So I want to continue that ZX10R/S1000RR/liter peter/1299 discussion from the last thread.
I want to make it clear that the 190~ horsepower figure I am referencing is WHEEL horsepower. Both the S1000RR and 4th Gen ZX10R easily make this with nothing but a downloadable ECU flash.
These jap bikes that you say have "caught up" have absolutely not caught up. They are doing roughly 180-190 at the crank which translates to 160 at the wheel. I saw a R1M dynod last week with a ECU flash and a full exhaust and it was barely putting down 175 to the wheel. The same for the GSXR 1000 and the same for the Honda CBR1000RR. None of these bikes compare to the ZX10R or S1000RR
It's sad but that is the truth.
How do you store your balls when you ride? Heavy braking neuters me.

that's not a particularly great price for that bike. If you're buying a high strung 4-stroke that old you should have at least another $1000 in your budget to rebuild it. MX engines are likely to be near the end of their life if they have actually been ridden frequently for that time.

The CRF looks like better value than the YZ.

It's obviously in rougher shape than the others, but the KDX is known to be a much more reliable bike. Plus it leaves enough in your budget to rebuild basically everything.

>>17012676
I've heard the earlier models of the V4's had some problems when they first came out but they've mostly been ironed out. The older ones with the vtwins are known for being very reliable but they made a new engine in like 2010 and took a couple years to get it working super well.
None of these brands are going to have amazing reliability, I'd say they're all pretty similar at the end of the day. If anything is going to go wrong, it will be the electronics.

Basically the first number correlates to how well the oil runs at lower temperatures, the lower the number, the better the low temperature performance. The second number is viscosity, so 15w50 won't run as well at lower temperatures than 10w40, and will also be thicker.
15w50 will probably be designed for higher running temperatures, it'll probably still work but depending on the engine it may be slightly better or slightly worse, but it shouldn't be catastrophic.
>>17013102
fucks with the clutch and gearbox mostly.
generally motorcycle oil has less/different additives, dont just use any old shit you got from the house-hold store.
>>17013102
>>17013126
To add, if the bike normally takes 10w40, stick to 10w40, it's probably best optimised for that anyway.

My KLR650 could run on brent crude oil while my DL-1000 only uses one brand of semi-synthetic oil.
15w50 is most likely High mileage mutigrade, it is what use in the KLR 650. Where as I use 10w40 Street only in the DL-1000, it is 3 times the price.

I've got a few gremlins in it and I honestly don't know how to chase down some of them. My front fork wobbles very slightly at highway speed. My engine makes light metal ping noises while running. The idle is too high, at 2k RPM after it gets to operating temperature. When cold, it idles fine.
If I don't let it warm up for at least two minutes, it tugs and throttle refuses to roll on evenly and the engine sits at like 6k RPM for like two minutes because the bike is throwing a tantrum.
All of these are indicative of problems, but I don't know what problems.
Maybe I should buy a new bike and sort the old bike while I ride the new.
But then Ontario also makes sure no one can afford to ride more than one motorcycle.
Fuck this province.

That made me curious though.
Assuming I don't care how much money it costs to fill my tank and I only care about range, would tuning the Economy map for 91 or 87 be any different? Could I tune an Economy map for E85 and get longer range?
Can anyone tell me about the Triumph Sprint ST 955i?

do you really think an extra layer of leather is going to keep your bones from snapping?
if you tumble wrong or hit a tree you're done for
that's why racers cover themselves in nearly completely immobilizing airbagged armored suits with everything-sliders and only ride on smooth pavement surrounded by fuckhuge gravel traps, and still manage to break their collarbones
>>17013687
I thought the octane thing was only for engine compression, can you actually run 87 in an bike that takes 91 if you change the mapping?
so after spending some time on revzilla which is apparently the top go-to site
they have a top rated full closed helmet for $119 thats SNELL cert
so why do i need a 500 dollar helmet?
also how do the Mechanix gloves work for bikes?
specifically the ones with protected pading, they even have 1 with the electro static in the thumb and finger for using a phone, but they also have ones with exposed index and thumb
what would the downside to a knuckle cut glove be in a bike?
and finally how are normal Tims for riding boots?
since you can actually wear them, they're waterproof and fashionable and comfy (they're meat to be worn) rather than "racing boots/shoes" which wear out quickly and arent ment for anything but shifting

they fucking don't. do you like your fingers? how about your wrists? gloves are easy to take off when needed, so get proper racing gloves with palm sliders

Umm are you tarded baird?
e85 will get you less range per litre of fuel and it will have the added bonus of destroying your engine.
>>17013868
>why do i need a $500 helmet
You don't, you are paying for comfort/reduced wind noise and less weight with expensive helmets not extra protection.
They are all built to more than double the safety standards. (1 star rating would be just on safety standards)

but still, it has all the ratings and good ventilation according to their review video
How likely am I to die on a bike if it's a dual sport, most of the riding is done on straight roads with good visibility and I value my safety far above looking cool? I'm curious as to how dangerous bikes really are when you eliminate a ton of aggravating factors like drunkenness, riding beyond skill levels, trying to show off, not paying attention, not wearing gear etc.
I mean I am a pussy and still on the fence about riding on the street on behalf of people who care about me in the event I die or wrecking and crippling myself, but am also legit curious

That's why I specified good visibility and straight lines. Here you have trees everywhere obscuring visibility badly

You just answered your own question?
it gets 50mpg at highway speeds not constantly accelerating then slowing down only to accelerate again in 2 seconds.
>>17014101
It's called a remote brake fluid reservoir. And it's on any bike with a radial master cylinder, not just japanese bikes.
Bikes with hydraulic clutches also sometimes have them on the clutch side.

It's Ontario that gets rapped.
The other provinces have it nowhere near as bad. Ontario has only two major providers that do insurance. They sell primarily through brokers. The direct dealers are ridiculously conservative and want you to be 40 billion years old with seventy billion years driving experience, no faults, no infractions.
We also can't turn to our government who will never punish these robbers. They'll say "muh free market, no regulashuns" and they'll dance to the tune of the insurance companies. Ten years back they whined about how it was so expensive to run in Ontario. They got their way about some old regulations.
Quebec forces them to price at a certain point with a government run insurance plan. They have to compete at that level to get customers. That's a decent idea.
BC just plain has none of that shit and wrenched their arm to give people a fucking break.
Good fucking riddance.
We can't even use our motorcyclist association to wrench their arms. They're honestly afraid the insurance companies straight up will not insure our bikes for the road.
Fuck this free market idealism. It just leads to fucking robber barons. Libertarians need to get fucking shot.
