Do any of you otr cuckshedders have a dog? I know the shitposter formerly known as roehltard has one. Because I'm thinking about getting one but I don't know. Is it that much of a hassle? I have 3 cats, they're pretty chill.

I've seen everything from chihuahuas to mastiffs in trucks. As long as you avoid a working breed like a border collie or australian shepherd, and keep it under 50lbs breed average, you should be good. If it's big enough to jump up on the seat or bottom bunk it should have enough space to move around throughout the day, with a shit stop thrown in every 4-6 hours (the norm for dogs that have hitchiked with me).
>>
>>16913647
Around $5000 dollarydoos each. 15 hours to pull the motor, 15 hours to put the new one in, and 10 hours to figure out why the fuck it isn't running right.

What's the best way to get your CDL?
What companies are good to get with?
Is this a good career?
I've got less then a month to decide my career and trucking seems like a decent money maker.
>>
>>16913677

Read OP. Lurk two threads. All of your questions will be answered.
>>
>>16913626
I used to work with a guy that had an Australian Blue Heeler as a truck dog, and he made a point of walking it/throwing a ball for it a couple of times a day so it got to run and stretch its legs. He used to let it get out on slow traffic lease roads on occasion and let it run beside the truck under 20 mph. It would go for miles without missing a beat.

>>16913633
>>16913660
Pricey venture, but I suppose that's just how it is. You bought that truck used right? Was that the original motor?

Dafuq. That's a new logo, too, so it's been sitting on the lot 6 months at most.

>>16913696
Yeah, original motor, probably had an inframe on it. New motor has roughly 1,100,000 fewer miles on it.

A cylinder kit would have cost the same, but my water pump is all fucked up and the turbo is on its way out, too, so I'm going to roll the dice on a new motor and see what happens.

>>16913708

Yeah, megas like werner run a truck 450,000-650,000 miles, use the repair company they own to do rebuilds on them en masse, then put them in the fleet sales lot (that they also own) and mark up the rebuild to double market value on top of average market value for the truck, plus a bit more if they had to run it through the body shop.

We don't do local we do have dedicated and regional dedicated. If you can get on with them it's max comfy but you have to live near the area to qualify and most of those spots have a 3 or 4 year waiting list.
>>
>>16915758
All depends on the situation. If you have been around awhile with a clean record, even if the accident is bad and 100% your fault, not much will happen. Worst is maybe a "safety meeting" where a boss or HR person gives you a little slap on the wrist.

On the other hand you could be a cocky new guy like Eminem and take out a utility pole and get shitcanned real fast.

The doggos get used to it pretty quick, you just gotta be patient while they adjust to the (lack of a) routine.

I think basset hound would be a good choice. They have shorter hair and aren't too big. I'd say my blue heeler is right at the edge of being too big / too much hair. She's manageable, but I would not want to go any bigger.

Do you still live in an oil and gas development area, seeing as you used to work for Halliburton?

There are lots of oilfield related driving jobs that would bring you home every night, and pay better than otr.

I drive and operate a hot oiler, which is used to heat and pump fluid down oil wells to melt naturally occurring wax deposits that prevent pumpjacks from working properly. It pays well and brings me home every night.
>>
>>16917911
I live in Houston. Oil city, but it's all the office work here. Would have to move to west texas for real oil field work. Maybe I'll hop on the job sites and look around. any specific job titles I should look for?

Just... No
>>
Here are some ideas that may be up your alley. A lot of them have some physical field work involved, so bear that in mind. Some, depending on the company or the industry down there might have some hotel staying involved, so you'd have to do some asking around to be certain.

Hot oiling, oilfield cementing, fluid/acid pumper, wellhead service/technician, delivering potable water to rig site shacks, vac truck, combo vac, hydrovac/hydrodig, local fuel delivery for fracs/drilling rigs, acid/solvent hauling for fracs/acid squeezes, flatbedding pallets of mud chemicals to drilling rigs, picker truck, winch truck/Texas bed truck, pressure truck, bop/pipeline/facility pressure testing, power tongs/tong hand.

Is it Bison?

Looking at some local driving job ads on Indeed, a lot of them want at least two years of experience, but if there is an immediate demand, they may be willing to be a lot more flexible.

If you want out of your current job, once on home time, I would start going around to local trucking outfits in your area and ask to talk with whomever does hiring and see what they say.

Bring a fresh, updated resume and a copy of your 5 year commercial drivers abstract (or the equivalent in your province of residence) to show how serious you are about it.

If they say not at the moment, do a followup a couple of weeks to a month after that to check in.

A lot of employers, especially guys that own a company and are still involved with the day to day operations like people that are committed and show tenacity, within reason. I got my foot in the door at a previous employer when they had literally over sixty resumes on hand at any given time during the last oil/gas recession because I checked in a couple of times to show how serious I was.

I drove 6 hours in the pouring rain to buy an exhaust for my Sentra. It costs $400 new and I bought it for $350 used from this dude on Craigslist. I'm parked at a truck stop thinking 'bout my life decisions. Also thinking 'bout the Knightster.

I have no idea what this post has to do with trucking, but since you got triples I'm gonna reply.

