The odds are not in your favour. A lot of local delivery jobs want at least 2 years of Class A/Class 1 driving experience before they will seriously consider you.

The usual way to get a job like that is to get your CDL through a private school on your own dime, or get a loan to get it from a megacompany in exchange for driving for them for at least a year, get a year or two of highway hauling experience, then go local.

That's how those stupid fucking 5spd autos are on the highway.

They actually started getting away from it tho which is nice. I was reading an article on it a couple months back. All the big local companies thought it would be a good idea to order all these local delivery trucks with tiny engines but automatic trans with torque converter means that Cat C7 and Navistar N7 can pull a 46' bay trailer loaded with sodas just fine because muh "torque multiplication".

Doesn't quite work like that tho. Gotta redline all of the gears and then cruising at 65mph on the highway you are running at 2300rpm. Trucks still get 5mpg, gaskets blow every 20k, and engines are done by 150k miles. Our newest trucks have been coming with 9L-11L engines and everything is so much more smooth.

A while back I was bored on a Friday night and took the scoot to Fort Lauderdale Beach and ended up in the middle of their Critical mass. Rode along with em for a bit and was disappointed in it compared to Chicago's.

Critical Mass in Chicago gets crazy compared to most other cities. They always have a police escort to block off the streets when they are going through because it's just thousands and thousands of hipsters.

The naked bike ride is interesting too. This one night we were at Logan Square skatepark, under this bridge. Met some other biker kids who drove out from rural Minnesota for a little trip just to gtfo of there. We had them follow us over to Wilson Ave skatepark on the north side right on the lake. While we're driving, get stopped while the naked bike ride goes past. These kids from rural Minnesota had their minds blown and couldn't talk about anything else for the next few hours.

Because omnitracks is a shitty software. You can take off and drive with it still restarting. It'll catch up and record what you have done. Just edit out when you started your pretrip and it'll auto log your driving, too. Have your company update the software. It got better and doesn't take half an hour to boot anymore.

Apparently not at all because according to Wikipedia it made up 40% of Kenworth tractor sales after a few years, and they built the thing until 2007, that's 23 years.

Also they can look pretty good in my opinion, almost modern in fact because Kenworth haven't really changed their sleeper shapes since, and even new W900's look older than old T600's.

We had a guy get fired for showing up to work drunk. It was kinda fucked up. He was a "Trainer" so basically driver that had been there forever and would pick up hot shots and shit and they were trying to get rid of that position anyway. Dude who used to work for us, he delivered for Sysco when he lived in NY. He had a route where he was in Manhattan sometimes and he said it was horrible. Parking tickets are just a normal part of your day and all of the restaurants have storage in cramped basements so he had to try and get the shit all down there.

I'm just glad we don't go down to Miami. We do all of Broward plus Palm Beach and I hate doing Fort Lauderdale and places near the beach, that's why I like staying out west where it is more suburban. Plus the drivers here are terrible and as soon as I go a couple blocks south of my route into Dade County, it get so much worse.

It depends on the tie down points available on a particular trailer. Mine has chain pull outs that make it easy af. With those round chain spools cutting a 22' chain into 4-10 short chains and throwing a hook on one end of each is really going to open up your versatility, whether or not you've got J-plates to work with.

Prime has a decent system. You train to get your CDL and they pay you. They front you 200 a week for a couple weeks until you get your license, then its guaranteed 700 a week after taxes in their TNT program which is like 30 or 40k miles. After that it's chu ching, and they make you pay back the 200 a week afterwards and its like 25 a week or some shit. If you stay past your year you owe them nothing. 6 months is like 1800 or some shit. Most people come here, do their year and bounce.
