Don't preload the lever, that'll cause the transmission forks to rub on the collars and wear out. The trick is getting that sweet spot just before engine braking where there's very little load on the transmission. This shouldn't cause any damage unless you take too long to shift or you aren't in that sweet spot.

Allegedly the colour of pretty much everything besides helmet is statistically insignificant. White is the best helmet overall because most motorcycle collisions are some cunt turning in front of you in the city or whatever but dark colours are actually more visible on open highway because the backdrop becomes the sky and hi-vis yellow and orange are better in certain lighting/weather conditions. On the other hand fluorescent clothing is supposed to make a difference in low light and reflectors in the dark. (probably whenever there's headlights involved really, some places still don't have daytime running lights)

Are you seriously trying to justify giving the Daytona a handicap because Triumph was stupid enough to use the wrong engine configuration and overpriced the shit out of the bike?

GSXR750 and Daytona 657R are in the same class and the GSXR750 is a far better bike for less money. Deal with it britbong apologist.

don't try to engine brake
it's more pronounced on vtwins and in the wet you can break the tire loose kind of easily
don't try to corner as aggressively as on a sports bike if that's what you normally ride
>>
>>16917591
They are easy to ride, but a little heavy. Just cruise and chill man. I LOVE riding my cruiser. More than the sport bikes. The sport bikes can be fun, but man, just hopping on the cruiser and riding around is so much fun. It's WAY more comfortable. It's a better ride. It's just a chill way to enjoy motorcycling.

according to the 2014 WSBK championship trophy it won, according to comparisons with other superbikes where testers consistently place it near the top, according to it just being a better equipped bike in general than something like a CBR1000. It was even used as a basis for Aspar and PBR Aprilia motoGP team bikes.

On what metrics are you basing your opinion of it being outdated?

Im not asking this in some smug way or being a faggot but I am legitimately curious:
Why does anyone buy a 600cc sportbike anymore?
Modern liter bikes weigh almost exactly the same, handle almost exactly the same, and accelerate much quicker.
Granted liters are more expensive and insurance penalties are harsher, but you generally receive a better quality motorcycle with much better parts than their 600cc brethren.

I had multiple friends that went to MMI in Arizona who could spend hours telling me about the issues they saw on a daily basis with every Aprilia that came through the bay door.
One of my friends and an instructor both had two separate occasions where an assembly tech at Aprilia had left a tool in the crank case or transmission that had beaten the bike apart inside 100 miles.

Okay so here's the straight scoop on the digital speedo. It's somewhat hard to read in bright sunlight and it's placed just below my eye line so I have to tilt my head down to check the readout. To remedy the hard to read problem you just tilt your head down and to the side and look at from an angle. You get super used to doing this and don't even think about it anymore. And if you're sticking to cruisers quite a lot of them have their speedos on the tank so you'll already be used to glancing down in the future. You'll also get used to knowing generally what speed your in each gear and what not, at least higher up.

Any more Bolt questions please let me know! I never get a change to talk about it on here.

Bolt poster here.

Mods:
- Original owner put a Vance and Hines Competition Series Slip On Exhaust. What he failed to do was add a fuel pack so the thing pops like crazy on deceleration. The best I've heard the Bolt sound was a guy who had his straight-piped. Loved it. But honestly I don't care too much about how the exhaust sounds because I wear earplugs and often listen to music so other than parking lot posturing exhaust means little on the road. I do love v-twins though. If you decide to get an aftermarket exhaust buy a fuel pack and a new air filter for the best results.

- For the love of god buy Mustang (or any aftermarket) seats for you and your passenger. You won't last longer than 45 minutes before your tailbone is screaming with the stock seat.

Throttle Discipline: I came from a 650 inline four standard ('84 Nighthawk) before hopping on the Bolt so if you've ridden a bit on a real bike before you will be fine. A v-twin has a little bit more punch off the line but after that its smooth, linear sailing. I wouldn't worry about it. Just take a few miles to get used to the different engine style and increased CCs.

It's absolutely not a rocket ship either. After one year and 6k miles I'm already looking for an upgrade. The Bolt is an excellent bike if you don't need to hit the freeway though. It's just above 60mph you, as the rider, feel a little buzzy and stressed on it. The engine feels perfectly fine, but the riding experience leaves you wanting more power and protection.