Since the mid '90s, Nissan Sentras have consistently made around 25+ mpg. I'm going to be nice and assume that yours gets 30 mpg.

Assuming you drove 3 hours one way, 6 hours round trip at 65 mph and 30 mpg you burned approximately 13 gallons of gasoline.

If you live in a place where the price of gas is close to the national average of $2.32 per gallon, it means that it cost you $30.16 just to make the trip.

This makes your net savings $19.84 (not adjusting for value of used vs. value of new)

Therefore, this means you value your own time at $3.31/hr. or lower.

If it was 6 hours one way you should consider kys

Five weeks at a stretch, at times.

The biggest thing with a small space like that is to be very organized and have a system.

Under the bunk I had a couple of 1.5'x2' bins filled with non perishables, bottled water and all my cooking gear.

I kept all my clean clothes and toiletries in a duffel bag, dirty clothes went into a large reusable dry cleaning bag to keep it separate for easy washing, and the power cooler I used for perishable stuff got buckled up in the bunk while driving so it couldn't roll around.

Every night when stopped I would put my cooler on the passenger seat, and the duffel bag on the floor, and had more than enough room to stretch out and relax in the bunk.

Loading and offloading frac sand with a pneumatic trailer meant that I was in and out of the truck probably six to eight times a day, for around fifteen minutes while loading, and up to an hour and a half while offloading, so it helped to prevent the onset of cabin fever.

I also made a point of spending some time out of the cab once stopped for the day if weather and locale permitted.

On some trucks you can pull out the dividers so you can get to the entire under bunk area from the side doors, but on some, the dividers actually hold up the bed. Might want to have a poke around. At the very least, you could cut a board to hold the bed up.

Trucking sucks horsedick. The best way is to study the practice tests online for 15 minutes and get your written like i did. Then borrow a truck and test. Easy as that.

Finding a truck and friend to let u take it to DOT site on purpose is impossible. So meme trucjing schook is easiest and cost $3,000 because fuck working for free. Get that cdl and drice a few months crashing up their shit and then go get a real job

Before I got into it, that company did a big retrofit since it was bought used at auction, and one of the things they did was replace/reinforce the old shock system to make it stronger. Even with my cooler and duffle bag on the bed, it could hold itself up.

No, that company never did outside of a few rare circumstances long before I got hired. Lots of oilfield trucking companies will put drivers up in hotels or camps; it was ironic to see these big ass 72" studio sleeper equipped trucks consistently parked at hotel truck lots while I had to live in my tiny Pete.

Tfag have you ever considered swapping in a Detroit 6v92 or an 8v92? If its an older COE I'm sure it's a fairly straightforward swap.

Why were Detroit 2-strokes so much more popular than Cummins? I hardly ever hear anything about the older Cummins V8 diesels.

They don't call them comeaparts for nothing. The cummins 855 PT inline 6 cylinder block was so popular that the 2-strokes and V8's just about all got scrapped, but detroit didn't come out with a decent I6 until the DDEC came out in '88.

>>16932203
When I was driving a Pete it would always die in 6th. Shakers can turn 6th or 7th tho.
>>
>>16932288
Reliable? Or some other car carrier?

I don't think those guys bump typical docks everyday like regular trucks.
>>
>>16932288

I can take corners in 7th on the idle limit but I usually do 6th or 5th if it's super tight.
>>

That's not necessarily bad if you can find your next gear without thinking about it and can do it without coasting less than the length of the truck.

I coast longer than that and safety hasn't called and given me shit for it. Don't make a habit of doing it though.
>>
>>16932449

Reliable would never allow such a shitty conversion in their fleet. Based on the bay door, probably a stepdeck.

>>16932428
Older teams put both beds at the bottom bunk level because they're too old to climb into a top bunk. Other than that, kitchens and shitters are the most common, followed by showers and sofas.
>>
>>16932547

I've seen a lot of fold-up beds in these things, usually covering a dinette.

There's a few older T600s running around for Reliable, some of them look kinda ragged around the edges but not as bad as that one.

>>16932437

The problem with these mega sleepers is that they greatly limit the weight you can put on the trailer. There's a reason why these mega sleepers are so popular with auto haulers and the household movers.
>>

It does seem like an ideal application for RV or small yacht interior design.

So let's say I'm the sort of autist who wants to crap on my own throne: where am I going to empty a sewage tank and refill potable water at?

RV dumps, just like everyone else with a shitter on the road. They used to be free at rest areas, but now they're only at truckstops, campgrounds, and RV dealers. $5- $15 a dump, sometimes it depends on tank size.

>>

>>
>>16934757
I spend 9 out of 10 of my 30 minute breaks at shippers/receivers unless I get a 1000+mi haul, so your method would waste my time, as I would have to take a second break. It would also mean fueling every day which also wastes time, as I usually only fuel twice a week, so that's 40 extra minutes a week off my 70

The collapsed portion is 75-100 feet, saith CNN, which may be an alternative fact.

I imagine both sides will be closed while they have engineering assess which standing sections have sustained damage from heat and if the southbound lanes are viable.
