oh hello

if the Lowes flatbed driver is still around, I interviewed with them today. it turns out they had goofed on their listing and actually only had a part time opening. but the manager liked me enough that he went and talked to HR after I left and had them come up with a full time position. they called me and offered me the job 20 minutes after I left. but unfortunately, the pay was nowhere near where I need to be.

Reddit is 99% shit. Somewhere between 4chan and Tumblr. Lots of reposting. Karma (up/downvote) system is flawed and lends the site to being an echo chamber for liberal cognitive dissonance. Alright lads story time. Am I gonna get shitcanned or am I in the right here?

>Shut down at midnight at terminal last night
>Next load is a relay I pick up from terminal, scheduled 6 a.m. Friday morning, 500 miles away
>Seems gud, start shift right at 10 a.m. this morning
>The guy who got the load scaled it and it came up 80 pounds overweight on the drives
>Let dispatch know I may need to get it reloaded
>He assures me the guy who scaled it had full fuel tanks and that since I'm at 5/8 I should be fine, tells me just to go
>I scale it anyway just to be sure
>I'm 160 over on my drives
>Dispatch telling me that if I drive 220 miles I'll be legal and that I can skip my fuel stop
>I tell him there's an open weigh in motion scale I'm passing 120 miles away, and there's no need to skip the fuel stop because it's close to the cons and I won't pass any more scales
>Tell him I'm going back to be reloaded, 30 miles away
>"OK but don't be late for the 600 appt."
>"Lol OK", I say
Fast forward 4-5 hours of time wasted driving backwards, taking forever to reload, and getting my weight right
>ask dispatch what time I need to be there, or is it open delivery now
>they need it at 6, you'll need to drive straight there and break at the cons
>tell him I've been to this cons and they won't let me, they don't even have the decency to allow drivers restroom access, but there is a truckstop a mile away I can get to
>he says they specifically want the product and will make an acception to let me stay

Seeing as I won't get to that area around 2300, even if the cons allows me to break there he's implying he wants me to dick around with them and unload right in the middle of my 10 when I should be sleeping and on break. I'm not asking what I should do because I already know I'm taking my break at the truckstop, getting rest and delivering it a few hours late tomorrow. Just wondering who's in the wrong here.

Go ask Qube Bulk and Aurizon what they're using for their quads.

Scania, Scania, Scania, Volvo, Volvo, Scania... etc.

Kenworths are dogshit for reliability, particularly drive train reliability, plus, they blow turbos every 250K, Water Pumps every 500K.
We had a bunch of RT sets delivered from Kenworth a couple of years back, every single PM had a major fault within the first 10,000.
We're talking Differentials, Driveshaft/Uni Joints, fucking transmissions - every single set had a major issue and Kenworth fucking fought our warranty claim every step of the way.

Kenworth is garbage, the only reason they leave the factory is because upper management/acquisitions don't seem to understand the long term cost benefits of having trucks that don't nuke themselves every three trips.
>>

With our Kenworths we've had Gearboxes fail under 800K, we have Turbos blow every 250K, Water Pumps more often than not at 500K - they're fucking nightmares.

9-5, no call is 75K.

>>
>>17019379
Multiple different drivers, good quality roads, loads were well within spec and trucks received more than adequate maintenance.

Issue was from the manufacturer, which was a comment that was mirrored by a CJD mechanic I later spoke with.

The case may be, just maybe, that American engineered trucks are a bit old world.
>>
>>17019461
>Kenworth
>engines made by Paccar, Cummins, Cat, Detroit
>transmissions made by Eaton
>driveline, axles, differentials made by Dana Spicer
>brakes made by Bendix

you do realize that most truck manufacturers source drivetrain parts from the same places, right? practically the only thing that's actually made by the truck manufacturer are the cab and the frame rails. the rest could have just as easily ended up in a Freightliner.
>>
>>17019495
Of course.

But it comes down to fitment and customisation, case in point, a recent batch of T409s was delivered with incorrect bolts holding engine fans in - more than one customer had engine fans fly off at speed.
Likewise, several were delivered with incorrect wheelnuts.

Old world quality control leads to old world trucks.

You will also note that a lot of these parts are customised by brand, to fit chassis and design specs - these customisation often aren't fully tested.
>>
>>17019534
KW are produced in Australia. Most probably got new workers from Holden.
>>
>>17019534
Source? There are no recalls for that issue at all.
>>
>>17019587
I know.

But what the fault came down to was they had a box of bolts that didn't quite fit, so rather than bringing the issue up in fitment, and getting the right bolts, they shoved them in there with a bit of loctite and fucked it off to the next guy.
The bolt had to be forcibly removed, the thread retapped and a correct bolt fitted.

>>17019605
AFAIK it was only an issue for a handful of trucks nation wide, only two of ours were at risk of being affected.
You will find for a lot of these types of issues there is never a recall notice - even with cars, if the issue is batch related rather than design related they will tend to notify the owners of the batch directly/ignore the issue completely (Nissan is pretty famous for such).

I DID hear about it actually happening, from a friend that drives for a car carrying mob.

I have made a terrible mistake.
Started on the dollar general account with Werner. They want me to be able to unload 3 stops a day. My body is so weak I might be able to do one stop every three days or so. Looks like it's back to 48 states for me.

2 metre wide casing, there's a machine that has a chain wrench on a motor that clamps onto the casing and turns it, the chain has to be redone every turn - old school.
One dude is real eager and runs around the casing, pulling it tight over the very base of poor motherfucker's arm, he doesn't hear him screaming over the sound of the motorised wrench.
Releases the clutch, casing stays in place, the dudes are twists twice and pulls off of his body like a bone out of a cooked chicken wing.

Weird, usually I'm the only guy with any oilfield related shitposting to do.

I've worked with a bunch of guys over the years that lost some digits from mishaps while throwing chain or trying to shove tubulars around, but never saw it first hand.

Worst thing I saw was an old guy on my cement crew do a superman off a tall catwalk while wrangling the slung up 10k Kelly hose off our truck up to the floor with a tag line, and just stepped out into mid air off the side of the catwalk. Landed on steel framed matting right on his chest plate. He's still fucked up from the impact four years later.

Poor old fucker was a cement sup back in the late 90s, then quit and pulled a tanker for fifteen years, and somehow thought that he would be able to get right back into it in the dead of winter in northern Canada when it's as flat out busy as it possibly could be.

>thankfully it hadn't been connected yet
>fall off onto the still spinning kelly, ruin ankle
>navy slide down the stairs and basically runfall into the big fucking sow that was being used for investigation
dude was fucking cool and extremely shitfaced when he told me this.

We drop casings as one of the first steps, we slurry what's in the casing and grade it to find the gold content.
If the gold content is high enough we start a pit or shaft depending on if the gold content is consistent or packed around a certain level.

How does time off work? Some forums and sites I've checked say before a year you'll probably get 1-2 days off every three weeks* , but it goes up slightly past a year since that's the magic number.
What do you guys even do with your money? I know you essentially have to make trucking your life when you go OTR on a single or heavier, assuming you don't have a carrier that gets you home nightly.
If you're home less than half a week a month, you probably save it. Right? What do you do with it if you have nothing to really do with so little home time?