Keep the questions coming!! I feel useful for once.

I just put the first tank of 91 shell in it. I want to pull the plugs, check the airbox, and if those don't work, clean the carbs. I'm not looking forward to pulling out four carbs and cleaning them.

What could that front fork be? Is something loose or is my brake causing it? What about the engine?

The power isn't even that much of an issue there. It's mostly in how good your reaction time is and how good you are at feathering the clutch to keep accelerating hard but not going into too much of a wheelie.

vfr800 is VTEC, not sure about the 1200 version. I believe the mechanism is the same, a slider pin engages the additional cam. Problem on the earlier model is it jitters at about 7k rpm which is about town riding speed in second or third. Makes town riding a pain in the ass as it drops in and out of VTEC. The later models have a revised version that comes in around 7.5k and drops out at 7k or thereabouts

for the fun.
Also the close internal gearing ratios on 600s generally suck for all-around street riding.
>stock gearing: revving over 6k just to go 70mph. Not great for highway cruising
>lower gearing to launch easier: even revvier and more annoying on the highway
>raise gearing for more comfortable highway riding: deal with even worse launches through first gear
Also not much power to do really anything below 6k rpm

I was being dramatic.
I don't mind shifting, but having to shift 4 times just to get to fucking freeway speeds on a 600 is not something I want to do. I would if I had to, but I opted to spend more money on a bike that didn't require that.
I like having enough power in sixth gear going 60mph to still get the fuck out of dodge of an erratic driver, whereas youre much more likely to need to downshift on a 600 because you're probably going to be riding a gear higher leading up to this event to not go deaf.

I think MY2009 the GSXR/CBR/R1 all turned to shit because of different exhaust reg's (at least in the UK) I always wanted an 06-09 as I think they look awesome, but everyone I know here has an R1 and only a handful of GSXR's so I went with that.

Mines remapped to around 180 but the torque is unreal for a litre bike, from around 5.5k it just takes off. So good in fact Suzuki are still using a variant of the same engine 12 years on in the gsx.

Get yourself on a MK2 R1, the shorter frame means it pops up in pretty much any gear.
>>
>>16918876
10kg isn't exactly nothing. But weight aside the 600 is physically smaller, they're narrower in the middle and have narrower rear tires and shorter wheelbases, which significantly changes how they ride.
>>
>>16918576
>>16918680

a 600 is just as fast as a 100 up to around 60mph. Both are wheelie/traction limited in first gear.
Into second you're really battling the 1000 to keep the wheel down while maximizing acceleration where the 600 is typically pinned.

Past that the 1000 obviously walks away easily but really how often do you race that fast?

If you want a bike to haul ass and be fast on the freeway buy a busa.

600's are easier to ride fast and hard because you're not afraid of the losing rear traction with too much throttle in a turn like you are on a 1000. 1000's is far to easy to highside unless youre throttle control is on point.

A 600 you can dive deep and hard then throttle out from the apex with less fear of losing the rear end.

In all honesty, the R1 is the best all round. CBR's are too linear with the power delivery and the GSXR's build quality is shocking but the way they accelerate with a remap is unbelievable. I've not looked at the current MY but think the L7 could be the bike to have this year for the price point. I've known people go from K5 to Mk2/3 R1 to S1000rr and all say the Suzuki/Yam are the best bike. The 1000s are marginally more modern in terms of chassis technology (considering most of them were the same from like 2005 to 2015 too) but they have to give up some turn in and "flickability" for the stability to handle an extra 60hp and 30mph.

You mean just like every single other sport motorcycle on the road? Including 1000's?

>or maybe that they're "peaky"
That's not what peaky means retard. A peaky powerband is gutless at lower rpm with a sudden surge of torque and power at the top.

250cc 2 strokes are peaky, 600 cc sportbikes are not.
>>
>>16919115
>all the ratios are just taller
I would think that's more acceptable since they don't need to rev as high to make power, so you can cruise around slowly with slow engine speeds without feeling like you're lugging it or down on power. Is this wrong?
I've never ridden a liter. Just inclined to think it would have slightly more "practicality" for a road bike (though I don't actually believe any supersport is or should be aimed totally for practicality as a road bike).

