GS500 BEST BEGINNER BIKE
>>17010096
Wobbling at 80kph isn't good, sounds like it's not tight enough. Personally I'd just tighten that fucker up. Also whilst you did do them up to torque, did you use a spring washer or thread lock? Otherwise the bolt can shake loose with vibration with relative ease.
Holy shit, I finally learned how to do clutchless shifting on my GSXR today and I feel like a complete idiot for not doing this sooner. It's so much smoother.
If you guys are trying to learn how to do it, my advice is to start at low RPMs and start at 3rd gear and try to go into the 6th. People online say that you should be applying pressure on the pedal and it will just click into place when you chop the throttle but I don't like this technique. You just click it into place at the same time you chop the throttle. It was so fucking smooth I couldn't even tell that I had shifted the first few times
>>17010102
How did it take you so long? It's the easiest thing.
>>17010102
My other advice would be to not waste your time trying this on some meme bike like a Ninja 250. I tried to do clutchless shifts on my ninja 250 and it never worked. I think their transmission is just different or the throttle response of a carbureted bike doesn't give the same effect as chopping the throttle on FI.
On a side note, does anyone know how I am supposed to clutchless from first to second? Do I just kick it in extra hard?
>>17010098
why?
Looks like a unreliable old piece of shit. I suppose you get what you pay for.
>>17010102
Nope. Apply pressure and roll off the throttle. It will click up. The smooth way is to roll off just enough to click up a gear and then roll back on quick enough to not lose much downtime on hard acceleration.
>>17010110
No, it works just fine on a 250. You're just doing it wrong.
First to second is the same thing, but it will not feel the same at the foot.

I really like it but it costs way too much. The base model costs more than an S1000RR or R1 that both come with way more toys. They made the exhaust out of titanium which puts the price through the roof. Nice, but not worth the money.
>>17010406
>They made the exhaust out of titanium
Even the standard model? You'd think most people would want to replace that pigfat can anyways.
Daily reminder no one likes bikers
>>17010408
Yeah, which was a mistake. Weight wise it's a great can, but it's absolutely hideous and also adds easily a grand to the bike's price, titanium is crazy expensive. I understand using it on the SP models (they also have titanium fuel tanks which makes them even more expensive), but Honda fucked up putting it on the base model, a lightly specced Fireblade costs the same as a fully specced S1000RR Sport with all the nice bits on it.

It's not even that, a lot of companies know you're gonna swap it out anyway, which is why they often offer Akrapovic from the factory. The new cars are all horrid because of the Euro 4 regs, so they have to make them huge to meet emissions. I don't care that it's ugly though, I'm just annoyed they used needlessly expensive materials on a part that will get replaced 90% of the time.

every sport bike besides the ZX10R, S1000RR, and GSX-R 1000 is a complete meme. Allow me to explain. The 4th+ gen ZX10R and S1000RR have 30+ hp off the lot on both the R1 and GSXR 1000 so it's obvious why they are winners. But wait, why would I rank the GSXR over the R1? It's because the GSXR doesn't try to be something it isn't. The reality is that all these jap bikes have been getting scraped by the S1000RR since 2010 so there is no point in promoting this faux le racers bike that Yamaha does. The R1 is nice, but it's not as nice as the S1000, and it isn't worth the asking price. If you're going to be riding a comparatively slower bike regardless, you may as well go with the cheaper one (gsxr)

you are overthinking it. it's not entirely your fault though since this world is filled with retards and they have managed to turn a concept as simple as pushing a handlebar left or right into a convoluted mess
go ride around at slow speeds. you turn by turning the handlebars. it's simple.
you turn the exact same way at high speeds. the issue is that because of your speed and weight, the gyroscopic forces keep your handlebars and front wheel straight. but that doesn't mean the exact same input isn't going to have a similar effect. you wont physically see your front wheel turn the same way it does in a low speed environment but the same exact thing is happening.

>>17010851
It generally starts between 15mph to 20mph depending on the size of the bike, it's geometry, and the rider.
You push the direction you want to go, causing the front wheel to turn the opposite way. This causes the bike to lean to the OPPOSITE direction the wheel is pointing. You then slowly straighten the wheel as your bike goes through the curve.
So my on of my front brake rotors feels slightly warped, I can feel a tiny little 'skip' when lightly touching them. Is it worth it to try to get a new one?
Feels really minor but I don't want any tank slappers.

Honda makes the CRF230L and CF250L but they make less power and are heavier than the WRR with shittier suspension.
WR250R has a 6 speed transmission, is comfortable and capable on the highway, and is very capable offroad.
Do not confuse it with the WR250F though,. those are race bikes that do need their valves checked every 15 minutes.
The WR250R dual sport and the WR250X supermoto are the same bike and street legal with small differences like wheel/rotor size but the WRR/WRX are completely different from the WR250F offroad race bikes. Make sure you understand the differences before you buy anything.

Great idea, those tires are boss!

Are you saying my 115,00kms gearbox should be as smooth as some new 1L Sport Bike?
Do you guys like my bike?

