noting is a key reason for HD sales is the enormous aftermarket. No other make comes remotely close.
HD implements changes slowly and does very well maintaining backwards parts compatibility.

I'd rather go to gymkhana courses on a sportbike, my sportbike. With some really fat crash bars that don't destroy the frame.

That 16 in the circle on the top of the cylinder is probably its diameter. The original was probably somewhere from 10-12.5 (you should be able to find it on there somewhere). It will be way LESS mechanical advantage, though the lever will be hard as a rock.
Upgrade your calipers along with the master, or just get a CRF450 master.

I found this helmet in a trash can in the building and grabbed it. Looks to be in good condition with no signs of being in an accident. Only thing is the visor thing was off. It seems this little side clip thing is missing? The visor wont clip on. Anyone know what this part is or where I can buy them? I need one for both sides?

I don't have a bike but this would be nice to have if I wanna go to the track or autocross, or maybe just sell it.

Thanks dbt