>If you're hitting sixth gear at freeway speeds on a 600 it's because you magically don't have a 3rd, 4th or 5th gear
or maybe he just doesn't feel like cruising at 11,000 RPM??
>>
>>16919183
Except literbikes and 600's are garbage at low rpm (sub-4000-5000rpm)

Literbikes with their tall as shit first gears are horrible on the road and horrible to launch and control at low speed, hence why most people regear them much lower.

Only bikes that are decent in this regard are the CBR1000RR really. They have reasonably low street oriented first gears and wider spaced gearboxes.
>>
>>16919199
Bro you know you gotta be ready to wheelie at all times!
>>
>>16919203
maybe you're just not that good at low speed control? just use more clutch
>>
>>16919186
>I've used 6th gear on my R1 maybe 5 times in the last two years.
You seriously cruise around at highway speeds without being in top gear on ANY motorcycle?

lmao you have no idea how to ride.

>If you're hitting sixth gear at freeway speeds on a 600 it's because you magically don't have a 3rd, 4th or 5th gear
Jesus christ you are a fucking idiot. I bet you dont even ride.

So you are two short to get your feet flat on both sides of an 1000cc and being a manlet is your justification for buying the 600cc?

>>16919115
Or, you buy a different chain and sprocket for road riding and have it geared to suit. Anyone who isn't a complete mongoloid can change a chain and sprockets in under half an hour. The only time you would change it would be for track use, for which the rear wheel has to come off anyway for new rubber.

>>16919120
Braided lines are the shit. Dont do anything for stopping power, but ability to feel the brakes without any flex in the standard hose is a godsend.

>>16919125
If you are going to get a low powered bike get a cruiser and enjoy it. I'm a sportsfag but if you want to go slow, go slow in comfort. Why would you want to be hankered over the fuel tank on your cuckbike when you can be sat upright?
>>
>>16919152

I agree, I have friends who have the new zx10 and 1299 and the R1 seems to be the better bike overall. I do feel like the throttle response is kinda shit compared to the bmw but its nothing you couldn't get used to either. I think the new gsxr will be a very good bike while the new cbr is bland like the old one but will come along with time but stock its seem to be very underwhelming. I loved my gsxr 750, will def get another one when they put electronics and the vvt on it.

lmao. You have no idea what you're talking about.

At 60 mph my bike is barely pushing 5k in 4th.
Why would I want to be in sixth gear on a freeway doing the speed limit on a liter bike?
What the fuck even?

What bike. Post pictures, with bread on tank.

I guarantee youre a no bike. You have literally no clue what you're talking about.

Notice none of these people arguing actually own bikes?

Generally speaking, the bikes with a higher death rate per sales are the more fun bikes. K1, early carbed R1 and the TL1000R are my dream bikes but finding good ones now at reasonable prices is a difficulty.

Because most of the bikes we talk about rev to 14 or 16 thousand rpm
>>
>>16919152
>We only ride bikes because we wanted them as kids.
Speak for yourself, I ride because work has free under-building parking for bikes (vs. £270 a week for boxes) and I got bored of taking public transport.
>>
>>16919281
Oh so you literally are just retarded. Ok
>>
>>16919292
Yes, and why would I want to over rev my engine and go deaf when riding in fourth at 5k will suffice?
My bike does 120mph in first gear at 16k rpms. What's your point?
>>
>>16919316
No you fucking retard. If your bike does 60mph in 4th at 5krpm. Extrapolated to redline your bike is doing like 160mph in 4th at redline.

>Yes, and why would I want to over rev my engine and go deaf when riding in fourth at 5k will suffice?
You're overevving your engine by not cruising in top gear at highway speeds you fucking twat.

lmao no. Youre a nobike.
>>

I know for a fact that you don't have a bike.

Only bikes that rev to 16krpm are 600's and those japanese baby displacement sportbikes.
Literbikes rev to around 13,000rpm.

No bike is geared to 120mph in first gear.

You're a faggot nobike that's talking out of his ass. No wonder all the literbike shilling in this thread has been so fucking stupid/uneducated.

Exept the 2007 R1 isn't geared for 120mph in first gear (more like 90mph) and it doesn't have a 16krpm redline.

If you do actually own this bike you know nothing about it.

Which makes me believe you dont know shit about riding and any claims of 140mph willies are similarly bullshit.