Not with the way you shift.
got clotheslined today, some faggot spun a wire across the road, every time i ride the bike i get this weird shaking sensation and my arms feel weak, what the fuck is going on

it looks like it's in the wrong aspect ratio. so high and squashed looking with a huge fuel tank
I am considering replacing that rear grip bar with an actual luggage rack, but they are a bit ugly, and this bike looks really nice

Yeah, Yamaha calls it mass forward but that translates to "only looks good from 3/4 and rear"
rate my stoppie
>>17011358
Yes that's obviously the fault of the bike.
By that logic a DR-Z400S with dual sport tires is a faster bike than a newish FE501 with an actual supermoto setup.

lean into the corner basicly your body is moving the bike not the stearing, you can do it on a bicycle, just ride around and keep your stearing wheel straight, lean from side to side to turn and slow turns below 30km you can use stearing more efectivly, most stearing comes from the back tire than the front, then again this is from a chopper rider dont know how racers work
>>17011358
This is a very upright seating position for going fast.
>>17011287
Aprilia's 125s are also very good looking, they look so close to the bigger versions at a glance.
I think once Honda gave the CBR125 bigger tyres, that got a lot better looking too.
Living in the city fucking sucks. I gotta ride like 45 minutes just to get to roads that aren't littered with stops and traffic lights. I wanna go back to muh hometown but there's no jobs in that shithole.

I've got to agree with >>17011447, I love that bike but the front is hideous, tiny projector lights in massive 'eye' sockets. Would look better if it had another two lights to fill the gap, maybe two for dipped, two for main.
>>17011121
its not a lie. go look at the numbers. an ecu flash unlocks 190+whp on both of them
>>17011503
the 1299 is trash. people compare it to liter bikes like it's hot shit or something meanwhile it has an entire 300cc extra displacement. grats, you have to use a 1.3L engine to get 205 crank hp. not that hard to do
>>17011492
Why does gold on bikes look so nice?
>tfw have gold chain, levers, suspension, rotors, brake calipers, and handlebars on my bike
>trying not to nigger it too much with the gold
>>17011507
Goldwing dualsport.

>>17011527
Gold is only good with tricolor which is only good with Honda.

Not really. He didn't know how to turn or choose a good line. He had mile wide strips when he arrived. He had never cornered in his life. I was faster than him all day.
Also yours may be dual sport tires, but they're still leagues ahead of mine. Mine are skinny little bias ply tires made of hard rubber that can't grip for shit. If yours are like other "supermoto" dual sport tires I've seen, it is a pretty soft radial tire that just had bigger grooves cut than sport bike tires.

I'm not actually balding, just have a hairline like I'm balding (since I was 3), with lack of hair at my temples.
For some reason doing full lock turns to the left feels a lot more awkward and inconsistent than doing them to the right for me.

you should probably increase your preload and/or compression damping
Hi bikefriends
Beginner nerd here, looking to buy a cheap bike to restore. Little to no wrenching skills, but I've been reading Dan's MC course and piling through shop manuals/videos to learn the basics. I'll be done uni in a few weeks, which leaves me time and space to work on a baiku.
Looking to get an opinion on this one: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-street-cruisers-choppers/ottawa/kawasaki-kz750-rebuild-bike/1254214888?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
Guys says it needs new tires and "some of the electrical components may need to be replaced", he got stuff like a new batt and says the bike has started up on "many occasions last year"
Any idea what I'm getting myself into?
Currently riding an '86 Honda Helix around Canuckistan while I earn my big boy bike.
>>17011920
It'll be fixable but there could be problems he's not aware of that could give you a headache. What's your budget? You can find working bikes for very little.
>>17011947
I'd be hard pressed to spend over $1000, but I could probably spring $1500. Insurance for young riders here is an asspain as well, so the lower the displacement, the better. 650cc+ seems to be where insurance goes through the roof.
>>17011772
Yammie?

Can you not find a 250-500? Still plenty of fun to be had and easier to find in your budget.

>>17011025
Get a 450, so you can use it on the street. 250 is too gutless for dual sport
when is SEM333?

>>17011213
DONT MIX THEM first and foremost. Either get the same rear again or get a new set.
>>17011984
I would love something below 500, but the only cheap fixer uppers I seem to find are in the higher numbers. $400 for the KZ750 seemed reasonable to me, but my biggest gripe is the insurance I'd get fucked with after spending lots to get it running
>>17012028
Fair enough then. I guess just be thorough and make sure you're not buying a money pit.
>>17012019
I have pilot activ front and BT45 rear
its fine unless you're mixing bias and radial tyres
>>17011980
I do not trust this post.
>>17011920
Also looking at this thing.
2 stroke and less displacement than the CN250 but for some reason I want.

Took a 2005 gs500f out for a test ride yesterday, the battery was so flat that even when it was at 70km/h in 2nd gear it died after 300m. Getting a good deal on it though, $1300, I guess the dealer was embarrassed and he just wanted it gone.
